Updated on 2019-06-24 by Geetansh Arora

We have seen a lot of launches this year in the price range of Rs.10k to Rs. 12k. A lot of people prefer to buy phones priced around Rs.10000 that's why we have come up with a list of best smartphones under 12000 available in India. The list contains all the latest phones as of July 2019. Redmi Note 7S and Redmi Y3 are the recent top launches in this price range and have been included here. Phones like Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 have seen big price cuts and have made to these top picks.

In this list, we have covered smartphones from all big brands like Samsung, Honor, Redmi or Mi, Asus, Motorola, Oppo Realme.

The display size on most phones is 5.5 inch or 6.4 inches. You can find phones with 19:9 and 19,5:9 aspect ratio display which is the latest trend. Bezel-less notch display is the current trend and you will see plenty of new phones with a regular notch or the new dew-drop/tear-drop notch.

Brief Review:

The Redmi Note lineup of phones has always been a market dominator in the budget segment. This year with the release of their Note 7 and Note 7 pro we first thought that Xiaomi has basically dominated the budget segment.

It was only when there were rumors of the Note 7S being released especially with the speculated specs, the tech world and Note fanboys thought that Redmi is making a huge mistake. As per what the leaks suggested this looked like a parts spin of between the Note 7 and the Note 7 pro.

When the Note 7S did release it did turn out to be a parts spin-off, until the point the price was dropped. To keep this short review nice and crisp till the end we will discuss the verdict of the phone for the conclusion. With that said this is probably the best strategy that Redmi has ever played. Why do we think so? Read on to find out in this review of Redmi Note 7S.

Now before we even get to the specs just remember this that this phone is truly a part spin-off between Note 7 and the 7 pro. With that said let’s jump right into the review.

The Note 7S comes with glass sandwich design where we see gorilla glass 5 to both the front and the back and the phone just screams premium. That said the frame that holds the back and front panel is a plastic one and gives the overall build and design a pretty good feel. Not only this but the back also comes with a beautiful gradient back finish, that like the 7 and 7 pro which overall gives the 7S too a beautiful look.

Coming to the buttons. To the right, we have tactile power and volume buttons, classic Redmi. To the top of the phone, we find the secondary microphone, 3.5mm headphone jack, and an IR blaster. To the left, we see the Hybrid SIM card slot which can be used with 2 SIMs or a SIM and a micro SD card expandable up to 256 GB. Finally, to the bottom, we get the primary microphone, Type C port, thank you Redmi and the speaker grill. We have the Dual camera setup at the back of the phone with a well-placed classic fingerprint sensor in the middle.

All in all, the 7S is on par with the 7 and 7 pro if not better, the icing on the cake the entire phone is coated with Xiaomi’s patented P2i coating. What is that? This basically makes the phone humidity and spill proof and that in our book is great.

The display has been one of the strongest suits of Redmi especially for the Note series since forever. This thankfully continues for the Note 7S too. To begin with we have gorilla glass 5 protecting the front of the display. Getting into the specs of the display itself we have a 6.3-inch FHD+ Dot notch LCD. This display runs at 2340 x1080p and has a very welcoming 450 nits of brightness with a 409ppi screen density.

Picture quality looks really nice and punchy with accurate colors. It might not be as vivid and punchy as an AMOLED panel. Yes, LCD’s stand no chance when compared to AMOLED ones. But for what it is the display is simply put the best in this price point. We are sure that you will definitely like it.

When it comes to battery life, Redmi has always been on point. The same has been continued with the 7S too. The 7S gets a very modest and very frequently appearing 4000mAh. This is one of the best features that the Note series has been providing ever since Note 3. The 4000mAh battery is easy 1-day battery life. If you’re a light user you will easily get into the second day.

The 7S comes with a 10W standard charger  but supports Quick Charge 4.0 charging technology to quickly charge the phone. Note that, the fast charger is not bundled in the box. All in all, the 7S is basically a champ when it comes to battery life.

Now coming to the camera review. The department that makes all the difference. Let us get the specs out of the way. The 7S gets the same 48MP F1.8 primary sensor and 5MP F2.2 depth sensor as seen on the Note 7 Pro. The selfie shooter gets again the same 13MP F2.0 shooter. Now what’s funny is this that the 7S runs on Snapdragon 660, more on this in a while. Natively the 660 does not support both, a 48MP and 5MP sensors.

The picture snapped is a compressed 12MP one and gives plenty of details. The picture quality will be good and full of detail thanks to the 4 in 1 pixel binning technology. Now there are 2 48MP sensors on the market. One is from Sony and is aka Sony IMX 586 while the other one is from Samsung known as the GM1 sensor. The Note 7S hosts the GM1 Samsung sensor while the Note 7 Pro hosts the Sony IMX sensor.

OnePlus 7 Pro also hosts the Sony IMX 586 48 MP sensor. Yes it is sad but it is true that the 48MP sensor is nothing else but a complete marketing scheme. Redmi has played it very, very well.

The selfie camera is also pretty darn good. 13MP with all the bell and whistles that are expected of a 13MP lens. The selfie camera supports standard features like 2D facial unlock and selfie portraits.  Pictures taken will be well detailed and the overall image quality is good.

