Best Camera Phones Under 15000 in India

Dual camera phones have been the craze in 2017 which continued in 2018 with improved performance and features. Apple iPhone 7 Plus started this trend with the portrait mode shots with its dual camera setup which was also capable of taking 2X zoom pictures without losing quality.

Now the dual camera phones are available in Rs.10000 - 20000 which we call as midrange phones and we have come up with a list of best camera phones under 15000 or 15k.

All these smartphones are capable of taking some excellent shots. Most of the phones have dual camera setup so if you want to take portrait shots/pictures with depth effect go for dual camera phones. This list can be seen as best dual camera phones under 15000 as well as we have included all the latest dual camera phones available in this segment. Phones like Vivo Y83, Realme 1 which were launched recently with bezel-less notch displays have been included in this list.

What else do you get on these best mobile phones under 15000?

Most of the phones listed have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage with latest processors like Snapdragon 636, Snapdragon 625 or Helio P10 or P22. This hardware is capable of handling multiple apps and games with ease. On the design side, you get a metal unibody design on most of these phones while some of them come with glass back. The display size is 5.5 or 6 inches in most cases. Those who like smaller screen size can go for Moto G5S Plus which is an excellent device and takes great pictures. The displays are of 18:9 or 19:9 aspect ratio with narrow bezels so even the 6-inch display size phones are not that large.

We have provided a brief review of all the smartphones with top features, specs, and ratings. Links to Online stores are provided with latest prices so that you can compare the prices to get the best deal.

Brief Review:

Realme has made a strong market in the under 10k smartphone and is looking to capture the attention of users having a budget of 10k to 20k. With Realme 2 Pro, Realme certainly looks to heat up the competition with an awesome list of specs and a practical smartphone. Here we review the Realme 2 Pro which comes in 3 variants. Let us discuss the specifications and features this Realme 2 Pro offers which will be a Flipkart exclusive smartphone.

Realme 2 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch display having the Full HD Plus resolution with the Full-screen display. The display is perfectly bright and the brightness is well maintained in the outdoor conditions. Watching videos or movies on this smartphone is appealing and provides a good experience. On the front, we have a waterdrop or also known as the teardrop notch which makes the phone look amazing, which results in an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The earpiece is available just above the notch.

Realme has worked well on the designing on the smartphones and this one is no different, however, they have not replicated the diamond cut design which was features on Realme 1 and the Realme 2. So the Realme 2 pro comes with a polycarbonate body and a perfect glass type shiny finish which will be available in three colors Black Sea, Blue Ocean, and Ice Lake. The box also bundles a TPU(Transparent) case for the smartphone protection.

Coming to the performance of this smartphone which would surely invite a jaw drop reaction, the Realme 2 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset and the base variant has a 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage. The smartphone scores around 1,33,000 on the Antutu Benchmark which clearly explains how powerful this smartphone is. In our usage of this phone as a primary phone, we played games, watched YouTube videos, listened to music and all other day to day usage like calling, messaging etc and we did not face any problem at all.

We also played heavy games like PUBG for instance and the phone was able to multitask and handle heavy stuff easily. The Realme 2 Pro comes with an inbuilt AI gaming accelerator which helps boosts the performance. Here you also get Dual sim slot and a dedicated SD card slot to expand the storage by 256 GB.

Finally on the camera side, Realme 2 Pro has left everyone stunned with a powerful dual camera set up at the back that does not disappoint you at all. On the specification side, the dual rear camera comes with a 16 MP f/1.7 aperture (Sony IMX 398) which is the primary sensor and a 2MP sensor which is the depth sensor and a LED flash. The camera clicks perfect images in both and low light conditions and we were really stunned by the beauty it delivers. The front camera is a 16MP sensor which comes with the AI beautify mode and recognizes the personal characteristics to give you the best photo. The rear camera takes excellent pictures and the front camera is not great as of now. We hope Realme fixes it with a software update.

Both the front and the rear camera on Realme 2 Pro can click portrait shot and the edge detection is perfect. The camera app comes with 5 Light mode namely the Film Light, Mono-Tone Light, Natural Light, Rim Light, Bi-Colour Light which captures and transforms the photos. The camera is also powered by AI that can recognize various scenes and modify the images to look based on contrast, colors and best exposures.

The Realme 2 Pro runs on Color OS 5.2 which is a custom skin based on the Android 8.1 and is the same as used on the Oppo branded smartphones. Here the experience is not the best as the UI is not very clean and there are some bloatware apps which is a compromise in this beautiful and perfect smartphone.

