Brief Review:

Every year Huawei launches its flagship P series of smartphone. The P series packs the latest optics that rivals the likes of Google, best in class processor and a price tag that’s pretty difficult to beat. As these flagships are kind of expensive, from 2015 Huawei has also been releasing skimmed down version of the P series aka the ‘lite’ series of the flagship counterpart. This year follows the suit and comes with it the release of the P30 lite. The younger sibling to the Huawei P30 and P30 pro lineup. Want to know more about it? Like always friends read on to find out our opinion on the new Huawei P30 Lite.

So, we would be dividing the review into the following parts that we like calling the boxes of a smartphone. Namely, Build and Design, Display, Battery life, Camera and finally Performance.

Huawei has always been on point with build and design. This is very evident in the design language of the P30 Lite. Huawei has used its famous gradient back glass design in here. In one word it simply looks beautiful. This beauty is also accompanied by brawls as the glass is no ordinary one and comes with an aluminosilicate one. If I were to speak simple English this basically means that the glass is well protected. Apart from the very attention-grabbing gradient back when you hold the phone you will be greeted by the following things. Great tactile Power and volume buttons to the right hand of the device. Hybrid SIM card slot to the top. Nothing to the left. While the bottom of the device wraps it up with Headphone jack, USB type C port, Huawei, primary microphone and the speaker grill to the bottom. The rear of phone houses a tri-camera setup and the fingerprint scanner.

We would have appreciated the use of a textured power button but one can’t really complain due to the low price tag of the phone. All in all, Huawei has done a great job with the build and design of the phone. We, on the other hand, get to choose between 2 color variants that the P30 lite comes in. Peacock blue and Midnight black. Huawei has also maintained the phone to be lightweight and weighs about only 159 gm and thickness of 7.4 mm making it sleek to easily hold in your hand.

Now we know how Huawei goes about their displays. They always don’t really go for the highest for QHD resolution. Yeah, they do it once in a blue moon as they did with the Mate 20 pro. But almost every other time they mainly focus on delivering great FHD+ displays. Fortunately, this displays grade choice cue follows up with the P30 lite too.  When you lift the P30 lite you will be greeted with a beautiful 6.15-inch LCD U-notched display. The resolution at FHD+ gives the users a 2312  x 1080P resulting in 415 PPI display. Colors are great and accurate making it a great media consumption device. The use of a U-notch gives the phone a 90% screen to body ratio. However, this would have been even better if an OLED panel were used as the Samsung provides one with their Galaxy A50 in the similar price range of under 20000. The display quality overall is great considering the price.

Now, coming to the battery life of the P30 lite. Huawei’s packed in a pretty decent sized battery in here. The P30 lite comes with a 3340mAh battery. Now, don’t be upset if you don’t see a 4000mAh one. This is because Huawei’s packed in treat bundled inside the box. The treat comes in the form of an 18W fast charger which can charge the phone in about100 minutes. All in all, When the 3340mAh battery is packed in the P30 lite couple with the FHD+ display and the Low-powered Kirin 710, more on that in a moment, gives the P30 lite an easy 1-day battery life. Even if you do end up killing the phone before bedtime you can quickly top it up with the included fast charger. The battery is not the best but you can live with it if you are not a very heavy user.

Now, probably why many of you are actually reading this review is to know how the cameras on the phone fair. Simple, on paper, this setup looks really promising. The rear of the camera as mentioned above is a tri-camera setup. A main primary shooter of 24MP at F1.8, an Ultra-wide lens at 8MP and a depth sensor of 2MP. This is assisted with a single LED flash. The selfie department is handled by a 32MP F2.0 shooter. Now please don’t expect Huawei’s flagship grade photography out of this setup. However, that does not mean that the cameras on the P30 lite are not up to the mark. In fact, they are great especially considering the price tag.

The main 24MP primary shooter captures rich details and is good for lowlight photography considering the F1.8 low aperture of the lens. The wide-angle lens also pretty decent one as it covers 120 degrees of view.  Finally comes the 3rd lens which is a 2MP depth sensor and all it does is what a depth sensor does. Separates the foreground from the background. Last but not the least we have the 32MP selfie shooter on the front. Selfies come out with great details and detect more than 8 categories in real-time. All in all, Huawei’s done a great job with the camera department here. Nothing to complain about.

We finally come to the last box that a smartphone should check in order to be a good smartphone. Now the performance department is kind of a let down here. The P30 lite boasts a Kirin 710 on the hardware front and is backed by 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. This is the only variant available. This storage choice if a kind of confusing as usually we find that a 4GB RAM is coupled with a 64GB storage and a 6GB RAM is coupled with a 128GB one. However, coming back to the processor when we hear the number 710 are brain directly thinks of the Snapdragon 710.

However, that is not the case as in reality the Kirin 710 actually competes with the Snapdragon 710. The Kirin 710 is built on the 12nm manufacturing process. It has 4 A-73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 4 A-53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz. Mali G51 handles the GPU front. Now on paper, the Kirin 710 just barely beast the Snapdragon 660. However, when it comes to the GPU, the Adreno 512 on the 660 thrashes the pretty old Mali G51 on the Kirin 710. The only real advantage here is the smaller manufacturing process at 12nm that will give a better energy efficiency vs the 14nm on the Snapdragon counterpart.

Then we come to the 2nd part of the performance which is the software running phone. The good news is that its Android 9 Pie. The bad one is that EMUI is running atop it. The version is EMUI 9 and even if this version of EMUI is lighter and faster than the previous versions it is nowhere near to the like of per se One UI, let alone stock android. With a processor like the Kirin 710 and a heavy UI like EMUI 9, only time will tell how many miles will the phone last before bogging down on performance. The Kirin 710 scores around 138000 on the AnTuTu which is substandard for a smartphone under 20000 given what the competition is offering. For security, P30 Lite supports fingerprint and face unlocking. Both security methods work fast and are accurate so you will not face any issues here.

