Redmi 5 Plus vs Mi A1

MI A1 was one of the first budget smartphones from Redmi with a dual rear camera crafted in partnership with Google under the Android One tag, while Redmi 5 Plus is one of the first smartphones from Redmi to have a bezel-less display in the budget segment.

Let's take a look at Redmi 5 Plus vs MI A1 complete detailed comparison of features, pros cons and Specs.

1. Design & Display

Redmi 5 Plus has a 5.99-inch Full HD+ bezel-less display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and 1080p resolution, while, Mi A1 has a 5.5 Full HD display with a resolution of 1080p. Redmi 5 Plus wins over Mi A1 in both looks and display.

2. SOC/Processor Comparison

Both the phones Redmi 5 Plus and Mi A1 are powered by Snapdragon 625. The experience might be somewhat better on Mi A1 because of Stock Android and clean UI.

3. RAM & Storage Comparison

Redmi 5 Plus comes in two variants 3GB of RAM with 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage while Mi A1 comes in a single variant of 4GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage.

In both the phones, prefer the $GB/64GB variant for a swift multitasking.

4. Software Comparison

Mi A1 was launched under the tag of Android One with Stock Android so there is no bloatware and cleanest UI. Redmi 5 comes with MIUI 9 that runs on Android 7.1.2 (Nougat). Mi A1 is better here as stock android has the best optimizations and is very smooth compared to MIUI which has bloatware and slows down the experience.

5. Camera Comparison

Mi A1 comes with dual camera setup on the rear with two sensors of 12MP each, of which one is a wide angle lens and the other is a telephoto lens which allows 2x optical zoom without any distortions in the image.

Redmi 5 Plus comes with a single 12MP sensor on the rear which is not one of the best and is certainly behind the experience of Mi A1 rear Camera

On the front side, both the phones have 5 MP sensor and offer similar performance.

6. Battery & Charging Comparison

The battery in the Redmi 5 plus is rated at 4000 mAH while in Mi A1 is rated at 3080 mAH. Redmi 5 Plus has a better battery backup ranging from 1.5-2 days depending on usage. Mi A1 can mostly give a backup of around a single day.
