Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Brief Review and Pros Cons:

All of the Xiaomi's smartphones, Redmi 4, Redmi 4A, Redmi Note 4 and Mi A1 were bestsellers last year. Redmi Note 4 became the best selling phone in India. Today, on 14th Feb, Xiaomi has launched Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in India. Check out Redmi Note 5 Pro here.

Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 5 are very similar devices. The only change is the display which has now changed 5.5 inches 16:9 display to 5.99 inch 18:9 display. Xiaomi is finally jumping on to the 18:9 bezel-less display trend. The resolution of the display is Full HD Plus. The bezel-less display looks beautiful and gives a premium feel to the device. The colors are vibrant and brightness is decent.

Even when the display size has increased, the size of the device is almost same as other 5.5 inch devices as Xiaomi has reduced the bezels. So if you are using a 5.5-inch device, you won't notice much change in device size.

Smaller bezels mean there are no dedicated navigation buttons on the front of Redmi Note 5. Redmi has moved from dedicated buttons to on-screen buttons to reduce the bezel size. The phone follows metal unibody design approach and the build of the device is solid. The design is very similar to Redmi Note 4 so no surprises there.

The back of Redmi Note 5 is curved a bit which makes it easy to hold. There is a 2.5D glass on the display as well but we don't know whether it gorilla glass or not. Overall, the device feels nice in hand. It is a bit slippery so getting a case would be a good idea.

Now let's talk about the camera. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has a single 12MP sensor on the back(again same as Redmi Note 4) of the phone with 1.25-micron pixels, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. The back camera performance is decent in daylight outdoor conditions. The pictures look good but are not that detailed.

The camera performance in low light conditions is average and same as Redmi Note 4.

On the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera with a LED flash. The front camera can take decent selfies and the front flash helps under low light conditions.

For security, there is a fingerprint sensor on the back of Redmi Note 5. The fingerprint sensor placement is same as that on Redmi Note 4. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate and you won't face any issues with it. The Redmi Note 5 is not water or dust proof so there is no IP rating.

Inside the Redmi Note 5, we have the same Snapdragon 625 chipset which we saw on Note 4. It comes in 2 variants, first one with 4/4GB of RAM and second with 32/64GB of storage. The Snapdragon 625 has been Xiaomi's favorite and they have used it in various devices like Note 4, Mi Max 2 etc.

On benchmark side, you will see Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 scoring around 65000 on Antutu Benchmark which is a decent score. Overall, the Redmi Note 5 performs performance is good. It handles multitasking as well. Plus, you won't face any issues with heavy games.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is running on latest MIUI 9 which is based on Android 7.1.2. We are sure that Xiaomi will be updating the Redmi Note 5 to Android Oreo.

The battery inside the Redmi Note is of 4000mAh capacity. This is same as what we saw on Redmi Note 4. Large battery and efficient processor means you can get 2 days of battery backup.

There is no fast charging on Redmi Note 5 so charging time will be around 2 hours 30 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes for 0 to 100%.

Overall, Redmi Note 5 is a good value for money smartphone which looks decent and performs well.