So, if we were to wrap this up. The Huawei P30 Lite checks 4 of the 5 boxes that were mentioned. It gets the Build and design right. It has a great display if not the best. The battery is pretty good too considering the 18W fast charger comes in the box. The display is great too, I mean yes, it’s not as good as an AMOLED one but definitely daily driver material. It has one on the best cameras its price segment. Thus, it’s only the performance that's a slight let down. If you can live with what sort of performance lies underneath, then the device below it is a solid one. We would have loved to see a 6GB RAM instead of a 4GB one but again for 70% of what anybody would need the phone to do it will do just fine. Currently, the P30 lite retails for rupees 19990 through Amazon only. We are pretty impressed with the phone and we are pretty sure that you’ll love it too.

Brief Review:

Vivo is now a company that is well known to the Indian consumers for their promises of perfect selfies. With the launch of their latest mid-range the Y17 Vivo plans on giving its audience not only “Perfect Selfies” but good photography capabilities too. The question now is, will Vivo be able to reach out to a wider audience with competition coming from the likes of Redmi Note 7 Pro, Realme 3 Pro, and Samsung A50 smartphone priced under 20000? Or is it that the competition is way more difficult for the Y17 to fit in?

This is the short review of the Vivo Y17. As always read on to find out my friends.

2019 is the year where we see every single company going with, one a gradient paint job at the back, two a glass or glossy plastic pretending to be a glass back.

Well, with the Y17 thankfully you do get the gradient paint job with streamlined lines running diagonally from top to bottom of the phone and a glass back panel. The triple camera, LED flash and the fingerprint sensor reside to the rear of the phone. Now Vivo does not mention what type of glass is used but it does add to the fit and finish of the device.

However, it is to be noted that the buttons are probably one of the worst features of the phone build. They are mushy and are not tactile. None the less, the power and volume rocker reside to the right of the phone with the top being completely clean. The dual SIM slot and a dedicated micro SD card slot expandable up to 256GB resides to the left. Finally, the headphone jack, primary and only microphone and the speaker grill lay low at the bottom.

Another huge disappointment is the use of a micro USB port instead of a Type C one which rests at the bottom of the phone.

Overall this is basically “Do not judge a book by its cover” scenario. The probably only good thing about the build and design is the use of a beautiful glass back and the dedicated memory card slot and the 2 color options: Mineral Blue and Mystic purple.

Coming to the display review, we again find fancy promotional terms being used here. The Y17 comes with a Halo FullView display. What this means is this that it’s a teardrop notch display that has a weird aspect ratio of 19.3:9. It is 6.35-inch LCD screen with a screen resolution of 89% and an HD+ resolution of 1544X720. This again is a huge, huge let down especially considering that this is not an under 10000 phone, more of this in a while. The display isn’t bad, it’s just this that it's pathetic when you consider what the competition in the form of the Realme 3 pro and  Redmi Note 7 pro has to offer. This department is simply a letdown.

Let us now take about the battery backup. Battery life is probably one of the only department that the Y17 gets right. The Y17 gets a mammoth 5000mAh battery. When it comes to top recharging it thanks to the inclusion of an 18W Dual-engine fast charger (included in the box), you can top the battery back up pretty fast. Vivo does not mention how fast is this fast charger but does mention this that the fast charger comes with 9 charging protection. This is easily a 2 day plus battery life thanks to the low-res display and the weak processor, more on that later again.

Now coming to the camera of Vivo Y17, at first sight, appears to be the only savior of this phone. Remember, ‘appears to be’, The rear camera gets a tri-camera treatment here with a primary 13MP F2.2 shooter. This is accompanied by an 8MP F2.2 Super wide angle and a 2MP F2.4 depth sensor. The selfie shooter is a 20MP F2.0 lens.

The primary shooter is average to good at max nothing special. The depth sensor does what depth sensors usually do, separating the background from the foreground to give portrait shots. Colors definitely look slightly washed and images will come out soft. Night time though it is simply a bad performer.

What truly is good is that Super wide-angle lens which gives a total of a 120-degree field of view. When this lens is used for the right scene it's truly amazing. The perspective that you can achieve from this lens if second to none in this category apart from one contender that simply thrashes the Y17 in all departments. Read till the end to find out which phone is it.

The selfie camera, on the other hand, is pretty good at 20MP captures plenty of details and host regular parlor tricks like Beauty mode and portrait shots. Giving the camera a prospective rating, it is a C Plus to a B minus at max.

We finally come to the department that runs all the show in on any phone. The processor and the software accompanying it.

Vivo Y17 comes in the form of the Helio P35 from MediaTek.  The P35 is an Octa-core A-53 core processor that is built on the 12nm processor clocked at 2.3GHz. The P35 is slightly better than the Snapdragon 636 in both CPU an GPU, but only slightly. However, is completely thrashed by the Snapdragon 660. Anyway, the Vivo Y17  scores around 86000 on AnTuTu. The poor choice of Processor considering the price point goes with an even weird and poorer choice of memory. The Y17 comes at 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This is the only choice available and is similar to what was seen on the Huawei P30 Lite.

Day to day task should be good. The only time you will find any sort of lag is while playing heavy games and multi-tasking. Even if Vivo says that the phone comes with ‘Ultra game mode’, there is only so much software can do with the limited hardware. The GPU is in the form of PowerVR GE8320 and this is not a very powerful GPU either. So, yes irrespective of what Vivo says games will only be playable at medium settings.

The software is again a letdown as is Vivo’s proprietary FuntouchOS 9 atop Android 9. The UI is overloaded with things and it basically tries to be the lovechild child of Android and iOS. What we mean by this is that the design cues have lots of things that are just copy pasted from iOS and this simply does not make sense. Stock android lovers this is not a cup of tea for you.

All in all, the performance department is a complete let down in our opinion considering the price point of under 20000.

Now, we would not have hit the Y17 so hard. Yes, people can live without a type C port. Yes, people can live with an HD+ display. And Yes, people can live with the Helio P35. All of this could be yes if we were living in 2017 and the phone would have costed 13K.

Sadly, this is 2019 and the phone with the weird memory option of 4/128 GB comes in at a whopping rupees 17990. At that price, it is simply unforgivable. At that price, you can buy either of the top line models of the Redmi note 7 pro or the Realme 3 pro. Both are great value for money and both are better phones than the Y17 in all aspects.

