Brief Review:

Pocophone is a sub-brand of Xiaomi like Realme is of Oppo and Pocophone or known as Poco has launched its first smartphone in India on 22nd August 2018. Pocophone has left everyone amazed with a very aggressive pricing despite being powered by the top shot Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which we saw in the OnePlus 6 and the Zenfone 5ZPoco F1 comes with a notch display, a powerful battery, a good to go camera and everything that a user looking to spend 25k would look for. It smashes all the record of the value for money score and here in this review, we discuss the specifications, features and every detail on the Poco F1, which you as a prospective buyer would look for.

Poco F1 comes with a 6.18 inch Full HD plus display having a resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels. The display has a notch design which is slightly big and holds the front camera and the IR sensor. The software gives you the option to disable the notch if you do not like it and use the phone like a bezel-less display phone. The screen is of IPS LCD type and is of good quality with perfect brightness and no issues could be observed even using it in the direct sunlight with auto brightness. The one thing which we found a little weird are the thin bezels even above the notch which does affect its looks and design.

On the build quality side, the Poco Phone comes with a polycarbonate body which is a small compromise comparing the beautiful and gorgeous glass design pattern which we see in the phones today. That does not mean the phone ranks poor on the build quality, overall it is good with metal in between back and front and is decent at the price point considering what all it offers as discussed below. The 8GB 256 GB variant comes in a Kevlar back material which is textured and looks better with a better build quality and is priced at 29k. You can take a look at the Kevlar variant here. The Pocophone is not a fingerprint magnet and there are no smudges as we see on the smartphones with glass designs. Also, there is a translucent case bundled in the box.

Coming to the highlight of this Poco F1, The Performance, and here everyone has their jaw dropped as we witness the all-powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which till date was only seen in the budget flagship and the flagship smartphone. The Snapdragon 845 in a budget smartphone at 21k is totally insane and has put a big question in front of other manufacturers to think of what should they introduce next. Snapdragon 845 needs no introduction as it was seen in the OnePlus 6 and the Zenfone 5Z. It is an octa-core processor comprising of 4x2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 385 Silver along with Adreno 630 GPU. The Poco F1 also witnesses the LiquidCool Technology, which keeps the CPU temperature maintained that allows the Snapdragon 845 to perform to its full capacity when you are gaming in the super heavy mode.

The phone comes with a 6GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256 GB with the hybrid micro SD card slot. Without any iota of doubt, the performance is mind-blowing and the RAM management is amazing, the multitasking is super smooth, the gaming performance is brilliant and we did not find even a small hiccup in our usage. The Poco F1 scores a massive 285302 on the Antutu Benchmark shattering any record that existed for a smartphone priced around 20000. On the GeekBench, the Poco F1 scores, 2467 on the Single Core and 9081 on the multi-core, and we would ask you, what else would you get for only Rs 20000. Full marks on the performance to the master of speed, Poco F1.

On the next important aspect of the Poco F1, the camera. Here we get a dual read camera placed vertically in the middle of the phone with 12MP Sony IMX363 + 5MP Samsung, f/1.75 sensors and dual LED flash. The colours in the photo look rich and the shots are pretty much detailed. The images are sharp and you are going to love it for 21000 bucks. Frankly speaking, the camera is not as great as the OnePlus 6 priced at 35000 but gives a tough competition to it.  There is support for 4K videos but the Poco F1 only supports Electronic Image stabilization (EIS) and does not support Optical Image stabilization (OIS). In the portrait mode, the edge detection in bang on and we could see even the hairline edges are very well aligned. There are some AI optimizations in the colours using the object detection. The low light shots are also very bright and contain very less noise, OnePlus 6 is better but only by a tad margin as it captures more light and has slightly better low light images. Also, OnePlus 6 has better image stabilization because of the presence of OIS and the difference could be seen in the videos recorded at 4K resolution of Poco F1 and OnePlus 6.

The front camera comes with a 20 MP sensor and it also supports the portrait mode. The shots are full of details and you might even look better than what you look in the real life. At the pricing of 21k, we are in love with what the camera has to offer. A budget flagship capability in a budget pricing in what Poco offers. The camera configuration, is similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro and people had questions that if the camera performance in any better? So here, we do not think we should compare, because the camera image quality on the Poco F1 is far better and class apart than the Note 5 Pro which is also directed by a far better image signal processor in the Snapdragon 845.  Poco F1 has the best ever camera seen in any phone in India for a pricing of 21000.

The PocoPhone F1, runs on MIUI 9.6 with POCO specific optimization and is build over the Android Oreo. Poco has promised an update to the MIUI 10 and also the Android P (Pie). The MIUI has some bloatware but the POCO has enabled the gesture recognition which if enabled on your device removes the three button from the bottom and reads your gesture for all the tasks, something similar to what we saw in the iPhone X.

