Mi A1 Brief Review and Pros Cons:

Mi A1 is the latest smartphone from Xiaomi and it is a new series. The USP of the device is the dual camera at the back. Redmi claims that the camera quality is similar or better than the current flagships like iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5. Xiaomi has partnered with Google for Android One project and that is why Mi A1 comes with stock android which should make multitasking a breeze. Plus, it will be one of the first phones to receive Android O and P update. 

Mi A1 has a 5.5 inch Full HD display on the front. The color reproduction is good and viewing angles are great. The build quality of the Mi A1 is solid. The phone feels good in the hand thanks to the curved edges. The Mi A1 looks like iPhone 7 Plus from the back because of horizontal dual camera setup and antenna bands on the top. OnePlus guys copied the iPhone 7 Plus design for OnePlus 5 and so did Xiaomi for Mi A1.

In the camera department, we have a dual 12MP + 12MP camera on the back of Mi A1. This camera setup is similar to iPhone 7 Plus camera setup where one camera has a wide angle lens and the second camera has a telephoto lens. The telephoto lens helps in zooming and Mi A1 is capable of up to 2X optical zoom. This setup is costly than other setups like color + color or monochrome + color and performs better as well. The pixel size is also larger which helps in low light conditions. The camera performs really well and it is clearly the best camera phone in this range. Moto G5S Plus was launched last week with a dual camera and looks like Mi A1 is going to beat it in sales volumes.

The processor is Snapdragon 625 with 4GB of RAM. The hardware is good and Mi A1 is able to handle heavy games easily so it is a good mid-range option for gamers as well. The Snapdragon 625 chipset is built on 14nm technology is very power efficient so battery backup is expected to be good.

The battery has been kept at 3080mAh. You should get a day of backup on a single charge. The battery capacity is lower than 4000mAh battery we saw on Redmi Note 4. Maybe they wanted to keep the phone slim and stylish so had to compromise with battery capacity. Xiaomi has gone to Type C port this time which means transfer speed should very good.

Other features of the Mi A1 are the fingerprint sensor on the back and IR blaster at the top. The IR blaster can be used to control your appliances like TV, AC etc which comes in handy sometimes. Mi A1 was available in Black and Gold color before. Now, Xiaomi has launched a Rose Gold color as well. We think it looks really good. Take a look at it here on Flipkart.

Overall Mi A1 is an excellent smartphone. You get the best software experience with a flagship standard dual camera on the back at a budget price. After Redmi Note 4, we expect this will be another hit for Xiaomi. Lenovo K8 Note and Moto G5S Plus are going to suffer if Xiaomi is able to provide sufficient supply of Mi A1.
