Well, Google’s into hardware and It's going super strong, which is quite reflective of this Android-flagship-redefined smartphone by Google. Pixel 2 XL device is an absolute love, nothing in the Android world comes close to it. Even after lots of controversies and issues, this smartphone sets a new benchmark for the Android world and we are loving it. Google launched Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL at its October 4, 2017, Event.
Pixel 2 XL continues on the design of Pixel with a myriad of changes, yet the device feels so radically different and familiar at the same time. Google’s best features a sturdy metal build with rubberised polish on back making it easier to hold and feels nice in hand. It has an edge to edge full 6-inch display at a resolution of 1440 pixels by 2880 pixels at a PPI of 538 pixels per inch. We are no fan of the carnival oversaturation on Samsung displays, but this one is more soothing and natural, some might say it dull but it's very subjective and depends on person to person. Apart from that, the POLED panel has got a lot of controversies in its name for a lot of issues including burn ins in just a week. A lot of these issues are serious from a company like Google and some of them could be fixed by software, which Google must be hard working at. The other peculiar thing which is a trait of the display and cannot be corrected in the blue tint on the screen when the screen is viewed at some angle.
As with the flagships, Pixel 2 XL has the same beast Snapdragon 835, coupled with a decent 4GB of RAM. It packs 64GB of internal storage that cannot be expanded. This one is an absolute performer in real life with no performance issues whatsoever. The Antutu benchmark score of Google Pixel 2 XL is around 1,70,000. Check out where the iPhone X and iPhone 8 stands.
Since the launch of Pixel 2, the mobile smartphone camera standards have been shattered. The Pixel 2 XL just excels at camera quality, with no arguments. The images are vivid, natural, crisp, with high dynamic range and superb white balance. We will just pause by saying that this is the best camera on a smartphone for 2017. Period. Google’s might in software and machine learning takes it ahead of the competition. On the spec sheet, Google Pixel 2 XL packs a 12.2-megapixel primary camera on the rear which has optical image stabilization and wide aperture, while the front has an 8-megapixel shooter for selfies. The camera is overall a big upgrade and main star of this phone. It works well in both daylight and low light conditions. Some of the land space shots in the low light were found to have some noise.
What’s not news is that the Google’s home run phone for this year runs on the latest and greatest Android 8.0 Oreo. With all the updates coming first and foremost to Pixel. Android 8 takes the Android experience forward with some great under the hood improvements, It's faster than ever and smoother than ever. This update to Android really alleviates some system-wide issues, elevating performance to new levels. It's all sweet and sweet if you get the Oreo update. With some great Pixel exclusive features such as Google Lens which can fetch contextual information from photos, like address, mobile number and could even tell the species of a flower, Google Pixel 2 XL also has an active edge feature which allows you to launch the Google Assistant by squeezing the sides of the phone. With all these, Pixel 2 XL really makes a mark when it comes to experience.
What’s great is that you get a massive 3520mAh battery, which easily lasts for a day. With that energy efficient POLED panel, the battery lasts longer. Google has ALMOST got all the pieces right this time around with some top of the line hardware, exceptional software by Google and the power of AI right in your hands. It is really distressful that Google has not been able to cash on this superb smartphone, credits to all the controversies and issues that have engulfed the device. Whether it be the display issues, or difference in sounds from speakers, or even no OS on some devices. Google needs to up its game in quality and manufacturing to deliver the quality smartphones it wants to.
As seen in iPhones, Google has also dropped the headphone 3.5mm jack in the Pixel 2 XL. The phone supports fast charging which has charge 90% in just about an hour.
As in other flagships devices, Pixel 2XL is also IP67 Certified, which makes it waterproof for up to 1 meter and 30 minutes, and completely dustproof, you can read more on the IP ratings here.
Overall, it delivers well but the controversies have played a negative tone to the phone, It has greatest of all camera and build quality. Certainly, the value for money score is lower in the flagships but they do offer the best of swift experiences.
