Looking for a smartphone with face recognition feature? You are at the right place. In this article have covered the top 10 best phones with face unlock in India. Price of these smartphones varies from Rs. 10000 to Rs. 90000. So if you are looking for a face unlock smartphone under 10000, 15000, 20000 or 30000, you will find plenty of options.

If you are looking for phones in 10000 to 15000 segment then take a look at best face unlock phones under 10000 and 15000 in India.

Face recognition feature has been there for quite some time but it took off after iPhone X was launched last year. Now, almost all latest phones are coming with face unlock. Face unlock is a useful feature and it does reduce fingerprint usage. You just have to look at the device and it unlocks. The negative point about face lock is that someone who looks similar to you, might be able to unlock the phone and sometimes the phone can be unlocked by using a picture as well.

Only Apple iPhone X has dedicated hardware for face unlock. All other phones rely on the front selfie camera for unlocking. The dedicated hardware on iPhone X makes it much faster and secure than on other devices. Still, other devices also perform well and most of them unlock the device in less than a second.

Let's take a look at the best face unlock phones available in India.

Brief Review:

Vivo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is on a streak of launching some great smartphones, painting the full display screen and notch over the world. Vivo Y83, launched recently in India is not exactly a budget device but falls slightly above the mark in sub ₹ 15k range, which is a pretty fiery segment to be competing in with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro and many more, Could Vivo Y83 best them all? Let’s find out.

If you have been around the Vivo camp for a while, you know about the company’s conspicuous ‘inspirations’ from Cupertino boys. It’s time to face the truth that abhor it, love It, notches are the new cool and Vivo knows how to play with brand value and style status. Ergo, we find the full view, notched, 6.22 inch IPS LCD display on the Vivo Y83 with a super tall aspect ratio of 19:9. The display as goes full stretch to the ends with a noticeable chin at the bottom.

The display has a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels which clocks in a pixel density of 270 PPI. We expected better but nonetheless, the display is bright and gives a satisfactory viewing experience, with decent viewing angles and nothing marvellous. The sunlight readability is not quite legit, though. The metal back with matte finish looks not so flashy but feels good in hands. The design is not very striking, with curved edges but It is quite comfortable to hold. The shiny metal finish rim encloses volume controls, sleep/wake button on the sides and to our satisfaction, a 3.5mm jack on the bottom with standard MicroUSB port for charging. If you’ve seen Vivo V9, X21 then Y83 feels quite similar. At just 7.7mm thick, Y83 is quite sleek and weighs just 150 grams which is quite appreciable for a smartphone over 6-inches.

Vivo Y83 is powered by the latest MediaTek processor: Helio P22 which is built on 12nm process and provides good performance and power efficiency. Vivo Y83 scores around 70000 on Antutu benchmarks which is similar to the phones powered by Snapdragon 625 or 630. Vivo Y83 performs well and just rolls over all the workloads we could through at It. No lags, no stutters. The system performance is smooth and fluid at all times even with a plethora of apps running at tandem, thanks to 4GB of RAM.

The smartphone comes with 32GB of onboard storage which can be easily expanded to 256GB via MicroSD. In our first impressions, we found casual gaming to be quite smooth and free-flowing, we are not too confident about heavy gaming yet. Stay tuned for the full review. In all, the smartphone seems like a stunner in performance with some clouds over gaming performance but Its quite above the danger mark though.

The primary camera on the Vivo Y83 is a 13 MP (f/2.2) sensor with LED Flash and It is like every budget mediocre camera out there, nothing out of the line, satisfactory shots with some good detail but plenty of noise. Low-light photos are full of grains, It is practically just surviving in harsh lighting conditions. The front sensor is in the same tune with 8 MP (f/2.2) sensor which does a pretty decent selfie job and again, in low-lights its just shooting out in the wild with superb noise levels. Vivo has something called AI beautification mode, which is supposedly meant to enhance selfies, we didn’t find a whole lot ‘AI’ involved in the process, It was more a softening and adding beauty filters process much like most camera apps in Play Store do.

Let's talk about software now. Vivo software skin called FunTouch OS on top of Android Oreo 8.1 run the show on this smartphone. FunTouch OS is another element of Vivo ideology that is inspired heavily from iOS, even to elemental things like the app icons. It just takes it so much towards iOS and so far from Android that the user feels in a limbo. It is heavily bloated and it is not an amazing feeling swiping through the screens and using gestures as they are not very smooth and kinda stick sometimes which is really annoying. There are a host of minor nagging issues here and there in the skin which sums up resulting in quite a struggling experience. Vivo can love iOS and Apple all they want but they need to refine. It has been long since FunTouch received a meaningful upgrade, Vivo folks really need to up their game in software to craft a utopian experience around their devices.

