Brief Review:

Realme was a sub-brand of the very famous Shenzhen-based Chinese brand OPPO until 2018 when it separated to become an independent company. Realme focusses on mainly budget segment phones priced between 7k to 15K price segment. With offerings from Xiaomi and Samsung at this price point will the Realme 3 be able to keep up with the competition? Or will it be just another phone brand trying to survive in the ocean of budget smartphones?

Read on to find out as we list what’s good, average and bad in this brief review of the Realme 3.

Now when you first unbox the case of the Realme 3 you are pleasantly greeted with the phone followed by a 10W fast charger, a micro USB cable, and a clear film TPU case. Its good to see that Realme is providing a case right out of the box until you purchase a new one. Well, when you hear the word micro USB you might be thinking that its outdated right? But the fact is that this is a sub 11K phone and we can’t really complain much in this price range. An exception comes from Redmi Note 7 which impressively offers fast charging for a sub 10k smartphone.

Coming to the design first, the Realme 3 has a plastic body but a new gradient finish design giving it a much expensive look than it actually is. The fingerprint scanner sits behind the phone, although mention needs to be made of its slightly higher placement than the usual. Other design features include the vertical dual camera and a single LED flash set up at the leftmost corner. The primary camera comes with this yellow paint job around the rim of the camera that Realme calls the ‘Real Ring’.

Coming to the front gate, we have a large 1520 X 720 pixels 6.22-inch HD+ teardrop notch display giving it an 88.3 percent screen to body ratio. However, the phone comes with a considerable chin at the bottom. The display is 720p instead of 1080p and it is a bummer considering again it's previous offering the Realme U1 have 1080p displays. The quality of the display is however good for a 720p one. Again, what disappointing is the chin on the Realme 3 is actually larger than the company’s previous offering which is the Realme U1. The display is protected by gorilla glass 3 and has a max brightness of 450nits which is decent for this price point, though other manufacturers have moved to Gorilla Glass 5 and 6.

Coming to the camera front the Realme 3 houses a 13MP f1.8 primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. It is to be noted that this is the same setup seen in the previous Realme U1 which is not absolutely great in the price range but doesn’t disappoint the users either. The selfie camera is a 13MP f2.0 sensor which also comes equipped with face unlock. This, however, is again a downgrade from the Realme U1's 25MP selfie shooter. The camera captures decent images with good contrast and also supports AI capabilities to improve the images. Overall considering the phone priced at under 9000, the phone offers decent features and quality.  One fact about the camera is the rear camera is that the video recording capability is locked down to only 1080p despite the processor Helio P70 has 4K recording capability.

Staying on the processor front as mentioned earlier the Helio P70 from MediaTek is the animal running the show on this phone. The P70 is based on the 12nm manufacturing process and is an extremely capable processor as its almost on par with the Snapdragon 660 which is actually a good thing considering the phones lower price point. Even while gaming the Mali-G72 holds up to itself and games like PUBG mobile will surely play just fine on medium settings. Realme 3 AnTuTu score comes out at 1,37,901 which again confirms a strong performance.

The Realme 3 unlike some of its competition offers the best of both the world when it comes to SIM and Memory card slot. It provides both of them 2 SIM card slot and a separate Memory card slot which is expandable to a whopping 256GB. Other features include headphone jack at the bottom. Yes, we see the headphone jack as a feature as phone prices 5 times its own are removing it. Flanked beside the headphone jack are not 1 bit 2 microphone the micro USB cable and the speaker grill.

When compared to other phones in this price range that usually come with a Snapdragon 636, the P70 just crushes the competition. However, when compared with the Snapdragon 660 it falls slightly behind. So, performance wise the Realme 3 surely delivers.

Finally coming to the battery backup. The battery on the Realme 3 is a massive 4230 mAh. This is a major upgrade compared to the companies last offering which is the Realme U1. Combined with the 12nm P70 and a lower resolution 720p display, the phone delivers around 1.5 days of backup.

For the software, the Realme 3 comes with the latest Color OS 6.0 based on Android 9 Pie which comes with app drawer and other useful features. There are some bloatware apps that come installed on this phone. Also, there is no IP rating so you have to protect your phone from water and dust unlike Note 7 which offers splash-proof protection.