Now, remember in the camera department we told you about a phone that is a direct competition to the Y17? Well, that’s non-other than the A50 from Samsung. Better optics, Better FHD+ AMOLED display, Better processor, check. The list goes on and on.

What we are trying to say is that if you are considering to buy this phone our suggestion would be that your money will most definitely be spent elsewhere. This is a phone that we personally would have skipped because the only good thing it offers is a big battery life and good internal storage.

Brief Review:

Oppo is no stranger to the Indian market as it has quite the reputation especially when it comes to mobile phone photography. Oppo has been trying to bring great flagship grade photography into its upper midrange phones for quite some time now. Finally, with its latest upper-midrange phone Oppo the F11 pro it looks seriously into changing mobile photography in a budget. Read on to find out how does the F11 Pro fair in the vision of photography that Oppo plans on changing.

To start things off we begin with the internals and the performance of the phone. At the heart of the phone lies the decently powerful MediaTek Helio P70. The Helio P70 packs a pretty good punch. This is because P70 is an 8-core chip based on 12nm manufacturing technology. This caries a combination of 4 low power efficient A-53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. and 4 high powered A-73 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. Helio P70 on F11 Pro is a bit disappointing because phones like Realme 3 which are priced under 10000 have the same chipset and phones like Note 7 Pro comes with Snapdragon 675 and are priced much lower than F11 Pro.

Apart from the processor, the phone comes in only one variant which is the 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. There is support for memory card expansion up to 256GB however it's shared with the secondary SIM slot as it’s a Hybrid slot

When it comes to design, Gorgeous is the word that defines F11 pro. The phone is available in 2 colors and Oppo refers to them, as Thunder black and Aurora Green. The back of the phone is made out of glass and is basically a gradient finish. The glass curves at the back of the phone which results in great ergonomics.

The dual 48MP + 5MP cameras sit at the back of the phone right above the fingerprint sensor in this tiny strip which basically houses the 2-camera sensor and an LED. The front of the phone is completely clean with an extremely thin chin and earpiece tucked right up on the tiny upper bezel of the phone. The only let down is the inclusion of a micro-USB port at the bottom. This is a disappointment as a Type C port would bring this phone to 2019 standards. However, the overall build of the phone is top notch. Which reminds us of notches as the F11 pro has none, thus bringing us to display.

The front panel is a beautiful 6.5-inch FHD+ 2340X1080 pixels notchless LCD display. The quality of the display is great as it packs vibrant and accurate colors with great clarity. The display at a peak brightness of 480 nits is not the best in class in terms of brightness is definitely best in class when it comes to screen to body ratio. This is because the display features a massive 90.90% screen to body ratio. This is the highest screen to body ratio seen on any smartphone in this price range. Such a high screen to body ratio is achieved due to the absence of any sort of notch on the display. So does that also mean that there is no front-facing camera on the front of the phone?

The answer to that is both Yes and No. This is because the F11 Pro does pack a selfie camera however it’s not on the display of the phone but in a camera slider mechanism which is mainly seen on many expensive phones. This results in giving the phone that beautiful almost all screen display. Oppo has simply knocked the display out of the competition with the popup front camera mechanism. The use of the pop-up camera not only gives a higher screen to body ratio but a premium experience that is received using only high-end smartphones.

Staying on the camera front. The F11 pro has a total of 3 cameras. The rear cameras are a combination of a 48MP F1.79 shooter which is assisted by a 5MP F2.4 depth sensor. The pop-up selfie camera is a 16MP F2.0 shooter.

The main focus of the rear camera is the ability to shoot “Brilliant portrait in low light”. These are the exact marketing terms used by Oppo. Successfully the F11 pro proves it too. The 48MP primary shooter's large pixels help click pictures as it captures lots of light coming in. The great sensor is assisted by an AI algorithm for optimal photo experience.

Now as we know that in low light the ISO of the camera tends to shoot high to let in wore light and this results in blurry photos due to lack of stabilization. However, the F11 pro comes with a closed loop VCM ball bearing to smoothen out any shaky hands while shooting pictures in low light. Think of it as a kind of image stabilizing mechanism. This combined with the 5MP depth sensor results in great portrait in low light just like Oppo promises. The 48MP sensor is also able to capture Super Night Scene which is similar if not of the same level of what Google has to offer in its night mode.

The 16MP Pop-camera or Rising Camera as Oppo brands it is no slouch either. Oppo is extremely proud of the center placement of the camera for giving you a natural symmetric selfie. All in all, the choice of cameras on the F11 pro and their tuning is done right and we are quite happy about it.

Coming to the software side of this, the good news is this that the F11 pro runs on the latest version of Android which is Android 9 Pie. However, this is Android 9 Pie running Color OS 6 on top of it. While the prior versions of the color OS were IOS rip-off the present color OS 6 is much more streamlined with a borderless design. The OS provides with features like hyper boost which accelerates the performance when needed both in apps and games. It also has its own version of gaming mode called Game Assist which basically features streamlined notifications management, the game assist also allows for other features like screen record and message reply too.

It also features riding mode which mutes all notification and automatically texts back to decline calls. Color OS also features smart assistant which is similar to what is seen on one plus’s shelf on Oxygen OS.  The smart assistant brings features like an on-screen overview of the user’s favorite apps and gives an overall fitness track glance too. All in all, this is definitely not the best custom skin atop android but it is definitely the most refined version of Color OS.

The good news with the battery is this that the F11 pro comes with a huge 4000mAh battery. Which basically converts to all-day battery life. Not only this but the F11 pro comes equipped with Oppo’s VOOC Flash Charge 3.0. The VOOC charger comes inside the box and is rated at 5V and 4A outputting 20W in total. VOOC charge is basically a combination of FFC algorithm and fast charging allows the F11 Pro 20 minutes lesser charge time than VOOC charge 1.0. All in all, again the battery charging time and it's capacity are the best in class when compared with other phones in its category.

Now we finally arrive at one of the most important aspects of the phone. This is the price of the phone. The Oppo F11 Pro was launched at Rs. 24990 and comes in at the earlier mentioned colors which are Thunder black and Aurora Green. There is only one model available which is the 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant which can further be increased to 256GB via the Hybrid SIM card slot.