Poco F1 not just comes with a massive processor but a huge battery life. it features a non-removable 4000 mAh battery and gives a screen on time of around 6.5 to 7 hours and with medium usage, you can easily run with the phone for at least 1.5 days. Fro the heaviest of usage, you may still see a battery backup for a full day, this speaks volume of the optimization that comes with the phone and the efficiency of the Snapdragon 845 processor. The Poco F1 has a USB type C port and supports Quick Charge 3.0(quickly charges up the first 20%) with a fast charger bundled in the box. The total time it takes for the charging is about 100-110 minutes.  Poco F1 is not water or dust resistant and there is no IP rating so keep it protected from any damage.

For the unlocking, Poco F1 comes with a fingerprint sensor just below the rear camera and is super quick. It takes less time than the blink of the eye. For the face unlocking, which is also very accurate and fast comes with an additional feature of IR sensor, which enables you to unlock the phone even in darkness. It has a stereo speaker where the main speaker is located at the bottom and the earpiece is used as the second speaker but you do not get a true stereo speaker like seen in the Zenfone 5z but it is decent enough for the pricing.

After all this, we can just say that Poco has entered the market with a band and is a total game changer for the industry. Without any doubt, the Poco F1 is the best smartphone under 25000 and we can hear the trumpets of the thumping victory this Poco F1 from Xiaomi is going to blow.

The Poco F1 sale starts from 29th August 2018 and is exclusively available on Flipkart via the flash sale. For the 21k variant, you are going to see huge demand as was for the Note 5 Pro. There is a launch offer with Poco F1 where you can get additional Rs 1000 discount if you pay via HDFC credit and debit card.

Brief Review:

Honor is on a roll in India and they are launching phones at a crazy rate. Till August, we have seen more than 10 launches from Honor. Honor Play is the latest one which is priced under Rs. 20000 and specifications are going to surprise you. Let's take a look at the brief review of Honor Play.

Honor Play is a nice looking phone. The phone has a metal unibody design and has a matte finish on the back which gives it a nice look. Both Black and Blue color looks great. The dua camera setup is placed vertically at the corner and the fingerprint sensor is placed at the center. The fingerprint sensor is quick and responsive.

On the front, we have a notch display of 6.3 inches. The resolution is Full HD+ and the aspect ratio is 19:9. Notch was more of a compromise when it showed up on iPhone X and after that, every OEM copied it like it was some kind of feature. We are not really a fan of the notch but some people do like it. Overall, the phone looks really good and is comfortable to hold.

Honor Play is powered by Huawei's own Kirin 970 chipset which is there on their other flagship phones like P20 Pro, Honor 10, View 10 etc. The Kirin 970 is an octa-core SoC with 4x2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 and 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. It is similar to Snapdragon 835 in performance.  For handling the graphics workloads, Kirin 970 packs an impressive Mali G72 MP 12 as GPU, and It has serious power. Honor has made things even better with GPU turbo which provides better performance and more efficiency. With 4GB of RAM and Kirin 970, you are going to see flagship like performance on the Honor Play. Whether it is switching between multiple apps or playing heavy games, this phone is going to handle it with ease.

The performance is visible in Antutu benchmark as well. You can expect an Antutu score of around 200000 which is 30-50% more than other phones in this price range. On Geekbench, you will see a single core benchmark score of around 1800 and multi-core score of around 6800.

Honor Play comes in just 1 variant which packs 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 storage. You can expand the storage via MicroSD up to 256GB. But it is a hybrid sim slot so you cannot use 2 sim cards with a MicroSD. The RAM and storage are again flagship grade which is something you don't usually see in this price range.

Honor Play comes with a dual 16MP+2MP camera setup on the back and 16MP single camera on the front. The dual camera setup on the back has a 16MP color sensor and the 2MP sensor helps to give a bokeh effect to the pictures also known as portrait mode. The camera can record 4K videos and has EIS-AIS stabilization as well. The camera performance is good in outdoor natural light conditions. The pictures have a good amount of details with natural looking colors. The portrait mode works well.

Honor Play is also using AI in the camera which detects the category and surrounding to optimize the pictures. If you are taking a picture in a park in daylight, it will tweak settings according to it and if you are taking pictures inside a room in low light conditions then settings will be tweaked according to that. It all happens in real time and you don't have to do anything.

The front 16MP camera also takes decent shots indoors and outdoors. It also uses AI to enhance/beautify your face. Plenty of options are provided to make your selfies look better. Selfie camera is also used for Face unlock which works well and unlocks your phone in less than a second.

Honor is pitching Honor Play as gaming smartphone. In addition to GPU Turbo, there's one other interesting feature which is 4D gaming mode. It takes the gaming experience to next level by providing feedback like vibrations while you are shooting in a game. It is going to drain the battery faster but it is a cool feature.

Honor Play comes with EMUI 8.2 which is a custom skin based on Android 8 Oreo. EMUI has some bloatware but it is not laggy. It has some useful features like dual apps which can come in handy if you want to use multiple accounts on apps like WhatsApp. Overall, the UI looks good and it is responsive as well. You won't face any lag during the day to day usage.

