Brief Review:

Realme after splitting from Oppo was not very successful thanks to the likes of Xiaomi’s Note series and now the Redmi series. However, everything started changing with the release of the Realme 3 Pro. The 3 Pro provides best in class processor, battery life and fast charging capabilities for a price that rivaled the like of the Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Now, with the release of the Realme C2, Realme plans of taking the Redmi 6 head on and the Redmi 7 to an extent. Will Realme be able to knock the competition or has the huge success of the Realme 3 pro got into their heads. Today we look into the short review of the Realme C2 and like always read on to find out.

The C2 comes with what Realme like to call a diamond cut finish at the back. This design is achieved by using Nano-scale composite particles and Realme for sure like to brag about it. Other design aspects involve the power button on the right and nothing on top apart from the secondary microphone. The volume rockers with the sim and dedicated memory card slot expandable up to 256GB,  reside to the left. Finally, the primary microphone the headphone jack and the speaker grill sit at the bottom of the phone. The phone also comes with a splash proof coating although it is to be noted that Realme makes no promises of the phone being waterproof.

Considering the fact that Realme has added a Nano-water coating and has a great diamond cut design. There are two color options at the time of writing this review: Diamond Black and Diamond Blue. Overall, this is what can be expected of a phone that starts at a price tag of below 6K and Realme has done a pretty fine job in this department.

Now as the price tag of the device is pretty low let us not expect great display with the best of resolutions. However, Realme did not cheap out with the display department here. The C2 comes with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 6.1-inch with an HD+ resolution at 1560X720p dew-drop notch display. Thanks to the notch the phone is able to reach a screen to body ratio of 89.35%.  This is a great panel especially considering the price tag. Realme has even gone further in adding a gorilla glass protection which for a budget of under 6000. They don’t mention which generation of the glass is being used but yes, it’s good to have some sort of protection than having nothing at all.

All in all, the display used is a pretty good one for the price of the phone and Realme has simply done a great job just like the prior department too.

Now, this is one department where Realme has simply knocked the competition out of the waters. This is thanks to the inclusion of a whopping 4000mAh battery in the phone. Now, if the display used by the phone were FHD+ or if the Processor used was top of the line, more on this later. We would have said that it’s pretty decent battery capacity. However, the C2 comes with an HD+ display and a low-powered processor. This coupled the huge 4000mAh battery and the aggressive power management by ColorOS 6 makes for the great battery life of around 2 days.

The phone will easily last any light user for 2 whole days and when put to heavy usage will undoubtedly last a full one day. This in our book is simply amazing.

The camera is another department that Realme has done a pretty decent job. The rear cameras are a combination of a primary 13MP F2.2 shooter coupled with a 2MP F2.4 depth sensor. Now, considering the price the cameras play pretty fair in our opinion. It can shoot 1080p videos and has an option for portrait photos and 4X maximum zoom. The selfie camera is a 5MP shooter of F2.0 aperture and has support for 2D facial unlock, AI beautification and portrait shots too. The selfie shooter turns out to be slightly more capable than the rear ones thanks to the lower aperture.

Pictures from the rear camera will be good in daylight but will also most definitely turn out slightly soft. This is expected of a phone with such a low price tag, no complaints there. However, this in no sense means that the camera is useless or anything. It is just that if you are expecting great photography out of these lenses, we would suggest you all to look elsewhere.

This is probably the greatest selling point of this smartphone. The Realme C2 comes with a MediaTek helio P22 Processor. The P22 is an 8-core processor containing 8 A-53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. This is a 12nm processor that provides huge power efficiency. For the price that the phone comes at makes the C2 the cheapest phone to come with the P22 a title that was owned by the Redmi 6 previously. The P22 scores a 78010 on AnTuTu Benchmark and is a pretty good score for the price that the phone comes in. The GPU, IMG PowerVR GE8320, on the other hand, is not as competitive as the CPU. However, it is good to run day to day task. Depending on the model that you choose the phone comes in 2 variants a 2/16 GB version and a 3/32 GB version. Like we said day to day task should not restrict the performance of the phone. However, it is to be noted that if you plan on gaming on the phone, we would suggest you look into other viable options in the higher budget segment.

As we know that the hardware of the phone as good as it might be, it is nothing if it is not backed by good software in the software front the C2 comes equipped with ColorOS 6.0 atop android 9 pie.  Yes, it’s true that the ColorOS is a huge departure from stock android. However, it is way snappier and sleeker than its inception. This is definitely a daily driver material and will not disappoint the users.

Before we wrap the review up let us take a dive on the pricing. The 2/16 GB variant comes in at rupees 5999 and the top end model comes in at 3/32 GB and a price tag of rupees 7999. At this price the phone that it competes directly with the Redmi 6 which also comes with almost exact same specs. Realme has priced the Realme C2 at an extremely completive price. If your budget is extremely tight then we suggest you go for the C2. There is no IP rating so keep the phone away from water and dust.