Now, we have been talking about the price point of the Realme 3 for a long time and here are the variants that are gonna be made available to the end users. The Rs  8999 variant will get you 3GB RAM and the 32GB of internal storage. While the Rs 10999 variant will get you 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

So, to sum everything up. The Realme 3, doesn’t really improve from its predecessor but makes some noteworthy change on the battery and processor department. It is true that the display is not all that great and the camera is also slightly above average but the 4230 mAh battery and the Helio P70 makes up for the other compromises.

According to us the best value for money is the base variant at rupees 8999 because at this price a P70 and a 4230 mAh battery is actually a great deal. So if the camera and display is not the topmost priority and performance and battery life is all that you want to go for this phone. At this price point, the phone faces stiff competition from Redmi Note 7 and Asus Zenfone Max M2

2. Asus Zenfone Max M2

Asus Zenfone Max M2 is one of the top 4GB RAM mobiles under 10000

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 2048 GB
  • 6.25 inch HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: Dual 13MP + 2MP
  • Front Camera: 8MP
  • 4000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Blue Colors

Best Price ₹8999

Brief Review:

Asus Zenfone Max M2 is an economical variant of the Max M2 Pro which comes with a less powerful processor and an HD+ Plus display compared to Full HD+ on the M2 Pro with other things remaining more or less the same.

This Max M2 comes with a notch type 6.26 HD+ display which has good brightness and sharpness level. The notch size on this phone is slightly bigger than compared to the M2 Pro. Also, there is no Gorilla glass on this phone which is expected in the price point so you need to be extra cautious that you do not drop it. On the build quality side, the phone looks solid and the back of the phone is metallic which feels sturdy in hand.

On the processor side, this Max M2 comes with a relatively new Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 which was seen on the only phone, Honor 8C. The Antutu benchmark scores come around 1,05,000 which is equivalent to the Samsung M20 phone and is a good score for sub 10k phone. The performance gets support from 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory. It supports a dedicated SD card slot to expand the memory up to 2 TB which is a very much needed feature as the phone is now increasingly used for clicking/storing photos videos and other data. There is also a 3 GB 32 GB variant available for a price on under 10k.

In our camera review, we found this phone clicks good pictures which given the price point are best. In terms of specifications, the sensors are similar to the Pro version. On the rear camera, there is a 13MP primary sensor and a 2 MP dedicated depth sensor and an 8 MP sensor for front camera selfies. The photos capture a lot of details with very apt quality, sharpness and color reproduction. However, the low light camera clicks and video struggled with noise and in capturing all the details. The camera app also takes a bit of time while focussing on the objects.

The portrait shots also produce attractive images with proper edge detection/bokeh effect most of the time unless there is a complex object in the background. The video recording is available in 4K (Ultra HD) resolution but stabilization is not available in 4K. You can enable stabilization for video recording under the 1080p resolution.

Coming to the gaming performance, the new Snapdragon 632 fares well is most of the scenario. The low to medium end games work perfectly fine without any issues however the high-end games do suffer some lag because of the processor performance, especially in games like PUBG which require you to focus on enemies takes some time delay compared to phones with the high-end processor.  Overall, the gaming performance is good in day to day life with very minor heating observed during our review. The full-screen games mask the notch completely with no option to enable it for now. Asus might change this with a software update in the future.

This Max M2 like the Max M2 Pro and Max M1 Pro comes with stock android with minimum bloatware apps like Facebook, Instagram etc which you might anyways need. The phone has been launched with Android Oreo and is supposed to get the Android Pie update. The phone supports dual VoLTE so if your network provider has VoLTE in your area, then you can use it on both the sim.  There are fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism available and both are fast and accurate and much improved from the previous Asus phones. There is no IP rating on this phone so keep it safe from water and dust and they can damage the phone.

For the battery backup, Asus has provided a 4000 mAh battery which gives a backup of around 1 complete day with heavy usage and around 1.5 days for medium to low usage. There is a 10W charger bundled in the box which takes around 120 minutes for complete charging and the phone does not support fast charging. Despite a big battery, the phone only weighs 160gm and feels light in hand. In terms of accessories, there is a TPU case bundled in the box but no earphones.