If all you want is a great camera, battery life, and an immersive display and if you don't mind the lack of a Type C port or a powerful processor then go for the F11 Pro. Else, there are better options like Samsung A50 at a lower price.

Brief Review:

Samsung Galaxy A50 comes with a beautiful 6.4-inch Full HD+ super AMOLED display which is a treat to eyes. Beginning with the design we have a beautiful looking Gradient color back which looks like glass but has a plastic build. Even with that, the phone feels solid and has a good build quality. The front has an Infinity U display that is the notch and the bottom side has thin bezels and the phone overall looks great with a perfect display.

Samsung has been facing stiff competition and its latest A series and M series are here to fight back. Coming to the processor of the Samsung Galaxy A50, you get the in-house Exynos 9610 which is an extremely powerful processor. Build on the 10nm manufacturing process the Exynos 9610 has 4 performance A-73 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz.  and 4 power efficient A-53 cores clocked at 16 GHz. This processor in one word ‘delivers’ as it rivals the Snapdragon 675. Not only this is it is to be noted that the 675 is based on the 11nm process which clearly means that the 9610 is better at batter management and its efficiency.

Samsung Galaxy A50 scores a massive 1,46,355 which is a good score for a priced between 15000 to 20000. Poco F1 is one of the phones which comes with better AnTuTu in this price range. In terms of performance, you will not face any issue in multitasking or playing high graphics game.

Coming to the camera quality, Samsung already puts lots of effort and brilliance to the camera and this Galaxy A50 has three cameras on the back come in the form of a main 25MP F1.7 shooter, an 8MP F2.2 Ultra wide sensor and finally, a 5MP sensor for features like lives focus. There is also a whopping 25 MP F2.0 sensor in the front for the selfie lovers. All in all, a set of these good sensors for an under the 25K mark let alone under the 20k mark. The camera can also utilize the ultra-wide lens to shoot wide angle videos too. It can also shoot slow-mo videos at 480 frames per second compared to the 120 frames per second offered by the previous generation all thanks to its mighty processor.

Overall the camera pictures come with good quality and details. The images are sharp and crisp with good low light performance. It is one of the best camera quality in this price point and you will never be disappointed with the perfect images this A50 captures.

The software has also seen a lot of improvements as Samsung has introduced new One UI which is based on top of Android Pie and has less bloatware, cleaner and easy to use interface. Sticking to the battery front the A50 brings with itself a 4000 mAh battery and combining it to the Exynos 9610 we get a great battery life of more than a day. There is a 15W fast charger bundle in the box which is another positive point of this smartphone.

Galaxy A50 support face unlocking and an in display fingerprint sensor and both are accurate. The fingerprint takes about 0.4 to 0.5 seconds which we believe will improve with time with software upgrades. Oppo K1 is another phone under 20k that offers in display sensor.

The galaxy A50 comes in 2 variants 4GB RAM and 64GB storage for rupees 19990, and 6GB RAM and 64GB storage for rupees 22990. Based on your budget and requirements you can choose the best variant for you. It is to be noted again that both the phones come with 2 sim card slots with 4G enabled on both the sims and a dedicated memory card slot expandable up to 512GB. Though there is no official confirmation however this article from GSMArena claims that the Samsung Galaxy A50 comes with an IP68 rating so it is water and dust proof.

So, to conclude, honestly, we think that the A50 is a way better bang for the buck and is a much-improved phone setting it apart from the M series. In the A50, there is a small compromise of the plastic build otherwise the phone is a complete practical device with a great camera and processor. The fast charging and in display sensor adds to the good value for money this phone offers. Galaxy A50 which is basically the example of an ideal budget segment flagship.

Brief Review:

Vivo V11 Pro is the successor of Vivo V9 which was launched earlier this year and was one of the first mid-range phones with a notch display. Vivo V11 Pro is a big upgrade over V9 as Vivo has updated the internal hardware and has added some latest features as well. Let's take a look at the brief review of Vivo V11 Pro.

The first thing everyone is going to notice in a smartphone is its design and Vivo V11 Pro excels at that. V11 Pro has a beautiful design. The display on the front is a large 6.4 inch panel with minimal bezels. The notch is tiny and houses the front camera. The chin at the bottom is small as well. The screen to body ratio of over 90% which is something you don't see in midrange phones. Moreover, the display panel is Super AMOLED which looks beautiful which high contrast and rich colors. The back of the phone has a dual color design with a nice glossy finish. Overall, this is one of the most beautiful phones you will see in this range.

The rear camera on the Vivo V11 Pro is a dual setup with a 12MP color sensor + 5MP depth sensor for taking portrait mode pictures. On the front there is a 25MP sensor. Both front and rear cameras take excellent pictures in outdoor good lighting conditions. The pictures are sharp with plenty of details, good contrast and saturation. The dynamic range is pretty good as well. The front camera on the phone is one of the best selfie camera we have seen. It takes excellent selfie shots. You can also choose various filters, stickers and beautification levels. The camera performance of the phone is excellent. The only thing you won't like about the camera is the video recording which is average because of no OIS or EIS support.

Now coming to the internals. The Vivo V11 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 which is a powerful midrange chipset. There is 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage on this device. Powerful processor and plenty of RAM means the device is able to handle multitasking and gaming with ease. You won't notice any lag during day to day usage. Heavy games like PUBG also run fine on this smartphone.

If you need more storage then you can do that with the MicroSD slot which can increase the storage by up to 256GB. The MicroSD slot is dedicated so you won't be compromising with the dual sim functionality of the device. It is a dual VOLTE device so you can use two 4G sims simultaneously.

The Vivo V11 Pro runs on Funtouch OS which is a skin based on Android Oreo 8.1. Funtouch OS is heavily customised skin with a lot of extra apps and features. If you like to use features like dual apps then you would like it. Things are a bit complicated though and the settings menu is not really ease to use and you might need sometime before getting used to it.

