Redmi Note 5 Pro 6GB Brief Review and Pros Cons:

Xiaomi has grown tremendously over last 2 years and disrupted the Smartphone Market to become the leader. This is credited to the success of Redmi 4, Redmi 4A. Redmi Note 4 which were bestsellers last year.  Today, on 14th Feb, Xiaomi has launched Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in India and is set to break and shake the industry again. Check out Redmi Note 5 here.

Redmi Note 5 comes with a 5.99-inch Bezelless(18:9) display which looks beautiful and marks the entry of Xiaomi in bezel-less phones in the budget segment. The infinity display has a resolution of 1080p Full HD Plus which good viewing angles and vibrant and punchier colors. Note 5 Pro has a metal unibody design and a very strong build quality, something inspired by the Redmi Note 4.

The display size, though, has increased to 5.99 inches, the size of the device is almost same as other 5.5 inch devices as Xiaomi has reduced the bezels. So if you are using a 5.5-inch device, you won't find any difficulty operating with Redmi 5 Pro. With no bezels, the navigation buttons move to On-Screen buttons.

On the Camera side, the smartphone does a wonderful job, it comes with a Dual Rear Camera with a Sony12MP sensor with f2.2 aperture and a Samsung 5MP sensor with f2.0 aperture. These 2 lenses on the back are stacked vertically, similar to something seen in iPhone X. The dual camera can take excellent portrait mode pictures with bokeh effect. Performance is similar to what we saw on Mi A1.

On the Front Camera, we have a special selfie-focused Sony IMX376 sensor, with a resolution of 20MP and f2.0 aperture. It is a great camera for selfies lovers. There is flash on the front side so low light selfies also look decent. Do note that the front camera is capable of taking portrait mode selfies as well with bokeh effect. During our initial test, the selfies came out sharp. The portrait mode worked well with good edge detection and blur effect. We think Redmi 5 Pro is probably the best selfie phone from Xiaomi.

Let's talk about video recording now. Redmi Note series has been weak with video recording as there was no stabilization available. But things have changed now and Redmi Note 5 Pro has EIS(Electronic Stabilization) so the videos won't be shaky and will look much better than other Redmi Series smartphones. In our initial tests, the videos looked good and stabilization also worked well. There's no option to record 4K videos so that a negative.

The camera on both front and rear does a brilliant job overall and you won't have any complaints given the price point at which Xiaomi offers all these features. This Camera performance of Redmi Note 5 Pro has a lot of improvements compared to Redmi Note 4(2017 Best Selling Smartphone) or the Redmi Note 5. Camera lovers won't be disappointed with Redmi Note 5's performance.

This budget beast gets a big boost in the processor department and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 which has an Antutu Score of around 1,10,000. Redmi Note 4 comes with Snapdragon 625 which scores around 65000 on Antutu benchmark. So by this comparison, the Note 5 Pro has 70-80% more processing power.

It comes in two variants, one with 4GB RAM and other with 6GB of RAM clubbed with 64 GB of internal memory in both the variants, assuring of a power-packed performance with Smooth Multitasking and no lag or delay even with the higher end games. Xiaomi has used DDR4 RAM here which is a great thing because we don't really see DDR4 in budget phones. Only the flagship phones are using DDR4 as of now.

The back of Redmi Note 5 Pro has a curved back making it easier to hold and grip. There is a 2.5D gorilla glass on the display. With a strong build quality, great looks, this Note 5 Pro certainly feels nice in hand. Xiaomi has added a translucent silicon case in the box which fits the phone very nicely. Thumbs up to Xiaomi for adding a free case.

Redmi Note 5 Pro, comes with a fingerprint sensor that is quick in unlocking your phone. Xiaomi has added the face unlock feature in the first update. In our initial tests, the face unlock has been working great. It is quick and unlocks the phone in less than a second. Plus, it works even when your phone is about at waist height and you are looking at it. So, you can just take your phone out of pocket and look at it, it will unlock. You don't need to lift the phone to face height to unlock it. We liked the speed and accuracy of the Xiaomi's face lock. Also, it didn't work when eyes were closed so you don't have to worry about someone unlocking your phone when you are sleeping.

The Redmi Note 5 is not water resistant or dust proof as it does not have any IP rating.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is running on latest MIUI 9 which is based on Android Nougat 7.1.2,  which will surely be upgraded to Android Oreo in the near future. Those who love stock android won't like the MIUI interface so just go for Nova Launcher.

Still not able to hold what all this smartphone offer. Hold Tight. Apart from raking in the best features in all the departments, This Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a big 4000mAH which can easily last of 1.5 - 2 days in case of normal usage, given it comes with a power efficient processor. In first few days of use, we got 7 to 8 hours of screen on time which is excellent for a large 6 inch display phone with a powerful processor.

Our charging tests are still in progress and we will add results here soon.

With ranking high in this department as well, Redmi Note 5 Pro, does not leave any point that can be strictly negative towards it.

Overall, Redmi Note 5 Pro is a great value for money smartphone which looks decent and performs well. It is a great phone under 20000.
