Brief Review:

Samsung had mainly focused its sale for its flagships. However, we saw a steep change in both its offering and strategy with their mobile sales when the M series arrived that provided huge value for the buck that you spent. Samsung has been offering phones in their A series since 2014. The A series mainly focus on offering some of the features that are seen in only the upper flagship models. This makes the A series an upper mid-range offering. The 2019 A series aims at hitting the perfect balance between price and features.

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy M30, this Galaxy A30 features more or less the same plastic back but a perfectly polished to give it a glass look. This is not necessarily a bad thing as it provides great ergonomics for the users to hold their device, It has the same Infinity-U notched Super AMOLED display which is 6.4 inch at FHD+ resolution. The total resolution is 2340 x 1080 pixels giving the A30 an overall 400+ ppi of density. What this basically converts to great media consumption with rich and punchy colors.

Coming to what is powering this Galaxy A30, we again have the same in-house built Exynos 7904 from Samsung. And this processor has proven its ground as a very capable contender as it was used before in the M20 and M30 too. There is really not much to complain about the performance side all thanks to the Exynos 7904. The Exynos 7904 is not the best processor available at this price range but however gets the job done. It is basically is a combination of 2 cortex A-73 clocked at 1.8 GHz. and 6 cortex A-53 clocked at 1.6 GHz. This phone has an AnTuTu score of 1,08,000. This is not the absolute best but like we said it gets the job done.

There is a 4GB RAM and 64 GB storage available on the phone which has a dedicated SD card slot to expand the memory to 512 GB with proper dual sim usage.

Let us now go to the camera review of Galaxy A30, It has a primary rear camera with a 16MP F1.7 lens and 5MP F2.2 ultra-wide lens and that’s it. The selfie camera upfront is a 16MP f2.0 sensor. The camera captures clear and sharp images with good contrast and color reproduction. The camera has been a strong department for Samsung always and it goes on well with this phone. The low light shots also have good details and the portrait shots are spot on in detecting the edges and blurring the background very well. Additionally, you get the capability to click ultra wide shots. Overall the camera works great and you will be able to capture good crisp moments with this camera.

The A30 also runs on the latest Android 9 pie with One UI on top. A lot of the experience that the users would be receiving would mainly be from One UI. One UI is basically the pinnacle of evolution of Samsung’s over the year refinements and what you're left with is much-improved UI with great features.

Coming to the battery, Galaxy A30 has a battery rated at 4000 mAh which provides a backup for a full day easily. It has a fast charger and a USB Type C port for charging. The phone feels lightweight in hand and only weighs 163 gm. Though there is no official confirmation however this article from GSMArena claims that the Samsung Galaxy A30 comes with an IP68 rating so it is water and dust proof.

Samsung has brought M series and A series to target the market of under 10k and 20k and this A30 does a decent job overall with a strong camera performance, good processor, dedicated SD card slot and an improved UI. For a price point of 17000, this is a very welcome phone from Samsung given we saw Samsung A6 and A6 Plus being launched with the pricing of around 20k and a specification of an under 10k smartphone. With this revamp, Samsung has up its ante to take on the budget segment.

Samsung A30 is available in blue and black colors and is available on Flipkart and Amazon.

Brief Review:

Samsung isn't really known for making value for money phones and that's why they have been having a tough time in India. Brands like Redmi, Realme, Motorola, Oppo, and Vivo have flooded the market with plenty of good phones at great prices and Samsung has lost top spot as well. Samsung Galaxy M10 and M20 are here to change that trend and look very impressive smartphones in the budget segment. Let's take a look at what M20 offers.

Both M10 and M20 have a very similar design. The only major change you will see is that M20 has a fingerprint sensor on the back and the display of M20 is a bit larger than M10's display. The phone has a polycarbonate build with a glossy back which looks good but gets smudged easily. The display on the front has a small notch. Samsung calls it an Infinity V display. The front camera is placed inside the notch and the earpiece is above the notch. The bezels all around are thin but the chin is narrow as well which means the screen to body ratio is more than 90%.