If you are looking for a complete phone and have a budget of around 10000, then you can look to choose this phone as it offers a solid quality, decent processor and a good battery backup. You can also read about the Samsung M10 if you do not need a powerful processor but a phone with good looks. Honor 8C also offer similar specification and comes in a similar price range.

Brief Review:

Realme has made a strong market in the under 10k smartphone and is looking to capture the attention of users having a budget of 10k to 20k. With Realme 2 Pro, Realme certainly looks to heat up the competition with an awesome list of specs and a practical smartphone. Here we review the Realme 2 Pro which comes in 3 variants. Let us discuss the specifications and features this Realme 2 Pro offers which will be a Flipkart exclusive smartphone.

Realme 2 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch display having the Full HD Plus resolution with the Full-screen display. The display is perfectly bright and the brightness is well maintained in the outdoor conditions. Watching videos or movies on this smartphone is appealing and provides a good experience. On the front, we have a waterdrop or also known as the teardrop notch which makes the phone look amazing, which results in an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The earpiece is available just above the notch.

Realme has worked well on the designing on the smartphones and this one is no different, however, they have not replicated the diamond cut design which was features on Realme 1 and the Realme 2. So the Realme 2 pro comes with a polycarbonate body and a perfect glass type shiny finish which will be available in three colors Black Sea, Blue Ocean, and Ice Lake. The box also bundles a TPU(Transparent) case for the smartphone protection.

Coming to the performance of this smartphone which would surely invite a jaw drop reaction, the Realme 2 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset and the base variant has a 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage. The smartphone scores around 1,33,000 on the Antutu Benchmark which clearly explains how powerful this smartphone is. In our usage of this phone as a primary phone, we played games, watched YouTube videos, listened to music and all other day to day usage like calling, messaging etc and we did not face any problem at all.

We also played heavy games like PUBG for instance and the phone was able to multitask and handle heavy stuff easily. The Realme 2 Pro comes with an inbuilt AI gaming accelerator which helps boosts the performance. Here you also get Dual sim slot and a dedicated SD card slot to expand the storage by 256 GB.

Finally on the camera side, Realme 2 Pro has left everyone stunned with a powerful dual camera set up at the back that does not disappoint you at all. On the specification side, the dual rear camera comes with a 16 MP f/1.7 aperture (Sony IMX 398) which is the primary sensor and a 2MP sensor which is the depth sensor and a LED flash. The camera clicks perfect images in both and low light conditions and we were really stunned by the beauty it delivers. The front camera is a 16MP sensor which comes with the AI beautify mode and recognizes the personal characteristics to give you the best photo. The rear camera takes excellent pictures and the front camera is not great as of now. We hope Realme fixes it with a software update.

Both the front and the rear camera on Realme 2 Pro can click portrait shot and the edge detection is perfect. The camera app comes with 5 Light mode namely the Film Light, Mono-Tone Light, Natural Light, Rim Light, Bi-Colour Light which captures and transforms the photos. The camera is also powered by AI that can recognize various scenes and modify the images to look based on contrast, colors and best exposures.

The Realme 2 Pro runs on Color OS 5.2 which is a custom skin based on the Android 8.1 and is the same as used on the Oppo branded smartphones. Here the experience is not the best as the UI is not very clean and there are some bloatware apps which is a compromise in this beautiful and perfect smartphone.

On the battery side, we have a 3500 mAh battery to power the smartphone, in our usage, the battery lasts justs above a day with medium type usage. The phone has a micro USB and does not bundle a fast charger. Also, there is no IP rating on this phone, so protect it from dust and water. For the unlocking of this smartphone, you get both fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism and both are accurate and very very fast which unlock the smartphone in the blink of an eye.

The Realme 2 Pro has 3 variants which are priced as mentioned below.

Variant (RAM - Internal Storage) Pricing (in Rs)
4GB - 64 GB 13,999
6GB - 64 GB 15,999
8GB - 128GB 17,999

To us, the pricing on this Realme 2 Pro looks super exciting, especially the limelight is 8 GB version smartphone has been launched under 20000 for the first time. Realme 2 Pro comes with a tagline of Max Power Max Style and it surely very well delivers on the same. Overall, with its brilliant specifications, features, the Realme 2 Pro is a midrange killer and certainly should be your top choice for a smartphone under 15000 to 20000.