The camera department is a mixed bag cause the 48MP shooter is a capable shooter. It could deliver true 48MP shots if a much powerful chipset were used. As of today, you will most definitely not be disappointed with this camera, however, it won’t wow you either.

So, as we mentioned in the camera department that how Redmi has very cleverly played things of with the use of the 48MP sensor. We also mentioned that the 7S is a parts spin-off. Well, in the processor side the 7S uses the same aforementioned Snapdragon 660 processor with AI capabilities. This is the full-fledged SD660 with the higher 2.2GHz clock speed used in the Note 7. The 660 is a very capable processor and day to day task will be a breeze to use.

Now, again we see Redmi’s very strong marketing strategy coming in to play with the use of a 3/32GB variant and the 4/64GB variant exactly same as Note 7. You will be able to play high end games like PUBG but at medium setting with zero frame loss and high settings with a few frame drops.

We always say this that a phone hardware is not the only thing that runs the phone as the software behind it also matters allot. Well, the good news is the Note 7S runs on MIUI 10 atop Android 9 Pie. MIUI 10 is the result of Xiaomi’s over the year evolution of their custom skin.  The UI is pretty heavy with a few neat tricks. However, what is worse is this that the UI is far, far from even being in the vicinity of stock Android.

Let us now take a peek in to the price before we could conclude. The 3GB/32 GB variant comes at rupees 10999 and the 4GB/64 GB variant comes at rupees 12999.

Comparing the Note 7S pricing with the Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. The Note 7 with the 3/32GB variant comes at Rs 9999 and the 4/64GB variant comes in at 11999. While the Note 7 Pro with the exact same specs as that of the 7S but with a Snapdragon 675 comes at Rs 13999 for the 4GB/64GB and Rs 16999 for the 6GB/128GB variant.

Yes, the 7S is placed right between the 2 Notes and Redmi is trying to capture each and every user in this price range of under 10000 to under 15000 by offering one bait or the other.

Now here is what we suggest. If you were to choose between the Note 7 and the Note 7S, we would say go for the top end variant of the Note 7. This will be a 1000 rupees less than the base variant of the Note 7S while giving you an extra GB of RAM and double the storage.

While if you really want the best graphics and processing power pay 2K more and buy the base variant of the Note 7 pro. With this, you get the Snapdragon 675 and Adreno 612 GPU which is miles ahead of the Adreno 512 which you get with the SD660 on both the note 7 and the note 7S.

Honestly speaking if your budget was tight, we wouldd say buy the top end variant of the Note 7. This will be a great proposition as the Note 7S is not really a huge value for money solely because of the 48MP sensor as it really doesn’t turn any table.

Brief Review:

Redmi started focusing on the smartphone with better capabilities of shooting selfies with the Y series of smartphone in late 2017. Well, this year sees the 3rd iteration in that lineup. Today we look into the Redmi Y3. The Redmi Y3 brings along with itself huge improvements from the past but does it beat the competition? However, this lineup has been very confusing as it ends up competing with its own siblings. Namely the Note and the conventional Redmi lineup.

Redmi’s fancy way of saying gradient back or Aura prism design has crept down to the Y3. The back of the device is an Aura prism design but is a plastic material that pretends to be glass. The device has a fingerprint sensor at the back with the dual camera single LED setup on the top left corner of the phone. When you turn the device over you have the power and volume keys to the right. secondary microphone, IR blaster and a 3.5mm headphone jack to the top. On the left, we have a SIM card slot which also houses a dedicated memory card slot which can be expanded up to 512GB. Finally, we have the primary microphone the MicroUSB port and the speaker grill to the bottom. It is weird as the similarly priced Note 7 base model has a Type C port. The phone comes in 3 colors as listed on the official website of India. They are Prism black, Elegant Blue and Bold Red. The phone is designed well and looks nice overall.

Up next we have the display of the device. This is one area where Redmi has completely cheaped out. The reason being that the Y3 has an HD+, yes, a 1520x720p U-notched display. Well, it does give users an 86.83% screen to body ratio and 450 nits of peak brightness. Now the display is not bad however again the similar priced Note 7 has an FHD+ panel. In fact the much cheaper Redmi 7 shares the exact same display from the Y3. The good news is this that the Y3 gets a Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Apart from this, there is nothing special in the display department at least.

Following the display, we have the battery life of the phone. This is at least one place where Redmi didn’t cheap out as the Y3 comes with a massive 4000 mAh battery. Now the good news is this that thanks to the low-res display and the comparatively low-powered processor, more on this later the Y3 gets great battery life.  Now there is no doubt that the phone has a great battery life and the capacity in- itself is huge but. This becomes disappointing when we realize that the cheaper Redmi & has the same battery capacity. The charger that comes in the box is a standard one as it's rated at 10W. All I all the battery department is kind of a mixed bag.

Now we come to the main focus of the phone. The camera, rather cameras. The Y3 in total has 3 cameras. 2 to the rear and 1 to the front. The rear camera is a setup of a primary 12MP F2.2 and 2MP depth sensor. The primary sensor is nothing out of the blue. It takes decent shots and features most of the features seen on similarly priced phones. Now what’s amazing is in the camera up front. The Y3 features a whopping 32MP selfie shooter with AI capabilities. The Ai capability enables the Y3 for better Face unlock than most of its competitors. The pictures taken are a result of the Y3’s Ai integration. With features like AI beautify 4.0, AI portrait and low-light shots. The selfie shooter also features an 80o field of view to accommodate more people oi the frame. Redmi makes sure you get the best of results for the price that you invest in this phone. All in all, the Y3 delivers when it comes to selfies.