On the battery side, we have a 3500 mAh battery to power the smartphone, in our usage, the battery lasts justs above a day with medium type usage. The phone has a micro USB and does not bundle a fast charger. Also, there is no IP rating on this phone, so protect it from dust and water. For the unlocking of this smartphone, you get both fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism and both are accurate and very very fast which unlock the smartphone in the blink of an eye.

The Realme 2 Pro has 3 variants which are priced as mentioned below.

Variant (RAM - Internal Storage) Pricing (in Rs)
4GB - 64 GB 13,999
6GB - 64 GB 15,999
8GB - 128GB 17,999

To us, the pricing on this Realme 2 Pro looks super exciting, especially the limelight is 8 GB version smartphone has been launched under 20000 for the first time. Realme 2 Pro comes with a tagline of Max Power Max Style and it surely very well delivers on the same. Overall, with its brilliant specifications, features, the Realme 2 Pro is a midrange killer and certainly should be your top choice for a smartphone under 15000 to 20000.

Brief Review:

Nokia came back last year with Nokia 6 and launched plenty of devices after that. Overall response to Nokia smartphones has been decent. Now, Nokia has launched the successor of Nokia 6 which is Nokia 6.1 Plus. Nokia 6.1 Plus is a midrange smartphone priced around Rs. 15000 in India. Let's take a look at what it offers in this brief review.

Nokia is known for their excellent build quality and Nokia 6.1 Plus is not an exception. The phone is well built and feels very solid in hand. It weighs around 150 grams and the thickness is around 8mm. With excellent build, the design is gorgeous as well. The phone is covered with glass on both sides and looks very premium.

The display on the front is 5.8 inches notch display of 19:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. The display is bright and sharp with good viewing angles. Because of 5.8 inch display and thin bezels, the size of the smartphone is smaller compared to phones like Redmi Note 5 Pro. The size is perfect for you if you don't like big phones. You won't face any trouble while using it with one hand.

On the back, we have a fingerprint sensor and dual camera setup. The fingerprint sensor is accurate and quick. The dual camera setup on the back has a 16MP color sensor of f/2.0 aperture with 1um pixel size. Plus, there is a 5MP depth sensor which helps with edge detection to give bokeh effect in portrait mode pictures.

On the front, there is a 16MP single camera sensor which can also take portrait mode selfies. The camera performance is good in outdoor natural lighting conditions. The images look colorful with plenty of details. The portrait mode also works well with good edge detection. Similar is the case with front selfie camera. The camera performance under low light conditions is not great though. We hope Nokia fixes it with a software update.

Inside the Nokia 6.1 Plus, we have a Snapdragon 636 processor powering the device with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Snapdragon 636 is a very capable midrange processor with excellent performance. We have already seen it on phones like Redmi Note 5 and Asus Zenfone Max Pro. 4GB RAM + SD636 is a good configuration for a midrange smartphone. You won't notice any lag while using multiple apps or playing games. On the benchmark side, you will see a score of around 110000 to 115000 on Antutu benchmark.

64GB is a decent amount of storage. If you need more, you can use the MicroSD slot provided. Do note that it is hybrid slot and you won't be able to use the second sim if you are using a MicroSD Card.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus is an Android One smartphone and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. There is no bloatware at all. Stock android makes the overall experience very snappy with quick switching between apps. Because it is an Android One device, you can expect quick updates. Android P should arrive in a couple of months.

The battery inside the Nokia 6.1 Plus is an average one. The battery capacity is just 3060mAh and you can expect a day of backup with medium usage. If you are a heavy user, you might have to plug the device in the evening. The phone supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 but doesn't come with a fast charger inside the box. Buying a fast charger would be a good investment for heavy users.

Nokia 6.1 Plus isn't water or dust proof so there is no IP rating for it. The glass on the back and front makes it a bit slippery so add a case if you are one of those who tend to drop their phones a lot.

Nokia 6.1 Plus comes in 3 colors: Black, Blue, and White. If you ask us, which one is the best color then we would suggest you the Black version. The other 2 colors are great as well.

Overall, we love the Nokia 6.1 Plus. It has great design, excellent performance, and good cameras. The only negative point is the average battery backup but it is not a deal breaker. Earlier Nokia phones were a bit overpriced but this time Nokia has done well. The pricing of 15999 is really good and makes it one of the best phones in this segment.

Nokia 6.1 Plus is a Flipkart exclusive smartphone and it will be available from 30th August.

3. Mi A2

A2

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM
  • 6 inch Full HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 20MP+12MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 20MP
  • 3010mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Gold, Blue Colors

Best Price ₹16999

Brief Review:

Mi A2 is the successor of Mi A1 which was the first Android One smartphone from Xiaomi. Mi A2 is also an Android One phone and is priced little above 15000 in India. While there have been significant improvements in terms of chipset and camera performance, a lot of compromises have been made. Let's take a look at the brief review and find out whether you should buy it or not.

