Motorola Moto X4 was released at an event at IFA in Berlin in September and the phone is set to launch in India on 13th November. With Moto X4, Motorola makes a comeback with its X series phones in the mid-range segment. The phone looks stunning, has a powerful hardware inside and many new features.
Though we call Moto X4 as a mid-range phone its looks and design are extremely premium. The smartphone features a 5.2 inch IPS LCD display and has glass on both front and back and a metal frame in between but lacks a bezel-less display. The front of the Moto X4 which is protected by a Corning Gorilla glass comes with a fingerprint sensor at the bottom and a front camera of 16 MP at the top. The back of the phone hosts a dual camera setup of 12 MP + 8 MP which protrudes little out from the back panel.
Motorola Moto X4 comes with an IP68 certified tag, which can keep in Dust and waterproof for up to 1.5 Meters and 30 minutes. Ohh, and one other great news about Moto X4 is the Stock Android experience, currently working with Android 7.1(Nougat) and a planned upgrade to Android 8.0 (Oreo).
In terms of the performance factor, Moto X4 comes powered by 2.2 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Chipset, with an Antutu benchmark score of 70,000, a 10% increase over the Snapdragon 625 seen in many smartphones like Mi A1, Moto G5S Plus and Honor 9i. Moto X4 has 4GB of RAM and internal storage of 64 GB which is expandable up to 2TB, so memory and RAM are never going to be an issue. The performance is top notch and no lag experience whatsoever could be seen in our initial reviews.
Motorola Moto X4 had a lot of rumor on the camera specifications which Motorola calls Advanced Dual Rear Camera System, capable of clicking Stunning Portraits and Wide Angle landscapes. The rear camera is a dual camera setup of 12MP + 8 MP, the 12MP sensor uses Dual Autofocus Pixel technology to deliver crisp results in any lighting conditions, and the 8 MP gives a 120 Degree field of view. The rear camera setup has a Dual LED flash and can shoot videos at 4K resolution. The camera is slow and takes time to process the images. Maybe this will be fixed by Motorola with a software update.
The front camera setup of Moto X4 has a wide-angle 16 MP sensor with a LED flash with an adaptive low light mode for perfect selfie even in low light conditions.
The camera software comes with various features named as Selective Focus(Bokeh) which adds a blur to background or foreground of images while keeping the main subject in clear focus and Selective black and white which allows changing the background or foreground to black and white with the main subject in full color.
Moto X4 packs a 3,000 mAH battery, with turbocharging capability. The battery would last for around a day with normal usage. Also, the phone is sensor-rich and comes with all needed sensors like Compass, Gyroscope etc.
Apart from the regular specifications, Motorola has added some new taste to Moto X4, which comes with Bluetooth 5.0. With this upgrade, Moto X4 can stream music wirelessly to up to 4 Bluetooth speakers and headphones, whose volumes can be controlled independently.
Moto X4 is a Flipkart exclusive device in India. The 3GB-32GB variant is available at Rs. 20999 and a 4GB-64GB variant is available at Rs.22999. We think the higher variant offers more value for money so you should buy that.
One small disappointment that Moto X4 has that it does not have Radio in it. So you cannot tune in to FM with Moto X4.
Final Verdict, With all these features under its hood, Moto X4 looks like a very promising Mid-range phone, capable of redefining the market as Motorola did with its budget phones. If you are confused about color, then go for sterling blue. Black and Blue both look stunning but we all see a lot of black phones, sterling blue looks something different and is our favorite.