Last but not least we come to the performance of the device. At the heart of the phone resides Snapdragon 632 from Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 632 is the successor to the Snapdragon 630 and scores around 103000 on AnTuTu benchmark. Based on the 14nm manufacturing process and Kryo 250 cores the 632 is clocked at 1.8ghz. Now to be very honest this is not a heavy workload lifting processor but in the same context, it won’t slow you down either. The GPU again is the very old Adreno 506. The Y3 with the Snapdragon 632 comes coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. Day to day task with light usage should be fine. However, this is a phone on which you will not be able to play the most demanding games of multitasking like a champ due to the low capacity of the RAM. The only disappointment is this that the similarly priced Note 7 comes with a much, much powerful Snapdragon 660.

Now we all know that hardware alone is not the driver of a phone and the software that binds the Redmi Y3 is MIUI 10 atop Android 9 Pie. MIUI is s pretty heavy UI and it not for everyone as it’s a major departure from stock android. However, it’s not to say this that it's bad or anything. It's just this that the phone would have felt a lot faster if stock Android were used. All in all, for what the phone is priced at the processor at the very least could have been better.

So, before we wrap everything up, let’s talk about the pricing. The Redmi Y3 comes in one model only that is the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage and is priced at Rs. 9999. Now Redmi markets this phone for selfie lovers and this truly is a phone for that very audience. If you want the bets selfie-taking smartphone at this price range that also has great battery life, look nowhere else buy this phone.

Redmi Y3 is a decent phone but not the best in this price range. Go for it if you need a great selfie phone from Xiaomi. Otherwise, there are better options like Redmi Note 7 which costs same and comes with a better processor and display. Realme U1 and Realme 3 are two great options from Realme. U1 comes with Helio P70 chipset and has a nice 25MP selfie camera as well.

Brief Review:

Samsung isn't really known for making value for money phones and that's why they have been having a tough time in India. Brands like Redmi, Realme, Motorola, Oppo, and Vivo have flooded the market with plenty of good phones at great prices and Samsung has lost top spot as well. Samsung Galaxy M10 and M20 are here to change that trend and look very impressive smartphones in the budget segment. Let's take a look at what M20 offers.

Both M10 and M20 have a very similar design. The only major change you will see is that M20 has a fingerprint sensor on the back and the display of M20 is a bit larger than M10's display. The phone has a polycarbonate build with a glossy back which looks good but gets smudged easily. The display on the front has a small notch. Samsung calls it an Infinity V display. The front camera is placed inside the notch and the earpiece is above the notch. The bezels all around are thin but the chin is narrow as well which means the screen to body ratio is more than 90%.

The display resolution is Full HD 1080. It is not an AMOLED panel but still, it is a beautiful and sharp display with good colors and viewing angles. Overall, this is nice looking smartphone with a beautiful display under 15000 from Samsung.

The battery inside the phone is massive 5000 mAh and the charger that comes with the phone is a 15W fast charger. The battery backup of the phone is excellent and it will last for around 2 days with medium usage and more with light usage. The fast charger works well and charges the phone fully is less than 2 hours 30 minutes which is excellent considering the battery capacity. The phone weighs 186 grams which is a decent weight and is easy to hold.

The Samsung M10 is powered by Exynos 7904 1.8GHz octa-core chipset. It is not the best you would find in this range but still it is a decent chipset which handles multitasking well. The gaming performance isn't that great though. There are 2 variants of Samsung M20: 3GB RAM 32GB Storage and 4GB RAM 64GB storage. Those who are going to install a lot of apps and play games should go for the 4GB 64GB variant of M20.

The Samsung M20 runs on Samsungs Experience UI which is a skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. There is a good amount of bloatware. The UI is clean and easy to use though. The performance of M20 on benchmarks is decent as well. It scores a bit above 100000 on Antutu benchmarks.

On the camera side, we have a surprise from Samsung. The rear camera is a dual setup of 13MP (f/1.9) + 5MP (f/2.2 ultra-wide) which is the same we saw on M10. While most companies just throw in a useless 2MP depth sensor as a secondary camera, Samsung has added an ultra wide angle lens which can be very useful. The primary sensor is also a good one and has an f/1.9 aperture which helps in low light shots. The camera on the front is an 8MP f/2.0 sensor. Both front and rear camera performance are decent for an under 15000 smartphone but not the best. The pictures taken in daylight look nice with good amount of details. The portrait mode pictures also look decent. If you need a phone with a great selfie camera, Realme U1 should be your choice.

The phone comes with a headphone jack and a triple slot sim tray so you can use 2 VOLTE sims simultaneously with a MicroSD card. Dedicated MicroSD slot is something we love because it gives flexibility to the user to increase storage without compromising with the dual sim functionality of the phone.