Vivo V11 Pro comes with 2 new exiting features. First is the in-display fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor is below the display and is not visible. Vivo says this is 4th generation in-display sensor and is faster and more accurate then the previous ones. The second exiting feature is the IR face unlock. Vivo is using the front camera for the face unlock and they have added IR as well which helps to unlock the phone in dark conditions. Both in-display fingerprint sensor and IR face unlock are nice to see in a mid-range smartphone. The performance is not the best but you can improve that by enabling a setting where the phone uses both fingeprint and face unlock together to unlock the device faster.

The battery inside the V11 Pro is a 3400 mAh battery. It is not a big battery but V11 Pro does have power efficient AMOLED display and Snapdragon 660 chipset. Thanks to these, the battery backup of the phone is good and it will easily last for a day on a single charge. The phone supports fast charging and also comes with a fast charger inside the box and charges the phone completely in around 1 hours and 40 minutes.

Overall, Vivo V11 Pro is an great mid-range phone. It offers a great design, gorgeous display, powerful processor, good cameras and latest features like in-display fingeprint and IR face unlock. If you have a budget of around Rs. 25000 then this is the phone you should buy.

Brief Review:

Pocophone is a sub-brand of Xiaomi like Realme is of Oppo and Pocophone or known as Poco has launched its first smartphone in India on 22nd August 2018. Pocophone has left everyone amazed with a very aggressive pricing despite being powered by the top shot Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which we saw in the OnePlus 6 and the Zenfone 5ZPoco F1 comes with a notch display, a powerful battery, a good to go camera and everything that a user looking to spend 25k would look for. It smashes all the record of the value for money score and here in this review, we discuss the specifications, features and every detail on the Poco F1, which you as a prospective buyer would look for.

Poco F1 comes with a 6.18 inch Full HD plus display having a resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels. The display has a notch design which is slightly big and holds the front camera and the IR sensor. The software gives you the option to disable the notch if you do not like it and use the phone like a bezel-less display phone. The screen is of IPS LCD type and is of good quality with perfect brightness and no issues could be observed even using it in the direct sunlight with auto brightness. The one thing which we found a little weird are the thin bezels even above the notch which does affect its looks and design.

On the build quality side, the Poco Phone comes with a polycarbonate body which is a small compromise comparing the beautiful and gorgeous glass design pattern which we see in the phones today. That does not mean the phone ranks poor on the build quality, overall it is good with metal in between back and front and is decent at the price point considering what all it offers as discussed below. The 8GB 256 GB variant comes in a Kevlar back material which is textured and looks better with a better build quality and is priced at 29k. You can take a look at the Kevlar variant here. The Pocophone is not a fingerprint magnet and there are no smudges as we see on the smartphones with glass designs. Also, there is a translucent case bundled in the box.

Coming to the highlight of this Poco F1, The Performance, and here everyone has their jaw dropped as we witness the all-powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which till date was only seen in the budget flagship and the flagship smartphone. The Snapdragon 845 in a budget smartphone at 21k is totally insane and has put a big question in front of other manufacturers to think of what should they introduce next. Snapdragon 845 needs no introduction as it was seen in the OnePlus 6 and the Zenfone 5Z. It is an octa-core processor comprising of 4x2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 385 Silver along with Adreno 630 GPU. The Poco F1 also witnesses the LiquidCool Technology, which keeps the CPU temperature maintained that allows the Snapdragon 845 to perform to its full capacity when you are gaming in the super heavy mode.

The phone comes with a 6GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256 GB with the hybrid micro SD card slot. Without any iota of doubt, the performance is mind-blowing and the RAM management is amazing, the multitasking is super smooth, the gaming performance is brilliant and we did not find even a small hiccup in our usage. The Poco F1 scores a massive 285302 on the Antutu Benchmark shattering any record that existed for a smartphone priced around 20000. On the GeekBench, the Poco F1 scores, 2467 on the Single Core and 9081 on the multi-core, and we would ask you, what else would you get for only Rs 20000. Full marks on the performance to the master of speed, Poco F1.

On the next important aspect of the Poco F1, the camera. Here we get a dual read camera placed vertically in the middle of the phone with 12MP Sony IMX363 + 5MP Samsung, f/1.75 sensors and dual LED flash. The colours in the photo look rich and the shots are pretty much detailed. The images are sharp and you are going to love it for 21000 bucks. Frankly speaking, the camera is not as great as the OnePlus 6 priced at 35000 but gives a tough competition to it.  There is support for 4K videos but the Poco F1 only supports Electronic Image stabilization (EIS) and does not support Optical Image stabilization (OIS). In the portrait mode, the edge detection in bang on and we could see even the hairline edges are very well aligned. There are some AI optimizations in the colours using the object detection. The low light shots are also very bright and contain very less noise, OnePlus 6 is better but only by a tad margin as it captures more light and has slightly better low light images. Also, OnePlus 6 has better image stabilization because of the presence of OIS and the difference could be seen in the videos recorded at 4K resolution of Poco F1 and OnePlus 6.

The front camera comes with a 20 MP sensor and it also supports the portrait mode. The shots are full of details and you might even look better than what you look in the real life. At the pricing of 21k, we are in love with what the camera has to offer. A budget flagship capability in a budget pricing in what Poco offers. The camera configuration, is similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro and people had questions that if the camera performance in any better? So here, we do not think we should compare, because the camera image quality on the Poco F1 is far better and class apart than the Note 5 Pro which is also directed by a far better image signal processor in the Snapdragon 845.  Poco F1 has the best ever camera seen in any phone in India for a pricing of 21000.

The PocoPhone F1, runs on MIUI 9.6 with POCO specific optimization and is build over the Android Oreo. Poco has promised an update to the MIUI 10 and also the Android P (Pie). The MIUI has some bloatware but the POCO has enabled the gesture recognition which if enabled on your device removes the three button from the bottom and reads your gesture for all the tasks, something similar to what we saw in the iPhone X.

Poco F1 not just comes with a massive processor but a huge battery life. it features a non-removable 4000 mAh battery and gives a screen on time of around 6.5 to 7 hours and with medium usage, you can easily run with the phone for at least 1.5 days. Fro the heaviest of usage, you may still see a battery backup for a full day, this speaks volume of the optimization that comes with the phone and the efficiency of the Snapdragon 845 processor. The Poco F1 has a USB type C port and supports Quick Charge 3.0(quickly charges up the first 20%) with a fast charger bundled in the box. The total time it takes for the charging is about 100-110 minutes.  Poco F1 is not water or dust resistant and there is no IP rating so keep it protected from any damage.

