Motorola launched the Moto G5 Plus in India in March 2017 and it was the 5th device in the Moto G Series line up. Now Motorola is gearing up for the launch of Moto G6 Plus. In this article we take a look at the expected release date of Moto G6 Plus, pricing of various variants, features and expected specifications of the device.
From Moto G to Moto G6 Plus
The first smartphone in G series was Moto G which was launched in November 2013. It was aimed at emerging markets like India and it did really well. The Moto G was a nice looking device with good hardware and bloat-free software. At that time no device offered that kind of experience in the budget segment. After the success of Motorola in the budget segment, companies like Lenovo, Xiaomi entered the market and have been doing really well because of their value for money devices.
The Moto G was succeeded by the second generation Moto G in September 2014, the Moto G (3rd generation) in July 2015, the Moto G4 on June 28, 2016, and the Moto G5 in March 2017. All these devices have done really well in Indian and western markets. Motorola also launched the Moto G5S Plus recently, which was the updated version of Moto G5 Plus. Motorola added a dual camera and increased the screen size in the G5S Plus variant and other internal hardware was kept same as before.
Motorola also started the trend of having a normal G device and a Plus device. In 4th Gen, we also say a Play device. This year we are expecting that we will 3 devices in G6 series: Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play. The Moto G6 will be the cheapest in this series and G6 Play will be the most expensive of the three.
Now we are waiting for the launch of Moto G6 Plus which should happen in Feb or March this year. Let's take a look at what we are expecting from Moto G6 Plus.
So what are our expectations?
We are expecting that Motorola will follow the bezel-less trend and we will see a bezel-less 6-inch display of 18:9 aspect ratio on the Moto G6 Plus. A lot of manufacturers have already started offering bezel-less displays in budget devices and Motorola should follow the trend with Moto G6 Plus. We are expecting a 6-inch display of 18:9 aspect ratio which is standard these days.
On the camera side, we would like to see an updated dual camera setup on the G6 Plus. Current dual camera setup on G5S Plus has a monochrome and color sensor. We would like to see a dual camera setup with a telephoto lens or a wide angle lens.
On the processor side, we are expecting that Snapdragon 630 or Snapdragon 636 will power the Moto G6 Plus. Snapdragon 636 was just released in October 2017 by Qualcomm and it offers 10% faster GPU and 40% faster CPU as compared to Snapdragon 630 which is powering the Moto X4. You can see more details on Snapdragon 636 here.
Plus, we would like to see a dedicated MicroSD slot on the Moto G6, G6 Plus and G6 Play devices. Motorola always had dedicated MicroSD slots but in G5S Plus they went with hybrid sim slot which we think is a terrible choice as you cannot use 2 sim cards with a MicroSD card.
Motorola's latest Moto X4 was IP68 Rated. Moto G Phones didn't have IP rating till now so it would be great if Motorola adds IP67 dust and waterproof rating on Moto G6 Plus.
