Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 4 in January of 2017 and it became the best selling smartphone in India in just 6 months. Xiaomi claims to have sold 50 lakh Redmi Note 4 devices which is staggering. Now, Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the much awaited Redmi Note 5. Redmi Note 4 has set the bar very high with its price-performance ratio and it will be difficult for Xiaomi to replicate the success as other smartphones manufacturers have become aggressive in India.
Difference between Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 5
The Redmi Note 5 is expected to follow the design language of Redmi Note 4 with few changes.
First big change is going to be on the camera side, Redmi Note 5 is expected to come with a dual camera setup on the back. A lot of phones are coming with the dual camera on the back so Xiaomi is expected to follow the trend of the dual camera.
Update on 25th Nov: New leaks suggest that Xiaomi is not going to bring dual camera setup to Redmi Note 5. A single 12MP camera will be there on the back.
Update on 6th Jan: Latest update suggests that Xiaomi is working on Redmi Note 5 and it will be launched in next few months. We are expecting a release in March or April.
The second big change will be the display side. Redmi Note 5 is expected to come with a bezel-less full view display with an 18:9 resolution. The display size is not confirmed yet and we think Xiaomi will go with a 5.9 or a 6-inch full view display panel on the front. Because the bezels will be small, the overall size of the Redmi Note 5 will be similar to that of the 5.5-inch Redmi Note 4.
Inside, the Redmi Note 5 is expected to have Snapdragon 630 processor/chipset. Redmi Note 4 came with Snapdragon 625 which is a very efficient and powerful chipset. Snapdragon 630 is also a Quad core chipset and cores run at 10% higher frequency. Plus, the GPU gets a boost of 40% which should help in gaming performance of the Redmi Note 5.
Update on 25th Nov: According to new leaks, Redmi Note 5 will come with same Snapdragon 625 chipset which we saw on the Redmi Note 4.
Update on 6th Jan: According to new leaks, Redmi Note 5 will come with latest Snapdragon 632 chipset.

Redmi Note 5 Review, Ratings, and Pros Cons
- The dual camera setup on the back can be similar to the setup on Mi A1 which is capable of taking nice portrait shots.
- The build quality will be solid and similar to the Redmi Note 4.
- The full view display on the front will be the USP of the device. LG might be the supplier of these full view displays
- Hybrid sim slot will be there which is something we do not like because you cannot use 2 sim cards with a MicroSD. If Xiaomi launches the Redmi Note 5 with a dedicated MicroSD slot then it will make this device even better.
First, we were expecting the Redmi Note 5 launch in December or Jan but now that the launch is delayed we suggest you to go for Honor 7X if you can't wait and need a new phone now.