Overall, Samsung M20 is an excellent value for money smartphone and one of the best phones under 15000 you can buy. Great design, nice display, excellent battery, good cameras make it a great allrounder phone. If your usage is light, you can go for the 3-32GB variant which is priced a bit above 10000 and heavy users should go for the 4-64GB variant. Other good options in this range include Realme 2 Pro, Redmi Note 6 Pro, and Moto One Power

4. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 is one of the best smartphones under 12000

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 2048 GB
  • 6.26 inch Full HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 12MP + 5MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 13MP
  • 5000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Blue, Titanium Colors

Best Price ₹11999

Brief Review:

Asus has been doing fine in the smartphone industry with its trump card of providing the best battery backup among the mid-range phone with a powerful processor and decent pricing. This Max Pro M2 is a successor of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and comes with some major improvements in the similar launch price. To make the space for Max Pro M2, the Max Pro M1 has seen a price cut now and you can check it here. M1 has seen a lot of software updates for improvements in camera, security etc.

Asus Max Pro M2 comes with a solid build quality and a 6.26-inch big screen with Full HD Plus resolution. The notch type display has good viewing angles and color reproduction. It comes with the latest Gorilla Glass 6 and the screen remained intact with minor scratches when we dropped it a couple of times. The notch is small and the phone looks decent.

The Pro M2 is powered by a very powerful Snapdragon 660 which comes with Adreno 512 GPU. It can easily handle all your multitasking and high-end gaming. On the Antutu charts, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 scores around 1,43,000 and easily beats the Redmi Note 6 Pro, Realme 2 Pro and the Samsung M20 which are seen as its competitors in the under 15000 budget segment.

The Snapdragon 660 is clocked at 90% of the maximum efficiency in M2 Pro but still beats the competitors by a margin. To support a powerful processor, it comes with a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which can be extended by up to 2 TB using a dedicated SD card slot. So if you are looking to use a lot of apps in parallel or use heavy applications, then you will not be disappointed with this phone.

The camera has also seen a huge improvement. The selfie camera on the Max Pro M1 was a disappointment, though Asus improved a lot of prospects through software upgrades. Let us now check the review of camera on Max Pro M2. The rear camera has a dual setup with 12 MP Sony IMX486 and 5 MP depth sensor and a LED flash to assist photos in the low light. The camera images are sharp with decent color reproduction. The rear camera supports EIS and 4K (Ultra HD) video recording. For portrait shots, the edge detection, blurring effect and sharpness are accurate and the camera does a good job overall and is a big improvement over the Pro M1. The front camera has a 13MP sensor with LED flash and here also the images are good. In low light, there is some noise which could be observed. Overall, for the pricing of under 15k, the camera setup is good.

On the software side, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 was launched with Android Oreo but they have started pushing the Android 9.0 (Pie) now. The operating system is stock android and there is very little bloatware so the usage experience would be good and clutter free. For the connectivity, this phone supports Dual VoLTE so you can call using VoLTE on both the sim if your network supports it.

With a powerful processor and good RAM management, the gaming experience is also flawless. Games like Asphalt, PUBG work fine without any lag and you will enjoy playing them. We observed very minor heating were playing PUBG continuously.

Coming to the most attracting aspect of this phone, the battery backup. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes with a 5000 mAh battery which gives a screen on time (SOT) of around 8 hours and complete backup of 1.5 days with low to medium usage. With heavy usage, you can still expect 1 day of battery life. The phone though does not have a Type C port for charging and no fast charging support is available. Also, there is no IP rating so keep the phone protected from dust and water.

For the security purpose, the phone supports fingerprint sensor and face unlocking. Both the unlocking mechanisms are accurate and very much improved functionality over the Pro M1. There is a multicolor LED notification inside the notch to give a different color output based on the type of notification.

Overall, with Powerful processor and performance, improved camera, stock android, and huge battery backup, this phone sits perfectly for one of the best phones under 15000. It receives stiff competition from Redmi Note 6 Pro and Realme 2 Pro and now the Samsung M20 but has its own features to separate it from the crowd.

5. Honor 8C

Honor 8C is one of the best smartphones under 12000

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 6.2 inch HD Display 720p
  • Back Camera: 13MP+2MP Dual
  • Front Camera: 8MP
  • 4000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Blue Colors

Best Price ₹12999

Brief Review:

Honor 8C is the successor of Honor 7C which arrived just 6 months before 7C. The 8C is priced above 7C and comes with some nice improvements. The display on the Honor 8C is a 6.2 inch IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution. It has a notch on top and the aspect ratio is 19:9. The lower resolution means things don't look sharp and the brightness isn't great as well. The display is average at best.

The phone has a glossy back with a black and blue gradient which looks nice and different. The design overall is just good and nothing exciting. We would have loved to see a back similar to Honor 8X. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back and it is very quick and accurate. There is face unlock available as well. Face unlock is also very quick is there is a good amount of light. In low light conditions, the phone increases the display brightness to light up the face.

The dual camera on the back is placed vertically. The dual setup is 13MP+2MP where 2MP is the depth sensor that Honor is using since last 2-3 years. The 13MP camera is good though, it has an f/1.8 aperture which helps a bit in low light photography. The front camera is an 8MP shooter and takes decent pictures in daylight conditions and average pictures in low light. The video recording is average as well because there is no stabilization and videos come out shaky.