Brief Review:

Oppo Realme 2 has been launched as the successor in just 4 months after the success of Oppo Realme 1. Realme 1 lacked a dual camera, a fingerprint sensor but at the pricing was a great phone. Oppo has launched Realme 2 at a similar pricing but with better specifications and follows the current trend and also covers up the features that were missing in the Oppo Realme 1.  It gets a notch display, beautiful design, long battery, dual camera and finally a fingerprint sensor all available under 10000. Let us look at the features, specifications and reviews of this great budget smartphone Oppo Realme 2.

Oppo Realme 2 comes with a 6.2 inch HD Plus screen having a resolution of 1520 X 720 pixels and has proper brightness and good viewing angles. The display has a notch design with an aspect ratio of 19:9. In terms of design, it comes with the OPPO famous diamond cut pattern that adds true beauty to the smartphone and it is easily the best-looking smartphone under 10000.

Realme 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor supported by 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of memory. It scores around 77000 on the AnTuTu Benchmark and works smoothly in all the day to day usage so you can use depending on your usage. You can also play low to medium level games but high-end games face some lag issues. There is a 4GB 64 GB variant also available for this smartphone.

On the camera side, Realme has not disappointed this time as it comes with a Dual rear camera with 13MP which is the primary sensor and 2MP which is the depth sensor for the portrait effects. Here you get an HDR mode, portrait mode for blurring the background and also the beauty mode. The front camera is an 8 MP sensor which comes with the HDR mode and also supports depth effect using the software. The front camera also has AI beauty support to improve the selfie experience and offers you the best selfie. The shutter speed of the camera is quick and we could click pictures without any delay. The video recording support on the Realme 2 has a maximum 1080 pixel resolution and the audio quality is also recorded clear on the video.

Oppo Realme 2 runs on ColorOS 5.1 which is a custom skin based on Android Oreo 8.1 and comes with some third party apps preinstalled. Realme 2 has also introduced a fingerprint sensor which was missing on the Realme 1 smartphone. The fingerprint sensor is very quick and accurate. The smartphone also supports face unlocking supported by the front camera which is located in the notch.

It has a proper dual sim support and a dedicated SD card slot that can expand the storage up to 256GB. It has a massive battery capacity of 4230 mAh and the phone still does not weigh heavy and can be easily held in hand. The battery gives a backup of around 1.5 to 2 days which is good for people who look for a long battery smartphone. It has a micro USB port available for charging and does not support fast charging and you get a 10W charger inside the box. There is not an IP rating on this phone and hence keep it protected from water and dust.

Overall, in this Oppo Realme 2, you get a stylish looking smartphone with a notch design, a good processor and camera for the price range, a massive battery and support for finger and face unlocking. Certainly, as per our review of Oppo Realme 2, it is the best phone under 10000.

Brief Review:

Honor has been very aggressive in the under 20000 smartphone range. They have launched Honor 9 Lite, Honor 7X, Honor 9i which have received great response from the users. Honor is now launching Honor 9N, which is a rebranded Honor 9i(2018) launched in China. It comes with a notch display and beautiful design and is a good smartphone under 15000. Let us look at the reviews, specifications and features of this beautiful phone.

Honor 9N comes with a 5.84-inch notch display with a Full HD Plus resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The display is a full view display having an aspect ratio of 19:9. In terms of design, it has a glass design and looks similar to the one seen Honor 9 Lite. The front has a notch and the back has a horizontal dual camera setup with a LED flash at the top and a fingerprint sensor. Honor has launched Honor 9N with a tagline of #ExtraOrdinaryBeauty and the design and looks truly upholds the statement. It is lightweight and easy to hold and operate with one hand.

On the performance side, Honor has once again used the in-house Kirin 659 processor which we have seen in all the midrange phones starting from Honor 9 Lite, Honor 9i (2017) and the Honor 7X. This smartphone has 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage. We have seen the similar configuration in all the Honor phones in this price range and though Kirin 659 is not a powerhouse as Snapdragon 636 seen in Redmi Note 5 Pro but does handle multitasking with ease and one can easily go through all the daily tasks without any difficulty. But that Kirin 659 at the pricing of under 15000 does not raise the bar in the performance side when compared to the likes to Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max or the Mi A2 which has just launched. Honor 9N scores around 75000 on the Antutu Benchmark.