Honor Play comes with a 3750mAh battery which is a good capacity. You can expect a backup of around 1 day on medium to heavy usage with a screen on time of around 6 hours. With low usage, it would last for 1.5 days on a single charge. The phones come with a 9V 2A fast charge in the box which is another plus point.

Honor Play is not water or dust proof and there is no IP rating so keeping it away from the water will be a good option.

So what are we getting at a price of 20000? A good looking phone with a nice large display on the front, a powerful chipset, 4GB of RAM, dual camera, large battery and excellent performance. We think Honor Play is the best phone under 20000 as of now. The only negative point is the availability. It is available via flash sales and the stock is very limited so getting hands on a device is going to be difficult.

Brief Review:

Vivo Nex in its first impression looks like a perfect start from Vivo to compete with the likes of OnePlus 6. With such an innovation, a beautiful design, brilliant camera and a powerful processor, Vivo Nex seems to be a perfect recipe for the winning formula. We reviewed this powerhouse and here we bring the Vivo Nex Review. Let us look at each of the features, specifications in our review of the Vivo Nex and more about preorder and the launch offers.

The bezel-less display(18:9 aspect ratio) was the hot topic of 2017 and beginning of 2018 which was followed by the notch display. Vivo, Oppo, Honor and Asus were the first companies to adapt to the notch display quickly after the iPhone X notch became a hit.  While not all the brands have yet adapted to the notch display, Vivo seems to have found a new alternative to the notch display with a perfect bezel-less design and a motorized front camera.

Vivo with this Vivo Nex brings in a huge 6.59-inch display with a screen to body ratio of 91.24 and an aspect ratio of 19.3:9. There is no notch but screen all around with very minimum bezel at the bottom. It has a patterned back which shows different colourful design from different angles. Its no doubt but the device is an absolute gorgeous masterpiece.

The 6.59-inch display has a Full HD Plus resolution of 2316 x 1080 pixels. It is a Super AMOLED display as we see with most of the Samsung phones and these displays are the best. Though the PPI number might seem less for Vivo Nex, the colour reproduction, brightness and the viewing angles are perfect and top notch. The more the better and surely 1440p would have been better than the 1080p but the current 1080p seems to have made no major compromise in the quality.

Coming to the powerhouse, the processor and performance review of the Vivo Nex. Here also, Vivo has made no compromise to the performance capability and runs on the best Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor to offer the flagship grade performance.  It is the same processor seen in OnePlus 6 and Asus Zenfone 5Z and there is nothing better than Snapdragon 845. Vivo Nex scores a massive 262553 on the Antutu Benchmarks. Along with a very solid processor, Vivo Nex also packs an 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The performance is an absolute stunner and it easily handles multiple apps, heavy games and everything you throw at this beast with super ease. There is no single hiccup observed during our review of Vivo Nex.

Thanks to this performance, the gaming experience of this Vivo Nex was amazing. The top end games loaded very quickly and it was a treat to eyes to play them on such a big and beautiful display. There was no frame drops or lag observed while gaming on Vivo Nex. Now, it is time to talk about the most talked and amusing feature of the Vivo Nex, the Camera. Vivo has always been particular about the camera quality in all its phone ranges and does the same with the Vivo Nex.

Vivo Nex comes supports a dual rear camera with the primary 12MP sensor and a 5MP depth sensor for the bokeh(portrait) shots. It has the Sony IMX363 sensors and clicks very beautiful images. The images have deeper details and clarity with vibrant colours.  The portrait shots are perfect and the camera quality does not fall short of anything. Vivo Nex camera supports a 4 axis OIS(Optical Image Stabilization) and clicks great low light images. The smartphone uses AI Scene Recognition to beautify and enhance the images.

Vivo nex front elevated camera

In the front camera, Vivo Nex has an 8MP sensor and the more attracting feature in the motorized camera as in the above image. In the Camera app, whenever you switch to the front camera, there is a piece of hardware that pops out from the top of the smartphone which holds the 8 MP sensor camera.  The motorized camera goes back inside the phone whenever you close the camera app or switch to the rear camera. The images are full of details but the low light images tend to bring some noise. The front camera also supports bokeh shots. There is only one concern that there could be a lot of damage to the front camera module if the phone gets accidentally dropped with the camera elevated.

Vivo Nex also features AR stickers or both front and rear camera which look great. It also supports professional mode, where you can adjust the ISO, exposure, shutter speed and other factors to make the image look perfect. Talking about the camera quality, it is one of the best in this price range and gives a strong competition to the OnePlus 6. Full points to Vivo, for bringing the motorized camera concept to the Vivo Nex Smartphone. The motorized front camera concept was also seen in the recently launched Oppo Find X.

On the other features, Vivo Nex comes with an in display fingerprint sensor as was seen in the Vivo X21. The in display fingerprint sensor works smoothly and accurately but takes a fraction of second extra to unlock the phone compared to the normal fingerprint sensor. There is no face unlocking available as the front camera in hidden and only pops out when the camera app is switched to front camera mode. This Vivo Nex, comes with Screen SoundCasting technology. Here the smartphone does not have any earpiece for taking the calls but a motor sitting behind the screen and vibrates the display and you can hear it as you are listening via an earpiece.