Mi A2 back design is similar to that of Redmi Note 5 Pro. The phone has a metal unibody design. Metal feels great in hand but it is slippery so having a case would be a good option. The dual camera setup is placed vertically at the corner and the fingerprint sensor is at the center. The antenna bands have moved closer to the top and bottom edges of the phone. The phone comes in 3 colors: Black, Blue, and Gold. If you are wondering which one is the best color of Mi A2 then our answer would be Black.

The display on the front is also similar to Redmi Note 5 Pro's display. The size is 5.99 inches with Full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is sharp and bright with good colors and viewing angles. Overall, the phones look good and feel comfortable in hand.

Let's talk about the camera which is the USP of this device. There is a 20MP+12MP dual camera setup on the back. Both 20MP and 12MP cameras are color sensors. We would have preferred a wide angle lens or a telephoto lens. The pixels are large and the aperture is f/1.75 which helps in low light photos. The camera performance of the rear camera is great. The pictures look great with plenty of details, natural colors and good dynamic range.

The front camera has a 20MP sensor and the performance is again excellent. The selfies look great with plenty of details. You can use the beautify mode to make your pictures look better. Plus, it supports portrait mode which detects edges properly and adds a natural looking blur. Excellent camera performance makes it one of the best camera phones under 20000.

The Mi A2 is powered by the powerful Snapdragon 660 chipset which coupled with 4GB of RAM can handle any task you throw at it. Whether you like to switch between tens of apps or you like to play heavy games like PUBG of Asphalt 9, this phone is going to handle it with ease. You won't notice any frame drop or lag. It is a great option for gamers as well.

On benchmarks side, you will see a stellar performance. On Antutu benchmarks, the Mi A2 scores around 135000 which is a great score for a phone priced in this range. On Geekbench, you will see a score of around 1600 on single core and 4600 on multicore.

The phone has 64GB of inbuilt storage and there is no MicroSD slot to increase the storage. Yes, no MicroSD slot. They could have easily put a hybird sim tray in there but they decided to go against it. So if you need extra space, you don't have any option to expand it.

Plus, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Why? Maybe Xiaomi was unable to find space for it or maybe they just want to follow the stupid trend of removing the headphone jack for no reason at all. When IP68 rated smartphones like LG G7 can have the headphone jack then why can't Mi A2? Removal of the headphone jack and MicroSD slot from Mi A2 are couple of the things that we hate most.

Inside the Mi A2, there is a 3010mAh battery. The device would last for a day on medium usage. With heavy usage, you might need to charge it in the evening. Battery performance is just average here. The phone does support Quick Charge 4.0 which should charge your device very quickly but the fast charging brick is not included in the box and you need to buy it separately. It comes with the normal 5V 2A charge in the box.

The device is running on stock Android Oreo. It is an Android One device so you will get software updates very quickly. The latest Android P should arrive in a couple of months. There is very little bloatware on the device which makes multitasking a breeze. RAM management is good as well.

So should you buy Mi A2? Depends on what you want and what you can live without. If you need excellent camera performance, powerful chipset and stock android and you can live without a headphone jack, a MicroSD slot and average battery backup, then go for it.

If you need a good battery backup, a headphone jack and MicroSD slot with little lower camera performance then Redmi Note 5 Pro or Asus Zenfone Max Pro 6GB are better options.

Brief Review:

Honor has been very aggressive in the under 20000 smartphone range. They have launched Honor 9 Lite, Honor 7X, Honor 9i which have received great response from the users. Honor is now launching Honor 9N, which is a rebranded Honor 9i(2018) launched in China. It comes with a notch display and beautiful design and is a good smartphone under 15000. Let us look at the reviews, specifications and features of this beautiful phone.

Honor 9N comes with a 5.84-inch notch display with a Full HD Plus resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The display is a full view display having an aspect ratio of 19:9. In terms of design, it has a glass design and looks similar to the one seen Honor 9 Lite. The front has a notch and the back has a horizontal dual camera setup with a LED flash at the top and a fingerprint sensor. Honor has launched Honor 9N with a tagline of #ExtraOrdinaryBeauty and the design and looks truly upholds the statement. It is lightweight and easy to hold and operate with one hand.

