redmi 5 vs redmi 4 comparison

Redmi 5 is the successor of Redmi 4 for Xiaomi but makes life tougher for the competitor phones like Lenovo K8 Plus, Tenor E and Micromax Canvas Infinity.

Let's compare Redmi 5 vs Redmi 4 side by side to see what has changed in the specification, features.

1. Design & Display

Redmi 5 as has been the trend brings a 5.7 HD+ bezel-less display with a resolution of 1440 x 720p and aspect ratio of 18:9, while the older Redmi 4 had a 5-inch HD display with similar resolution but the aspect ratio of 16:9(not bezel-less).

The build quality of both the phone is similar but the bezel-less display in Redmi 5 looks more attractive.

2. SOC/Processor Comparison

Redmi 5 is powered by Snapdragon 450 with an Antutu Benchmark Score of 55000 which is around 20% improvement over Qualcomm 435 as seen in Redmi 4. Surely, the Redmi 5 is going to perform better than Redmi 4.

3. RAM & Storage Comparison

Redmi 5 comes in two variants with specifications as 2GB of RAM with 16GB internal memory and 3GB of RAM with 32GB internal memory. Redmi 4 had three variants with RAM/internal memory options as 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB.

Both the devices have hybrid sim slot which means you can either use it as a Dual sim device or extend the memory via Micro SD Card. In such cases, always choose the variants with the highest RAM and internal memory to be full proof for future use.

4. Software Comparison

Redmi 4 was launched with MIUI 8 skin over Android 6.0, but now with upgrades, both Redmi 5 and Redmi 4 run on latest MIUI 9 skin over Android 7.1.2. MIUI is not the best of the custom skin as is not properly optimized and consumes a lot of RAM.

5. Camera Comparison

Redmi 5 comes with a rear camera of 12MP and front camera sensor of 5MP, while Redmi 4 had 13MP as rear sensor and 5MP as the front sensor. The camera performance of both the phones is similar in both daylight and low light conditions. No major improvements are seen in the Camera department in Redmi 5 over Redmi 4.

6. Battery & Charging Comparison

Redmi 5 comes with a battery rated at 3300mAH compared to the battery size of 4100mAH in Redmi 4. Certainly, the Redmi 4 has a better battery life compared to Redmi 5. Redmi 5 can easily give a backup of around 1 day in normal usage while Redmi 4 can give a backup of around 1.5 days with normal usage.

Neither of the phones has fast charging so they would take around 2-2.5 hours to charge from 0 to 100%