The display resolution is Full HD 1080. It is not an AMOLED panel but still, it is a beautiful and sharp display with good colors and viewing angles. Overall, this is nice looking smartphone with a beautiful display under 15000 from Samsung.

The battery inside the phone is massive 5000 mAh and the charger that comes with the phone is a 15W fast charger. The battery backup of the phone is excellent and it will last for around 2 days with medium usage and more with light usage. The fast charger works well and charges the phone fully is less than 2 hours 30 minutes which is excellent considering the battery capacity. The phone weighs 186 grams which is a decent weight and is easy to hold.

The Samsung M10 is powered by Exynos 7904 1.8GHz octa-core chipset. It is not the best you would find in this range but still it is a decent chipset which handles multitasking well. The gaming performance isn't that great though. There are 2 variants of Samsung M20: 3GB RAM 32GB Storage and 4GB RAM 64GB storage. Those who are going to install a lot of apps and play games should go for the 4GB 64GB variant of M20.

The Samsung M20 runs on Samsungs Experience UI which is a skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. There is a good amount of bloatware. The UI is clean and easy to use though. The performance of M20 on benchmarks is decent as well. It scores a bit above 100000 on Antutu benchmarks.

On the camera side, we have a surprise from Samsung. The rear camera is a dual setup of 13MP (f/1.9) + 5MP (f/2.2 ultra-wide) which is the same we saw on M10. While most companies just throw in a useless 2MP depth sensor as a secondary camera, Samsung has added an ultra wide angle lens which can be very useful. The primary sensor is also a good one and has an f/1.9 aperture which helps in low light shots. The camera on the front is an 8MP f/2.0 sensor. Both front and rear camera performance are decent for an under 15000 smartphone but not the best. The pictures taken in daylight look nice with good amount of details. The portrait mode pictures also look decent. If you need a phone with a great selfie camera, Realme U1 should be your choice.

The phone comes with a headphone jack and a triple slot sim tray so you can use 2 VOLTE sims simultaneously with a MicroSD card. Dedicated MicroSD slot is something we love because it gives flexibility to the user to increase storage without compromising with the dual sim functionality of the phone.

Overall, Samsung M20 is an excellent value for money smartphone and one of the best phones under 15000 you can buy. Great design, nice display, excellent battery, good cameras make it a great allrounder phone. If your usage is light, you can go for the 3-32GB variant which is priced a bit above 10000 and heavy users should go for the 4-64GB variant. Other good options in this range include Realme 2 Pro, Redmi Note 6 Pro, and Moto One Power

3. Huawei Y9

Y9

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 400 GB
  • 6.5 inch Full HD Plus Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 13MP + 2MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 16MP + 2MP Dual Camera
  • 4000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Sapphire Blue Colors

Best Price ₹15990

Brief Review:

Huawei has been trying to make a mark in the Indian market and has launched some great phones but failed to match the expectations vs pricing. Will the latest Huawei Y9 2019 be able to impress the users? Let us find it out in the brief review.

Y9 comes with a big 6.5 inch Full HD Plus display which has proper colors and sharpness. The big screen makes it attractive for watching videos or playing games. The back of the phone has a glossy finish and is built of polycarbonate material. The back attracts some smudges but the beautiful looks still remain intact. It comes in Black and Sapphire Blue colors and to us, the Sapphire Blue looks unique and better of the two. In the looks and design, the phone does a good job. Do make sure you use a back cover and a tempered glass for the screen to protect the damage if the phone accidentally falls.

For the processor, Huawei which is the parent company of the Honor brand has focussed itself on the Kirin 710 chipset for the 10k to 20k phone segment and this phone also features the same processor. It has a single variant with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. The overall score of the Y9 2019 on AnTuTu benchmark comes around 1,38,000 which is a powerful score and could handle multiple apps and gaming at high graphics settings during our testing. Thanks to the 4 A73 cores that fires up the clock speed in graphics gaming. Honor 10 Lite also comes with Kirin 710 processor which is prices around 14k.