On the performance side, Honor has once again used the in-house Kirin 659 processor which we have seen in all the midrange phones starting from Honor 9 Lite, Honor 9i (2017) and the Honor 7X. This smartphone has 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage. We have seen the similar configuration in all the Honor phones in this price range and though Kirin 659 is not a powerhouse as Snapdragon 636 seen in Redmi Note 5 Pro but does handle multitasking with ease and one can easily go through all the daily tasks without any difficulty. But that Kirin 659 at the pricing of under 15000 does not raise the bar in the performance side when compared to the likes to Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max or the Mi A2 which has just launched. Honor 9N scores around 75000 on the Antutu Benchmark.

Coming to the camera, Honor 9N supports a dual rear camera setup with 13MP as the primary sensor and 2MP sensor as the secondary sensor with Dual tone LED flash and autofocus. The camera works fine with clear and crisp shots and good colour reproduction. The camera also supports face detection, portrait (bokeh) mode and HDR mode. The front camera is a 16MP shooter which is located inside the front notch and as expected clicks beautiful pictures and also supports portrait shots via software processing.

Honor 9N runs on EMUI 8.1 which is a custom skin based on the Android 8.1 Oreo and works smooth. They are some bloatware but Honor has well refined the EMUI over the years. There is a hybrid micro SD card slot to expand the memory up to 256 GB. Honor 9N supports both fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism and both of the methods work accurately and swiftly. Honor 9N does not carry any IP rating so keep it safe from the dust and water.  It has a battery rated at 3000 mAh which can keep the phone powered up for a day. You would need to charge it after a full day usage.

Honor 9N though has been launched as the rebranded version Honor 9i (2018) but in actual it is a more beautiful version of all the Honor midrange phones. It has a stunning looking notch and is Honor's first phone under 15000 with a notch. The dazzling looks are very attractive and if you are looking to buy a phone under 15000 with a notch display, Honor 9N has to be your top choice. If you are not much concerned with the high-end gaming or heavy usage, this phone would work through easily.

The 3GB 32GB variant is priced at Rs. 11999 and the 4GB 64GB variant is priced at Rs. 13999. Honor has added a 4GB 128GB variant as well which will cost you 17999. We think the middle variant 4GB 64B provides the best value for money.

Brief Review:

Samsung doesn’t really trust in value for money and is quite reliant on Its loyal fanbase across the subcontinent. For people, who just can’t get enough of Samsung, the company has been steady albeit slowly trickling down features from Its star-of-the-arena flagships. So, Samsung has been quietly upgrading Its mid-segment and ‘budget’ arsenal with top of the line, 2018-grade features namely face unlock, minimal bezels and some more minor add-ons.

After some success with the A and the J series of smartphones, Samsung is looking to up Its On lineup with the latest trends and Samsung Galaxy On6 becomes the first smartphone to receive the 2018 treatment. Let’s find out what all Samsung has packed in there to delight the customers. Let us look at point by point review of the Samsung Galaxy On6 features and specifications.

Talking about the design and build quality of Samsung Galaxy On6, iconic Samsung design thrills could be well sensed here with a tall display, slightly rounded-more squarish feel. The smartphone looks great, especially that blue shade but when you hold It you know It that Its built of plastic with no trace of metal or the aluminium frame you’ve come to expect of upper budget range smartphones. That doesn’t take away the fact that the smartphone looks nice and feels solid.

It is fairly slim at 8.2mm and weighs only 154 grams which are nice numbers for a comfortable use. On the front, you’ll find the touted ‘Infinity’ display which is just Samsung teasing you with Its toned version of edge to edge displays, not curved and with some bezels up top and bottom. The design is not exactly surprising for Samsung smartphones. At the back we find a single sensor based camera setup sitting at the centre with a flash and fingerprint sensor and then there is the same silver Samsung branding. So, to sum It up - Samsung Galaxy On6 is not exactly new on the design front and looks like most other Samsung smartphones, the new is the display which now goes to the edges of the smartphone. Its solid but not metal solid and feels good in the hand.

On the display side of the Galaxy On6, it has a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 720 x 1480 pixel resolution at an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. That makes up ~294 PPI on pixel density and while the display isn’t really at the top with other smartphones in resolution, Its really nice display credits to Samsung’s AMOLED panel. The contrast levels are great since Its AMOLED, the colours are punchy and brightness is in plenty. It is a great show affair and we think you’ll share this opinion.

Samsung phones have not been the best multitasking machines, even in 2018, when other phones are raking in with the best processors. But still, Samsung has been able to crack its fan base audience very well.  This is where Samsung ‘budget’ and most of Its mid-range devices seem to slack and this time Its no different. Samsung Galaxy On6 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7870, which is basically composed of eight Cortex A53s clocked at 1.6GHz. On the graphical processing, On6 has got Mali-T830 MP1. Now, this configuration is not really even a close match for other smartphones in the range packing the best of the crop Snapdragon 636.

