Comparison of Realme 2 Pro and Redmi Note 5 Pro

Realme is Oppo's sub-brand to take on Xiaomi in India. They are targetting the phones priced between Rs. 7000 and 20000. This space is dominated by Xiaomi and they are selling millions of phones every quarter. Realme's first phones the Realme 1 was an impressive device with a powerful processor and nice design. It offered 6GB RAM and 128GB configuration at under Rs. 15000 which we have never seen before.

The Realme 2 Pro is the latest from Realme and we think it is the best you can get in the 15000 to 20000 price segment. In this article, we will compare Realme 2 Pro with Redmi Note 5 Pro which has been the best selling device in 15000 segment. Can Realme 2 Pro beat the king of the mid-range? Let's find out in the comparison below.

1. Design and Build

Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a metal unibody design and an 18:9 aspect ratio 6-inch display on the front. The phone is well built but the design of the phone is a bit boring. Xiaomi has been using metal unibody design from the last few years and most of their phones look the same.

Realme 2 Pro is a stunning looking phone. It comes with the latest dewdrop display of 6.3-inch size and 19:9 aspect ratio. The screen to body ratio is over 91%. The back of the Realme 2 Pro is polycarbonate and has a reflective design. Realme 2 Pro comes in 2 new colors which look very cool. So if you need a beautiful looking phone, Realme 2 Pro should be your choice.

2. Internal Hardware and Performance

Inside the Redmi Note 5 Pro, we have a Snapdragon 636 chipset with 4 to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Realme 2 Pro, on the other hand, is powered by the more powerful Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset. Realme 2 Pro comes with 4-6-8GB of RAM and 64-128GB of storage. On paper, Realme 2 Pro is more powerful than the Redmi Note 5 Pro. In real life, both phones perform well without any lag. Snapdragon 660 supports AI which means Realme 2 Pro might become much better as more AI features are added to take advantage of Snapdragon 660.

This round goes to Realme 2 Pro. If you are a very heavy user then the 8GB 128GB will be perfect for you.

3. Camera Comparison

Let's talk about rear cameras first. Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a 12MP+5MP dual rear camera where the 12MP is a color sensor and 5MP is a depth sensor. The performance of the rear camera is good and it takes really good pictures outdoors. The performance indoors is average as there is a lot of noise.

The Realme 2 Pro comes with a 16MP+2MP dual camera setup on the back. The 16MP camera here is the same sensor which was used on OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. It has an aperture of f/1.7 which is something you don't see in mid-range phones. The rear camera of the Realme 2 Pro takes excellent pictures outdoors. The performance indoors is good as well because of the larger aperture.

On the front, Redmi Note 5 Pro has a 20MP sensor and Realme 2 Pro has a 16MP sensor. The performance of Redmi Note 5 Pro is better than Realme 2 Pro. Redmi Note 5 Pro produces selfies with a good amount of details with accurate colors. Realme 2 Pro takes decent selfies with good nice colors and contrast. The performance of selfie camera of Redmi Note 5 Pro is a bit better than Realme 2 Pro selfie camera performance.

So for selfies go for Redmi Note 5 Pro and for pictures via rear camera go for Realme 2 Pro.

4. Software Comparison

On the software side, you will see heavy customizations and skins on both of them. Realme 2 Pro comes with Color OS based on Android Oreo 8.1 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with MIUI 9 based on same Android 8.1. If you are a stock android person, you will hate both of these phones. But if you are someone who likes features like dual apps, dual space then you will like both of them. Both softwares are stable and work well in day to day use without any lags. If you don't like how they look then installing Nova launcher would be a good option.

5. Battery and Charging

Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a nice 4000 mAh battery which would last for 1.5 days on medium usage and 2 days on light usage. Realme 2 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 3500 mAh battery. Realme 2 Pro has a slightly bigger screen and a smaller battery so you can expect a backup of 1 day on medium usage.

For charging, both phones have MicroUSB port and come with a 5V 2Amp charger inside the box. We would have loved to see a fast charger so it is a bit disappointing. Redmi Note 5 Pro charges fully in around 2 hours and 30 minutes, while the Realme 2 Pro takes 2 hours to charge because of the smaller battery size.

6. Pricing and Availability

Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched at 13999 but then Xiaomi increased the price to 14999. It was in flash sale for a period of around 3 months and is now available on Flipkart in open sale. These are the 2 variants of Redmi Note 5 Pro

4GB-64GB at Rs.14999

6GB-64GB at Rs. 16999

4GB-64GB at Rs.13999

Price wise, Realme 2 Pro is a better option as it provides same storage and RAM at 1000 less. Plus, it also has the beast 8GB-128GB configuration at just 17999.