The battery inside Honor 8C has a capacity of 4000 mAh. Honor has managed to pack a big battery and keep the phone slim and lightweight. The charger inside the box is the usual 5V 2Amp 10W charger. The battery backup of Honor 8C is excellent and it will easily last for 2 days with low usage and 1.5 days with heavy usage. The charger charges the phone in around 2.5 hours.

The Honor 8C is powered by the latest Snapdragon 632 Octa Core processor. There is 4GB of RAM and 32 to 64GB of storage. The storage can be increased via the dedicated MicroSD slot. The Snapdragon 632 processor with 4GB of RAM handles multitasking well. There were occasional frame drops in games like Asphalt though.

Honor 8C runs on EMUI skin based on Android Oreo 8.1. It is bloated and has a lot of preinstalled applications. It does have some useful features like dual apps. So if you are coming from a Stock Android phone, you might hate it for the UI or you might love it for the additional features.

Overall, Honor 8C is a mixed bag. The battery backup is great, there is a dedicated MicroSD slot and the multitasking is decent. Negatives include an HD display, bloatware and average camera performance in low light. It is a decent phone overall but not the best at all. Go for Realme 2 Pro, Redmi Note 6 Pro, Samsung M20 which provides better value for money. If you like Honor then increase your budget by 2000 and go for Honor 8X which is a much better option than 8C.

6. Realme U1 32GB

Realme U1 32GB is one of the best smartphones under 12000

Features

  • 3 GB RAM | 32 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 6.3 inch Full HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 13MP+2MP Dual
  • Front Camera: 25MP
  • 3500mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Blue Colors

Best Price ₹9999

Brief Review:

Realme U1 is a selfie-centric smartphone and is priced in the 10000 to 15000 price segment. The phone is made of polycarbonate and feels light. The back looks like glass but it is not. It does have a reflective design which looks really nice. Blue is our favorite color here. The phone feels nice in hand. The bezels are small so even with 6.3-inch display size, the phone is not too big. It comes with a clear silicon case in the box which is useful if you tend to drop the phone.

The display on the front is a 6.3 inch LCD panel with a screen to body ratio of over 90%. The bezels are really thin and the notch is waterdrop notch which only takes a fraction of space compared to usual rectangular notches that we have seen till now. The resolution of the display is Full HD Plus. It is a good panel with accurate colors and good viewing angles. Visibility under direct sunlight isn't great though.

For audio, there is a speaker on the bottom and it sounds nice and is loud as well. It is impressive. The headphone jack is also at the bottom with the MicroUSB charging port. The sound via the headphone jack is average and nothing special. The sim tray has 3 slots so you can put 2 sim cards and 1 MicroSD card at the same time. Realme U1 comes in 2 variants: 3GB 32GB and 4GB 64GB, if you are going with the base variant, you can slide in a MicroSD card anytime to increase the storage.

The Realme U1 comes with a fingerprint sensor on the back and there is face unlock available as well. Both of these methods are quick to unlock the phone, the fingerprint sensor is more secure though.

Realme U1 is powered by the MediaTek P70 chipset which is very similar to the P60 and has a bit higher clock speeds. The performance boost isn't great though. P60 was a good performer and so is P70, it is powerful enough to handle most games and apps without any lags. On benchmarks, it beats chips like Snapdragon 660 and scores around 150000 on Antutu benchmarks. You won't notice any throttling or overheating even while playing heavy games.

The battery on the U1 is 3500 mAh which is same as Realme 2 Pro battery. The battery backup is decent. With medium usage, it will last for a day. With low usage, you might get it running for around 1.5 days. The phone comes with 5V 2A charger and charges the phone fully in around 2 hours. In 30 minutes, you can get the phone from 0% to 30%.

The Realme U1 runs on ColorOS which is a heavily customized skin based on Android 8.1. There is plenty of useful feature and plenty of useless apps as well. If you have used Oppo, Vivo, Redmi phones before, you won't mind the interface. If you are coming from stock Android, there will be a learning curve.

Now let's talk about the camera, which is the USP of this device. The rear camera is 13MP+2MP setup which is same as Realme 2. There's is nothing special here. The 13MP is a color sensor and 2MP is a depth sensor. It takes decent photos in outdoor good lighting conditions and is average indoor. The front camera is a 25MP sensor which takes excellent pictures. The front camera performs really well, the colors look good, dynamic range is decent and selfies look great overall. It does beautify your face a bit but that's what most customers want and are using so we can't complain. Video recording is limited to 1080p at 30FPS. The videos look good with plenty of details, good colors and audio recording is decent as well.

Overall, Realme U1 is a well-balanced device and is a great phone for selfie lovers. The design is nice, processor is powerful, rear camera is average but front camera is great and battery backup is decent as well. We think it offers good value for money and will be one of the bestsellers in the under 15000 segment in India.

Brief Review:

Realme has made a strong market in the under 10k smartphone and is looking to capture the attention of users having a budget of 10k to 20k. With Realme 2 Pro, Realme certainly looks to heat up the competition with an awesome list of specs and a practical smartphone. Here we review the Realme 2 Pro which comes in 3 variants. Let us discuss the specifications and features this Realme 2 Pro offers which will be a Flipkart exclusive smartphone.