Don’t get us wrong, the smartphone packs enough to get you done through basic everyday usage- checking emails, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and some casual gaming but as things start to get serious you start seeing frame drops, stutters and lags. To consolidate multi-tasking, there is 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is on par with the pricing. So, If you expect serious performance from your smartphone Samsung Galaxy On6 can be a disappointment but for normal, casual usage, Its nothing bad. It scores around 47000 on the Antutu Benchmark which is again not the best but if you are a Samsung love but not a performance freak. Samsung Galaxy On6 would not disappoint you.  It has a dedicated microSD card slot to expand the storage by upto 256 GB which is a good addon point from Samsung.

The camera has been one of the favourites of Samsung and comes with a long-standing reputation. They have some of the best cameras in the range and we are delighted to give a nod to that here as well. Samsung Galaxy On6 has a 13 MP (f/1.9, 28mm) sensor with AF and LED flash. So no dual sensors but that isn’t bad news for the people looking to get background blur as Samsung has equipped the smartphone with software-based bokeh tricks which don’t go well all the time but you can expect them to be almost close to other smartphones in the range with dual sensors.

Coming to image quality, the camera takes great shots with an abundance of detail at daylight, the exposure and the white balance hits on the spot. Though, the Samsung style saturated colours and sharpening can be seen. The camera holds its ground gracefully in low-light conditions as well, the shots are not awesome but impressive for a budget aimed device, which can’t be said for most other smartphones in the range. On the front, there is an 8 MP, a f/1.9 sensor with LED flash, again ready to make your selfies shine even in low-lights and It works really great, so If you want to keep your self-fame strong - On6 is a great choice.

Let’s talk about the software - Samsung’s Experience UI 9.0 can be seen on top of Android 8.0 Oreo. Now, the experience is snappy and responsive but the minimal and uncluttered appeal Samsung gained with this new UI theming is slowly fading away with tons of bloatware and redundant apps. So, If you seek a clean, neat performant software experience Samsung won’t be the apt choice but it does have some nifty additions like the bike mode and others which are really practical.

Samsung Galaxy On6 is powered by a 3000mAh which is a decent performer and can get you through the day on normal usage but If you like to heat things up a charger would be essential to carry around. So the shocker comes as there is no fast charging support or USB-C. There is no IP rating as well which we usually expect from Samsung, so would be wise to keep It distant from water. Except that, there is Samsung Face Unlock which works decently - it is not insanely fast but gets the job done and for all the faster requirements there is the fingerprint scanner at the back.

The smartphone is out there for you to buy on Flipkart. The pricing puts it in the den of budget lions like Asus Zenfone Max M1 and of course Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. The smartphone is available in two colour options- Blue and Black, Blue stands as out as the favourite.

After some success with the A and the J series of smartphones, Samsung is looking to strengthen ita base with its J series lineup with the latest trends and Samsung Galaxy J6 becomes the first smartphone to receive the 2018 treatment. Let’s find out what all Samsung has packed in there to delight the customers. Let us look at point by point review of the Samsung Galaxy J6 features and specifications.

Talking about the design and build quality of Samsung Galaxy J6, iconic Samsung design thrills could be well sensed here with a tall display, slightly rounded-more squarish feel.

So, to sum It up - Samsung Galaxy J6 is not exactly new on the design front and looks like most other Samsung smartphones, the new is the display which now goes to the edges of the smartphone. Its solid but not metal solid and feels good in the hand.

On the display side of the Galaxy J6, it has a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 720 x 1480 pixel resolution at an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

Samsung Galaxy J6 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7870, which is basically composed of eight Cortex A53s clocked at 1.6GHz. On the graphical processing, J6 has got Mali-T830 MP1.

So, If you expect serious performance from your smartphone Samsung Galaxy J6 can be a disappointment but for normal, casual usage, Its nothing bad. It scores around 47000 on the Antutu Benchmark which is again not the best but if you are a Samsung love but not a performance freak. Samsung Galaxy J6 would not disappoint you.

Samsung Galaxy J6 has a 13 MP (f/1.9, 28mm) sensor with AF and LED flash.

On the front, there is an 8 MP, a f/1.9 sensor with LED flash, again ready to make your selfies shine even in low-lights and It works really great, so If you want to keep your self-fame strong - J6 is a great choice.

Samsung Galaxy J6 is powered by a 3000mAh which is a decent performer and can get you through the day on normal usage but If you like to heat things up a charger would be essential to carry around.