In the Vivo Nex, there is a power button on the left side and a similar looking button on the right side which opens up the Google Lens application and a long press open the Google Assistant. Vivo Nex has a massive battery of 4000 mAh which is another positive point considering the flagship phone do not see such a big battery. It offers a battery backup of around 1.5 days and supports fast charging via USB Type C port. The inbox charger is rated at 10V 2.25A, and is a fast charger that takes about 40 minutes to charge around 50%. There is no MicroSD card slot but the 128 GB of storage should be sufficient for all the users. Vivo Nex supports proper dual sim usage and has a sim tray for two nano sims.

This smartphone runs on its custom FunTouch OS which is based on the Android 8.1 Oreo. The FunTouch OS is smooth with some bloatware. There is no IP rating on this phone so keep in safe from water and dust and this is the only negative point we see in this flagship Vivo Nex.

The perfectly crafted Vivo Nex comes has a couple of things in the inbox accessories. It has a Vivo branded in-ear style earphones, a rubberized case which is again of good quality, and a fast charger. Overall, Vivo Nex is a complete package for a budget flagship-grade smartphone and has a perfect value of money score. But you might feel irritated or uncomfortable initially with so many new things happening, especially if you are not much into love for technology.

With a motorized front camera, in display fingerprint sensor, perfect camera and crisp display, you are in for a complete fun with this Vivo Nex. Vivo Nex certainly is the frontrunner now to set the new standard for the future true bezel-less phones and other features.

Brief Review:

So, Motorola E and G series have been a blockbuster for the company in the past and Motorola is counting on them to keep continuing that. So to maintain that dominance in market, which is very volatile given the budget range where all these phones compete, Motorola is here with a bunch of new additions and refinements to the Moto E and G lineup. Here we have the Moto E5 Plus, It has a ‘Plus’ in Its name so Its kinda bound to have a big 6-inch screen which it does. Its an IPS LCD Display at super-awesome 18:9 aspect ratio with a 720 x 1440 pixels resolution making a pixel density of 268PPI. Now I really appreciate Motorola’s efforts of imbibing high-end stuff into budget comers like the E series but Its sort of half-ass, a 720p display with a modern 18:9 aspect ratio?

Motorola says that the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, without specifying the version. The device, however, has improved on Its build quality and feels more premium than Its predecessors. The glossy back with Motorola trademark round camera cut-out. The fingerprint scanner is also rear-mounted just below the camera circle. The device is bit thicker but I don’t think anyone cares if a device is a few MMs fat given, you provide solid specs to back it up.

The Moto E5 Plus runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM. Snapdragon 430 is over two years old and I think Motorola could’ve done better here. Adreno 308 is also fairly old given the pace technology is running and while It should be a decent performer for everyday tasks, don’t expect too much heavy lifting without hiccups. E5 Plus comes with  32GB onboard storage and 3GB RAM. The storage can be increased by up to 256GB with a MicroSD card.

At the back, you’ll find the same iconic round camera cutout which I don’t know why is that big. The camera it houses is a decent one though. Moto E5 Plus packs a single, 12MP, f/2.0, 1.25μm sensor with all the usual stuff such as phase detection AF, Face detection and more. The front camera setup houses a 5MP, f/2.0 sensor which takes good selfies for the price. The camera is quite good given the bracket where this smartphone lies.

Motorola E5 Plus runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, out of the box which is a no-brainer in 2018, while Android P is just around the corner. The software is fluid and responsive, there are no fancy customizations or super bloated skins like others which is one thing I love about Motorola software. Keep It Clean! The battery on this one is one of the selling points - with 5000mAh of juice, E5 Plus can last well beyond a day and probably most of the second day as well. And what’s admirable Is that to charge this big boy, fast charging is at service. There’s no IP rating for E5 Plus, so better to keep it away from liquids.

Moto E5 Plus has been priced at Rs. 11999 in India. It faces tough competition from phones like Redmi Note 5, Asus Zenfone Max Pro, Redmi Y2, Honor 7X, Realme 1 and Honor 9 Lite. All these phones pack better hardware than the E5 Plus. The only reason you should go for E5 Plus is if you need a beautiful phone with a big battery. Performance wise, there are a lot of other better options.

Moto G6 Play

Features

  • 3 GB RAM | 32 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 5.7 inch HD+ Display 720p
  • Back Camera: 13MP
  • Front Camera: 8MP

Best Price ₹9999

Brief Review:

If you are a little low on budget to get Moto G6 but you are happy with Moto E lineup, yet you crave that superior build of the G lineup, Moto G6 Play is for you. It looks almost similar to Moto G6 but with a few noticeable compromises such as the camera housing only has a single sensor compared to dual on the G6 and there’s a lot more under the hood.