Realme 2 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch display having the Full HD Plus resolution with the Full-screen display. The display is perfectly bright and the brightness is well maintained in the outdoor conditions. Watching videos or movies on this smartphone is appealing and provides a good experience. On the front, we have a waterdrop or also known as the teardrop notch which makes the phone look amazing, which results in an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The earpiece is available just above the notch.

Realme has worked well on the designing on the smartphones and this one is no different, however, they have not replicated the diamond cut design which was features on Realme 1 and the Realme 2. So the Realme 2 pro comes with a polycarbonate body and a perfect glass type shiny finish which will be available in three colors Black Sea, Blue Ocean, and Ice Lake. The box also bundles a TPU(Transparent) case for the smartphone protection.

Coming to the performance of this smartphone which would surely invite a jaw drop reaction, the Realme 2 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset and the base variant has a 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage. The smartphone scores around 1,33,000 on the Antutu Benchmark which clearly explains how powerful this smartphone is. In our usage of this phone as a primary phone, we played games, watched YouTube videos, listened to music and all other day to day usage like calling, messaging etc and we did not face any problem at all.

We also played heavy games like PUBG for instance and the phone was able to multitask and handle heavy stuff easily. The Realme 2 Pro comes with an inbuilt AI gaming accelerator which helps boosts the performance. Here you also get Dual sim slot and a dedicated SD card slot to expand the storage by 256 GB.

Finally on the camera side, Realme 2 Pro has left everyone stunned with a powerful dual camera set up at the back that does not disappoint you at all. On the specification side, the dual rear camera comes with a 16 MP f/1.7 aperture (Sony IMX 398) which is the primary sensor and a 2MP sensor which is the depth sensor and a LED flash. The camera clicks perfect images in both and low light conditions and we were really stunned by the beauty it delivers. The front camera is a 16MP sensor which comes with the AI beautify mode and recognizes the personal characteristics to give you the best photo. The rear camera takes excellent pictures and the front camera is not great as of now. We hope Realme fixes it with a software update.

Both the front and the rear camera on Realme 2 Pro can click portrait shot and the edge detection is perfect. The camera app comes with 5 Light mode namely the Film Light, Mono-Tone Light, Natural Light, Rim Light, Bi-Colour Light which captures and transforms the photos. The camera is also powered by AI that can recognize various scenes and modify the images to look based on contrast, colors and best exposures.

The Realme 2 Pro runs on Color OS 5.2 which is a custom skin based on the Android 8.1 and is the same as used on the Oppo branded smartphones. Here the experience is not the best as the UI is not very clean and there are some bloatware apps which is a compromise in this beautiful and perfect smartphone.

On the battery side, we have a 3500 mAh battery to power the smartphone, in our usage, the battery lasts justs above a day with medium type usage. The phone has a micro USB and does not bundle a fast charger. Also, there is no IP rating on this phone, so protect it from dust and water. For the unlocking of this smartphone, you get both fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism and both are accurate and very very fast which unlock the smartphone in the blink of an eye.

The Realme 2 Pro has 3 variants which are priced as mentioned below.

Variant (RAM - Internal Storage) Pricing (in Rs)
4GB - 64 GB 13,999
6GB - 64 GB 15,999
8GB - 128GB 17,999

To us, the pricing on this Realme 2 Pro looks super exciting, especially the limelight is 8 GB version smartphone has been launched under 20000 for the first time. Realme 2 Pro comes with a tagline of Max Power Max Style and it surely very well delivers on the same. Overall, with its brilliant specifications, features, the Realme 2 Pro is a midrange killer and certainly should be your top choice for a smartphone under 15000 to 20000.

Brief Review:

Honor has been very aggressive in the under 20000 smartphone range. They have launched Honor 9 Lite, Honor 7X, Honor 9i which have received great response from the users. Honor is now launching Honor 9N, which is a rebranded Honor 9i(2018) launched in China. It comes with a notch display and beautiful design and is a good smartphone under 15000. Let us look at the reviews, specifications and features of this beautiful phone.

Honor 9N comes with a 5.84-inch notch display with a Full HD Plus resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The display is a full view display having an aspect ratio of 19:9. In terms of design, it has a glass design and looks similar to the one seen Honor 9 Lite. The front has a notch and the back has a horizontal dual camera setup with a LED flash at the top and a fingerprint sensor. Honor has launched Honor 9N with a tagline of #ExtraOrdinaryBeauty and the design and looks truly upholds the statement. It is lightweight and easy to hold and operate with one hand.

On the performance side, Honor has once again used the in-house Kirin 659 processor which we have seen in all the midrange phones starting from Honor 9 Lite, Honor 9i (2017) and the Honor 7X. This smartphone has 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage. We have seen the similar configuration in all the Honor phones in this price range and though Kirin 659 is not a powerhouse as Snapdragon 636 seen in Redmi Note 5 Pro but does handle multitasking with ease and one can easily go through all the daily tasks without any difficulty. But that Kirin 659 at the pricing of under 15000 does not raise the bar in the performance side when compared to the likes to Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max or the Mi A2 which has just launched. Honor 9N scores around 75000 on the Antutu Benchmark.