For the unlocking, Poco F1 comes with a fingerprint sensor just below the rear camera and is super quick. It takes less time than the blink of the eye. For the face unlocking, which is also very accurate and fast comes with an additional feature of IR sensor, which enables you to unlock the phone even in darkness. It has a stereo speaker where the main speaker is located at the bottom and the earpiece is used as the second speaker but you do not get a true stereo speaker like seen in the Zenfone 5z but it is decent enough for the pricing.

After all this, we can just say that Poco has entered the market with a band and is a total game changer for the industry. Without any doubt, the Poco F1 is the best smartphone under 25000 and we can hear the trumpets of the thumping victory this Poco F1 from Xiaomi is going to blow.

The Poco F1 sale starts from 29th August 2018 and is exclusively available on Flipkart via the flash sale. For the 21k variant, you are going to see huge demand as was for the Note 5 Pro. There is a launch offer with Poco F1 where you can get additional Rs 1000 discount if you pay via HDFC credit and debit card.

OPPO F9 Pro is one of the latest phones under 25000 in India

  • Front Camera: 25MP

Brief Review:

Oppo has launched the Oppo F9 and F9 Pro which are the successors of the last year's Oppo F7. The latest phones have some improvements, we won't call it a big upgrade. The F9 and F9 Pro are exact same phones with only one difference which is the RAM. F9 comes with 4GB RAM and F9 Pro comes with 6GB RAM.

The Oppo F9/F9 Pro comes with a very modern design. Oppo has ditched the rectangular notch which we have been seeing on almost every other smartphone. Oppo has come up with a new notch called as waterdrop notch. The notch is really small and houses the front camera. The bezels are minimal and screen to body ratio is over 90% which is excellent for a phone priced under 20000.

The display size is 6.3 inches with Full HD Plus resolution and an aspect ratio of around 19.5:9. The display is beautiful with rich colors, good saturation, and contrast. Because of the small notch and thin bezels, watching movies or playing games on this device is a great experience.

On the back, you will see some 3D effects. Oppo has used 2 colors on the back with diamond cuts which can be seen from an angle. It is a fresh design and you will love it if you are bored of seeing boring plain black or white backs. If you don't like flashy stuff then you might hate the back of Oppo F9. The phone comes in 2 colors: Red and Blue. Blue one is our favorite.

The thickness is under 8mm and it weighs around 170 grams. You will find it comfortable in hand. One hand usage might not be possible though.

On the back, we have a fingerprint sensor and a dual camera setup. The Oppo F7 came with a single 16MP camera but this time Oppo has added a secondary 2MP depth sensor to help with portrait mode pictures with depth/bokeh effect. The front camera is the same 25MP shooter as we saw on the F7. The camera performance is similar to F7. The outdoor pictures look vibrant with good amount of details. The indoor pictures under low light conditions are not that great and not bad either. Oppo is using AI to enhance the pictures depending on the scene. The selfies look great as well. The phone will beautify your face using AI. If you don't like that, you can turn it off. Overall, it is a good camera phone with shots that are rich, vibrant and well balanced.

Under the hood, Oppo F9 and F9 Pro have a MediaTek Helio P60. Helio P60 is a very capable SoC with 8 cores out of which 4 are high-performance Cortex A73s while the other 4 are high-efficiency Cortex A53s, all clocked at 2.0GHz. For all your gaming needs there’s a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU which also works well. The hardware is powerful and power efficient and you won't face any day while day to day usage or gaming. On Antutu, you can expect a score of around 135000 which is similar to the score of Snapdragon 660.

The Oppo F9 and F9 Pro pack a 3500mAh battery, which is decent capacity. Thanks to the power efficient SoC, you can expect a day of backup with heavy usage and 1.5 days of backup with low to medium usage. The phone comes with VOOC fast charging which is really fast. You can get 2 hours of talking with 5 minutes of charge. This is crazy quick. Oppo has bundled a 20W Fast charger in the box which is great.

The Oppo F9 runs on Color OS which is a skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Color OS is a heavily customized skin and has a lot of bloatware. If you are someone who likes the look and feel of stock Android then Oppo F9 is not for you. If you absolutely hate the skin and like the phone then installing Nova launcher is a good option.

And to your caution, there’s no IP rating on this one so keep it as far from liquids and dust as possible.

The Oppo F9 is priced at 19990 and the F9 Pro is priced at 23990. We think F9 provides more value for money. The F9 Pro has just 2GB of extra RAM so spending extra 4000 for it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Oppo F9 is a gorgeous smartphone with latest features at the decent price. Go for it if you need a fresh looking smartphone with good cameras, a powerful processor at around 20k.

  • 6.3 inch Full HD Plus Display 1080p

Brief Review:

Huawei and Honor have been looking to acquire a good share of the market with the introduction of their smartphone in all the price range. Huawei Nova 3i seems to be a good bet which offers a notch display beautiful design, good camera with a plethora of AI features and dual camera as both rear and front. Nova 3i has a good value for money score with a premium feel for a budget of under 20000. Let us look at the reviews, features, specifications and every minute details of the Huawei Nova 3i.

Huawei Nova 3i comes with a big 6.3-inch notch type full view display with a glass design at back and a metal frame in between front and back. the display has perfect viewing angles, colour reproduction and we have no complaints of this great Full HD plus resolution display on the Nova 3i. With the notch design, the aspect ratio in 19.5:9 and we just cannot think of anything beautiful than this in an under 20k budget. The glass back design looks amazing which produces different blue and purple colour shades at different angles.

The design looks pretty amazing and eye-catchy and is a total premium option to consider. But the back glass, as in all the phones is a fingerprint magnet, so keep a cover handy (maybe transparent one). The smartphone weighs around 169 gm and a 7.6 mm in width which enables easy hold and usage.