But if you do end up buying this phone, we are pretty sure you wouldn’t be disappointed with it. Until next time keep reading my friends.

Brief Review:

Samsung has been doing pretty well with the introduction of its budget lineup the M series. However, the A series which is basically its midrange flagship series has also been upping its game lately. Today we would be looking into the most affordable lot from the A series. Enter the Galaxy A10.

The question that remains is this that is the A10 going to beat the likes of Redmi and Realme? Or will it be just another phone trying to compete with the below rupees 10k range of smartphones? Read on to find out.

The first time when you see this phone you will be greeted with an all plastic build. Now we can’t really expect a glass build at this price range but the phone does not feel cheap all thanks to its rounded corners. The phone is quite hefty for a plastic build phone coming in at a 168g.

Apart from this, we have got a single 13MP shooter with an led flash at the top left corner with a back-firing speaker at the bottom left corner of the phone at the back. Turning over to the front of the phone we are greeted by the 6.2-inch infinity-V display which basically means that the notch on the phone looks like a V. More on the display to come later on. On the right side of the phone, you have the power button with the volume rocker on top of it. Coming to the left side of the phone we have a hybrid SIM slot carrying 2 SIM’s or a SIM and a micro SD card up to 512GB. At the bottom, we have the headphone jack to the left corner and the micro USB port to the center of the phone. The overall build and design are pretty much what is to be expected for a phone if this budget.

Now we mentioned that the screen is 6.2 inch with a V type notch earlier. This is, however, an HD+ panel with a resolution of 1520x720 pixels. This is nothing special nor is it a bad thing as it is expected from phones from in this budget. However, it is to be said that the quality of the panel is good considering the fact that it is from Samsung.

Coming to the software front its good news as the A10 runs on the latest One UI from Samsung on top of Android 9 Pie. One UI is a huge design, feature and performance overhaul from the previous messy versions of Experience UI that Samsung phones have been coming with. Honestly, this is probably our 2nd favorite custom skin after Oxygen OS that is close to stock android.
Well, sadly this is the end of the things that are okayish to decent about this phone. This is because the performance, camera, and battery are a bit of let down.

Looking at the battery rating, Galaxy A10 has a 3400mAh non-removable battery. Now when coupled with an HD+ display it offers a backup of more than a day. However, when we consider the presence of its closest competitor the Realme 3 the 3400mAh battery looks puny. That is because the Realme 3 has a massive 4230mAh coupled with the same resolution display.

Coming to the camera review, the Galaxy A10 packs a single 13MP F1.9 shooter to the rear with a 5MP F2.2 shooter to the front for a selfie. Now the pictures coming out of both the camera is decent. Now, what is disappointing is this that the cameras fail to compete with the lower priced M10 let alone phones from another brand. This is so as the M10 pack's dual cameras at the back, a similar primary 13MP at F1.9 along with a 5MP ultra-wide lens. Now things get even worse when we compare the cameras of the A10 with the Realme 3 which offers 13MP F1.8 primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor at the back and a whopping 13MP F2.0 sensor for selfies. Overall the camera at this price is not impressive considering the competition.

Now, we guess what one could do by an average camera and battery. But what if your phone feels sluggish all thanks to the choice of processor? The A10 comes with Samsung’s in-house Exynos 7884. This is an octa-core processor with 2 performance A-72 cores clocked at 1.6gHz and 6 power efficient A-53 cores clocked at 1.35gHz and is only marginally better than the Exynos 7870 used in the M10.

Again, matters get worse when we consider what the Realme 3 has got to offer. The Realme 3 comes with the Helio P70 which is literally the same processor used in the 25K priced Oppo F11 pro. Considering the Realme 3 cost only 500 rupees more than the A10 the bump in performance gives a difference of night and day. Not only is the CPU on the P70 more powerful than the 7884 but so is the GPU which in any given day is more powerful than the 7884. Overall the choice of processor is also sub-standard for the 9k pricing and the use of the Exynos 7904 would have been much appreciated.

The only variant of the A10 available is the Rupees 8499 one. This will get you 3 color option of Blue, Black or Red. What you get for this money is a 2GB RAM with a 32GB internal storage which is further expandable with the help of a hybrid memory card slot up to 512GB.

Comparing the Galaxy A10 with Galaxy M10 and Realme 3.

The Galaxy M10 has 2 variants: A rupees 7990 variant and an 8990 variant. The 7990 variant gets you 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal while the 8990 variant gets you a 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage which again is expandable up to 512GB using a dedicated memory card slot. If you don’t want to buy a Chinese phone then we’d advise you to go for the M10 rather than the A10 it’s a way greater value for money even at the base variant.