Performance wise, Huawei Y9 2019 impresses with Kirin 710

As always, let us now check the brief review of the Camera sensor and the features this phone offers. Huawei Y9 offers a Quad AI Camera setup - 2 in front and 2 in the rear. We have a 16 MP f/1.8 sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor on the back and 13 MP f/2.0 and a 2 MP depth sensor for the selfie. The captured image offers good detailing of the scene around but we felt that the sharpness levels were a bit average. Most importantly, the camera manages to present the foreground and background properly when checking the accurate blue sky colors Y9 captures. The AI is available on both front and rear camera and is used for object and scene recognition, we found that most of the AI images just saturates the color.

The selfie captures good skin tone and the video recording from both the camera does not support 4K or EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization). Coming to the portrait shots, the edge detection looks accurate as both cameras have a dedicated depth sensor. The image had good details and quality but not outstanding given the pricing of 17k and the competitive domain.

The gaming performance of the phone also works smoothly, thanks to the Kirin 710. We could easily play the games with high graphics setting without any latency. There was also almost nil or very minimal heating observed during extended gaming.

From the software perspective, Huawei Y9 comes with not the latest EMUI 8 (EMUI 9 is the latest), which is based over Android Oreo. We expect Huawei to upgrade the software very soon. There is a headphone jack available and the phone supports both fingerprint and face unlocking. Needless to say, both the methods are very accurate and fast as have been seen in all the Honor (owned by Huawei) smartphones.  The phone does not have any IP certification so keep it protected from water and dust.

Y9 gets a battery of 4000 mAh capacity which is good enough to power the phone easily for more than a day. Medium usage can extend the backup for around 1.5 days. However, we only get a micro USB port for charging and the box comes with a standard 10W charger (not a fast one). The box also has a TPU case and the phone supports a dedicated SD card to expand the memory up to 400 GB.

Though Huawei Y9 2019 looks to be a decent phone overall but faces stiff competition from other popular phones in this price segment. Poco F1 is a very aggressive phone in this price segment on under 20000 and offers better hardware and camera. Y9 clearly wins in the looks but that is something not sufficient for a phone priced between 15 to 20k. Also, the Oppo K1 seems to be a better option.

4. Asus Zenfone Max M2

Zenfone Max M2

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 2048 GB
  • 6.25 inch HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: Dual 13MP + 2MP
  • Front Camera: 8MP
  • 4000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Blue Colors

Best Price ₹10499

Brief Review:

Asus Zenfone Max M2 is an economical variant of the Max M2 Pro which comes with a less powerful processor and an HD+ Plus display compared to Full HD+ on the M2 Pro with other things remaining more or less the same.

This Max M2 comes with a notch type 6.26 HD+ display which has good brightness and sharpness level. The notch size on this phone is slightly bigger than compared to the M2 Pro. Also, there is no Gorilla glass on this phone which is expected in the price point so you need to be extra cautious that you do not drop it. On the build quality side, the phone looks solid and the back of the phone is metallic which feels sturdy in hand.

On the processor side, this Max M2 comes with a relatively new Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 which was seen on the only phone, Honor 8C. The Antutu benchmark scores come around 1,05,000 which is equivalent to the Samsung M20 phone and is a good score for sub 10k phone. The performance gets support from 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory. It supports a dedicated SD card slot to expand the memory up to 2 TB which is a very much needed feature as the phone is now increasingly used for clicking/storing photos videos and other data. There is also a 3 GB 32 GB variant available for a price on under 10k.

In our camera review, we found this phone clicks good pictures which given the price point are best. In terms of specifications, the sensors are similar to the Pro version. On the rear camera, there is a 13MP primary sensor and a 2 MP dedicated depth sensor and an 8 MP sensor for front camera selfies. The photos capture a lot of details with very apt quality, sharpness and color reproduction. However, the low light camera clicks and video struggled with noise and in capturing all the details. The camera app also takes a bit of time while focussing on the objects.

The portrait shots also produce attractive images with proper edge detection/bokeh effect most of the time unless there is a complex object in the background. The video recording is available in 4K (Ultra HD) resolution but stabilization is not available in 4K. You can enable stabilization for video recording under the 1080p resolution.

