If you travel a lot, you know how frustrating it can be carrying different chargers for different devices. Plus, the laptop chargers are a bit bulky and often have a proprietary charging port. Manufacturers have been trying to solve that problem by providing USB Power Delivery on their devices. The motivation is to provide a single charging standard that can be used across USB devices. It makes things simple because you have to carry only one charger and it helps to reduce e-waste as well.

Most of the latest phones and laptops support USB Power Delivery(PD) but there are only a few USB PD chargers available in the market. AMX has recently introduced a 4 port charger that has 1 PD port and 3 USB ports. The Power delivery port can be used to charge the laptop, MacBook, iPhone, Pixel and other latest smartphones. The other 3 ports are conventional Type-A ports and you can normal Type-A to MicroUSB or Type C to charge your phone, smartwatches, bands, power banks, etc.

AMX XP60 Features and Specs:

The AMX XP60 is a 62W charger but that's the max combined power it can deliver via the PD and Type-A ports.

The PD port has a max power output of 45W. The modes supported are 5V 3A, 9V 3A, 12V 3A, 15V 3A, and 20V 2.25A. The smartphones will usually use the 5V 3A or 9V 3A mode while the laptops will use the other high voltage modes.

The 3 USB Type-A ports have a max output of 17W. The max one port can output is 2.4A at 5V. So, these ports don't have the 18W fast charging that most of the smartphones support but you can use the PD port if you need fast charging.

The USB PD devices talk to each other and negotiate on which mode they should use for charging. So, a smartphone won't take in 20V 2.25A input and laptops won't take 5V 3A input. Everything is automatic and helps in a blink as soon as you plug in the devices. If you are interested in knowing more about USB PD, take a look at this article from Android Authority.

AMX XP60 Design and Performance:

AMX XP60's build quality is great. The plastic outer body is solid and the weight distribution is decent. Design-wise, there is a flaw here. Instead of having a vertical design, AMX designed it horizontally so when you plug it in a power socket, its body is pressed against the power buttons. We reported this issue to the AMX team and they have acknowledged the problem and have informed us that they would be including an adapter inside the box with every XP60 device.

Here's the image of the adapter that would be included in the box.

Performance-wise, XP60 is a winner. If you have one of the latest smartphones and laptops, there's a good chance that they support USB PD. So all you need is the XP60 device and a USB Type C PD cable and you can charge your laptop and smartphone with the same device and cable. You need a Type A to Type C cable only if you want to charge both laptop and smartphone at the same time. Not carrying a separate laptop charger has been a big relief since we have started using the XP60.

The charging time of your laptop will depend on the battery capacity and the modes your phone or laptop supports. In our tests, we were able to charge our laptop fully in less than 2 hours using the PD port and the phone took around 1.5 hours to go from 5% to 100%.

While we are impressed with the performance, we do expect AMX to work on an upgrade with a new design and support for 65W PD using 20V 3.25A which would charge laptops even faster

AMX XP60: Should You Buy It?

As AMX is a new company, initially we were not really sure about this product. But after using it for a week, we were impressed by the ease of use and performance of the product. AMX's pricing is very attractive as well.

The XP60 standalone would cost you around Rs. 1200 only which is impressive considering that you are getting a 4 port charger with a combined output of 62W.

If you don't have a Type C PD cable, you can get the combo of XP60 + PD cable at around Rs. 2000 only. You can these from AMX's official website or Amazon.in.
