Samsung Galaxy J8 Brief Review and Pros Cons:

Samsung Galaxy J8 is the next smartphone under 20000 to hold an infinity display with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. As seen in almost all the Samsung smartphones of above 15000 range, they come with an AMOLED display. This Galaxy J8 has a screen size of 6 inches with HD Plus resolution. The screen is bright and has a good colour reproduction but it is only the Samsung phones that provide HD Plus display in this price range while other smartphones offer Full HD Display. But on the other hand, Samsung uses Super AMOLED display in all its smartphones, which is one of the best in the smartphone. So you will have no issues watching movies or videos on the phone as the colours on the screen are sharp and bright.

Talking about the build quality, this phone is build of polycarbonate(plastic body) and the frame in between is of metal. The quality is decent and feels good to hold in hand. Samsung Galaxy A6 priced at 22000 offers metal build quality but the camera performance is much better in Galaxy J8 as discussed below, J8 also has a bigger display and is priced around 3000 less than the A6.

Galaxy J8 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 with 4 GB of RAM and scores around 57000 on the AnTuTu Benchmark. The processor is same as seen in the Redmi 5 and the Antutu score is much lower when compared to the powerful Redmi Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.  But with Samsung optimizations, the phone works fine for day to day usage with no lags observed, though playing very high-end games will not be feasible and is not suggested. Using multiple applications at a time are smooth but not top notch. 4GB of RAM has a good role to play here for the multitasking so normal day to day browsing, using the camera, YouTube and low to mid-end games will go on smoothly.

Samsung has put a special focus on camera in all the latest phone launch, and this Galaxy J8 follows the same trend. It gets a dual rear camera of 16 MP(f/1.9) and 5MP(f/1.7) with a single LED flash placed vertically in the middle on the back. The front camera has a 16MP sensor with a LED flash. Both the front and rear camera click brilliant images with perfect colour contrast and saturation. The bokeh effect from the rear camera just looks amazing and overall the camera is one of the best in this price range and surely going to give a tough competition. The low light shots are also perfect with very little or no noise.

With the rear camera, Samsung J8 has introduced three new features to allow click and create the different type of images and they are Portrait Dolly, Background Blur Shape and Portrait Backdrop. In the Background Blur Shape,  it allows the user to add a soft touch to the blur and applies different shapes like heart, butterflies, stars etc. In the Portrait Dolly feature, which creates a GIF of the image where the main person or object zooms out of the background adding a cinematic feel. In the last Portrait Backdrop feature, which allows you to change the focus of the image after clicking it (LIVE FOCUS), and blurs the rest of the image and also adds some cool funky effects in the background.

This smartphone also a new feature of "Chat Over Video" which allows you to chat while watching the video on the phone. The chatting background box is transparent and a pop up comes on one corner that allows you to chat simultaneously while watching the video in the background.

It comes with an internal storage of 64 GB and can be expanded up to 256 GB using a dedicated MicroSD card slot and can be used as a proper dual sim smartphone. Galaxy J8 supports a fingerprint unlocking and the sensor is placed just below the rear camera setup. It also supports face unlocking and both methods are accurate and work smoothly. Samsung Galaxy J8 runs on Android Oreo 8.0 and has very little bloatware. The skin is smooth and easy to use.

Galaxy J8 is powered by a battery rated at 3500 mAh and easily works throughout the day, there is no fast charging available with this smartphone, which only a few smartphones support in this price range. The handset comes with a Samsung branded earphone is the box which no company offers these days and there is also a one-time screen replacement free of cost if you buy this phone before 31st July 2018.  There is no IP rating on this phone so keep it protected from dust and water.