Coming to the gaming performance, the new Snapdragon 632 fares well is most of the scenario. The low to medium end games work perfectly fine without any issues however the high-end games do suffer some lag because of the processor performance, especially in games like PUBG which require you to focus on enemies takes some time delay compared to phones with the high-end processor.  Overall, the gaming performance is good in day to day life with very minor heating observed during our review. The full-screen games mask the notch completely with no option to enable it for now. Asus might change this with a software update in the future.

This Max M2 like the Max M2 Pro and Max M1 Pro comes with stock android with minimum bloatware apps like Facebook, Instagram etc which you might anyways need. The phone has been launched with Android Oreo and is supposed to get the Android Pie update. The phone supports dual VoLTE so if your network provider has VoLTE in your area, then you can use it on both the sim.  There are fingerprint and face unlocking mechanism available and both are fast and accurate and much improved from the previous Asus phones. There is no IP rating on this phone so keep it safe from water and dust and they can damage the phone.

For the battery backup, Asus has provided a 4000 mAh battery which gives a backup of around 1 complete day with heavy usage and around 1.5 days for medium to low usage. There is a 10W charger bundled in the box which takes around 120 minutes for complete charging and the phone does not support fast charging. Despite a big battery, the phone only weighs 160gm and feels light in hand. In terms of accessories, there is a TPU case bundled in the box but no earphones.

If you are looking for a complete phone and have a budget of around 10000, then you can look to choose this phone as it offers a solid quality, decent processor and a good battery backup. You can also read about the Samsung M10 if you do not need a powerful processor but a phone with good looks. Honor 8C also offer similar specification and comes in a similar price range.

5. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2

Zenfone Max Pro M2

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 2048 GB
  • 6.26 inch Full HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 12MP + 5MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 13MP
  • 5000mAh Battery

  • Available in Blue, Titanium Colors

Best Price ₹11999

Brief Review:

Asus has been doing fine in the smartphone industry with its trump card of providing the best battery backup among the mid-range phone with a powerful processor and decent pricing. This Max Pro M2 is a successor of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and comes with some major improvements in the similar launch price. To make the space for Max Pro M2, the Max Pro M1 has seen a price cut now and you can check it here. M1 has seen a lot of software updates for improvements in camera, security etc.

Asus Max Pro M2 comes with a solid build quality and a 6.26-inch big screen with Full HD Plus resolution. The notch type display has good viewing angles and color reproduction. It comes with the latest Gorilla Glass 6 and the screen remained intact with minor scratches when we dropped it a couple of times. The notch is small and the phone looks decent.

The Pro M2 is powered by a very powerful Snapdragon 660 which comes with Adreno 512 GPU. It can easily handle all your multitasking and high-end gaming. On the Antutu charts, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 scores around 1,43,000 and easily beats the Redmi Note 6 Pro, Realme 2 Pro and the Samsung M20 which are seen as its competitors in the under 15000 budget segment.

The Snapdragon 660 is clocked at 90% of the maximum efficiency in M2 Pro but still beats the competitors by a margin. To support a powerful processor, it comes with a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which can be extended by up to 2 TB using a dedicated SD card slot. So if you are looking to use a lot of apps in parallel or use heavy applications, then you will not be disappointed with this phone.

The camera has also seen a huge improvement. The selfie camera on the Max Pro M1 was a disappointment, though Asus improved a lot of prospects through software upgrades. Let us now check the review of camera on Max Pro M2. The rear camera has a dual setup with 12 MP Sony IMX486 and 5 MP depth sensor and a LED flash to assist photos in the low light. The camera images are sharp with decent color reproduction. The rear camera supports EIS and 4K (Ultra HD) video recording. For portrait shots, the edge detection, blurring effect and sharpness are accurate and the camera does a good job overall and is a big improvement over the Pro M1. The front camera has a 13MP sensor with LED flash and here also the images are good. In low light, there is some noise which could be observed. Overall, for the pricing of under 15k, the camera setup is good.