Vivo Y83 comes with a non-removable 3260mAH battery which is decent enough for a day on medium use, If you are a pusher, carrying a charger would be the best policy as this device won’t last an entire day on heavy use. There’s a MicroUSB port on the bottom of the device for charging, what’s sad is that there is no fast charging, which makes charging this device a long process occupying nearly 2.5-3 hours. The single downward firing speaker on the bottom beside the charging port gets loud enough. It pumps well-balanced sound with decent clarity. Vivo Y83 also Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, so the in-call noise is reduced and It works nicely.

In your interest, you are hereby informed that there is no IP rating for the smartphone, so It would be nice to keep it way far from liquids and dust to ensure Its life and working capacity. Since there’s is all the notch and full-screen display, you might have been missing some FaceID ripoff and Vivo doesn’t disappoint. There is face unlock feature going by the name of Face Access and It works perfectly in most scenarios except low-lighting conditions.

Vivo Y83 is priced at ₹ 14,990 and Customers can get the smartphone from any offline retail store or from Amazon, or the company's official website. At this price, we think it is a good option for those who are looking for a big display phone with a notch. The phone performs well in multitasking and casual gaming as well but it is not the best in this range for those use-cases. The camera performance is also decent in daylight conditions but low light images can be disappointing.

Beautiful Design, Nice Display, Good Performance, Dedicated MicroSD makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

Brief Review:

From OnePlus One in 2014 to OnePlus 6 in 2018, OnePlus has come a long way. OnePlus One was a stunning device with flagship specs at less than half the price. Things have changed a lot from then. OnePlus used to have no advertising budget and the OnePlus One offered very high value for money. Now, OnePlus spends a good amount on advertising and the price is going up every year. The price has increased by around 70% in last 4 years but OnePlus has managed to build a following so people don't really seem to mind the price increase. Let's talk about the latest OnePlus 6 now.

OnePlus 6 is probably the most beautiful phone made by OnePlus. The mirror black variant has a glass back and looks gorgeous. It is a bit slippery though which is obvious because of the glass back. There's also a Midnight black color and White color as well. The display on the front is 6.28 inches AMOLED panel with 19:9 aspect ratio. OnePlus has jumped on to the notch trend. If you hate the notch then there's an option in settings to remove it. The resolution of the display is still Full HD 2280x1080p. The display is sharp, bright and vibrant and we have no complaints. The display is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 which will protect it from scratches.

The cameras on the OnePlus 6 are same as the ones on OnePlus 5T. The pixel size has improved though which means low light pictures would be better. There is a f/2.0 16MP selfie camera on the front with 1um pixel size. There is EIS on the front camera as well which means videos will be stable. The front camera performance is good with good amount of details and accurate color reproduction. You can also take bokeh/portrait mode selfies from the front camera. The front camera is also being used for face unlocking which seems to work well.

The camera setup on the back is 16MP+20MP dual setup with same f/1.7 aperture. OnePlus is not using any telephoto lens or wide angle lens as the second sensor. The secondary sensor is just there to increase the level of details and improve low light performance. The primary 16MP sensor has both OIS and EIS which means the stabilization will be excellent. You can also record 4K videos at 60FPS and slow-motion videos are also supported at 240FPS 1080p and 480FPS at 720p. The camera performance of the OnePlus 6 is excellent. The portrait mode shots have a decent amount of blur with good edge detection.

The hardware inside the OnePlus 6 is very powerful. You get the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6 or 8GB of RAM and 64, 128 or 256 GB of storage depending on which variant you choose. The device is blazing fast. The apps open and close really quick. No matter what kind or how many apps or games you open and use, you won't notice any kind of lag on this device. The performance is visible in benchmark scores as well. The OnePlus 6 scores around 270000 on Antutu Benchmark which is one of the highest scores as of May 2018. On Geekbench, OnePlus 6 scores around 2500 on a single core and around 9000 on multi-core.

The battery inside the OnePlus 6 is 3300 mAh battery which is same as the one we saw on OnePlus 5T. The Snapdragon 845 is more efficient than the SD835 but the screen area on the 6 has increased so you will get almost same backup as 5T. On a single charge, it will last for a day with ease. If you are a heavy user then the Dash charging will come to your rescue. It can charge the device to 50% in just 30 minutes which is crazy quick.

The OnePlus 6 is running on Oxygen OS which is almost stock Android 8.1 with some useful features and no bloatware as all. Powerful hardware and stock android helps OnePlus 6 to deliver great experience.

For audio, there are speakers at the bottom and the 3.5mm audio jack is still there. It is great to see that OnePlus is not throwing the jack away for no reasons as all like some of the other brands did.

The OnePlus 6 comes in 3 variants. The 6GB RAM 64GB storage will cost you 34999, the 8GB 128GB will cost you 39999 and the 8GB 256GB variant will cost you 44999 in India.