Coming to the camera, Honor 9N supports a dual rear camera setup with 13MP as the primary sensor and 2MP sensor as the secondary sensor with Dual tone LED flash and autofocus. The camera works fine with clear and crisp shots and good colour reproduction. The camera also supports face detection, portrait (bokeh) mode and HDR mode. The front camera is a 16MP shooter which is located inside the front notch and as expected clicks beautiful pictures and also supports portrait shots via software processing.

Honor 9N runs on EMUI 8.1 which is a custom skin based on the Android 8.1 Oreo and works smooth. They are some bloatware but Honor has well refined the EMUI over the years. There is a hybrid micro SD card slot to expand the memory up to 256 GB. Honor 9N supports both fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism and both of the methods work accurately and swiftly. Honor 9N does not carry any IP rating so keep it safe from the dust and water.  It has a battery rated at 3000 mAh which can keep the phone powered up for a day. You would need to charge it after a full day usage.

Honor 9N though has been launched as the rebranded version Honor 9i (2018) but in actual it is a more beautiful version of all the Honor midrange phones. It has a stunning looking notch and is Honor's first phone under 15000 with a notch. The dazzling looks are very attractive and if you are looking to buy a phone under 15000 with a notch display, Honor 9N has to be your top choice. If you are not much concerned with the high-end gaming or heavy usage, this phone would work through easily.

The 3GB 32GB variant is priced at Rs. 11999 and the 4GB 64GB variant is priced at Rs. 13999. Honor has added a 4GB 128GB variant as well which will cost you 17999. We think the middle variant 4GB 64B provides the best value for money.

Brief Review:

Xiaomi has come up with another phone in the under 10000-15000 segment. The Redmi Y1 which was launched last year as a selfie smartphone has received some significant upgrades in terms of internal hardware, cameras, and display. Let's take a look at the brief review of Redmi Y2.

Redmi Y2 comes with a 5.99-inch display of 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution. The display is bright and vivid with good color reproduction and viewing angles. The resolution is not Full HD so that's a bit disappointing but it is not a deal breaker. The bezel-less on the top and bottom have reduced so the overall size of the phone is similar to other 5.5 inches phones. The build quality of Redmi Y1 wasn't that great but Xiaomi has done a good job with Redmi Y2. The device feels good in the hand. The back is metal so it is a bit slippery but you do get a free transparent case in the box. It comes in 3 colors: Grey, Gold and Rose Gold. Our favorite color is Rose gold.

Inside the Redmi Y2, we have the same Snapdragon 625 chipset which we have seen on Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 5. Snapdragon 625 is a decent performer and very power efficient chipset so we don't have any complaints. The phone is available in 2 variants: 3GB RAM-32GB Storage and 4GB RAM-64GB Storage. If you are a heavy user and use a lot of apps and games then go for the 4GB-64GB variant. If your use only camera, social media apps etc then 3GB variant should be fine. The overall performance of the device is good and you won't face any lag during the day to day usage. Redmi Y2 scores around 70000 on Antutu benchmarks which is similar to Antutu score of other Snapdragon 625 devices like Redmi Note 5 and Mi A1.

Let's talk about camera now. Redmi Y2 is a camera-centric smartphone and have received a good upgrade in the camera department. There is a 12MP+5MP dual camera on the back. The camera is placed vertically just like it was on the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The 12MP camera is a color sensor and 5MP camera is a depth sensor which helps to take portrait mode shots with depth effect. The rear camera performance is good in both daylight and low light conditions. The pixel size is 1.25um which helps to improve the low light performance. Edge detection in portrait mode is good as well.

The selfie camera on the Redmi Y2 is a 16MP sensor with a front flash. The front flash is very useful in low light conditions. The front camera also has portrait mode and can take pictures with depth effect. In our initial tests, the front camera performance was good. Edge detection wasn't that great and you might see your hair getting blurred in some of the shots. The front camera has features like AI beauty which removes blemishes and makes you look beautiful. The front camera is also used for face unlock which is not that quick but still, performance is decent. If you don't like face unlock then there is a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. It is safe to say that Redmi Y2 is the best budget camera smartphone available in India under Rs. 10000.

