Redmi Y1 Lite is the lastest smartphone in entry-level segment of smartphones from Xiaomi, it is priced at just Rs. 6999 which is very attractive pricing. Redmi Y1 Lite comes with a 5.5-inch screen with 720p resolution, the display is an IPS display protected by 2.5D curved glass and Gorilla glass protection. The body, though looks like metallic, is made of plastic and not metal as seen in Redmi 4, Redmi Note 4, it still looks good. The phone feels comfortable while holding and we have no complaints.
Redmi Y1 Lite is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There is a dedicated MicroSD card which can be used to increase the storage by up to 256GB. Cheers to Xiaomi for finally getting rid of terrible hybrid sim slot.
Redmi Y1 Lite runs on latest MIUI 9 over the Android 7.1.2(Nougat). Which is the latest MIUI version out there. We think Xiaomi will upgrade the Y1 Lite to Oreo as well. On benchmark side, you will see that Redmi Y1 Lite scores around 36000 in Antutu benchmark.
The camera performance of Redmi Y1 Lite is decent, it has a rear camera of 13MP with LED flash which is pretty decent in this price range. In our initial impressions, the outdoor shots looked good with plenty of details and sharpness. The picture quality in low light conditions was average though. The front camera is a 5MP shooter and takes decent selfie shots. Overall, the camera performance of Redmi Y1 is good considering the price at which it is launched.
Redmi Y1 Lite can handle light games with ease. If you play heavy games then go for other devices because Snapdragon 425 with 2GB RAM is not a powerful setup. There is no fingerprint sensor on this device. As with other Xiaomi phones, Redmi Y1 Lite has an IR blaster at the top and can run dual apps.
Inside the Redmi Y1 Lite, there is a 3080mAh battery which will last for 1-2 days depending on your usage.
Overall, Redmi Y1 Lite is decent in all areas. The price is just 6999 so do not expect a lot from this device. If your usage is low like calling, web surfing, Whatsapp etc. then you can go for it. If you are a heavy user you should go for Redmi Note 4. Redmi Y1 is also a good option which will cost you 2000 more. See the details of Redmi Y1.