However, if you don’t have a beef with Chinese manufacturers, we’d definitely advise you to shell 500 rupees more and get the Realme 3 which is a better phone in every aspect possible. However, if you have a liking for the brand Samsung and trust in the quality, A10 and M10 are the best Samsung smartphone option for 9k budget despite a shortfall in features.

Brief Review:

Realme was a sub-brand of the very famous Shenzhen-based Chinese brand OPPO until 2018 when it separated to become an independent company. Realme focusses on mainly budget segment phones priced between 7k to 15K price segment. With offerings from Xiaomi and Samsung at this price point will the Realme 3 be able to keep up with the competition? Or will it be just another phone brand trying to survive in the ocean of budget smartphones?

Read on to find out as we list what’s good, average and bad in this brief review of the Realme 3.

Now when you first unbox the case of the Realme 3 you are pleasantly greeted with the phone followed by a 10W fast charger, a micro USB cable, and a clear film TPU case. Its good to see that Realme is providing a case right out of the box until you purchase a new one. Well, when you hear the word micro USB you might be thinking that its outdated right? But the fact is that this is a sub 11K phone and we can’t really complain much in this price range. An exception comes from Redmi Note 7 which impressively offers fast charging for a sub 10k smartphone.

Coming to the design first, the Realme 3 has a plastic body but a new gradient finish design giving it a much expensive look than it actually is. The fingerprint scanner sits behind the phone, although mention needs to be made of its slightly higher placement than the usual. Other design features include the vertical dual camera and a single LED flash set up at the leftmost corner. The primary camera comes with this yellow paint job around the rim of the camera that Realme calls the ‘Real Ring’.

Coming to the front gate, we have a large 1520 X 720 pixels 6.22-inch HD+ teardrop notch display giving it an 88.3 percent screen to body ratio. However, the phone comes with a considerable chin at the bottom. The display is 720p instead of 1080p and it is a bummer considering again it's previous offering the Realme U1 have 1080p displays. The quality of the display is however good for a 720p one. Again, what disappointing is the chin on the Realme 3 is actually larger than the company’s previous offering which is the Realme U1. The display is protected by gorilla glass 3 and has a max brightness of 450nits which is decent for this price point, though other manufacturers have moved to Gorilla Glass 5 and 6.

Coming to the camera front the Realme 3 houses a 13MP f1.8 primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. It is to be noted that this is the same setup seen in the previous Realme U1 which is not absolutely great in the price range but doesn’t disappoint the users either. The selfie camera is a 13MP f2.0 sensor which also comes equipped with face unlock. This, however, is again a downgrade from the Realme U1's 25MP selfie shooter. The camera captures decent images with good contrast and also supports AI capabilities to improve the images. Overall considering the phone priced at under 9000, the phone offers decent features and quality.  One fact about the camera is the rear camera is that the video recording capability is locked down to only 1080p despite the processor Helio P70 has 4K recording capability.

Staying on the processor front as mentioned earlier the Helio P70 from MediaTek is the animal running the show on this phone. The P70 is based on the 12nm manufacturing process and is an extremely capable processor as its almost on par with the Snapdragon 660 which is actually a good thing considering the phones lower price point. Even while gaming the Mali-G72 holds up to itself and games like PUBG mobile will surely play just fine on medium settings. Realme 3 AnTuTu score comes out at 1,37,901 which again confirms a strong performance.

The Realme 3 unlike some of its competition offers the best of both the world when it comes to SIM and Memory card slot. It provides both of them 2 SIM card slot and a separate Memory card slot which is expandable to a whopping 256GB. Other features include headphone jack at the bottom. Yes, we see the headphone jack as a feature as phone prices 5 times its own are removing it. Flanked beside the headphone jack are not 1 bit 2 microphone the micro USB cable and the speaker grill.

When compared to other phones in this price range that usually come with a Snapdragon 636, the P70 just crushes the competition. However, when compared with the Snapdragon 660 it falls slightly behind. So, performance wise the Realme 3 surely delivers.

Finally coming to the battery backup. The battery on the Realme 3 is a massive 4230 mAh. This is a major upgrade compared to the companies last offering which is the Realme U1. Combined with the 12nm P70 and a lower resolution 720p display, the phone delivers around 1.5 days of backup.

For the software, the Realme 3 comes with the latest Color OS 6.0 based on Android 9 Pie which comes with app drawer and other useful features. There are some bloatware apps that come installed on this phone. Also, there is no IP rating so you have to protect your phone from water and dust unlike Note 7 which offers splash-proof protection.

Now, we have been talking about the price point of the Realme 3 for a long time and here are the variants that are gonna be made available to the end users. The Rs  8999 variant will get you 3GB RAM and the 32GB of internal storage. While the Rs 10999 variant will get you 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

So, to sum everything up. The Realme 3, doesn’t really improve from its predecessor but makes some noteworthy change on the battery and processor department. It is true that the display is not all that great and the camera is also slightly above average but the 4230 mAh battery and the Helio P70 makes up for the other compromises.