The device is an exact replica of G6 in design and builds, with a big 5.7-inch IPS LCD display up front in all Its glory, Its 2018 and Moto is all in for 18:9 displays so that’s what we see here. The resolution is not baffling though, with 720 x 1440 pixels in a display of this size. It makes a frugal density of 282PPI which might wary most users. The fingerprint display is rear mounted just below the camera housing, so no more gestures like the Moto G6. The display is clear and crisp with good color reproduction and viewing angles are good as well. The display is covered by Gorilla glass but we don't know which version it is.

The device is totally a budget fame on the inside with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 at the centre, coupled by Adreno 505 and 2 or 3 GB of RAM. The device is set to be released in 2 models - one with 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM while the other model will have 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM.

The Moto G6 Play is not the most powerful device in the category and We feel Motorola could’ve done better but Hey Its a budget device and until pricing is out, It would be little hard to comment on the treatment Motorola has done with these devices. The device is powerful enough for everyday use cases, but not for you if you like pushing your device to limits as with this one, they’ll be before you fairly soon. Adreno 505 can take almost all games but It isn’t made for heavy weight titles coming every day in the Play Store, given Its age, We don’t think there’s too much of heavy-gaming power left in this GPU.

Let’s talk cameras because there’s much-emphasized 13MP, f/2.0, 1.12μm pixel sensor at the rear of Moto G6 Play. Moto smartphones always have capable cameras and we are not surprised with this one either. It is definitely one of our top picks in the budget category. On the front, you get a big 8MP sensor which is decent enough for some good selfies, don’t expect much in low-light though. The camera interface is a bit slow and we hope Motorola fixes it with a software update.

Android 8.0 powers Moto G6 Play and It is a neat and clean version of Android with all the swiftness and no bloatware. We really like this from Motorola and makes the phone feel more fluid and responsive.

The battery is amazing on this one with 4000mAh of capacity, you surely get a day and a half from this smartphone. On top of that we also have fast charging here, so charging this big boy won’t be an issue. There’s no IP rating by Motorola so be safe and to keep this device safe, keep it away from liquids.

Overall, Moto G6 Play is a well-balanced phone with good performance and great battery. The slow camera is a bit frustrating but it is not a deal breaker.

Brief Review:

When we saw all new Nokia 6, we knew HMD isn’t gonna stop there and here we have one more - The all new Nokia 7 Plus. Announced in February 2018, Nokia 7 Plus aims to consolidate HMD’s ground in the under 25000 smartphone segment. As always, Nokia 7 Plus speaks volumes about Nokia’s commitment to design and build supremacy. It is built with 6000 series Aluminium and has copper edges looks amazing and feels amazingly solid in hand. As is with other Nokia smartphones, the pursuit of durability and sturdiness often lets ergonomics down.

Nokia 7 Plus has the all-new 18:9 aspect ratio with almost no side bezels but considerable ones on top and bottom. There’s a 6-inch, Full HD+1080 x 2160 pixels, IPS LCD display packing 403 PPI. There’s some protection with Gorilla Glass 3 on top. At the back, we have the same iconic vertical cutout for the camera and the flash with emblazoned Zeiss branding. Nokia 7 Plus has a dual camera setup, followed by a circular cutout for a fingerprint scanner.

Let’s talk about the performance of Nokia 7 Plus because the guys at HMD have been bailing on that previously. The Nokia 7 Plus has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 at its heart backed by Adreno 512 for gaming. There’s a big 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, which makes the operation swift and smooth. The storage is expandable via MicroSD up to 256GB. In the numbers game, the superb performance of this smartphone is pretty evident - 141822 on AnTuTu 7 Benchmark and 1641, 5920 on GeekBench single and multi-core tests respectively. These numbers are certainly better than smartphones like Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 Pro and Oppo R11s.

Photography is one thing we expect a Nokia smartphone to be excellent at. There’s not one but dual camera setup on Nokia 7 Plus to give fodder to our excitement. There is a 12 MP sensor which is the main lens and 13 MP sensor being the telelens for optical zoom. The camera has gyro EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization), dual pixel phase detection autofocus, 2x optical zoom along with the very famous Carl Zeiss Optics. The camera is undoubtedly one of the best we have seen in the bracket, It takes great low-light shots with low levels of noise and great detail. On the front, there’s an equally impressive 16 MP (f/2.0, 1.0 µm) sensor which guarantees great looking selfies.  If you want a great camera on a smartphone and avoid spending fortunes on flagships - Nokia 7 Plus just might be for you.

The camera app of Nokia 7 Plus has options for HDR mode, Bothie mode that allows capturing pictures from both front and rear camera together, beautification mode, and a Pro mode. Like the Nokia 8, Nokia 7 Plus comes with OZO Audio technology that captures the right sounds and reduces the noise while capturing videos.

Nokia 7 Plus runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, under Google’s Android One Program - which means timely and hassle-free updates to pure stock Android on Nokia 7 Plus. HMD promises the Android P and Q updates to Nokia 7 Plus as they are out. We really admire the stock Android experience and mixed with timely updates - Nokia smartphones are really doing great with software.