Coming to the camera, Honor 9N supports a dual rear camera setup with 13MP as the primary sensor and 2MP sensor as the secondary sensor with Dual tone LED flash and autofocus. The camera works fine with clear and crisp shots and good colour reproduction. The camera also supports face detection, portrait (bokeh) mode and HDR mode. The front camera is a 16MP shooter which is located inside the front notch and as expected clicks beautiful pictures and also supports portrait shots via software processing.

Honor 9N runs on EMUI 8.1 which is a custom skin based on the Android 8.1 Oreo and works smooth. They are some bloatware but Honor has well refined the EMUI over the years. There is a hybrid micro SD card slot to expand the memory up to 256 GB. Honor 9N supports both fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism and both of the methods work accurately and swiftly. Honor 9N does not carry any IP rating so keep it safe from the dust and water.  It has a battery rated at 3000 mAh which can keep the phone powered up for a day. You would need to charge it after a full day usage.

Honor 9N though has been launched as the rebranded version Honor 9i (2018) but in actual it is a more beautiful version of all the Honor midrange phones. It has a stunning looking notch and is Honor's first phone under 15000 with a notch. The dazzling looks are very attractive and if you are looking to buy a phone under 15000 with a notch display, Honor 9N has to be your top choice. If you are not much concerned with the high-end gaming or heavy usage, this phone would work through easily.

The 3GB 32GB variant is priced at Rs. 11999 and the 4GB 64GB variant is priced at Rs. 13999. Honor has added a 4GB 128GB variant as well which will cost you 17999. We think the middle variant 4GB 64B provides the best value for money.

Brief Review:

Samsung doesn’t really trust in value for money and is quite reliant on Its loyal fanbase across the subcontinent. For people, who just can’t get enough of Samsung, the company has been steady albeit slowly trickling down features from Its star-of-the-arena flagships. So, Samsung has been quietly upgrading Its mid-segment and ‘budget’ arsenal with top of the line, 2018-grade features namely face unlock, minimal bezels and some more minor add-ons.

After some success with the A and the J series of smartphones, Samsung is looking to up Its On lineup with the latest trends and Samsung Galaxy On6 becomes the first smartphone to receive the 2018 treatment. Let’s find out what all Samsung has packed in there to delight the customers. Let us look at point by point review of the Samsung Galaxy On6 features and specifications.

Talking about the design and build quality of Samsung Galaxy On6, iconic Samsung design thrills could be well sensed here with a tall display, slightly rounded-more squarish feel. The smartphone looks great, especially that blue shade but when you hold It you know It that Its built of plastic with no trace of metal or the aluminium frame you’ve come to expect of upper budget range smartphones. That doesn’t take away the fact that the smartphone looks nice and feels solid.

It is fairly slim at 8.2mm and weighs only 154 grams which are nice numbers for a comfortable use. On the front, you’ll find the touted ‘Infinity’ display which is just Samsung teasing you with Its toned version of edge to edge displays, not curved and with some bezels up top and bottom. The design is not exactly surprising for Samsung smartphones. At the back we find a single sensor based camera setup sitting at the centre with a flash and fingerprint sensor and then there is the same silver Samsung branding. So, to sum It up - Samsung Galaxy On6 is not exactly new on the design front and looks like most other Samsung smartphones, the new is the display which now goes to the edges of the smartphone. Its solid but not metal solid and feels good in the hand.

On the display side of the Galaxy On6, it has a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 720 x 1480 pixel resolution at an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. That makes up ~294 PPI on pixel density and while the display isn’t really at the top with other smartphones in resolution, Its really nice display credits to Samsung’s AMOLED panel. The contrast levels are great since Its AMOLED, the colours are punchy and brightness is in plenty. It is a great show affair and we think you’ll share this opinion.

Samsung phones have not been the best multitasking machines, even in 2018, when other phones are raking in with the best processors. But still, Samsung has been able to crack its fan base audience very well.  This is where Samsung ‘budget’ and most of Its mid-range devices seem to slack and this time Its no different. Samsung Galaxy On6 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7870, which is basically composed of eight Cortex A53s clocked at 1.6GHz. On the graphical processing, On6 has got Mali-T830 MP1. Now, this configuration is not really even a close match for other smartphones in the range packing the best of the crop Snapdragon 636.

Don’t get us wrong, the smartphone packs enough to get you done through basic everyday usage- checking emails, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and some casual gaming but as things start to get serious you start seeing frame drops, stutters and lags. To consolidate multi-tasking, there is 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is on par with the pricing. So, If you expect serious performance from your smartphone Samsung Galaxy On6 can be a disappointment but for normal, casual usage, Its nothing bad. It scores around 47000 on the Antutu Benchmark which is again not the best but if you are a Samsung love but not a performance freak. Samsung Galaxy On6 would not disappoint you.  It has a dedicated microSD card slot to expand the storage by upto 256 GB which is a good addon point from Samsung.

The camera has been one of the favourites of Samsung and comes with a long-standing reputation. They have some of the best cameras in the range and we are delighted to give a nod to that here as well. Samsung Galaxy On6 has a 13 MP (f/1.9, 28mm) sensor with AF and LED flash. So no dual sensors but that isn’t bad news for the people looking to get background blur as Samsung has equipped the smartphone with software-based bokeh tricks which don’t go well all the time but you can expect them to be almost close to other smartphones in the range with dual sensors.

