Realme 1 vs Redmi Note 5 Pro detailed comparison

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro in January this year and we were blown away by the performance and price of this device. You can check out its detailed review. The Redmi Note 5 Pro was special because of the latest Snapdragon 636 chipset and the dual camera setup. We thought this is the best you can get under Rs. 15000 but we were wrong. Oppo has launched a new sub-brand Realme and their first phone Realme 1 packs even more powerful hardware at a lower price. So that's why we have come up with a detailed comparison of Realme 1 vs Redmi Note 5 Pro.

We will take a look at the comparison of each aspect before moving on to the pros cons comparison, specs comparison and then the conclusion.

1. Design

The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a metal unibody design and feels solid in hand. The Realme 1 has a fiber body and doesn't feel that solid. The fiber does help to keep the phone light and it feels good in the hand. If we talk about design, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has nothing special and looks a bit boring. The Realme 1 looks beautiful because of the diamond cuts on the back. So design is better on Realme 1 and build is better on the Note 5 Pro.

2. SoC/Processor

Redmi Note 5 Pro launched with the Snapdragon 636 which is built on the 14nm process. It scores around 110000 on the Antutu benchmarks while the Realme 1 comes with Mediatek Helio P60 chipset which is built on the latest 10nm process and scores 140000 on Antutu benchmarks which is around 25-30% more than the score of Note 5 Pro. Both chipsets are powerful and can handle any task with ease whether it is heavy apps multitasking of gaming. If you think Mediatek can't beat Snapdragon then Helio P60 is going to surprise you. In our tests, P60 chipset proved to be better than SD6236 in almost every aspect. You can take a look at the in-depth comparison of Snapdragon 630 vs 636 vs Mediatek Helio P60 vs Kirini 659

3. Display

Both Note 5 Pro and Realme 1 come with a  6-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Both phones are covered by 2.5D glass. The display quality, viewing angles are good on both phones.

4. RAM & Storage

Realme 1 comes in 3 variants: 3GB-32GB, 4GB-64GB and 6GB-128GB. Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in 2 variants: 4GB-64GB and 6GB-64GB. Realme 1 is offering more options here so we think it is better here.

5. Software

Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with MIUI 9 which is a customized skin based on Android 7.1. The Realme 1 comes with ColorOS which is a skin built on the latest Android 8.1. Both operating systems are well optimized and offer a lot of added features which are not there in stock android. We think Realme 1 is better here as it comes with the latest android out of the box.

6. Camera Comparison

Let's talk about camera comparison of these 2 smartphones. Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a 12MP+5MP dual rear camera while Realme has a 13M back camera. The selfie shooter on Note 5 Pro is a 20MP sensor, while Realme 1 has an 8MP camera on the front.

The camera performance of the Redmi Note 5 Pro is better than Realme 1. The camera performance is not bad on the Realme 1, it is just that the Note 5 Pro packs better and higher resolution sensors.

7. Battery and Charging

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a 4000 mAh battery and the Realme comes with a 3410 mAh battery. Both phones have similar screen sizes but the chipset on Realme 1 is more power efficient. So Realme 1 even with it's smaller battery will give battery backup similar to the Note 5 Pro. If you are a medium to heavy users, the battery will last for a day on a single charge.

Both phones come with a 5V 2Amp charger and will charge the phone in around 2 to 2.5 hours.

8. Multitasking and Gaming

As we said in the SoC/Processor comparison above, both phones have very powerful chipsets. If you are buying the 4GB or 6GB variants, the everyday performance is going to be a breeze. Whether you play heavy games or use a ton of apps, you won't face any issues at all.

9. Price

In pricing, there is a big difference between these 2 devices. The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in 2 variants. The 4GB-64GB is priced at 14999 and the 6GB-64GB variant is priced at 16999.

The Realme 1 comes in 3 variants. The 3GB-32GB will cost you just Rs. 8999, the 4GB-64GB will cost you 11999 and the 6GB-128GB will cost you 13999. So if you compare highest variants, you have to pay Rs. 3000 less for the Realme for and you get double amount of storage.

Realme 1 is a clear winner when it comes to pricing.

Conclusion

So that was our detailed comparison of Realme 1 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. When Redmi Note 5 Pro launched, we thought it is going to be the best smartphone of the year under 15000 price segment. Realme 1 proved us wrong. The only reason for buying Redmi Note 5 Pro is the slightly better camera performance. For everything else, Realme 1 is a better option. Yes, the absence of fingerprint scanner on the Realme 1 is a negative but once you get used to the Face unlock, you won't really feel the need for a fingerprint sensor. The face unlock on the Realme 1 is very quick and accurate and works even in low light. Realme 1 is the phone you should buy under 15000.