On the software side, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 was launched with Android Oreo but they have started pushing the Android 9.0 (Pie) now. The operating system is stock android and there is very little bloatware so the usage experience would be good and clutter free. For the connectivity, this phone supports Dual VoLTE so you can call using VoLTE on both the sim if your network supports it.

With a powerful processor and good RAM management, the gaming experience is also flawless. Games like Asphalt, PUBG work fine without any lag and you will enjoy playing them. We observed very minor heating were playing PUBG continuously.

Coming to the most attracting aspect of this phone, the battery backup. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes with a 5000 mAh battery which gives a screen on time (SOT) of around 8 hours and complete backup of 1.5 days with low to medium usage. With heavy usage, you can still expect 1 day of battery life. The phone though does not have a Type C port for charging and no fast charging support is available. Also, there is no IP rating so keep the phone protected from dust and water.

For the security purpose, the phone supports fingerprint sensor and face unlocking. Both the unlocking mechanisms are accurate and very much improved functionality over the Pro M1. There is a multicolor LED notification inside the notch to give a different color output based on the type of notification.

Overall, with Powerful processor and performance, improved camera, stock android, and huge battery backup, this phone sits perfectly for one of the best phones under 15000. It receives stiff competition from Redmi Note 6 Pro and Realme 2 Pro and now the Samsung M20 but has its own features to separate it from the crowd.

6. Honor 8C

8C

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 6.2 inch HD Display 720p
  • Back Camera: 13MP+2MP Dual
  • Front Camera: 8MP
  • 4000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black, Blue Colors

Best Price ₹12999

Brief Review:

Honor 8C is the successor of Honor 7C which arrived just 6 months before 7C. The 8C is priced above 7C and comes with some nice improvements. The display on the Honor 8C is a 6.2 inch IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution. It has a notch on top and the aspect ratio is 19:9. The lower resolution means things don't look sharp and the brightness isn't great as well. The display is average at best.

The phone has a glossy back with a black and blue gradient which looks nice and different. The design overall is just good and nothing exciting. We would have loved to see a back similar to Honor 8X. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back and it is very quick and accurate. There is face unlock available as well. Face unlock is also very quick is there is a good amount of light. In low light conditions, the phone increases the display brightness to light up the face.

The dual camera on the back is placed vertically. The dual setup is 13MP+2MP where 2MP is the depth sensor that Honor is using since last 2-3 years. The 13MP camera is good though, it has an f/1.8 aperture which helps a bit in low light photography. The front camera is an 8MP shooter and takes decent pictures in daylight conditions and average pictures in low light. The video recording is average as well because there is no stabilization and videos come out shaky.

The battery inside Honor 8C has a capacity of 4000 mAh. Honor has managed to pack a big battery and keep the phone slim and lightweight. The charger inside the box is the usual 5V 2Amp 10W charger. The battery backup of Honor 8C is excellent and it will easily last for 2 days with low usage and 1.5 days with heavy usage. The charger charges the phone in around 2.5 hours.

The Honor 8C is powered by the latest Snapdragon 632 Octa Core processor. There is 4GB of RAM and 32 to 64GB of storage. The storage can be increased via the dedicated MicroSD slot. The Snapdragon 632 processor with 4GB of RAM handles multitasking well. There were occasional frame drops in games like Asphalt though.

Honor 8C runs on EMUI skin based on Android Oreo 8.1. It is bloated and has a lot of preinstalled applications. It does have some useful features like dual apps. So if you are coming from a Stock Android phone, you might hate it for the UI or you might love it for the additional features.

Overall, Honor 8C is a mixed bag. The battery backup is great, there is a dedicated MicroSD slot and the multitasking is decent. Negatives include an HD display, bloatware and average camera performance in low light. It is a decent phone overall but not the best at all. Go for Realme 2 Pro, Redmi Note 6 Pro, Samsung M20 which provides better value for money. If you like Honor then increase your budget by 2000 and go for Honor 8X which is a much better option than 8C.

