Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Brief Review and Pros Cons:

Xiaomi delighted the big-smartphone cravers with the Mi Max, this time around Xiaomi put up before the world, a successor to the Mi Max, shockingly named Mi Max 2. Mi Max 2 builds upon the balance and power of Mi Max and takes it ahead in the upper-middle budget segment in the Indian markets. The design is not very different from the original Mi Max and follows the same surfboard, metal unibody aluminum approach but in a bigger package.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 flaunts a gigantic 6.44-inch IPS LCD display at Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio, making a decent pixel density of 342 PPI. The colors are balanced with contrast and vibrancy. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The smartphone is not very unique in design and obeys a pattern found in Xiaomi’s arsenal. That doesn’t mean Its bad, It is comfortable to hold but can’t be operated with a single hand. Being a budget phablet champion, don’t expect bezel-less display. There are significant bezels and kind of reminds you the value Xiaomi has been offering a budget. Being a biggie, the smartphone is quite on the heavier end at 211 grams.

On the inside, the smartphone has a decent build up starting with Snapdragon 625 at its core, coupled with a giant 4GB of RAM, making multitasking a breeze. Snapdragon 625, encloses the Adreno 506 as GPU. Adreno 506 exudes impressive power with smooth handling of most graphics workloads, though don’t expect it to be the best of the lot and some heavy games might introduce some stutter over longer durations of time. Metal unibody also makes the smartphone a bit warm over significant durations of heavy use. The performance is decent and you won’t find any hiccups in normal usage. Hardcore gaming might not be the smoothest on this giant. Talking about the numbers, Mi Max 2 scores 57902 on AnTuTu benchmark, compared to 61616 of Redmi Note 4. On GeekBench 4, Mi Max 2 scores a decent 799 in single core test and 2353 on multi-core test, compared to 832 and 3011 by Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, which can be attributed to the resources spent on powering that giant screen.

Mi Max 2 comes in 3 storage options of 64/128 GB with all the other configurations maintained. It also grants the freedom of expansion via MicroSD up to 256GB but the point to notice is that Its a hybrid SIM slot, so you can’t use MicroSD with dual SIMs onboard.

Cameras have never been Xiaomi’s forte, that continues with Mi Max 2. The smartphone boasts a single 12MP sensor(f/2.2), which isn’t the best performer in the range. A dual tone LED flash goes with the sensor. The video capabilities empower this device to capture 2160p@30 fps and 720p@120fps. For the selfie lovers, Xiaomi has packed a 5MP, f/2.0 sensor which performs decently if not the best in the price range, the low-light performance isn’t much appreciable as well. If your requirements are not very titled in the direction of great camera performance, the Mi Max 2 is good enough.

Mi Max 2 runs on Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) out of the box, with Xiaomi’s wildly popular MIUI 9 on top of it. MIUI is far from stock Android but provides a solid experience. Xiaomi if you know, doesn’t make any promises about the Oreo update but we are very confident that with MIUI 10, Xiaomi might give the Oreo injection to Mi Max 2. When will that happen? Not very soon.

Talk of battery and the Mi Max 2 will just baffle you, with a whole powerhouse of 5300mAH, the giant can easily last 2 days, even with that giant LCD display. We can’t just say anything about the battery on this one, you can’t ask for more. Mi Max 2 comes with a USB C port and does support fast charging.

Mi Max 2 as talked earlier is Xiaomi’s biggie offering, targeted at the upper-middle segment and is priced well at Rs. 13,999 for the 32GB variant and 15999 for the 64GB variant, Its serious value for money If you like phablets.