Redmi Y2 comes with MIUI 9.5 out of the box which is a custom skin based on Android 8.1. We don't really like MIUI because it comes with a lot of bloatware and the UI isn't great either but you can change that with a launcher. If you like to use dual apps, second space etc then MIUI is great for you.

The battery inside the Redmi Y2 is 3080 mAh and would last for a day on single charge. It would have been great if Xiaomi has gone with a 4000 mAh battery like on Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. The charger inside the box is 5V, 2 Amps charger which will charge the device in around 2 hours.

It is a dual sim device and Xiaomi has added a dedicated MicroSD slot this time which is great. If 32GB or 64GB is not enough for you, you can slide in a MicroSD card to increase the storage by up to 128GB. Redmi Y2 is not waterproof or dustproof and doesn't have any IP rating so keep it away from water and mud.

The Redmi Y2 has been priced at 9999 for the 3GB-32GB variant and 12999 for 4GB-64GB variant. It is an Amazon India exclusive device. We think pricing is decent and you are getting good value for money. The price of the lower variant is same as Redmi Note 5. Redmi Y2 has better cameras and Redmi Note 5 has better battery and display. So go for Y2 is you are going to use the camera a lot. If you don't use the camera much then Note 5 or Realme 1 is a better option.

Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro is one of the top 4GB RAM mobiles under 10000

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 128 GB
  • 5.7 inch HD Display 720p
  • Back Camera: 16MP
  • Front Camera: 20MP+8MP Dual
  • 3000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black Colors

Best Price ₹6999

Brief Review:

Micromax, the famous Indian smartphone brand launched Micromax Canvas Infinity in August 2017 and now they have come up with Canvas Infinity Pro.  Canvas Infinity Pro looks similar to Canvas Infinity and comes with an all-metal design, built of aluminum, going full edge to edge (18:9 full view) by minimising side bezels. The build looks sturdy with a tinge of premium feel attached to it. On the front, you have a giant 5.7-inch IPS LCD display, with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels, 18:9 ratio accounting to a poor pixel density of ~279 PPI. On a screen that large, the low pixel density clearly shows and you’ll not be very pleased with the display. Micromax is calling it a Pro variant so we were expecting a Full HD+ display.

The Micromax Canvas Infinity was running on Snapdragon 425 with 3GB of RAM, the latest Infinity Pro runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430, backed by a 4GB of RAM. Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro comes with onboard storage of 64GB which is expandable to 128GB via MicroSD. The MicroSD slot is dedicated so you won't have to compromise with dual sim functionality of the device. The hardware is upgraded but still, it is an entry-level hardware with average performance. We are disappointed with the choice of processor for a phone which costs 14k. Snapdragon 625 should have been there instead of Snapdragon 430. Even the Xiaomi Redmi 4 has Snapdragon 435 and the cheapest variant of Redmi 4 costs 7k.

Don’t expect long gaming sessions or high-quality video playing as you may find the device struggling there. The Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro does get warm over 4G use and gaming, but thankfully not very hot. By gaming, we mean light casual gaming, as Adreno 505 can’t pull off a lot of heavyweight titles. In the benchmarks, the Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro scores around 44551 on AnTuTu benchmark. On GeekBench, the Canvas Infinity Pro scores around 2200 on the multicore test and 900 on the single core.

As far as cameras are concerned, the rear sensor on the Micromax Canvas Infinity is a 16MP sensor (f/2.0) which doesn’t appeal quite strongly. On the front, we have a dual 20MP+8MP setup.  The front camera is the USP of this device and it is pretty good. The portrait mode selfies from front camera come out sharp with accurate colors. It beautifies the face which is pretty standard these days. The flash which doubles down as torch comes to rescue in low lighting conditions. The front camera is the only the thing we like in the Canvas Infinity Pro.

The Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with a cheerful 8.0 Oreo update planned soon. As for the experience, don’t get your hopes high because the device runs atop Micromax’s custom skin which is nowhere close to stock and is not very impressive. It has got very similar to other Chinese OEMs, which certainly isn’t helping. The smartphone comes with a ton of useless apps which can’t be deleted so cheers to that.

On the battery department, the Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro fails to impress because of the  3000 mAH battery for a smartphone of this size. We wonder, what Micromax has packed inside this phone if not battery. The battery life is not optimum, expect it to be put to charging at least once in the working day, If you use your phone very much, else it should comfortably last a day on average use.  Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro does not have any IP ratings which means it is not waterproof or dustproof. so keep it fairly distant from liquids and dust.