According to us the best value for money is the base variant at rupees 8999 because at this price a P70 and a 4230 mAh battery is actually a great deal. So if the camera and display is not the topmost priority and performance and battery life is all that you want to go for this phone. At this price point, the phone faces stiff competition from Redmi Note 7 and Asus Zenfone Max M2

Brief Review:

We don't remember the last time we recommended a Samsung phone under 10000 to our users. Samsung is trying to change that and the Samsung Galaxy M10 and M20 look like a step in that direction. The Samsung Galaxy M10 is priced at around 8000 to 9000 Rs. and comes with a fresh design and a large 6.22-inch Infinity V display. Infinity V is just a fancy name for the small notch displays that we are seeing these days.

The front camera is placed inside the notch and the earpiece is above the notch. The bezels all around are thin but the chin does take a good amount of space at the bottom. The display resolution is just HD 720p so it is not that sharp. Color accuracy isn't great either. The phone has a plastic unibody design with curved edges. The phone feels light because of the plastic but it doesn't feel cheap. We haven't done a bend test so we don't know how strong it is. Overall, this is the best-looking smartphone under 10000 from Samsung.

There is no fingerprint sensor on the phone so face lock or pin lock are the only ways to make your phone secure. The face unlock is slow and takes 2-3 seconds sometimes which is irritating. Most people will end up using pin lock because of that. The battery inside the phone is 3400 mAh and the charger that comes with the phone is 5V 1A charger. The battery is not big but because of low-resolution display and efficient processor, the battery backup is great. The phone will last for a day easily with medium to heavy usage. The charging is slow because of the 1A charger. It takes more than 3 hours to fully charge the device from 0 to 100%.

The Samsung M10 is powered by Exynos 7870 chipset which first came out in 2016. It not a powerful chipset and cannot compete with Snapdragon 625 or 450. There are 2 variants of M10: 2GB RAM and 16GB storage and 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. Because of the average processor, the multitasking isn't smooth and you will see some lag even on the 3GB RAM variant. Samsung M10 is not suitable for games like PUBG. For normal users who need a phone for social media apps and calling, Samsung M10 is a good device.

The Samsung M10 runs on Samsungs Experience UI which is a skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. There is a good amount of bloatware. The UI is clean and easy to use though. The performance of M10 on benchmarks is average as well. It scores less than 50000 on Antutu benchmarks.

On the camera side, we have a surprise from Samsung. The rear camera is a dual setup of 13MP (f/1.9) + 5MP (f/2.2 ultra-wide). While most companies just throw in a useless 2MP depth sensor as a secondary camera, Samsung has added an ultra wide angle lens which can be very useful. The primary sensor is also a good one and has an f/1.9 aperture which helps in low light shots. The camera on the front is a 5MP f/2.0 sensor. Both front and rear camera performance are decent for an under 10000 smartphone. The pictures taken in daylight look nice with good amount of details. The portrait mode pictures also look decent.

The phone comes with a headphone jack and a triple slot sim tray so you can use 2 VOLTE sims with a MicroSD card. Dedicated sim slot is a really good option when you are buying phones with 16GB or 32GB of storage.

Overall, Samsung M10 is a good value for money smartphone. Finally, Samsung has launched a smartphone which we can recommend to our users. The multitasking and gaming aren't great though. So if your usage is social media apps, taking pictures, watching videos and calling, Samsung M10 is a good phone under 10000. It is available in Blue and Black color. The blue color is our favorite color of M10 and go for the 3GB 32GB storage as the price difference is just Rs. 1000. If you need more power then Realme 2 and Redmi Y2 are good options at a similar price.

Brief Review:

Asus Zenfone Max M2 is an economical variant of the Max M2 Pro which comes with a less powerful processor and an HD+ Plus display compared to Full HD+ on the M2 Pro with other things remaining more or less the same.

This Max M2 comes with a notch type 6.26 HD+ display which has good brightness and sharpness level. The notch size on this phone is slightly bigger than compared to the M2 Pro. Also, there is no Gorilla glass on this phone which is expected in the price point so you need to be extra cautious that you do not drop it. On the build quality side, the phone looks solid and the back of the phone is metallic which feels sturdy in hand.

On the processor side, this Max M2 comes with a relatively new Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 which was seen on the only phone, Honor 8C. The Antutu benchmark scores come around 1,05,000 which is equivalent to the Samsung M20 phone and is a good score for sub 10k phone. The performance gets support from 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory. It supports a dedicated SD card slot to expand the memory up to 2 TB which is a very much needed feature as the phone is now increasingly used for clicking/storing photos videos and other data. There is also a 3 GB 32 GB variant available for a price on under 10k.