There is a big 3800mAh battery, which is great for the smartphone to be up all day long and when you do need to charge - there’s USB-C based fast charging to sweeten the experience. Nokia 7 is built with all the major connectivity features including VoLTE and Bluetooth 5.0. The smartphone is very robust in build and would hardly take a dent and has an IP54 rating which is better than nothing for protection against water. Don’t know about IP ratings? Here’s an amazing-amazing article.

Nokia 7 Plus would cost ₹ 25,999 which is again Nokia-grade overpriced. There are some amazing alternatives but If you want to go with amazing build quality and some supercool Zeiss shots, Nokia 7 Plus won’t disappoint. You can pre-book the phone on April 20th and it will go on sale on April 30.

Brief Review:

Its always amazing to see more and more competition, raining of new features, stunning new designs in the smartphone game. With Huawei P20 Pro, the company looks to capture the flagship market and take on the likes of iPhone X and Samsung S9, Pixel 2 XL. Huawei P20 Pro is a perfect piece of engineering and looks absolutely stunning. Can it take on the competitors? Let us find out.

Huawei P20 Pro comes with a 6.1-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2244 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The bezel-less display is not the richest when compared to iPhone X and Galaxy S9 but It is gorgeous enough. The bottom bezel is the biggest as It houses the fingerprint sensor. It doesn’t really add to the modern appeal but yeah it does make the operation of smartphone quite easy and ergonomic. The device has a new, refreshing look and It is very pleasing. On the back, it has an all glass display that has perfect shine but is a fingerprint magnet, so it would be advised to use a case that comes in the box.

Having a Pro in Its name, we expect P20 Pro to have superb performance and It doesn’t disappoint. Under the hood, the device is as beautiful and glorious as It is on the outside with HiSilicon’s Kirin 970 running the show. Kirin 970 is one of the best SoCs around preceded only by A11 Bionic on the iPhone X. It houses an oct-core arrangement with 4 x 2.4 GHz Cortex-A73s  and 4 x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53s. For gaming and all, there’s Mali-G72 MP12. Kirin 970 scores a whopping 209884 on the Antutu Benchmark along with 6 GB of RAM completely ensure a top-notch flagship grade performance for anything you throw at it.

Apart from the performance and stunning looks, the eye catchy feature os this phone is a triple rear camera but it is not a marketing gimmick. In the triple camera, it has leica sensors, the topmost sensor is the 8 MP Telephoto sensor, followed by 40 MP (f/1.8, 1/1.7", OIS) RGB sensor and a 20 MP(f/1.6) monochrome sensor as the third sensor. It also has dual tone LED flash. The camera is an awesome piece of innovation, with images having superb clarity and perfect colours which look realistic. The rear camera offers perfect saturation, colour reproduction and mesmerizing low and artificial light shots. It also supports video recording up to 4K (UHD).  The camera app has various modes like portrait mode, night mode, pro mode, super slow motion video. It also effortlessly captures the moving video or image shots and has a 5x hybrid zoom to clicks images of objects at a distance. On the front camera, it has 24 MP sensor and is places in the narrow notch on the top, that clicks beautiful selfies and makes you fall in love with what it offers. Pro P20 has completely redefined the photography and you will never fail short of any expectation out of it. To abruptly say, this camera easily beats the likes of Pixel 2 XL.

Huawei P20 Pro has an onboard storage of 128 GB and supports dual sim operation. There is no micro sd card slot to expand the storage, but most of the users won't need storage over 128 GB. It is powered by Android Oreo 8.1, with Huawei’s custom skin - EMUI 8.1 on top. EMUI has matured over the years, though it has some bloatware, the software improvements for the camera and AI augmentation makes a good bet and alternative to the stock android.

The Huawei P20 Pro packs a huge 4000 mAH battery, which will get you through the whole day like breeze. WIth a giant display and battery, it weighs only 180 gm with 7.8 mm thickness and feels good in the hand. Coming to charging, Huawei’s SuperCharging tech is in place on the P20 Pro and a massive 4A charger in the box. It comes with IP67 protection to protect it from dust and water. It does not have a headphone jack and comes with a type C to 3.5 mm converter in the box.

Overall, a perfect and a practical flagship device, with the mettle to beat likes the iPhone, Pixel and Samsung. Will the users like this piece of innovation? The time will tell.

Brief Review:

Asus has partnered with Flipkart to launch exclusive smartphones for next 3 years. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is the first smartphone to be launched under the partnership. The Zenfone Max Pro M1 has specs similar to Redmi Note 5 Pro which has been doing very well in the Indian market. Let's take a look at the brief review of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.

Below is an overview of Zenfone Max Pro. If you are interested to know more about this phone take a look at our in-depth review of Asus Zenfone Max Pro.