Brief Review:

Realme 1 is an Oppo branded smartphone which comes with a very attractive pricing and features. This phone will be sold exclusively via Amazon and if you want to grow above the likes of Xiaomi, this phone can totally fill the gap. Let us find out what all it holds in this review.

From the design perspective, Realme 1 has a 6 inch Full HD Plus display with a bezel-less display and 18:9 aspect ratio. The display quality is amazing with perfect colour reproduction and clarity. On the back, it has a glass finish with glossy effect and a diamond cut pattern (as seen on the Oppo F7 and Oppo A83) that looks completely beautiful but is also a bit of a fingerprint magnet. On the design front, this is a great looking smartphone.

Let us now talk about the performance, this Realme 1 from Oppo uses a very powerful processor Helio P60 from MediaTek that scores around 135000 on the Antutu Benchmark. This score indicates the Helio P60 powering the Oppo Realme 1 beats the likes of Redmi Note 5 Pro which is powered by Snapdragon 636. The Antutu score depicts the performance of the phone and with our usage we found the phone to be replicating the same. It gave a powerful performance with not even a slightest of lag or issue with any sort of multitasking.

In the Camera department, Realme 1 comes with a single rear sensor of 13MP with LED flash and an 8 MP sensor on the front. The rear camera images have a good amount of details but when the images are zoomed in, there is a bit of noise that can be seen. The Realme 1 uses AI and beautification mode to enhance the images. On the front camera, we again have the option of bokeh effect, the image quality is good with sharp colours and clarity. Both the rear and the front camera features AR stickers.  Comparing the camera performance, the Redmi Note 5 Pro camera absolutely stands out in both rear and front camera with punchier details and better clarity but Oppo Realme 1 camera is much better than the Redmi Note 5.

This smartphone uses Color OS 5.0 as its operating system which is based on Android 8.1. This is the same operating system version seen on oppo F7. There is very little bloatware and comes with some much-needed features that ease the use of your phone.

Oppo Realme 1 comes with face unlocking using the front camera but does not have a fingerprint sensor. Face unlocking is becoming more popular nowadays with most of the smartphone featuring it and users have been comfortable in using it. So the removal of fingerprint sensor should not be a roadblock for this phone but is a move from Oppo to cut down the cost and offer a great price. It is a dual sim phone with a dedicated SD Card slot that can be expanded up to 256 GB.  It also has a 3.5 mm headphone jack but no Type C port.

This phone has a battery of 3410 mAH which can easily last for a day with normal usage. Oppo claims that the phone has AI battery management features which learns as per the usage beahiour and shuts down the background apps to enhance the battery backup. Realme 1 does not support fast charging and will take about 130-150 minutes for a full charge. This smartphone from Oppo weighs only 155 gm and feels comfortable in hand. There is no IP rating on Realme 1 so you will have to keep the phone safe from dust and water.

Let us now talk about the pricing, this smartphone from Oppo comes in 3 variants of 3GB/32GB variant priced at Rs 8999, 4GB/64GB variant priced at Rs 10999, 6GB/128GB variant priced at Rs 13999. The pricing as per specification this phone offers is very competitive and holds the mettle to rake in very good sales and demand.

This Oppo Realme 1 is a powerful beast and the variant are a great value for money. It has perfect looks, performance and a decent camera for the price range. If you have a budget of under 10000 or under 12000, then buying the Oppo Realme 1 makes a lot of sense as you get the same processor(in 3GB and 4GB model) and features which actually stands out when compared with any other phone in the price range of 10000.

If you are looking on this phone with a perspective of the camera, then it is a bit of disappointment, especially when comparing the 6GB model priced similarly with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, 4 GB model having a top-notch camera quality.  But on the other side, if the camera is not your topmost priority but you are looking for a power house, then the 6GB model at the pricing of 13999 can happily suffice your requirements.

Brief Review:

Asus has partnered with Flipkart to launch exclusive smartphones for next 3 years. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is the first smartphone to be launched under the partnership. The Zenfone Max Pro M1 has specs similar to Redmi Note 5 Pro which has been doing very well in the Indian market. Let's take a look at the brief review of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.

Below is an overview of Zenfone Max Pro 6GB RAM variant. If you are interested to know more about this phone take a look at our in-depth review of Asus Zenfone Max Pro.

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a 5.99-inch display with Full HD+ resolution. The display has 450 nits brightness and is very colourful and vivid. The viewing angles are good as well. The display is covered with a 2.5D glass which gives it a premium look. Asus has reduced the bezels on the top and bottom so the overall size of the phone is still same as a 5.5-inch device. The design is bit boring though. You get metal unibody design so nothing special or new here. The phone weighs 180 grams which is surprising considering the massive 5000 mah battery it carries. Overall, the phone feels good in the hand.