In our camera review, we found this phone clicks good pictures which given the price point are best. In terms of specifications, the sensors are similar to the Pro version. On the rear camera, there is a 13MP primary sensor and a 2 MP dedicated depth sensor and an 8 MP sensor for front camera selfies. The photos capture a lot of details with very apt quality, sharpness and color reproduction. However, the low light camera clicks and video struggled with noise and in capturing all the details. The camera app also takes a bit of time while focussing on the objects.

The portrait shots also produce attractive images with proper edge detection/bokeh effect most of the time unless there is a complex object in the background. The video recording is available in 4K (Ultra HD) resolution but stabilization is not available in 4K. You can enable stabilization for video recording under the 1080p resolution.

Coming to the gaming performance, the new Snapdragon 632 fares well is most of the scenario. The low to medium end games work perfectly fine without any issues however the high-end games do suffer some lag because of the processor performance, especially in games like PUBG which require you to focus on enemies takes some time delay compared to phones with the high-end processor.  Overall, the gaming performance is good in day to day life with very minor heating observed during our review. The full-screen games mask the notch completely with no option to enable it for now. Asus might change this with a software update in the future.

This Max M2 like the Max M2 Pro and Max M1 Pro comes with stock android with minimum bloatware apps like Facebook, Instagram etc which you might anyways need. The phone has been launched with Android Oreo and is supposed to get the Android Pie update. The phone supports dual VoLTE so if your network provider has VoLTE in your area, then you can use it on both the sim.  There are fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism available and both are fast and accurate and much improved from the previous Asus phones. There is no IP rating on this phone so keep it safe from water and dust and they can damage the phone.

For the battery backup, Asus has provided a 4000 mAh battery which gives a backup of around 1 complete day with heavy usage and around 1.5 days for medium to low usage. There is a 10W charger bundled in the box which takes around 120 minutes for complete charging and the phone does not support fast charging. Despite a big battery, the phone only weighs 160gm and feels light in hand. In terms of accessories, there is a TPU case bundled in the box but no earphones.

If you are looking for a complete phone and have a budget of around 10000, then you can look to choose this phone as it offers a solid quality, decent processor and a good battery backup. You can also read about the Samsung M10 if you do not need a powerful processor but a phone with good looks. Honor 8C also offer similar specification and comes in a similar price range.

6. Oppo Realme C1

Oppo Realme C1 is one of the best 4g mobiles under 8000

Features

  • 2 GB RAM | 16 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 6.2 inch HP Plus 720p
  • Back Camera: 13MP + 2MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 8MP
  • 4230mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Diamond Red, Diamond Black Colors

Best Price ₹6999

Brief Review:

Oppo Realme C1 has been launched alongside the Realme 2 Pro just after a month of the launch of Realme 2. Realme C1 is basically a downgraded version of Realme 2 and comes at a very attractive price point of below 7k. C1 has a polycarbonate design and Realme has replaced the diamond cut design with a plain back with a glossy finish that looks good. Let us check the review and specifications of the latest sensation as a budget smartphone, the Realme C1.

Apart from a glossy finish, Realme has introduced a Notch display design in this price segment and this is the first by any company. Given the notch design, the phone has a big screen of 6.2 inches which has an HD Plus resolution. The phone looks decent and superb for an under 7k device. Redmi had recently launched the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A but none of them features a notch and Realme C1 has better design compared to them.

Coming to the processor, Realme has introduced a decently powerful Snapdragon 450 with 2GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. On the AnTuTu benchmark, the Realme C1 scores around 57000 which is ahead when compared to the Redmi 6A and Honor 7S at the same price point. The AnTutu score is also maximum seen yet in under 7000 smartphones. Here you can easily do all the daily tasks smoothly, you can even play heavy games at low graphics settings but you would face frame drops, lag or hang problem at higher graphics setting or heavy multitasking. Because of the low internal storage, Realme C1 comes with 256 GB of dedicated SD card along with dual sim operation.

On the camera, we have a dual sensor at the back with a 13MP f/2.2 primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. The camera shots are decently fine and we could not expect anything better here. The picture had good colour contrast and sharpness but we see noise in the photos in the low lighting conditions. On the front, the camera has been little downgraded from the Realme 2 from 8 MP to 5 MP sensor now. Here the images are good and well balanced but the portrait shots somewhat face the heat with not so proper edge detection. But overall, considering it only costs 6999, we will like to restrict complaining or raising our expectations from the best value for money smartphone.

Realme had also never compromised with the battery backup, here Realme C1 had astonished everyone with a 4230 mAh battery rating that is insane and can last for around 2 days with no charge in between. Even with some heavy usage, you should get a backup of 1.5 days easily. It has a micro USB port available for charging and does not support fast charging and you get a 10W charger inside the box. Realme C1 is way ahead in battery backup when compared to the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A which have a battery rating of 3000 mAh only.