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a 5.99-inch display with Full HD+ resolution. The display has 450 nits brightness and is very colourful and vivid. The viewing angles are good as well. The display is covered with a 2.5D glass which gives it a premium look. Asus has reduced the bezels on the top and bottom so the overall size of the phone is still same as a 5.5-inch device. The design is bit boring though. You get metal unibody design so nothing special or new here. The phone weighs 180 grams which is surprising considering the massive 5000 mah battery it carries. Overall, the phone feels good in the hand.

Let's talk about the battery which is the USP of this device. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a large 5000 mah battery which will provide a battery backup of 2 to 3 days on a single charge. If you hate charging your phone every day then you are going to love Max Pro M1. Asus claims that it can run Youtube for 20 hours. The phone comes with a 10-watt charger and it charging time is expected to be little less than 3 hours. The charging time is decent considering the large battery size.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a dual 13MP + 5MP rear camera with a 1.12-micron pixel size for better low light performance. The camera performance is good under daylight outdoor conditions. The pictures look colorful with a good amount of details. The camera can take portrait mode pictures as well. In our initial tests, the bokeh effect looked good with proper edge detection. The rear camera can also record 4K videos. Asus claims that this is the best camera in class. We would wait for an in-depth comparison with Redmi Note 5 Pro which has an excellent camera setup both on the front and back.

The selfie camera on the Zenfone Max Pro M1 is an 8MP shooter with a LED flash. The front camera is a decent performer in outdoor lighting. Under low lighting conditions or artificial lighting, the selfie camera performance is average.

The chipset inside the Zenfone Max Pro M1 is Snapdragon 636 which was launched globally with Redmi Note 5 Pro. The SD636 chipset is very powerful and can handle any task you throw at it. Using multiple apps and games is going to be a breeze. Thanks to the powerful chipset, Zenfone Max Pro M1 scores around 116000 on the Antutu Benchmarks which is a bit higher than the score of Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Asus is taking audio quality very seriously as well. There is a Maxxbox which amplifies the sound by 2X. For audio via 3.5 mm jack, Asus has added an NXP audio chipset which improves the sound quality. Sound quality is usually not given importance in the mid-range devices so it is good to see Asus doing something different here to improve the user experience.

On Software side, you get pure Android Oreo on Zenfone Max Pro M1. This is a great step from Asus. There is almost no bloatware on the device. Asus promises to provide next 2 big Android updates as well. So you will get Android P and Android Q

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes in 2 variants: 32GB storage and 3GB RAM variant would cost your Rs. 10999 and 64GB - 4GB variant will cost you 12999 only. This is excellent pricing from Asus. Asus has used LPDDR4X RAM which should improve the overall experience. If you are a heavy user then go for the 4GB RAM variant as the extra 1 gig of RAM should help a lot in multi-tasking. The MicroSD slot is dedicated so you can use 2 sim cards with a MicroSD card.

Overall, we think Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is an impressive device. It comes with the latest display, powerful chipset, decent cameras, pure Android. Multitasking is great and the battery lasts for 2 days. It is clearly one of the best phones in this price range.

It will be available on Flipkart from 3rd May. A new 6GB RAM variant with better camera setup will be launched after some time at Rs. 14999.

9. Smartron t.phone P

t.phone P

Features

  • 3 GB RAM | 32 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 128 GB
  • 5.2 inch HD Display 720p
  • Back Camera: 13MP
  • Front Camera: 5MP
  • 5000mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Black Colors

Best Price ₹7999

Brief Review:

Smartron t.phone P is the latest device in the Indian market and it will go on sale on Flipkart on 17th Jan. Smartron t.phone P has a long and confusing name. A simple name like Smartron P would have been better. It has been priced at 7999. Let's take a look at what it offers.

Smartron t phone P comes with a metallic build which feels good in the hand. The battery inside the phone is massive at 5000 mAh. Even with this large battery, the phone doesn't feel heavy. Its weight is 160g and thickness is under 9mm. So Smartron has done a good job by keeping the weight low. The phone feels comfortable in the hand and is easy to use.

The display on the front is 5.2-inch display with 720p HD resolution. The display is good for the price with good colors and decent viewing angles. The 5.2-inch display size makes the phone handy and can be used with one hand.

For security, there is a fingerprint sensor on the back of Smartron t phone P which is quick and accurate.

On the camera side, you will see a 13MP sensor at the back and 5MP camera sensor at the front. The camera performance is average as there is a lot of noise in indoor low light pictures. Outdoor shots look better though. The front camera has similar performance as well. As the Smartron t.phone P is priced under 8000 we can't complain much.

Inside the Smartron t.phone P, we have a Snapdragon 435 chipset with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The storage can be increased with a MicroSD card but the sim slot is hybrid so you cannot use 2 sim cards and a MicroSD at the same time. The SD435 is a decent entry-level chipset and with 3GB of RAM, it can handle multitasking with ease. Popular games also run well and there was no lag. So overall performance of the device is very decent and no complaints regarding that.

The Smartron t.phone P scores around 45000 on Antutu benchmark and  686/2647 single-core/multi-core on the Geekbench benchmark. These scores are similar to other phones in this segment like the Redmi 4 and Redmi Y1. Lenovo K8 Plus runs on Mediatek chipset and scores more than 60000 on Antutu so it is more powerful than Smartron t.phone P.