Let's talk about the battery which is the USP of this device. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a large 5000 mah battery which will provide a battery backup of 2 to 3 days on a single charge. If you hate charging your phone every day then you are going to love Max Pro M1. Asus claims that it can run Youtube for 20 hours. The phone comes with a 10-watt charger and it charging time is expected to be little less than 3 hours. The charging time is decent considering the large battery size.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a dual 16MP + 5MP rear camera with a 1.12-micron pixel size for better low light performance. The camera performance is good under daylight outdoor conditions. The pictures look colorful with a good amount of details. The camera can take portrait mode pictures as well. In our initial tests, the bokeh effect looked good with proper edge detection. The rear camera can also record 4K videos. Asus claims that this is the best camera in class.

The selfie camera on the Zenfone Max Pro M1 is a 16MP shooter with a LED flash. The front camera is a great performer in both indoor and outdoor lighting.

The chipset inside the Zenfone Max Pro M1 is Snapdragon 636 which was launched globally with Redmi Note 5 Pro. The SD636 chipset is very powerful and can handle any task you throw at it. Using multiple apps and games is going to be a breeze. Thanks to the powerful chipset, Zenfone Max Pro M1 scores around 116000 on the Antutu Benchmarks which is a bit higher than the score of Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Asus is taking audio quality very seriously as well. There is a Maxxbox which amplifies the sound by 2X. For audio via 3.5 mm jack, Asus has added an NXP audio chipset which improves the sound quality. Sound quality is usually not given importance in the mid-range devices so it is good to see Asus doing something different here to improve the user experience.

On Software side, you get pure Android Oreo on Zenfone Max Pro M1. This is a great step from Asus. There is almost no bloatware on the device. Asus promises to provide next 2 big Android updates as well. So you will get Android P and Android Q

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes in 2 variants: 32GB storage and 3GB RAM variant would cost your Rs. 10999 and 64GB - 4GB variant will cost you 12999 only. This is excellent pricing from Asus. Asus has used LPDDR4X RAM which should improve the overall experience. If you are a heavy user then go for the 4GB RAM variant as the extra 1 gig of RAM should help a lot in multi-tasking. The MicroSD slot is dedicated so you can use 2 sim cards with a MicroSD card. The 6GB RAM variant comes with better front and back camera setup and is priced at 14999.

Overall, we think Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is an impressive device. It comes with the latest display, powerful chipset, decent cameras, pure Android. Multitasking is great and the battery lasts for 2 days. It is clearly one of the best phones in this price range.

Brief Review:

Xiaomi has grown tremendously over last 2 years and disrupted the Smartphone Market to become the leader. This is credited to the success of Redmi 4, Redmi 4A and Redmi Note 4 which were bestsellers last year.  On 14th Feb, Xiaomi has launched Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in India and is set to break and shake the industry again. Check out Redmi Note 5 here.

Redmi Note 5 comes with a 5.99-inch Bezelless(18:9) display which looks beautiful and marks the entry of Xiaomi in bezel-less phones in the budget segment. The infinity display has a resolution of 1080p Full HD Plus which good viewing angles and vibrant and punchier colors. Note 5 Pro has a metal unibody design and a very strong build quality, something inspired by the Redmi Note 4.

The display size, though, has increased to 5.99 inches, the size of the device is almost same as other 5.5 inch devices as Xiaomi has reduced the bezels. So if you are using a 5.5-inch device, you won't find any difficulty operating with Redmi 5 Pro. With no bezels, the navigation buttons move to On-Screen buttons.

On the Camera side, the smartphone does a wonderful job, it comes with a Dual Rear Camera with a Sony12MP sensor with f2.2 aperture and a Samsung 5MP sensor with f2.0 aperture. These 2 lenses on the back are stacked vertically, similar to something seen in iPhone X. The dual camera can take excellent portrait mode pictures with bokeh effect. Performance is similar to what we saw on Mi A1.

On the Front Camera, we have a special selfie-focused Sony IMX376 sensor, with a resolution of 20MP and f2.0 aperture. It is a great camera for selfies lovers. There is flash on the front side so low light selfies also look decent. Do note that the front camera is capable of taking portrait mode selfies as well with bokeh effect. During our initial test, the selfies came out sharp. The portrait mode worked well with good edge detection and blur effect. We think Redmi 5 Pro is probably the best selfie phone from Xiaomi.

Let's talk about video recording now. Redmi Note series has been weak with video recording as there was no stabilization available. But things have changed now and Redmi Note 5 Pro has EIS(Electronic Stabilization) so the videos won't be shaky and will look much better than other Redmi Series smartphones. In our initial tests, the videos looked good and stabilization also worked well. There's no option to record 4K videos so that a negative.

