Chinese Smartphone company BBK Electronics has been the dominating the smartphone market by introducing us with brands like Oppo, Vivo, Realme and even OnePlus. Vivo has launched the Vivo V15 Pro smartphone into the Indian market which is the successor of Vivo V11 Pro which was launched around 6 months ago at a price of around 25000. While being the 1st ever smartphone to be powered by the all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, Vivo also introduces a pop-up selfie camera like the one on the Vivo NEX but at a much lower price point at around Rs. 28,990.
Beginning the Review with the main highlight of the V15 Pro, that is the camera on the V15 pro which has a triple camera setup at the back which includes a primary 48-Megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GM1 sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a Secondary 8-Megapixel Super Wide-Angle sensor along with f/2.4 and a 5-Megapixel Depth camera that too f/2.4 aperture. Now Vivo has claimed that to improve photosensitivity and picture quality, the V15 Pro uses professional “four-in-one pixel” technology that combines four adjacent pixels into a single 1.6μm large pixel, which delivers high-quality 12MP photos while ensuring that the user’s night shots are clearer than ever.
And speaking of the front, well it is a one of a kind pop-up 32-megapixel Selfie Camera with f/2.0 aperture that is a class to look at in its price segment. The cameras are also equipped with features like AI Face Beauty, AI Scene Recognition, AI Portrait Framing, AI Super Night Mode, AI Selfie Lighting and AI Body Beauty. The camera performance of both and front cameras are really good and they are capable of taking beautiful pictures with good saturation, contrast, and dynamic range. The wide-angle camera pictures don't look that good and you might want to use the 48MP sensor only.
In terms of display, the Vivo V15 Pro comes with a 6.39” Ultra FullView Display which does not have a notch and produces Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels along with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. In simple terms, this is a real bezel-less-display phone with no notch and thin bezels all around. The Super AMOLED screen is also embedded with a 5th Gen in-display fingerprint reader, that is pretty fast and does the job perfectly.
Now when we talk about performance, the V15Pro is the first smartphone with Qualcomm’s latest mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 675 which is and Octa-core AIE processor that holds two Kryo 460 Gold cores running at 2.0 GHz and six Kryo 460 Silver cores clocked at 1.7 GHz., which clearly outperforms the Snapdragon 660 and in terms of Raw performance in single-core benchmark matches up to the Snapdragon 845. Although the new and improved Adreno 612 barely makes any impact when compared to its predecessor the Adreno 512 in the Snapdragon 660. While operating with FunTouch OS 5.0 that runs on Android 9 Pie OS. The V15 Pro offers Game Mode 5.0 for optimizing the Adreno 612’s performance during gaming.
The Phone comes with a 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 256 GB with a micro SD card. Speaking of BenchMark scores, in terms of the multi-core score at GeekBench it scores 6527 and as for Single-core score, it is at about 2386 which is very impressive considering the Snapdragon 675. AnTuTu Benchmark score of the V15 Pro is 180774 and can be considered to be pretty fast at the mid-range processor segment.
Taking on the exterior of the device, it comes with a polycarbonate back panel, which does looks premium in the eyes because of the subtle stripes pattern on the back but kind of feels plastic which held on to the hands, for which the Company provides an additional in-box back cover that has a transparent glass finish at the back along with rubber finish at the side for perfect grip of the phone. While weighing around 185 grams, the phone measures 157.2 x 74.7 x8.2 mm. What’s also to take on notice is the 2.5 D glass on the notch less display which makes the smartphone to achieve an impressive 91.64% screen-to-body ratio. However, there isn’t any protection on the display as the company so users must take care of that beautiful screen on their hands.
Coming to the rest of the features, Vivo offers its exclusive Dual-Engine Fast Charging, which claims to charge up to 24% in just 15 minutes. However, the phone does not offer any USB Type C leading it only support the normal Micro USB 2.0 for its 3700 MAh battery. The phone takes less than 2 hours to completely charge and will provide a backup of 1 to 1.5 days with normal usage.
Apart from this, the handset is equipped with the general connectivity features such as Dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. While it is said that V15 Pro models which NFC support will be available in some regions like Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Russia.
Overall, Vivo V15 Pro is an interesting smartphone with a nice design, funky features like pop-up camera, good battery, powerful processor and great overall performance. The price of 29000 is a bit more than expected because if you can spend a bit more you can get flagships like LG G7 and OnePlus 6T.