With Nova 3i, Huawei seems to have finally moved over the Kirin 659 as seen in almost all the budget range phones. Nova 3i comes powered with a Kirin 710 processor clubbed with 4 GB of RAM. Kirin 710 is much powerful than the Kirin 659 and Nova 3i scores around 1,38,000 on the Antutu giving a good challenge to the likes of Mi A2 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro in the performance. The gaming and multitasking experience is super smooth and no lags or hiccups could be observed.

Let us talk about the camera where the nova 3i comes with the dual camera on both front and back as was seen in the Honor 9i and the Honor 9 lite. The rear camera is vertically placed with dual sensors of 16MP and 2MP where the 2 MP is a depth sensor to take the portrait shots for bokeh effects. Here the shots are good in the daylight which crisp shots. The camera has AI features, where if you are clicking in the AI mode, it detects the objects and beautifies the image based on the algorithms. You also have the option to select the non-AI image if you like that for certain scenarios. you also get Qmoji support to animate your expression and voice. For the rear camera,  it struggles a bit on the low light shots and there is no 4K video support which is a bit of disappointment. If you are into shooting a lot of videos from the rear camera, we will not suggest you go for this as there a lot of better options available.

The front camera has a 24MP and 2MP dual sensors are located inside the notch and does not fail to impress us anytime. The front camera of Nova 3i clicks some exceptional photos and with a dedicated depth sensor for the bokeh effect, and the portrait clicks are also just amazing and spot on. We also get the AI support for the front camera as well on the 3i and helps to beautify the scenes with its AI recognition.

This smartphone supports some other features like AI shopping and AI to directly buy by clicking any object in the image. It also supports AI gallery that allows you to search for similar images based on the sample images.

Nova 3i comes with a 128 GB of internal storage which can be expanded using the hybrid micro SD card slot up to 256 GB. The smartphone runs on EMUI 8.2 built on Android 8.1 Oreo and has a smooth usage. It supports both face (throught the front camera) and fingerprint unlock and both are quick and accurate.

The battery on Huawei Nova 3i is rated at 3340 mAh and runs through the day with a normal day to day usage like messaging, listening to songs and browsing over the internet. Nova 3i has a micro USB slot and not a Type C  and neither does the screen has scratch protection which are some of the disappointments. Also, there is no IP rating on this phone so keep it safe from the water and dust.

So what you get in this 20k budget smartphone are beautiful looks, decent camera and good performance. But before you make a decision and have a knack of powerful performance over the looks, then look at the Honor play review which was launched a few days after the Huawei Nova 3i and comes with Kirin 970 and offers much better performance, better battery but harder to grab as it comes in flash sale.

9. Vivo X21

Vivo X21 is one of the latest phones under 25000 in India

Features

  • 6 GB RAM | 128 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 6.3 inch Full HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 12MP + 5MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 12MP
  • 3200mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black Colors

Best Price ₹26990

Brief Review:

Vivo X21 is the latest entrant in the smartphone world launched in last week in May 2018 and was first seen in the CES 2018. Vivo X21, which is more or less Vivo V9 but with this new technological marvel called in-display fingerprint sensor. We took out Vivo V21 for a spin and here are our findings.

Let us talk about the design and build quality. The smartphone packs a glass back with curved edges making it a good grip. It is not a refreshing new design and we are not complaining. The aluminium frame with glass backs melds into each other quite nicely. The device is just 7.5mm thick and this makes It quite sleek without all the flashiness. On the front, there is a tall 19:9 AMOLED Display which happens to be quite a giant as well being 6.28 inches in size. With a Full HD Plus resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and pixel density of 402PPI, this display is not the best one we’ve seen but it certainly is good enough for the mid-segment where this device is fighting. It has vibrant colours and solid brightness levels.

Vivo X21 inherits Its design from V9, ergo the notch. Like it or not, It is the new cool. The only comfort is that It is quite smaller than iPhone X. The smartphone has lost all bezels and It couldn’t drop that fat chin. On the back, we find the familiar, vertically stacked dual sensor camera with a sharp rim around the camera housing, followed by a LED flash. There is a bold, shining Vivo branding at the centre with a ‘designed by Vivo’ written at the bottom end. Vivo has not compromised on placing 3.5mm jack but the existence of MicroUSB instead of USB-C feels odd.

Vivo X21 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, which is a shining octa-core CPU with all new Kryo cores. The CPU consists of 4x2.2 GHz Kryo 260 & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 260 and this is not flagship grade but is still serious power. Adreno 512 is also onboard as GPU coupled with plush 6GB of RAM. There were no performance issues in our testing, you can’t tell difference in the performance compared to Snapdragon 835 until It gets too extreme, which is really appreciated. We pushed the device with multiple heavyweight apps and games running all at once and it took it all with grace, thanks in part to the giant 6GB RAM. Multitasking is enjoyable and app switching is really smooth.

The performance of the device is right on point from the most casual of apps to the most demanding ones, it can take it all and more. We particularly enjoyed gaming on this device, Adreno 512 is just crazy fast and the big 6.3-inch FHD+ panel augments the experience. It would have been the best performer in the range, hadn’t It been for OnePlus devices. Overall, we are quite pleased with the performance, it is super smooth and packs a glaring punch when It is required. The smartphone comes with 128GB of onboard storage which is already a high point, yet is expandable via MicroSD. On benchmarking, Vivo X21 scored a sizeable 141235 on AnTuTu and we got scores of 1571, 5779 on GeekBench single core and multi-core tests.

Let us talk about the camera now, Vivo X21 is not under-gunned when It comes to cameras as It has a dual sensor setup with the primary shooter being a 12 MP (f/1.8, 1/2.5", 1.4µm, Dual Pixel PDAF) and the second one being a 5 MP (f/2.4) with LED flash. The camera app looks quite like the one on iOS. The inspiration is all over the smartphone experience. In general, the camera performance is impressive with good lighting and it is not top of the table but it is kind of good. As the lighting gets a bit low, the noise and grains increase resulting in mediocre shots. The second sensor means portrait effects and the smartphone does is quite well, It is not the finest and most realistic ones we have seen but edge detection and separation are on point most of the times. On the front camera, we have a 12MP, f/2.0 sensor which does take decent shots with a good amount of detail but again struggles as the lights go down. It gets the job done most of the times. The front sensor also has portrait effects though they are software based and they are again not the best but do produce decent selfies otherwise. The image processing needs a bit of refinement as the photos get excessively sharpened sometimes.