The camera on both front and rear does a brilliant job overall and you won't have any complaints given the price point at which Xiaomi offers all these features. This Camera performance of Redmi Note 5 Pro has a lot of improvements compared to Redmi Note 4(2017 Best Selling Smartphone) or the Redmi Note 5. Camera lovers won't be disappointed with Redmi Note 5's performance.

This budget beast gets a big boost in the processor department and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 which has an Antutu Score of around 1,10,000. Redmi Note 4 comes with Snapdragon 625 which scores around 65000 on Antutu benchmark. So by this comparison, the Note 5 Pro has 70-80% more processing power.

It comes in two variants, one with 4GB RAM and other with 6GB of RAM clubbed with 64 GB of internal memory in both the variants, assuring of a power-packed performance with Smooth Multitasking and no lag or delay even with the higher end games. Xiaomi has used DDR4 RAM here which is a great thing because we don't really see DDR4 in budget phones. Only the flagship phones are using DDR4 as of now.

The back of Redmi Note 5 Pro has a curved back making it easier to hold and grip. There is a 2.5D gorilla glass on the display. With a strong build quality, great looks, this Note 5 Pro certainly feels nice in hand. Xiaomi has added a translucent silicon case in the box which fits the phone very nicely. Thumbs up to Xiaomi for adding a free case.

Redmi Note 5 Pro, comes with a fingerprint sensor that is quick in unlocking your phone. Xiaomi has added the face unlock feature in the first update. In our initial tests, the face unlock has been working great. It is quick and unlocks the phone in less than a second. Plus, it works even when your phone is about at waist height and you are looking at it. So, you can just take your phone out of pocket and look at it, it will unlock. You don't need to lift the phone to face height to unlock it. We liked the speed and accuracy of the Xiaomi's face lock. Also, it didn't work when eyes were closed so you don't have to worry about someone unlocking your phone when you are sleeping.

The Redmi Note 5 is not water resistant or dust proof as it does not have any IP rating.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is running on latest MIUI 9 which is based on Android Nougat 7.1.2,  which will surely be upgraded to Android Oreo in the near future. Those who love stock android won't like the MIUI interface so just go for Nova Launcher.

Still not able to hold what all this smartphone offer. Hold Tight. Apart from raking in the best features in all the departments, This Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a big 4000mAH which can easily last of 1.5 - 2 days in case of normal usage, given it comes with a power efficient processor. In first few days of use, we got 7 to 8 hours of screen on time which is excellent for a large 6 inch display phone with a powerful processor.

Our charging tests are still in progress and we will add results here soon.

With ranking high in this department as well, Redmi Note 5 Pro, does not leave any point that can be strictly negative towards it.

Overall, Redmi Note 5 Pro is a great value for money smartphone which looks decent and performs well. If your budget is around 15k then go for it.

Brief Review:

Moto G5S Plus is the updated version of Moto G5 Plus which was launched a few months ago. Things that have changed are the display size, camera, and storage.

G5 Plus had a 5.2-inch display and G5S Plus has a 5.5-inch display panel. Resolution is same at 1080p Full HD. The display is sharp and vivid and viewing angles are good. There was a 12MP camera on the back before but now we have 13MP + 13MP dual camera setup which helps to give bokeh effect to the pictures. Plus, you can change the background of an object in the picture using inbuilt features. Motorola has done a great job at integrating these features directly into the camera app of Moto G5S Plus.

On the front, we have an 8MP camera with flash. Front flash is a great addition for selfie lovers and should help in improving quality in low light conditions. Overall both camera perform really well and it is safe to say that Moto G5S Plus offers best camera experience in this segment. On the storage side, we have 64GB internal storage now which was 32GB before in the G5 Plus.

The processor is same Snapdragon 625 with 4GB of RAM. The hardware is good and G5S Plus is able to handle heavy games easily so it is a good mid range option for gamers as well.

The build quality has improved. Previously the sides of Moto G5 Plus were plastic but now it is all metal. The phone feels very solid in hand and has a premium look. The battery has been kept the same at 3000mAh. You should get a day of backup with a single charge. Moto G5S Plus comes with a fast charger so battery backup should not be a problem.

With these improvements, Moto G5S Plus has become a very solid competitor in the mid range segment. G5 Plus was launched at Rs 16,999 but the improved G5S Plus has been priced at Rs 15,999 at launch which is excellent pricing.

Mi A1 is another good option in this range which can take even better pictures. See our blog post: Comparison of Moto G5S Plus and Mi A1 Plus
