Samsung doesn’t really trust in value for money and is quite reliant on Its loyal fanbase across the subcontinent. For people, who just can’t get enough of Samsung, the company has been steady albeit slowly trickling down features from Its star-of-the-arena flagships. So, Samsung has been quietly upgrading Its mid-segment and ‘budget’ arsenal with top of the line, 2018-grade features namely face unlock, minimal bezels and some more minor add-ons.
After some success with the A and the J series of smartphones, Samsung is looking to strengthen ita base with its J series lineup with the latest trends and Samsung Galaxy J6 becomes the first smartphone to receive the 2018 treatment. Let’s find out what all Samsung has packed in there to delight the customers. Let us look at point by point review of the Samsung Galaxy J6 features and specifications.
Talking about the design and build quality of Samsung Galaxy J6, iconic Samsung design thrills could be well sensed here with a tall display, slightly rounded-more squarish feel. The smartphone looks great, especially that blue shade but when you hold It you know It that Its built of plastic with no trace of metal or the aluminium frame you’ve come to expect of upper budget range smartphones. That doesn’t take away the fact that the smartphone looks nice and feels solid.
It is fairly slim at 8.2mm and weighs only 154 grams which are nice numbers for a comfortable use. On the front, you’ll find the touted ‘Infinity’ display which is just Samsung teasing you with Its toned version of edge to edge displays, not curved and with some bezels up top and bottom. The design is not exactly surprising for Samsung smartphones. At the back we find a single sensor based camera setup sitting at the centre with a flash and fingerprint sensor and then there is the same silver Samsung branding. So, to sum It up - Samsung Galaxy J6 is not exactly new on the design front and looks like most other Samsung smartphones, the new is the display which now goes to the edges of the smartphone. Its solid but not metal solid and feels good in the hand.
On the display side of the Galaxy J6, it has a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 720 x 1480 pixel resolution at an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. That makes up ~294 PPI on pixel density and while the display isn’t really at the top with other smartphones in resolution, Its really nice display credits to Samsung’s AMOLED panel. The contrast levels are great since Its AMOLED, the colours are punchy and brightness is in plenty. It is a great show affair and we think you’ll share this opinion.
Samsung phones have not been the best multitasking machines, even in 2018, when other phones are raking in with the best processors. But still, Samsung has been able to crack its fan base audience very well. This is where Samsung ‘budget’ and most of Its mid-range devices seem to slack and this time Its no different. Samsung Galaxy J6 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7870, which is basically composed of eight Cortex A53s clocked at 1.6GHz. On the graphical processing, J6 has got Mali-T830 MP1. Now, this configuration is not really even a close match for other smartphones in the range packing the best of the crop Snapdragon 636.
Don’t get us wrong, the smartphone packs enough to get you done through basic everyday usage- checking emails, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and some casual gaming but as things start to get serious you start seeing frame drops, stutters and lags. To consolidate multi-tasking, there is 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is on par with the pricing. So, If you expect serious performance from your smartphone Samsung Galaxy J6 can be a disappointment but for normal, casual usage, Its nothing bad. It scores around 47000 on the Antutu Benchmark which is again not the best but if you are a Samsung love but not a performance freak. Samsung Galaxy J6 would not disappoint you. It has a dedicated microSD card slot to expand the storage by upto 256 GB which is a good addon point from Samsung.
The camera has been one of the favourites of Samsung and comes with a long-standing reputation. They have some of the best cameras in the range and we are delighted to give a nod to that here as well. Samsung Galaxy J6 has a 13 MP (f/1.9, 28mm) sensor with AF and LED flash. So no dual sensors but that isn’t bad news for the people looking to get background blur as Samsung has equipped the smartphone with software-based bokeh tricks which don’t go well all the time but you can expect them to be almost close to other smartphones in the range with dual sensors.
Coming to image quality, the camera takes great shots with an abundance of detail at daylight, the exposure and the white balance hits on the spot. Though, the Samsung style saturated colours and sharpening can be seen. The camera holds its ground gracefully in low-light conditions as well, the shots are not awesome but impressive for a budget aimed device, which can’t be said for most other smartphones in the range. On the front, there is an 8 MP, a f/1.9 sensor with LED flash, again ready to make your selfies shine even in low-lights and It works really great, so If you want to keep your self-fame strong - J6 is a great choice.
Let’s talk about the software - Samsung’s Experience UI 9.0 can be seen on top of Android 8.0 Oreo. Now, the experience is snappy and responsive but the minimal and uncluttered appeal Samsung gained with this new UI theming is slowly fading away with tons of bloatware and redundant apps. So, If you seek a clean, neat performant software experience Samsung won’t be the apt choice but it does have some nifty additions like the bike mode and others which are really practical.
Samsung Galaxy J6 is powered by a 3000mAh which is a decent performer and can get you through the day on normal usage but If you like to heat things up a charger would be essential to carry around. So the shocker comes as there is no fast charging support or USB-C. There is no IP rating as well which we usually expect from Samsung, so would be wise to keep It distant from water. Except that, there is Samsung Face Unlock which works decently - it is not insanely fast but gets the job done and for all the faster requirements there is the fingerprint scanner at the back.
The smartphone is out there for you to buy on Flipkart. The pricing puts it in the den of budget lions like Asus Zenfone Max M1 and of course Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. The smartphone is available in two colour options- Blue and Black, Blue stands as out as the favourite.

Samsung Galaxy J6 comes with as an improved Samsung smartphone when compared to its previous launches. Though the processor and multitasking are still given a lower weightage, the camera, design, and features like face unlocking have made it to a Samsung smartphone under 15000. Overall a good smartphone, considering the samsung brand.
