Asus has launched a power packed device and it is priced between Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. We think it is a great phone and users who were thinking of buying a Note 5 or Note 5 Pro, might now go for Zenfone Max Pro.
In our previous article, we covered the comparison of Asus Zenfone Max Pro and Redmi Note 5 Pro. Here we take a look at the detailed comparison of Redmi Note 5 and Asus Zenfone Max Pro.
Redmi Note 5 has a design similar to Redmi Note 4. It has a metal unibody design with curved edges and the camera is placed at the center on the back. Asus Zenfone Max Pro also has a metal unibody design, it is not all metal though. The dual camera on the back is placed vertically on the corner similar to what we have seen on iPhone X. Design-wise, both phones look kind of just fine and there's nothing special to talk about.
.Xiaomi's Redmi Note 5 has the old and efficient Snapdragon 625 chipset while the Asus Zenfone Max Pro runs on the latest Snapdragon 636 chipset. Performance wise, SD 626 packs much more power than SD 625. In Antutu benchmarks, Zenfone Max Pro scores around 115000 which is 75% more than Redmi Note 5's score of around 65000. So in the processor department, Asus Zenfone Max Pro is way better than Redmi Note 5. If you are interested then take a look at our detailed comparison of Snapdragon 625 vs 626 vs 630 vs 630.
Both Note 5 and Zenfone Max Pro M1 come with a 5.99-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and aspect ratio of 18:9. They also have 2.5D gorilla glass protection which adds to the premium look of these phones. Both displays have good colour reproduction and viewing angles and you won't see a big difference between these two.
4. RAM & Storage
Redmi Note 5 is available in 2 variants: 3GB RAM - 32GB Storage and 4GB RAM - 64GB Storage. Asus Zenfone Max Pro has been launched in 2 variants as of now: 3GB-32GB and 4GB-64GB. One more variant with 6GB-64GB will be launched after some time.
Redmi Note 5 runs on MIUI 9 which is a heavily customized skin based on old Android Nougat. Asus Zenfone Max Pro, on the other hand, comes with latest stock Android Oreo with very little bloatware. Zenfone Max Pro can also record 4K videos which is something you cannot do with Redmi Note 5. The video on both phones is a bit shaky.
The front camera on the Zenfone Max Pro has higher resolution but overall performance is more or less the same on both devices.
So overall, Zenfone Max Pro has a better camera performance than Redmi Note 5.
7. Battery and Charging
Batteries on both phones are massive. Redmi Note 5 has a 4000 mAh battery which will last for around 2 days on a single charge. Asus Zenfone Max Pro has an even bigger 5000 mAh battery which will last for around 2-3 days.

Zenfone Max Pro packs a bigger battery and is a winner of battery round as well.