The battery inside the phone is massive 5000 mAh. Coupled with a 720p display and efficient Snapdragon 435 chipset, it is an excellent recipe for excellent battery backup. You can expect 2-3 days of backup on a single charge. The phone comes with a 5V 2Amp charger so charging time of the device will be around 3 hours.

The Smartron t.phone P is not waterproof or dustproof no IP rating is there. It would be a good idea to keep it away from water and sand.

Overall, Smartron t.phone P is a value for money device with a massive battery. If you hate charging your phone and your budget is around 8000 then go for it. If you like Redmi then Redmi 4 is a great option. If you can spend little more then go for Lenovo K8 Plus(See review) which is more powerful and comes with a dual camera and if you like to take selfies then you should go for Redmi Y1(See review) as it comes with a great front camera.

Brief Review:

Infinix after the success of budget smartphones Infinix Note 4 and Infinix Hot 4 Pro in the Indian market, has launched mid-range smartphones Infinix Zero 5 and Infinix Zero 5 Pro. As is evident from the specs, it has everything that a phone user looks for. Let's find out how it delivers to what the specs promise in our Infinix Zero 5 Pro review.

Infinix Zero 5 Pro has a metal unibody design which looks sleek and stylish and feels good in the hand, it has a 5.98-inch Full HD display which is protected by a  2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The color reproduction and viewing angles of the device are good and you won't face any issues.

As with all the phones launched in 2017 that got a thumbs up in the various review, Infinix Zero 5 Pro has also put a special focus on the camera quality. The rear camera is a dual camera setup which is a combination of 12MP Wide Angle and 13MP Telephoto lens which has f2.0 aperture with 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom. The camera supports various mode like portrait, panorama, professional etc. In our initial camera review of Infinix Zero 5 Pro, we found the image quality to be brilliant in the daylight, the colours are punchier, natural and delivers well to the expectations but in the low light the camera struggled a bit and we could see some minor noise in the images.

The front camera of Infinix Zero 5 Pro is a 16MP shooter with front flash and supports bokeh mode, the front camera also delivers well and clicks clear selfies with good colour reproductions. Both the front and rear camera support video up to 1080p but the video as well struggle a bit in the low light condition. The rear camera in Infinix Zero 5 Pro supports OIS which works perfectly fine and the video is not shaky when shooting while moving.

Talking about the performance review of the device, Infinix Zero 5 Pro is powered by Octa Core 2.6GHz Mediatek Helio P25 MT6757 Chipset. The Antutu benchmark score of the device is around 66000 which is similar to benchmark scores seen in Lenovo P2, Mi A1. This score is similar to the score of Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. It looks like Infinix looks to add a lot of things into the phone by compromising a few points on the processing power side. We did a few initial tests and review with the gaming on the Infinix Zero 5, but to our surprise, given the MediaTek chipset, there was no lag or frame drops or heating issues observed. Looks like Infinix has managed the internal software and heat dissipation efficiently.

Zero 5 Pro comes with 6GB of RAM, that makes multitasking a breeze. It has a massive internal storage of 128GB which can be expanded with a dedicated micro SD card of up to 128GB, along with dual sim usage. So if you are someone who likes to store a lot of pictures, videos and songs then Infinix Zero 5 Pro is a good option for you.

Inifiniz Zero 5 Pro comes with XOS which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat but the company has promised an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo. In XOS, the company has added inbuilt features like an anti-theft system, split screen mode and smart interactions. The software is clean with some limited bloatware, the UI is fast and easy to use. The fingerprint sensor is on the back which is quick and accurate, takes about half a second to unlock.

The battery size of Infinix Zero 5 Pro is rated at 4350 mAH, it is huge and easily lasts for more than a day with normal usage. It comes with a 18W fast charger which is capable of a very quick charge of a full battery in around 1.5 hours and USB type C which assists fast charging and fast data transfer. Infinix Zero 5 does not have IP rating and is not IP 67 or IP 68 certified so it is not waterproof and should be used accordingly.

One thing that Infinix Zero 5 Pro misses from the trend is the Bezel-less display, we have seen phones like Honor 9i (Check full review), which is one brilliantly crafted smartphone, priced in the similar range coming with the bezel-less display. Zero 5 though looks good but at Suggest Phone we think bezel-less display would have raised the level of looks. The company would have surely thought of this and maybe restricted itself to save the cost for other features added to the phone.

Overall in our first complete review of Infinix Zero 5 Pro, we found the smartphone has a tradeoff between performance, camera and looks. The phone performs decently well in all the departments and so if anyone is looking for a well-settled phone, with a metal body, huge RAM for multitasking, fast charging and big screen, you can go for this.

With the launch of Inifnix Zero 5, Infinix has also launched Infinix QuietX (XE05) Headset with Mic and Infinix Quiet 2 (XE02) Headset with Mic which are focussed on noise reduction with some great new features.
