Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix last year which was the first bezel-less smartphone. The Mi Mix proved to be a trend setter for 2017 and this year we have seen bezel-less phones from various major manufacturers. Today Xiaomi has launched the Mi Mix 2 which is the latest device in Mix series.
For most people, the original Mi Mix was just too big, despite its near bezel-less design. But that has changed for the better with the Mi Mix 2. The Mi Mix2 comes with rounded corners and sides, the frame is made of aluminum alloy, and the back is ceramic. The display is 5.99 inches with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone is comfortable to hold and looks lovely.
The top of the device is very thin and the front-facing camera has been moved to the bottom right corner. This is not something we usually see but the user will get used to it in a couple of days. While using the front camera, you will get reminded to flip the phone upside down.
The processor inside is Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB, 128 GB, or 256 GB of built-in storage. The 3,400 mAh battery should last for a day on a single charge plus the device comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support which should charge the device in less than 2 hours.
There is also going to be a special edition of the phone with a ceramic unibody design without the aluminium alloy frame and a gold coating surrounding the camera and fingerprint sensor rim. This special edition Mi Mix 2 will have 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage.
On the back, you have an IMX386 12MP image sensor with 4-axis optical image stabilization and a f/2.0 aperture. Unfortunately, no dual camera has been provided which could have been a cherry on the cake.
There's one thing we don't like about Mi Mix 2 which is the lack of 3.5mm headphone jack.
With this launch, Manu Jain, the VP of Mi has confirmed that the Mi Mix2 will be available in India soon. No details have been given regarding the launch or the price of the device in India but looking at Xiaomi's recent strategy in India, we expect the device to be priced at around Rs 30000-35000 for the 6GB-64GB variant. Xiaomi might launch this device next month to take advantage of the Indian festive season.