Overall, OnePlus 6 is an impressive device. It is not a big upgrade over 5T. The display is larger, the camera is a bit better and the internal hardware is even more powerful. It is a great device but we won't call it a flagship killer because the display is still 1080p, still no wireless charging and still no IP rating. OnePlus needs to work on those areas to make it a true flagship killer.

Premium Design, Powerful Hardware, Vibrant Display, Great Cameras makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

3. Oppo Realme 1

Realme 1

Features

  • 6 GB RAM | 128 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 6 inch Full HD Plus Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 13MP
  • Front Camera: 8MP
  • 3410mAh Battery

  • Available in Diamond Black, Solar Red Colors

Best Price ₹13990

Brief Review:

Realme 1 is an Oppo branded smartphone which comes with a very attractive pricing and features. This phone will be sold exclusively via Amazon and if you want to grow above the likes of Xiaomi, this phone can totally fill the gap. Let us find out what all it holds in this review.

From the design perspective, Realme 1 has a 6 inch Full HD Plus display with a bezel-less display and 18:9 aspect ratio. The display quality is amazing with perfect colour reproduction and clarity. On the back, it has a glass finish with glossy effect and a diamond cut pattern (as seen on the Oppo F7 and Oppo A83) that looks completely beautiful but is also a bit of a fingerprint magnet. On the design front, this is a great looking smartphone.

Let us now talk about the performance, this Realme 1 from Oppo uses a very powerful processor Helio P60 from MediaTek that scores around 135000 on the Antutu Benchmark. This score indicates the Helio P60 powering the Oppo Realme 1 beats the likes of Redmi Note 5 Pro which is powered by Snapdragon 636. The Antutu score depicts the performance of the phone and with our usage we found the phone to be replicating the same. It gave a powerful performance with not even a slightest of lag or issue with any sort of multitasking.

In the Camera department, Realme 1 comes with a single rear sensor of 13MP with LED flash and an 8 MP sensor on the front. The rear camera images have a good amount of details but when the images are zoomed in, there is a bit of noise that can be seen. The Realme 1 uses AI and beautification mode to enhance the images. On the front camera, we again have the option of bokeh effect, the image quality is good with sharp colours and clarity. Both the rear and the front camera features AR stickers.  Comparing the camera performance, the Redmi Note 5 Pro camera absolutely stands out in both rear and front camera with punchier details and better clarity but Oppo Realme 1 camera is much better than the Redmi Note 5.

This smartphone uses Color OS 5.0 as its operating system which is based on Android 8.1. This is the same operating system version seen on oppo F7. There is very little bloatware and comes with some much-needed features that ease the use of your phone.

Oppo Realme 1 comes with face unlocking using the front camera but does not have a fingerprint sensor. Face unlocking is becoming more popular nowadays with most of the smartphone featuring it and users have been comfortable in using it. So the removal of fingerprint sensor should not be a roadblock for this phone but is a move from Oppo to cut down the cost and offer a great price. It is a dual sim phone with a dedicated SD Card slot that can be expanded up to 256 GB.  It also has a 3.5 mm headphone jack but no Type C port.

This phone has a battery of 3410 mAH which can easily last for a day with normal usage. Oppo claims that the phone has AI battery management features which learns as per the usage beahiour and shuts down the background apps to enhance the battery backup. Realme 1 does not support fast charging and will take about 130-150 minutes for a full charge. This smartphone from Oppo weighs only 155 gm and feels comfortable in hand. There is no IP rating on Realme 1 so you will have to keep the phone safe from dust and water.

Let us now talk about the pricing, this smartphone from Oppo comes in 3 variants of 3GB/32GB variant priced at Rs 8999, 4GB/64GB variant priced at Rs 10999, 6GB/128GB variant priced at Rs 13999. The pricing as per specification this phone offers is very competitive and holds the mettle to rake in very good sales and demand.

This Oppo Realme 1 is a powerful beast and the variant are a great value for money. It has perfect looks, performance and a decent camera for the price range. If you have a budget of under 10000 or under 12000, then buying the Oppo Realme 1 makes a lot of sense as you get the same processor(in 3GB and 4GB model) and features which actually stands out when compared with any other phone in the price range of 10000.

If you are looking on this phone with a perspective of the camera, then it is a bit of disappointment, especially when comparing the 6GB model priced similarly with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, 4 GB model having a top-notch camera quality.  But on the other side, if the camera is not your topmost priority but you are looking for a power house, then the 6GB model at the pricing of 13999 can happily suffice your requirements.