It goes without saying that Vivo has done a good job with amazing hardware into X21 but the same can’t be said for software. The software has been Vivo’s let down for quite many smartphone models and X21 is just the latest in line. Vivo X21 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Vivo’s custom skin FunTouch OS 4.0. Again, as everything else FunTouch OS goes beyond the word ‘inspiration’ to rip off elements from iOS. The solace comes from the fact that we can install Nova launcher and get around the true-android way in style. There are a host of minor nagging issues here and there in the skin which sums up resulting in quite a struggling experience. Vivo can love iOS and Apple all they want but they need to refine FunTouch in greater ways If they want their software to not spoil the drive of the impressive hardware they ship.

The battery on Vivo X21 is a non-removable 3200mAh one which is again not a delighting news considering the giant 6.3-inch display this battery has to power. On normal use, It would last through the day but once you start to crank it up, get your charger ready by the end of the day or even before. Talking of charging, there is fast charging thanks to Qualcomm’s QuickCharge which makes the smartphone charge to full in just 110 minutes. There is no USB-C here, which feels kind of off in the price range but we have no complaints with the MicroUSB port on the smartphone.

Let us talk about something Vivo has been flaunting a lot and is actually the major innovative medal for this smartphone - The In-display fingerprint scanner. While you take this smartphone in hand you notice that there is no fingerprint sensor at the back or front, so where is It? Vivo has been the first smartphone manufacturer to get It hands on the in-display fingerprint scanner. It is not that bad, It works fine in most cases but It is still not up to the responsiveness and fluidity. It is not all over the screen so you have to put your fingers on a certain spot for It to work. Its fast but is still a split second slower than other contemporary fingerprint scanners like the one on Pixel 2 or OnePlus 6. It is a good add-on and we believe a lot of smartphones are going to have it in future, alongside face unlock which is also there on the smartphone which is a tad faster and feels more natural.

The sound levels are pretty decent and balanced, the speaker is not the loudest but It certainly has enough. Its a single downward firing speaker like most smartphones. Vivo X21 also has an active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, so the in-call noise is reduced and It works fine. Vivo X21 does not come with any IP rating so you need to keep your phone safe from water and dust or any other damage.

The smartphone is an overall complete package but slightly overpriced and faces competition from the top-notch OnePlus 6 and Honor 10.

Brief Review:

When we saw all new Nokia 6, we knew HMD isn’t gonna stop there and here we have one more - The all new Nokia 7 Plus. Announced in February 2018, Nokia 7 Plus aims to consolidate HMD’s ground in the under 25000 smartphone segment. As always, Nokia 7 Plus speaks volumes about Nokia’s commitment to design and build supremacy. It is built with 6000 series Aluminium and has copper edges looks amazing and feels amazingly solid in hand. As is with other Nokia smartphones, the pursuit of durability and sturdiness often lets ergonomics down.

Nokia 7 Plus has the all-new 18:9 aspect ratio with almost no side bezels but considerable ones on top and bottom. There’s a 6-inch, Full HD+1080 x 2160 pixels, IPS LCD display packing 403 PPI. There’s some protection with Gorilla Glass 3 on top. At the back, we have the same iconic vertical cutout for the camera and the flash with emblazoned Zeiss branding. Nokia 7 Plus has a dual camera setup, followed by a circular cutout for a fingerprint scanner.

Let’s talk about the performance of Nokia 7 Plus because the guys at HMD have been bailing on that previously. The Nokia 7 Plus has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 at its heart backed by Adreno 512 for gaming. There’s a big 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, which makes the operation swift and smooth. The storage is expandable via MicroSD up to 256GB. In the numbers game, the superb performance of this smartphone is pretty evident - 141822 on AnTuTu 7 Benchmark and 1641, 5920 on GeekBench single and multi-core tests respectively. These numbers are certainly better than smartphones like Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 Pro and Oppo R11s.

Photography is one thing we expect a Nokia smartphone to be excellent at. There’s not one but dual camera setup on Nokia 7 Plus to give fodder to our excitement. There is a 12 MP sensor which is the main lens and 13 MP sensor being the telelens for optical zoom. The camera has gyro EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization), dual pixel phase detection autofocus, 2x optical zoom along with the very famous Carl Zeiss Optics. The camera is undoubtedly one of the best we have seen in the bracket, It takes great low-light shots with low levels of noise and great detail. On the front, there’s an equally impressive 16 MP (f/2.0, 1.0 µm) sensor which guarantees great looking selfies.  If you want a great camera on a smartphone and avoid spending fortunes on flagships - Nokia 7 Plus just might be for you.

The camera app of Nokia 7 Plus has options for HDR mode, Bothie mode that allows capturing pictures from both front and rear camera together, beautification mode, and a Pro mode. Like the Nokia 8, Nokia 7 Plus comes with OZO Audio technology that captures the right sounds and reduces the noise while capturing videos.

Nokia 7 Plus runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, under Google’s Android One Program - which means timely and hassle-free updates to pure stock Android on Nokia 7 Plus. HMD promises the Android P and Q updates to Nokia 7 Plus as they are out. We really admire the stock Android experience and mixed with timely updates - Nokia smartphones are really doing great with software.

There is a big 3800mAh battery, which is great for the smartphone to be up all day long and when you do need to charge - there’s USB-C based fast charging to sweeten the experience. Nokia 7 is built with all the major connectivity features including VoLTE and Bluetooth 5.0. The smartphone is very robust in build and would hardly take a dent and has an IP54 rating which is better than nothing for protection against water. Don’t know about IP ratings? Here’s an amazing-amazing article.

Nokia 7 Plus would cost ₹ 25,999 which is again Nokia-grade overpriced. There are some amazing alternatives but If you want to go with amazing build quality and some supercool Zeiss shots, Nokia 7 Plus won’t disappoint. You can pre-book the phone on April 20th and it will go on sale on April 30.