Brief Review:

The Redmi Note 6 Pro is a slightly improved version of the bestseller Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi claims that they have sold more than 10M units of Note 5 Pro which is incredible. Redmi Note 5 Pro was a great phone and redefined what the mid-range segment. Things have changed a lot since then and now we have plenty of great options in under 15000 segment like Realme 2 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, Honor 8X etc.

Design wise, Note 6 Pro looks exactly same as Note 5 Pro. The only difference you will notice is the display which now comes with a notch. The display size is 6.26 inches and the overall size of the phone is same as Note 5 Pro. The phone has the same metal unibody design and the build is solid. The phone is a bit slippery because of the metal so using a case would be a good choice. The camera placement on the back is same as before. The display resolution is Full HD+ and it not comes with a notch on top which is a little big than what we usually see. Big notches are terrible because they don't leave much space for the notification icons which can be a real problem for some users.

The rear camera on Redmi Note 6 Pro is 12MP+5MP dual setup. The resolution numbers are same as Note 5 Pro but the sensor has been upgraded. It comes with a 1.4-micrometer pixel size and wider f/1.9 aperture offer you an enhanced low-light photography experience. In our review, the low light shots showed significant improvement. On the front, there is a 20MP+2MP dual camera setup. The 2MP is just a depth sensor. The performance of the front camera is also really good and it takes sharp pictures. Portrait mode on both front and rear works well with good edge detection. You can adjust the amount of bokeh/blur after taking the picture.

The battery on Note 6 Pro is the same 4000 mAh which we have seen earlier. The battery backup is a bit better though. You can expect 2 days backup with low usage and 1.5 days backup with medium usage which is excellent. The phone also supports QC 3.0 fast charging but comes with the same 5V 2A charger. If you need to use fast charging, you should buy a fast charger separately. It would have been great if Xiaomi would have included a fast charger inside the box.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro is powered by the same Snapdragon 636 chipset which we saw in Note 5 Pro. Snapdragon 636 is a good power efficient chipset and handles multiple apps and games with ease. An upgrade to Snapdragon 660 would have been great still 636 is not bad at all. It scores around 110000 in Antutu benchmarks.

The phone runs on MIUI which is a customized skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Android 9 Pie update is coming soon as well. The software is a bit bloated and kills apps aggressively to save battery. You can change that in the settings though. The UI isn't great so we suggest installing Nova launcher which provides a much cleaner experience.

The Note 6 Pro comes in 2 variants: 4GB RAM 64GB storage and 6GB RAM 64GB storage. We are not getting any 128GB variant which is disappointing considering the fact that other brands are providing 128GB variants under 20000 Rs.

Overall, Redmi Note 6 Pro is a phone which is not so exciting and doesn't pack any major upgrades but still performs well in almost every department. Camera, battery, looks, performance everything is decent and at 12999 it offers good value for money. If you have Note 5 Pro, then you don't need to upgrade. If you are using any other phone and need an allrounder under Rs. 15000 then Note 6 Pro is a great option.

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 6.2 inch Full HD+ Display 1080p

Best Price ₹13999

Brief Review:

Moto One Power is a mid-range Android One smartphone from Motorola which comes with a massive 5000 mAh battery. Recent Motorola phones like the G6, G6 Plus were overpriced but the One Power looks reasonably priced. Should you buy it? Let's find out in our brief review below.

Looks wise, the Motorola One Power looks very similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Just add a notch display to Note 5 Pro and you will get Moto One Power. The camera placement on the rear is vertical and the fingerprint sensor is placed in the center. The Moto logo is above the fingerprint sensor which is not the quickest but does the job well. The design is metal unibody and there's not much to write about it. The display on the front is a 6.2 inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of Full HD+ 1080p. The display is good. The colors are rich and viewing angles are fine as well. The front camera and the earpiece are placed inside the notch.

The phone feels solid but it is a bit bulky because of the massive 5000 mAh battery inside. It weighs 205 gms and the thickness is around 9mm. If you like slim and light-weight phones then this is not for you. The 5000 mAh battery means excellent battery life. You can get 2 days of backup on a single charge with mixed usage. Motorola is providing a fast turbocharger inside the box and it charges the phone from 0 to 100% in just around 2 hours and 15 minutes which is great.