Canvas Infinity offers decent worth given its price, It's not the most competent smartphone in the segment but surely is worth considering, If you can look behind its cons. It has got the most modern look with minimal bezels and is exquisite on the outside. We would have been very pleased it the same could be said about insides of the Canvas Infinity.

Overall, Micromax Canvas Infinity is an decent smartphone with a good front selfie camera. If selfie is your priority then you should consider this device and if you are going to play games and use a lot of apps then you should skip it. We think Honor 9i is a much better option because of it's dual camera on front and back and a nice Full HD Display. Check out the review of Honor 9i.

Brief Review:

Honor 9i is the latest smartphone in India from Huawei/Honor. This device has already been launched in other countries with following names: Huawei Maimang 6, Huawei Nova 2i, Huawei Mate 10 Lite. So Honor 9i is the 4th name of this device. We have no idea what Honor is trying to do here.

At first look Honor 9i looks like a premium device. The build of the phone is solid and it feels good in the hand. We have a 5.9-inch full view display with Full HD+ resolution. Even with large 5.9-inch display the size of the device is similar to other 5.5 inch devices because of the small bezels.

The aspect ratio of the display is 18:9 which we have seen earlier in flagships like LG G6, LG V30 and midrange phones like LG Q6 and Vivo V7+. The display is sharp with good viewing angles and it looks beautiful overall. The display is covered with 2.5D glass.

The Honor 9i comes powered by 2.36 GHz Octa-Core Kirin 659 processor, which is a powerful processor capable of handling all the normal multitasking swiftly. The Kirin 659 scores around 63800 in Antutu benchmarks which is equivalent to the score of Snapdragon 625 which scores around 63100.

The multitasking Honor 9i assisted by 4GB of RAM. It comes with 64 GB of internal memory. Plus there is a MicroSD card slot which can be used to increase the storage by up to 256GB. The slot is hybrid so you can either use 2 sims cards or 1 sim card and a MicroSD card. We hate the concept of hybrid slot because it limits the functionality of the device.

The USP of the device is the camera setup. Honor 9i is a first-ever phone that supports both dual rear camera and dual front camera, The rear camera is a 16MP + 2MP dual camera while the front camera is a 13MP + 2MP dual camera. the dual camera setup allows additional effects to be added to the photos clicked. Both camera setups have an RGB camera sensor and a monochrome camera sensor. Details are captured from both cameras to make images sharper. Plus, they help to give a bokeh/depth effect to your pictures. In our initial tests, the camera performance of both front and back cameras looked impressive. Portrait shots had sharp edges of the object in focus with blurred background. With initial impressions, we can say that it looks like the best camera experience in this price segment. We will test it out under outdoor and indoor conditions and post a full review on our blog soon.

Honor 9i also supports the feature as seen in Honor 8 where the image background can be blurred even after clicking the image. This feature is really good as you can blur the background to your liking after taking the picture.

For security, the back of the phone supports an active fingerprint sensor just below the vertical rear camera setup while LED flash in integrated into the Antenna band. The fingerprint sensor is fast and responsive and you are not going to face any issues with it.

The Honor 9i runs EMUI 5.1 which is a skin based on Android 7.0 Nougat. EMUI has some useful customizations like drawing an S for a long screenshot to capture an entire web page, tap twice with one finger for a screenshot, and tap twice with two fingers for screen recording. These small features can be very useful.

The handset supports 3340mAH battery which should be sufficient for more than a day for normal usage.

Overall, Honor 9i looks like a very balanced device with nice dual cameras on both sides. If you like to take selfies then you should consider this device. Even if you do not click selfies, the premium build, beautiful display, lag-free performance makes it a great option in this price range.

Honor 9i in black colour looks great. It wasn't available before but it is available now. Buy Honor 9i Black from Flipkart.

Other options in this range include Mi A1 and Moto G5S Plus. We think Honor 9i is a better option because of better processor, better and larger display and dual front camera which is not there in other devices. You can take a look at the review of Mi A1 here and Moto G5S Plus here

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 128 GB

  • Back Camera: 16MP

Brief Review:

Asus has started the rollout of Zenfone 4 series with dual front camera phones for selfie lovers. Selfie craze has gone up exponentially in last few years and now we are seeing front cameras which are better than back cameras. Here we are taking a look at Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Camera. There is another phone with similar name but has a single camera on the front and comes with the similar processor but 3GB RAM and 32GB storage instead of 4GB 64GB in the dual version.

