The Redmi Note 6 Pro is a slightly improved version of the bestseller Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi claims that they have sold more than 10M units of Note 5 Pro which is incredible. Redmi Note 5 Pro was a great phone and redefined what the mid-range segment. Things have changed a lot since then and now we have plenty of great options in under 15000 segment like Realme 2 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, Honor 8X etc.
Design wise, Note 6 Pro looks exactly same as Note 5 Pro. The only difference you will notice is the display which now comes with a notch. The display size is 6.26 inches and the overall size of the phone is same as Note 5 Pro. The phone has the same metal unibody design and the build is solid. The phone is a bit slippery because of the metal so using a case would be a good choice. The camera placement on the back is same as before. The display resolution is Full HD+ and it not comes with a notch on top which is a little big than what we usually see. Big notches are terrible because they don't leave much space for the notification icons which can be a real problem for some users.
The rear camera on Redmi Note 6 Pro is 12MP+5MP dual setup. The resolution numbers are same as Note 5 Pro but the sensor has been upgraded. It comes with a 1.4-micrometer pixel size and wider f/1.9 aperture offer you an enhanced low-light photography experience. In our review, the low light shots showed significant improvement. On the front, there is a 20MP+2MP dual camera setup. The 2MP is just a depth sensor. The performance of the front camera is also really good and it takes sharp pictures. Portrait mode on both front and rear works well with good edge detection. You can adjust the amount of bokeh/blur after taking the picture.
The battery on Note 6 Pro is the same 4000 mAh which we have seen earlier. The battery backup is a bit better though. You can expect 2 days backup with low usage and 1.5 days backup with medium usage which is excellent. The phone also supports QC 3.0 fast charging but comes with the same 5V 2A charger. If you need to use fast charging, you should buy a fast charger separately. It would have been great if Xiaomi would have included a fast charger inside the box.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro is powered by the same Snapdragon 636 chipset which we saw in Note 5 Pro. Snapdragon 636 is a good power efficient chipset and handles multiple apps and games with ease. An upgrade to Snapdragon 660 would have been great still 636 is not bad at all. It scores around 110000 in Antutu benchmarks.
The phone runs on MIUI which is a customized skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Android 9 Pie update is coming soon as well. The software is a bit bloated and kills apps aggressively to save battery. You can change that in the settings though. The UI isn't great so we suggest installing Nova launcher which provides a much cleaner experience.
The Note 6 Pro comes in 2 variants: 4GB RAM 64GB storage and 6GB RAM 64GB storage. We are not getting any 128GB variant which is disappointing considering the fact that other brands are providing 128GB variants under 20000 Rs.
Overall, Redmi Note 6 Pro is a phone which is not so exciting and doesn't pack any major upgrades but still performs well in almost every department. Camera, battery, looks, performance everything is decent and at 12999 it offers good value for money. If you have Note 5 Pro, then you don't need to upgrade. If you are using any other phone and need an allrounder under Rs. 15000 then Note 6 Pro is a great option.

Redmi Note 6 Pro has a lot in similar with the Redmi Note 5 Pro which was a bestseller for Xiaomi and has sold more than 10M units in India. Note 6 Pro is a good smartphone but not a big upgrade over the previous version. There's nothing wrong with the device, the camera performance is good, battery is excellent, multitasking is a breeze. If you have Note 5 Pro, don't upgrade. If you are using some other device and need a new phone under 15000, then Note 6 Pro is a good option.
