OPPO F9 Brief Review and Pros Cons:

Oppo has launched the Oppo F9 and F9 Pro which are the successors of the last year's Oppo F7. The latest phones have some improvements, we won't call it a big upgrade. The F9 and F9 Pro are exact same phones with only one difference which is the RAM. F9 comes with 4GB RAM and F9 Pro comes with 6GB RAM.

The Oppo F9/F9 Pro comes with a very modern design. Oppo has ditched the rectangular notch which we have been seeing on almost every other smartphone. Oppo has come up with a new notch called as waterdrop notch. The notch is really small and houses the front camera. The bezels are minimal and screen to body ratio is over 90% which is excellent for a phone priced under 20000.

The display size is 6.3 inches with Full HD Plus resolution and an aspect ratio of around 19.5:9. The display is beautiful with rich colors, good saturation, and contrast. Because of the small notch and thin bezels, watching movies or playing games on this device is a great experience.

On the back, you will see some 3D effects. Oppo has used 2 colors on the back with diamond cuts which can be seen from an angle. It is a fresh design and you will love it if you are bored of seeing boring plain black or white backs. If you don't like flashy stuff then you might hate the back of Oppo F9. The phone comes in 2 colors: Red and Blue. Blue one is our favorite.

The thickness is under 8mm and it weighs around 170 grams. You will find it comfortable in hand. One hand usage might not be possible though.

On the back, we have a fingerprint sensor and a dual camera setup. The Oppo F7 came with a single 16MP camera but this time Oppo has added a secondary 2MP depth sensor to help with portrait mode pictures with depth/bokeh effect. The front camera is the same 25MP shooter as we saw on the F7. The camera performance is similar to F7. The outdoor pictures look vibrant with good amount of details. The indoor pictures under low light conditions are not that great and not bad either. Oppo is using AI to enhance the pictures depending on the scene. The selfies look great as well. The phone will beautify your face using AI. If you don't like that, you can turn it off. Overall, it is a good camera phone with shots that are rich, vibrant and well balanced.

Under the hood, Oppo F9 and F9 Pro have a MediaTek Helio P60. Helio P60 is a very capable SoC with 8 cores out of which 4 are high-performance Cortex A73s while the other 4 are high-efficiency Cortex A53s, all clocked at 2.0GHz. For all your gaming needs there’s a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU which also works well. The hardware is powerful and power efficient and you won't face any day while day to day usage or gaming. On Antutu, you can expect a score of around 135000 which is similar to the score of Snapdragon 660.

The Oppo F9 and F9 Pro pack a 3500mAh battery, which is decent capacity. Thanks to the power efficient SoC, you can expect a day of backup with heavy usage and 1.5 days of backup with low to medium usage. The phone comes with VOOC fast charging which is really fast. You can get 2 hours of talking with 5 minutes of charge. This is crazy quick. Oppo has bundled a 20W Fast charger in the box which is great.

The Oppo F9 runs on Color OS which is a skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Color OS is a heavily customized skin and has a lot of bloatware. If you are someone who likes the look and feel of stock Android then Oppo F9 is not for you. If you absolutely hate the skin and like the phone then installing Nova launcher is a good option.

And to your caution, there’s no IP rating on this one so keep it as far from liquids and dust as possible.

The Oppo F9 is priced at 19990 and the F9 Pro is priced at 23990. We think F9 provides more value for money. The F9 Pro has just 2GB of extra RAM so spending extra 4000 for it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Oppo F9 is a gorgeous smartphone with latest features at the decent price. Go for it if you need a fresh looking smartphone with good cameras, a powerful processor at around 20k.
