Coolpad, a not very known but aggressively priced smartphone manufacturer launched Coolpad Cool Play 6, in September 2017 in India. Coolpad emphasized that the Cool Play 6 is built keeping mobile gaming in mind. Coolpad Cool Play 6 is a beautiful smartphone with a big 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with an excellent full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio making a pixel density of around 400 PPI. The display is good with rich and vibrant colours, avid brightness and good contrast.
The build is really sturdy and holds to that premium feel quite strongly with that rim and metal unibody design which is no more unique but definitely feels good in the hand. The device is not very thin at 8.5mm and weighs about 175 gram which is not light either. You have a mirror finish fingerprint scanner at the back which just looks horrible to me.
Coolpad Cool Play 6 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 SoC supported by a whopping 6GB of RAM. This device really outshines all the competitors in its price range. Coolpad Cool Play 6 comes with a standard 64GB Internal storage which can’t be increased by using MicroSD, which is the only thing that might bum you off if you store lots and lots of things in your phone. Coolpad Cool Play 6 as claimed by Coolpad is built keeping mobile gaming in mind, to support that argument, Coolpad Cool Play 6 has an all new thermal system that keeps the device cool even after long gaming sessions. Coolpad Cool Play 6 has got some really formidable specs, that just can’t be appreciated enough at this price point. On the AnTuTu Benchmark score, Coolpad Cool Play 6 gets a whopping 89,233 just behind Oppo F3 Plus. The same happens with GeekBench, with a single core score of 1413 and a multicore score of 4732 leaving Oppo F3 Plus behind.
The Coolpad Cool Play 6 has a brilliant spec-sheet given its price. The device is a true performer and does align well with the maker’s claim at mobile gaming. As it happens, smartphones which are good at gaming are also excellent at usual everyday tasks and Coolpad Cool Play 6 doesn’t fail. With that giant 6GB of RAM, multitasking is a breeze.
Focusing on the cameras, the device showcases a dual rear camera organisation with two 13MP + 13MP, f/2.0, sensors packed with all the usual features such as Autofocus, Face Detection, Panorama, HDR and a lot more. On the front, we have an 8MP f/2.2 sensor for selfies. The dual setup does decent work if not excellent. It's not prepared for low-light conditions. The depth effect is good. The camera is not the strongest suit of Coolpad Cool Play 6 but does produce some cool shots that exhibit good contrast levels, good dynamic range and the colour reproduction is also commendable. Sensors pick the detail quite nicely but software needs more polish and better image processing to take the camera performance ahead.
The Coolpad Cool Play 6 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, with a promised update to Oreo in future. Journey UI, Coolpad’s own custom skin on top of Android 7.1.1 harms the experience but that’s the case with most of the OEMs out there. The performance is smooth and doesn’t stutter, but the experience is not very engaging. You’ll be looking for a new launcher soon.
To power Coolpad Cool Play 6 with its beastly performance, you get a 4060mAh juice pack that does good enough to pull the smartphone through the day. With all the heavy gaming gear the Coolpad Cool Play 6 has got, It's a great add-on. Sadly the charging is slow and takes 0-50% in more than 2 hours, that’s super slow. There’s no IP rating associated with the device so It would be nice for the device if you keep it distant from liquids and dust.
As always, Coolpad has priced this smartphone quite aggressively at around Rs.14,999 in India and can be bought from Amazon. We really love the device at this price point, sure it has got some glitches in the camera department and Android experience is not stock, Coolpad Cool Play 6 definitely is the best hardware packed phone in the price bracket and the cheapest phone with 6GB of RAM and a decent enough dual camera setup. Coolpad Cool Play 6 could be Coolpad’s claim to fame.
So if you are not that brand fanatic and look for a relishing gaming experience in this price range, you can go ahead with this Coolpad Cool Play 6 that offers great battery backup and seamless gaming experience.