Moto One Power comes with a dual rear camera and a single front camera. The rear setup is 16MP+5MP where 5MP is the depth sensor to add bokeh effect to your images. The 16MP color sensor has a f/1.8 aperture and the performance is not that great. The portrait mode pictures look very average and Motorola needs to improve it with a software update. The video doesn't have any stabilization so that's shaky. The front camera is 12MP and takes decent pictures outdoors. Indoors low light performance is average for both rear and front cameras. This isn't the best phones in the segment for camera lovers.

The chipset inside the Motorola One Power is the Snapdragon 636. The SD636 chipset is very powerful and can handle any task you throw at it. Using multiple applications and games is going to be a breeze. Moto One Power scores around 115000 on the Antutu Benchmarks which is similar to phones like Note 5 Pro and Zenfone Max Pro. Moto One Power is an Android One smartphone with no bloatware installed. The clean software with a powerful chipset provides a very smooth experience.

Moto One Power comes in just 1 variant which is 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The storage can be expanded via a dedicated MicroSD slot by up to 256GB. The only color available is black. We were expecting more options from Motorola but that didn't happen.

Moto One Power is exclusively available on Flipkart at Rs.15999. Considering the performance of the phone, we think it offers good value for money. If you need a phone with notch display, stock android, powerful processor and a big battery then Moto One Power will be perfect for you. If you need better cameras then go for Mi A2.

Brief Review:

Honor 8X is the successor of Honor 7X which was launched in the first quarter of 2018. 7X was a big upgrade over the 6X and now 8X is a big upgrade over 7X. We are really impressed with what Honor has done here. Let's take a look at the brief review of Honor 8X.

First, let's talk about the design. The Honor 8X looks stunning. The phone redefines the midrange segment. The only phone which comes close to Honor 8X in looks is the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Honor 8X has a glass sandwich design. On the front, we have a large 6.5-inch display with very thin bezels. Even the chin at the bottom is one of thinnest we have seen on Android devices. The screen to body ratio is over 91% which is excellent. The back of the phone is also covered with glass has a beautiful reflective design with 2 colors. We love how the phone looks.

The 6.5-inch display is an IPS LCD notch display with a resolution of Full HD+. The display is very sharp with great colors, good saturation, and contrast. It is one of the best displays available in this segment. Looks wise, Honor 8X is the best phone available under Rs. 15000 as of October 2018.

Honor 8X is powered by the Hisilicon Kirin 710 which is the latest mid-range chip from Huawei. Kirin 710 is built on 12nm process and offers great performance and power efficiency as well. It has 4 Cortex A53 core and 4 Cortex A73 cores. Performance wise the Kirin 710 chipset is similar to Snapdragon 660 in performance. It scores around 135000 on Antutu benchmarks. With Kirin 710, Honor 8X comes with 4GB to 6GB RAM and 64GB to 128GB storage. The lowest variant comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and even that variant handles multitasking and gaming with ease. Normal day to day usage on 8X is a breeze with no lag. Heavy games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 also run fine. If your usage is very heavy and involves switching between multiple heavy apps/games then going for the 6GB 128GB variant would be a good option.

Inside the Honor 8X, we get a 3750 mAh battery which is decent considering the large display size. The battery backup is decent and the phone would easily last for a day with medium use. With light usage, you might get a backup of around 1.5 days. The phone comes with a 10W 5V 2A charger in the box. Honor says it has fast charging but the charging time is around 2 hours for 0 to 100% which is very normal for a device with 3750mAh battery. The port is still MicroUSB. We think Honor should now move to USB Type C ports.

On the camera side, we have a lot of AI stuff going on. Honor has provided a dual 20MP+2MP dual camera on the back. The 20MP is a f/1.8 color sensor and the 2MP is a depth sensor for portrait shots. On the front, we have a 16MP single sensor. Honor is using AI for a lot of stuff. It can adjust settings depending on scene recognition. The AI also helps in improving the quality of low light pictures. The overall performance of the camera is good. Pictures taken in day light looks excellent. The color accuracy is not great and we hope that gets fixed via a software update. The portrait shots also look good with proper edge detection and natural looking bokeh in the background. The video recording also supports slow motion up to 480 fps which is something we don't see on midrange phones.