The USP of the Zenfone 4 Selfie is the dual front camera setup with flash. We have a 20MP sensor with an 8MP sensor which helps to give a wide-angle view and depth effect to the selfies. There is a portrait mode option in camera app using which you can blur the background. There is a flash on the front as well which helps in low light selfies. Overall the front camera setup performs well and takes some beautiful shots. We tried the portrait mode and pictures look good but the edges are not sharp. We think this is a software issue and Asus should be able to fix it with a software update. There are beautify options available in camera app using which you can adjust your skin tone. It is safe to say that Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie delivers the best front camera performance in this range.

There is a single 16MP camera on the back with a flash. The camera performance is fine. The images are sharp and detailed.

Regarding the looks, Asus has done a good job with Zenfone 4 Selfie. The phone is less than 7mm thick and feels very good in the hand. The disadvantage of the sleek phone is average battery capacity and here we have a 3000mAh battery. The battery should last a day on a single charge. Plus you have fast charging as well which can charge the phone in less than 2 hours.

The display on the front is not Full HD. Asus is using a 720p IPS HD display. The display works fine and has good viewing angles but we would have preferred a Full HD display in this price range.

The processor inside the Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual is Snapdragon 430 which we have seen in a lot of phones this year. The chip is very efficient and performs well but it is still an entry-level chipset and might struggle with heavy games and apps. We have 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage. Storage can be increased with a MicroSD card and the good news is that Asus is using a 3 slot sim tray in which you can use 2 sims and a MicroSD card at the same time. Hybrid sim slots are terrible and we are glad that Asus did not go for it.

Overall Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Camera is a phone for selfie lovers. If you do not like to take selfies then there is not much exciting in this device. Other options with better specs and similar price are Mi A1, Moto G5S Plus, Redmi Note 4, Lenovo P2.

10. Lenovo K8 Note 64GB

Lenovo K8 Note 64GB is one of the top 4GB RAM mobiles under 10000

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 128 GB
  • 5.5 inch Full HD Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 13MP + 5MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 13MP
  • 4000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Gold Colors

Best Price ₹7690

Brief Review:

Lenovo K8 Note is the successor to K6 Note which was sold offline only. Lenovo has upgraded the processor and the camera of the device. The phone is made of metal and has a good build quality. The edges are curved which make it easy to hold.

The display on the Lenovo K8 Note is Full HD 1080p panel with good color reproduction and viewing angles. It is covered with 2.5D glass on the front which gives it a nice look.

The USP of the Lenovo K8 Note is the dual camera on the back. There are 13MP and 5MP sensors on the back and information from both camera sensors help to give a bokeh or depth effect to the images. The camera performs well under daylight conditions but under low light the camera performance is average. The camera on the front is 13MP which again performs well in daylight but no so under low light conditions.

Inside the Lenovo K8 Note, we have an Helio X23 processor which is a 10 core chipset. The processor is more powerful than Snapdragon 625 and 626 but it is not efficient so battery backup will be average at best. Another issue with the processor is that it tends to heat up while playing heavy games.

The Lenovo K8 Note scores around 95000 on Antutu benchmarks thanks to the powerful Helio X23 Chipset. This is around 1.5x of the Antutu score of Snapdragon 625 which is around 65000.

On the storage side, we have 2 variants of Lenovo K8 Note. The first variant comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and the second variant comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The price difference is just Rs 1000 so we recommend the 64GB 4GB variant.

The Lenovo K8 Note also has a dedicated MicroSD slot which can be used to increase the storage by 128GB. Lenovo has done a good job by avoiding the hybrid sim slot which limits the functionality of the device.

Lenovo K8 Note also has Dolby Atmos support. You can change the settings in Dolby app to change the bass and treble. It works pretty well so if you like to listen to music on your phone, you should definitely tweak the settings according to your preferences.

Overall the Lenovo K8 Note is a balanced device with a couple of negatives like average camera performance under low light and heating issues. At this price point, we think it offers good value for money.