Oppo Realme C1 runs on ColorOS 5.1 which is a custom skin based on Android Oreo 8.1 and comes with some third party apps preinstalled. The UI is same as seen on the Oppo branded smartphones and we must say it is not the best user interface and Realme has already received reviews from the community and might be working on an upgrade for the next smartphones.

Coming to the unlocking, Realme has done some cost-cutting on the fingerprint sensor for an extra hardware component as was on the Realme 1. The fingerprint sensor is missing but it supports the face unlocking feature which is super quick to unlock in a fraction of seconds. There is no IP rating on this phone and hence keep it protected from water and dust.

Overall, in this Oppo Realme C1, you get a stylish looking smartphone with a notch design, a good processor and camera for the price range, a massive battery but a support for only face unlocking. Certainly, as per our review of Oppo Realme C1, we find this smartphone as was the best phone under 7000.

Brief Review:

Honor has been very aggressive in the under 20000 smartphone range. They have launched Honor 9 Lite, Honor 7X, Honor 9i which have received great response from the users. Honor is now launching Honor 9N, which is a rebranded Honor 9i(2018) launched in China. It comes with a notch display and beautiful design and is a good smartphone under 15000. Let us look at the reviews, specifications and features of this beautiful phone.

Honor 9N comes with a 5.84-inch notch display with a Full HD Plus resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The display is a full view display having an aspect ratio of 19:9. In terms of design, it has a glass design and looks similar to the one seen Honor 9 Lite. The front has a notch and the back has a horizontal dual camera setup with a LED flash at the top and a fingerprint sensor. Honor has launched Honor 9N with a tagline of #ExtraOrdinaryBeauty and the design and looks truly upholds the statement. It is lightweight and easy to hold and operate with one hand.

On the performance side, Honor has once again used the in-house Kirin 659 processor which we have seen in all the midrange phones starting from Honor 9 Lite, Honor 9i (2017) and the Honor 7X. This smartphone has 3 GB of RAM with 32 GB of internal storage. We have seen the similar configuration in all the Honor phones in this price range and though Kirin 659 is not a powerhouse as Snapdragon 636 seen in Redmi Note 5 Pro but does handle multitasking with ease and one can easily go through all the daily tasks without any difficulty. But that Kirin 659 at the pricing of under 15000 does not raise the bar in the performance side when compared to the likes to Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max or the Mi A2 which has just launched. Honor 9N scores around 75000 on the Antutu Benchmark.

Coming to the camera, Honor 9N supports a dual rear camera setup with 13MP as the primary sensor and 2MP sensor as the secondary sensor with Dual tone LED flash and autofocus. The camera works fine with clear and crisp shots and good colour reproduction. The camera also supports face detection, portrait (bokeh) mode and HDR mode. The front camera is a 16MP shooter which is located inside the front notch and as expected clicks beautiful pictures and also supports portrait shots via software processing.

Honor 9N runs on EMUI 8.1 which is a custom skin based on the Android 8.1 Oreo and works smooth. They are some bloatware but Honor has well refined the EMUI over the years. There is a hybrid micro SD card slot to expand the memory up to 256 GB. Honor 9N supports both fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism and both of the methods work accurately and swiftly. Honor 9N does not carry any IP rating so keep it safe from the dust and water.  It has a battery rated at 3000 mAh which can keep the phone powered up for a day. You would need to charge it after a full day usage.

Honor 9N though has been launched as the rebranded version Honor 9i (2018) but in actual it is a more beautiful version of all the Honor midrange phones. It has a stunning looking notch and is Honor's first phone under 15000 with a notch. The dazzling looks are very attractive and if you are looking to buy a phone under 15000 with a notch display, Honor 9N has to be your top choice. If you are not much concerned with the high-end gaming or heavy usage, this phone would work through easily.

The 3GB 32GB variant is priced at Rs. 11999 and the 4GB 64GB variant is priced at Rs. 13999. Honor has added a 4GB 128GB variant as well which will cost you 17999. We think the middle variant 4GB 64B provides the best value for money.

Brief Review:

Xiaomi has come up with another phone in the under 10000-15000 segment. The Redmi Y1 which was launched last year as a selfie smartphone has received some significant upgrades in terms of internal hardware, cameras, and display. Let's take a look at the brief review of Redmi Y2.

Redmi Y2 comes with a 5.99-inch display of 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution. The display is bright and vivid with good color reproduction and viewing angles. The resolution is not Full HD so that's a bit disappointing but it is not a deal breaker. The bezel-less on the top and bottom have reduced so the overall size of the phone is similar to other 5.5 inches phones. The build quality of Redmi Y1 wasn't that great but Xiaomi has done a good job with Redmi Y2. The device feels good in the hand. The back is metal so it is a bit slippery but you do get a free transparent case in the box. It comes in 3 colors: Grey, Gold and Rose Gold. Our favorite color is Rose gold.