Honor 8X runs on Honor's EMUI 8.2 which is a skin based on Android Oreo 8.1. EMUI has some bloatware installed and doesn't have a clean look like stock Android but you can always install Nova launcher on it so it is not an issue. EMUI has useful features like dual apps using which you can have 2 WhatsApp on the same phone. EMUI is very stable and doesn't have any irritating bugs. The phone runs smoothly and you won't face any lags.

Honor 8X doesn't have any IP waterproofing certification so keep it away from water and dust. The phone is very slippery because of the glass back so covering it with a nice case would be a good choice. There is a dedicated MicroSD Card available using which you can increase the storage by up to 128GB. Dual VOLTE is also available which is great if you want to use 2 Jio sims at once.

The Honor 8X comes in 3 variants: 4-64GB is priced at 14999, 6-64GB is priced at 16999 and 6-128GB is priced at 18999. The lowest 4-64GB variant provides good performance and excellent value for money so if your usage is not very heavy, go for the lowest variant. The phone comes in 2 colors: Blue and Black. If you need something cool and flashy then go with the Blue color option.

Brief Review:

So, Motorola E and G series have been a blockbuster for the company in the past and Motorola is counting on them to keep continuing that. So to maintain that dominance in market, which is very volatile given the budget range where all these phones compete, Motorola is here with a bunch of new additions and refinements to the Moto E and G lineup. Here we have the Moto E5 Plus, It has a ‘Plus’ in Its name so Its kinda bound to have a big 6-inch screen which it does. Its an IPS LCD Display at super-awesome 18:9 aspect ratio with a 720 x 1440 pixels resolution making a pixel density of 268PPI. Now I really appreciate Motorola’s efforts of imbibing high-end stuff into budget comers like the E series but Its sort of half-ass, a 720p display with a modern 18:9 aspect ratio?

Motorola says that the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, without specifying the version. The device, however, has improved on Its build quality and feels more premium than Its predecessors. The glossy back with Motorola trademark round camera cut-out. The fingerprint scanner is also rear-mounted just below the camera circle. The device is bit thicker but I don’t think anyone cares if a device is a few MMs fat given, you provide solid specs to back it up.

The Moto E5 Plus runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM. Snapdragon 430 is over two years old and I think Motorola could’ve done better here. Adreno 308 is also fairly old given the pace technology is running and while It should be a decent performer for everyday tasks, don’t expect too much heavy lifting without hiccups. E5 Plus comes with  32GB onboard storage and 3GB RAM. The storage can be increased by up to 256GB with a MicroSD card.

At the back, you’ll find the same iconic round camera cutout which I don’t know why is that big. The camera it houses is a decent one though. Moto E5 Plus packs a single, 12MP, f/2.0, 1.25μm sensor with all the usual stuff such as phase detection AF, Face detection and more. The front camera setup houses a 5MP, f/2.0 sensor which takes good selfies for the price. The camera is quite good given the bracket where this smartphone lies.

Motorola E5 Plus runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, out of the box which is a no-brainer in 2018, while Android P is just around the corner. The software is fluid and responsive, there are no fancy customizations or super bloated skins like others which is one thing I love about Motorola software. Keep It Clean! The battery on this one is one of the selling points - with 5000mAh of juice, E5 Plus can last well beyond a day and probably most of the second day as well. And what’s admirable Is that to charge this big boy, fast charging is at service. There’s no IP rating for E5 Plus, so better to keep it away from liquids.

Moto E5 Plus has been priced at Rs. 11999 in India. It faces tough competition from phones like Redmi Note 5, Asus Zenfone Max Pro, Redmi Y2, Honor 7X, Realme 1 and Honor 9 Lite. All these phones pack better hardware than the E5 Plus. The only reason you should go for E5 Plus is if you need a beautiful phone with a big battery. Performance wise, there are a lot of other better options.
