Huawei Mate 20 Pro Brief Review and Pros Cons:

The mate series the pro, in particular, is basically what the note line up is to the actual S series of Samsung. It was what the S was for iPhone to the normal line-up and is what the T to the normal one plus phones. The Mate 20 pro might be a phone of 2018 but in 2019, does it hold the grip for a flagship phone. Let us find out in this review Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

As a flagship price, this Mate 20 Pro phone checks every single box that it should be checking, great: build and design, battery life, display, camera, and performance.

Let us begin with build and design. It would not be good to call it a great looking phone and be done with it. This is because the phone is basically the reflection of Huawei’s over the year design refinement glass to the front and back and what remains is simply a piece of art. The gradient back panel has become pretty common these days however let’s take a while to appreciate Huawei as they were the ones to come up with it. Fortunately, the Mate 20 pro comes with thus gradient color at the back and it in one word looks beautiful. Other design aspects include great tactile buttons with the power button paint jobbed to a different color and texture. The build quality is very solid and the glass back somewhat sticks on hand to prevent accidental fall.

Coming to the display we simply have a beautiful 3120 x 1440 HDR OLED display at 6.39 inch which has a whopping 538-pixel density. All the numbers and specs aside this display simply put is a miniature canvas. Colors are on pint vivid punchy and thanks to it being an OLED type panel blacks are deep and the display looks overall stunning. The notch on the display that houses the cameras and the earpiece. One other perk in the display is the inclusion of an in-display fingerprint scanner which is pretty great and accurate about 90% of the times.

Let us now discuss the processor on this smartphone, the Huawei in house Kirin 980 which is the world’s first 7nm manufacturing processed processor. Not only this but the Kirin 980 is also the words first cortex-A76 architecture chipset. This is a processor with 2 Cortex-A76 at 2.6gHz, another 2 Cortex-A76 at 1.92gHz and finally 4 power efficient cortex-A55 at 1.8 GHz. This results in a massively powerful processor. The GPU is handled again by the very powerful Mali-G76 which seemingly delivers while playing those great games. All in all, this is an extremely powerful processor and day to day task feels like a breeze on the phone.

On the AnTuTu benchmark, the phone scores a massive 313561.HiSilicon Kirin 980, this is assisted by a 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 512 GB using a hybrid nano sim slot. Overall you will not face a single hiccup with this phone at any level of multitasking.

Up next we have probably the most polarizing feature of the phone. The camera review or in this case cameras. On the rear we have 3 cameras assisted by dual tone LED flash. The 3 cameras consist of a primary RGB 40MP F1.8 sensor, a 29MP F2.2 Ultra-wide sensor, and an 8MP F2.0 Telephoto sensor. The selfie shooter upfront is a 24MP F2.0 sensor, also this camera is flanked by a 3-D IR scanner just like the one on iPhone X and works pretty much the same too. Coupled with the tuning from Leica the Mate 20 pro simply redefines mobile photography as no other company has done ever before.

Pictures just come out beautifully with great details and clarity all thanks to the 40MP sensor. The ultra-wide sensor is no slouch either at 20MP its capable of shots that make other phone users take a step back in order to fit everything in the frame. Not only this but the wide-angle lens is also capable of shooting beautiful macro shots too. To be precise shots of up to 2.5cm of close range can be shot. The telephoto does what it does best that is separates the foreground from the background to give those portraits that we have come to love.

All in all, if point and shoot phone camera could be crowned to phone the Mate 20 pro would definitely be on top of the list.

Coming to the battery capacity and of this highly impressive Mate 20 Pro. It comes with a massive 4200mAh battery. This simply translates to a full heavy day battery life and at least 1.5 days for a medium level user. Now the capacity does not just end there. If you thought the flagship OnePlus 6T was fast with its dash charge the Mate 20 Pro takes charging to a whole new level. The in-box charger is rated at a massive 40W, not just this but the charger can charge your Mate 20 pro up to 70% in only 30 minutes. That charging the 4200mAh battery to 2940mAh in just 30 minutes.

The phone runs on Huawei’s custom-built EMUI 9.0 atop Android 9.0 which has some bloatware but also offers many useful features. The Mate 20 Pro also has the IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

Amongst other features, we get an in display fingerprint sensor for unlocking which works smoothly. The face unlocking does a 3D mapping of the face as we first saw on the iPhone X and does a great job in quickly and accurately unlocking the phone even in dark. We also have an IR blaster that we have seen in most of the Redmi Phones and the phone can be used as a remote for your daily use appliances. The Mate 20 Pro misses on the headphone jack and only has a type C port. Thankfully, they have bundled a type C earphones into the box and a type C to 3.5 mm jack converter.

Overall, this Huawei Mate 20 Pro is an excellent flagship smartphone which comes with a brilliant display and design, powerful processor, great camera quality, massive battery backup and a bunch of cool features. The only thing that hits back in the software which might also improve with time. For a flagship device and someone with a budget of around 60000, Mate 20 Pro is a good buy.