Inside the Redmi Y2, we have the same Snapdragon 625 chipset which we have seen on Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 5. Snapdragon 625 is a decent performer and very power efficient chipset so we don't have any complaints. The phone is available in 2 variants: 3GB RAM-32GB Storage and 4GB RAM-64GB Storage. If you are a heavy user and use a lot of apps and games then go for the 4GB-64GB variant. If your use only camera, social media apps etc then 3GB variant should be fine. The overall performance of the device is good and you won't face any lag during the day to day usage. Redmi Y2 scores around 70000 on Antutu benchmarks which is similar to Antutu score of other Snapdragon 625 devices like Redmi Note 5 and Mi A1.

Let's talk about camera now. Redmi Y2 is a camera-centric smartphone and have received a good upgrade in the camera department. There is a 12MP+5MP dual camera on the back. The camera is placed vertically just like it was on the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The 12MP camera is a color sensor and 5MP camera is a depth sensor which helps to take portrait mode shots with depth effect. The rear camera performance is good in both daylight and low light conditions. The pixel size is 1.25um which helps to improve the low light performance. Edge detection in portrait mode is good as well.

The selfie camera on the Redmi Y2 is a 16MP sensor with a front flash. The front flash is very useful in low light conditions. The front camera also has portrait mode and can take pictures with depth effect. In our initial tests, the front camera performance was good. Edge detection wasn't that great and you might see your hair getting blurred in some of the shots. The front camera has features like AI beauty which removes blemishes and makes you look beautiful. The front camera is also used for face unlock which is not that quick but still, performance is decent. If you don't like face unlock then there is a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. It is safe to say that Redmi Y2 is the best budget camera smartphone available in India under Rs. 10000.

Redmi Y2 comes with MIUI 9.5 out of the box which is a custom skin based on Android 8.1. We don't really like MIUI because it comes with a lot of bloatware and the UI isn't great either but you can change that with a launcher. If you like to use dual apps, second space etc then MIUI is great for you.

The battery inside the Redmi Y2 is 3080 mAh and would last for a day on single charge. It would have been great if Xiaomi has gone with a 4000 mAh battery like on Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. The charger inside the box is 5V, 2 Amps charger which will charge the device in around 2 hours.

It is a dual sim device and Xiaomi has added a dedicated MicroSD slot this time which is great. If 32GB or 64GB is not enough for you, you can slide in a MicroSD card to increase the storage by up to 128GB. Redmi Y2 is not waterproof or dustproof and doesn't have any IP rating so keep it away from water and mud.

The Redmi Y2 has been priced at 9999 for the 3GB-32GB variant and 12999 for 4GB-64GB variant. It is an Amazon India exclusive device. We think pricing is decent and you are getting good value for money. The price of the lower variant is same as Redmi Note 5. Redmi Y2 has better cameras and Redmi Note 5 has better battery and display. So go for Y2 is you are going to use the camera a lot. If you don't use the camera much then Note 5 or Realme 1 is a better option.

Brief Review:

Huawei has launched Honor 7A and Honor 7C which become the latest in line to Huawei’s budget offerings. Honor 7A features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels making a PPI of ~282. The smartphone is quite comfortable and feels a lot better in hand while usage. Huawei has put an 18:9 display in Its bid to get more people get this smartphone. There are some bezels on the sides and some bigger ones on the top and bottom. The display is 720p but is good enough for most of the tasks. The viewing angles are decent. Sunlight readability is not the best on Honor 7A.

Above the display are the front camera sensor, earpiece, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor. On the rear, there’s much anticipated dual camera setup which is not vertically stacked like every other smartphone, right now. The LED flash is included in the camera cutout which is kind of different from the rest. The circular fingerprint sensor sits at horizontal center just a few centimeters from the camera housing. On the bottom, we find a Micro-USB and a 3.5mm audio jack, accompanied by speaker grill, nothing fancy.

Honor 7A features Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 at Its core which has an octa-core CPU with 4x1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 and 4x1.1 GHz Cortex A53. To handle the graphics workload, Adreno 505 is on-chip as well, coupled with plush 3GB of RAM. In real life usage, the smartphone will be keeping up the pace quite easily but don’t expect serious multitasking and a lot of stuff going around together without some hiccups. Otherwise, the performance is super smooth for everyday usage. Adreno 505 does pretty good at most games but gets the system warm on heavy titles on the Play Store, so If you want to play lots of games, Honor 7A might not be the best choice. The 3GB of RAM does a good job in keeping the software experience fluid and responsive at all times. The device comes with 32GB of onboard storage which is expandable up to 256GB using MicroSD cards.