Coming to image quality, the camera takes great shots with an abundance of detail at daylight, the exposure and the white balance hits on the spot. Though, the Samsung style saturated colours and sharpening can be seen. The camera holds its ground gracefully in low-light conditions as well, the shots are not awesome but impressive for a budget aimed device, which can’t be said for most other smartphones in the range. On the front, there is an 8 MP, a f/1.9 sensor with LED flash, again ready to make your selfies shine even in low-lights and It works really great, so If you want to keep your self-fame strong - On6 is a great choice.

Let’s talk about the software - Samsung’s Experience UI 9.0 can be seen on top of Android 8.0 Oreo. Now, the experience is snappy and responsive but the minimal and uncluttered appeal Samsung gained with this new UI theming is slowly fading away with tons of bloatware and redundant apps. So, If you seek a clean, neat performant software experience Samsung won’t be the apt choice but it does have some nifty additions like the bike mode and others which are really practical.

Samsung Galaxy On6 is powered by a 3000mAh which is a decent performer and can get you through the day on normal usage but If you like to heat things up a charger would be essential to carry around. So the shocker comes as there is no fast charging support or USB-C. There is no IP rating as well which we usually expect from Samsung, so would be wise to keep It distant from water. Except that, there is Samsung Face Unlock which works decently - it is not insanely fast but gets the job done and for all the faster requirements there is the fingerprint scanner at the back.

The smartphone is out there for you to buy on Flipkart. The pricing puts it in the den of budget lions like Asus Zenfone Max M1 and of course Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. The smartphone is available in two colour options- Blue and Black, Blue stands as out as the favourite.

Best Price ₹57900

Brief Review:

Every one of us was looking up to Samsung Galaxy S9’s launch - and Its finally here. The Galaxy S9 as many had guessed earlier is Samsung’s refined Galaxy S8, and if you are not that keen observer, you might pick it up as a Galaxy S8. The design is something which has been kept completely unchanged from last year’s S8. The smartphone uses the same glass sandwich build and comes in 4 metallic shades - Midnight black, Coral blue, Titanium grey and a new one, Lilac purple. With the glass back, comes the burden of being a fingerprint magnet and Galaxy S9 just takes it from Its predecessor. Weighing at 163grams, It is fairly light and is comfortably thick at 8.5mm.

The one thing with which Samsung put everyone in sheer awe last year was S8’s Infinity Display and this time through the surprise is absent but the display is as delightful to see and use as it was back then, even more so. Samsung Galaxy S9 packs a 5.8 inch, Super AMOLED, 1440 x 2960 pixel resolution display at the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio with a pixel density of ~570PPI. The display is absolutely gorgeous and more bright than last year, though not by much. Protected by Gorilla Glass 5 up front.

The Galaxy S9 comes with the latest Snapdragon 845 in US/China and Exynos 9810 for the rest of the world. Both chipsets are very powerful and can handle any task with ease. The Snapdragon variant scores around 260000 in Antutu benchmarks while the Exynos variant scores around 245000. In Geekbench, you get a score of around 8000 in multi-core tests which is 20% lower than the score of iPhone X and around 20% higher than the score of Note 8, Pixel 2 etc. These scores make Galaxy S9 the most powerful android phone.

There is 4GB of RAM and 64/256 GB onboard storage can be expanded using the hybrid sim slot which supports MicroSD to up to 400GB. To face all your graphics requirements, there is an Adreno 630 GPU onboard, which is best of the lot.

Samsung is putting a lot of force on the new cameras in the Galaxy S9 and It is impressive. The Galaxy S9 becomes the first smartphone to have a variable aperture lens camera. The S9 camera now has a 12MP primary sensor with two apertures - an f/1.5 one for low-light photos and the other one, f/2.4 for other situations. The camera can switch between these apertures depending on when it requires more light to get a better shot or when it requires more sharpness in the photo. Of course, Samsung offers a Pro mode in the camera where you can manually switch between the apertures. The smartphone retains the same 8MP, an f/1.7 sensor on the front as in case of last year’s Galaxy S8. Galaxy S9 also catches up to iPhone X with super slow-mo video capabilities which enable the smartphone to record at 960fps. Overall, the camera performance of Galaxy S9 is excellent.

As expected, Samsung Galaxy S9 runs on Android Oreo. The latest and greatest Android out there for now. Samsung is one of the lousiest OEM when it comes to shipping Android updates and we are not sure when last year’s S8 would receive the Oreo update or when S9 would receive the Android P update in future. Samsung has kept the same UI customizations over Android Oreo as it did with Galaxy S8. It is not stock, It is performant but It has got lots of apps you don’t want.

The Galaxy S9 is IP68 waterproof same as Galaxy S8 - so you can be pretty confident to take it out in rain or close to a pool. Finally, Samsung has put stereo speakers in a Galaxy smartphone, up front. It keeps the headphone jack, which is certainly rare in 2018.

The battery is a 3000mAh one which will pull off the day if you are an average user, otherwise, do keep a charger around. Talking about charging, Fast charging is available along with wireless charging on the Galaxy S9

Overall, Samsung Galaxy S9 is a powerful phone with an excellent camera. We were hoping for a new design but that didn't happen. Go for it if you need the best Android smartphone available in the market.