Like other Snapdragon 430 phones, the Honor 7A scores around 45000 on Antutu Benchmarks which is a decent score for phone in this price range.

Since no one is letting go of the dual camera craze, Honor 7A hits right on spot with dual camera setup sporting 13 MP + 2 MP, f/2.2 sensors with LED flash. For the love of selfies, we have an 8.0 MP, f/2.0 sensor up top of the display. The rear camera performance is good in outdoor well-lit conditions. Images look sharp with a good amount of details. Portrait/Bokeh effect also seems to work well. The camera performance indoors under low light conditions is average though which is expected from phones in this price range. There is no image stabilization so videos will be shaky.

The front camera also performs well in outdoor conditions. We weren’t expecting much from a budget camera like this one and clearly, Huawei is no mood of breaking the stereotypes. The camera performance is more or less equal to the competitors in the range where we see the likes of Xiaomi with some pretty average cameras, Nokia and Motorola are doing relatively better but not by a big difference.

Out of the box, Huawei Honor 7A will run on Android 8.0 Oreo with Huawei’s custom EMUI 8.0 on top. EMUI 8.0 has evolved a lot from being a gimmicky loaded skin to a refined, responsive and unobtrusive Android experience, there are still a lot of features you won’t ever use, hidden inside some UI clunks, thanks to past legacy but In all Its a stutter-free experience and RAM management is good as well, so we rate the software experience as good if not great. Since It is still EMUI, there are still unnecessary pre-installed apps which you can’t remove and It still doesn’t believe in minimalism and material design.

Honor 7A comes with a 3000mAH battery which should last a day in all scenarios but there is no sight of fast charging so we are kind of bummed here. Huawei’s SuperCharging tech would have been appreciated highly here but since these are budget grounds, we can’t blame them hard. The battery backup will be 1 day on medium usage and 1.5 days on light usage. There is a Micro-USB port for charging at the bottom of the phone. There are no stereo speakers, just a single one firing downwards which is loud enough. There is no special force with the 3.5mm jack so we don’t expect some out of line audio performance on Honor 7A. Moreover, the smartphone hasn’t been handed any IP rating so It would be safe to keep it away from liquids and dust.

Since we’ve used ‘budget’ all over the writing, Huawei Honor 7A is priced at ₹ 8,999 in India and is available exclusively on Flipkart. In terms of pricing, we don’t find It to be that aggressive but It is not bad either. There are a lot of good things in this smartphone and the price is justified.

Huawei has not been a giant in India despite their presence for quite some time in India, most of their revenue comes from the budget segment and they are not wrong to reinforce their biggest gainer with the top of the line features and trends in 2018. Huawei’s is certainly getting good at making complete smartphones and providing value for money. Honor 7A just exemplifies that.

Lenovo K8 Note 64GB is one of the best 4g mobiles under 8000

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 128 GB
  • 5.5 inch Full HD Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 13MP + 5MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 13MP
  • 4000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Gold Colors

Best Price ₹10990

Brief Review:

Lenovo K8 Note is the successor to K6 Note which was sold offline only. Lenovo has upgraded the processor and the camera of the device. The phone is made of metal and has a good build quality. The edges are curved which make it easy to hold.

The display on the Lenovo K8 Note is Full HD 1080p panel with good color reproduction and viewing angles. It is covered with 2.5D glass on the front which gives it a nice look.

The USP of the Lenovo K8 Note is the dual camera on the back. There are 13MP and 5MP sensors on the back and information from both camera sensors help to give a bokeh or depth effect to the images. The camera performs well under daylight conditions but under low light the camera performance is average. The camera on the front is 13MP which again performs well in daylight but no so under low light conditions.

Inside the Lenovo K8 Note, we have an Helio X23 processor which is a 10 core chipset. The processor is more powerful than Snapdragon 625 and 626 but it is not efficient so battery backup will be average at best. Another issue with the processor is that it tends to heat up while playing heavy games.

The Lenovo K8 Note scores around 95000 on Antutu benchmarks thanks to the powerful Helio X23 Chipset. This is around 1.5x of the Antutu score of Snapdragon 625 which is around 65000.

On the storage side, we have 2 variants of Lenovo K8 Note. The first variant comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and the second variant comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The price difference is just Rs 1000 so we recommend the 64GB 4GB variant.

The Lenovo K8 Note also has a dedicated MicroSD slot which can be used to increase the storage by 128GB. Lenovo has done a good job by avoiding the hybrid sim slot which limits the functionality of the device.

Lenovo K8 Note also has Dolby Atmos support. You can change the settings in Dolby app to change the bass and treble. It works pretty well so if you like to listen to music on your phone, you should definitely tweak the settings according to your preferences.

Overall the Lenovo K8 Note is a balanced device with a couple of negatives like average camera performance under low light and heating issues. At this price point, we think it offers good value for money.