Beautiful Design, Full HD Plus Display, Performance Beast, Dedicated Sd Card Slot makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

Brief Review:

Its 2018 and Notch-iness is all over the mobile world, thanks to Apple for being such a force. (Phew.) Oppo launched F7 in March 2018 and added one more device to the list of Androids sporting the infamous iPhone X notch design. The smartphone is all about modern design with bezels pushed to the ends and that cute little notch up top, guess what, Its looks very much like the iPhone X. The smartphone has a giant 6.2- inch, LTPS IPS LCD display with a 1080 x 2280 pixels resolution, packing a pixel density of ~405 PPI, we don’t need to say now that the display is just gorgeous. Even with that giant display the smartphone is just 7.8mm thick and weighs 158 grams, and fits comfortably in hands. There are some bezels up top and bottom. The display is protected by a Gorilla Glass 5. The build is fairly solid, a plastic unibody design. The notch houses the selfie camera and a bunch of other sensors.

Under the hood, Oppo F7 has a MediaTek Helio P60 running the cause. Helio P60 appears to be a very capable SoC on paper with 8 cores out of which 4 are high-performance Cortex A73s while the other 4 are high-efficiency Cortex A53s, all clocked at 2.0GHz. To serve all your gaming needs there’s a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, which is not as good as Adreno on Snapdragons but gets the job done. Oppo F7 comes in two variants with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage and the other one having 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The specifications are really impressive and give good vibes about this smartphone.

The smartphone runs on Android Oreo out of the box with Oppo’s age-old ColorOS skin on top, which just doesn’t make the cut. When put under tests, the Oppo F7 scored as follows - On GeekBench 4, 1533 in single core drives and 5845 in multi-core. On AnTuTu, the Oppo F7 scores around 137000. The smartphone overpowers Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro in both GeekBench and Antutu. The smartphone has power and responsiveness, It works smoothly in everyday tasks and gaming isn’t a problem as well.

Talking about cameras, as Oppo calls Itself a camera ‘expert’, the device features a single 16MP, a f/1.8 sensor with LED flash at the back and a large 25MP,f/2.0 sensor at the front for selfies. Oppo seems to have really shown some confidence in single sensor setup this time as the results show, the camera outperforms Vivo V9, another notch-featuring contemporary. The low-light shots are great thanks to the wider aperture on the Oppo F7. The story continues with the selfie camera as well. The shots are rich, vibrant and well balanced. As there’s no secondary rear sensor, Oppo uses software tricks for the much-touted bokeh effect, which as you would have guessed doesn’t hit the spot.

The smartphone packs a 3400mAh battery, which is pretty average now-days, we are devastated that this neo-modern smartphone from Oppo shows no signs of fast charging, hell there’s MicroUSB 2.0 instead of USB-C. Thankfully, there’s a headphone jack. And to your caution, there’s no IP rating on this one so keep it as far from liquids as possible. Thanks to the power efficient chipset, Oppo F7 battery backup is great. With medium usage, you can expect 1.5 days of backup on a single charge. With light usage, it will last for even 2 days.

The smartphone is priced at ₹ 21,990 and It is not the best deal around but It is certainly one of the satisfying ones at the price. Oppo is giving a gorgeous smartphone with latest features at the decent price. Go for it if you need a gorgeous looking smartphone with good cameras, a powerful processor at around 20k.

Large Bezelless Display, Powerful Chipset, Good Camera Perormance, Dedicated MicroSD makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

  • 6.3 inch Full HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 16MP + 5MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 24MP
  • 3260mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Gold, Black Colors

Best Price ₹20990

Brief Review:

Vivo V9 is the latest smartphone launched by Vivo on 23rd March 2018. Vivo has always been focused towards the selfie camera, but this time, in addition to the Selfie Camera, Vivo has come up with many new features and yeah the notch as well. In terms of design, V9 looks mesmerizingly beautiful with a bezel-less display of 6.3 Inches Full HD+ display having 1080 x 2280 resolution. It is a FullView Display panel with19:9 aspect ratio (90% Body to Screen Ratio) and a notch at the top similar to iPhone X, but is smaller and narrower.

Talking about the specifications, Vivo V9 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 which scores approximately 67000 on the Antutu Benchmark Score. It has 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 256 GB with a dedicated SD card slot and Dual sim usage.

In the camera department, Vivo V9 has a rear dual sensor of 16MP and 5MP which is placed vertically on the back. The Rear Camera produces perfect bokeh shots and uses AI techniques to improvise on the images. The dual camera has a wide angle lens so you can capture more in a single shot.  You can even shoot first and focus later, transforming every photo into an artistic masterpiece.

The front camera is a 24 MP sensor and reflects the inclination of Vivo towards Selfie, the selfie also supports depth/bokeh effect using Artifical Intelligence(AI) .V9 comes with AI Face Beauty that uses Machine Learning to find users' age, skin tone, sex and other features to "truly represent the person beauty". It also features a Selfie Lighting feature as was seen in iPhone X. So you will never be short of a great camera and selfie images anytime. It also has AR stickers for selfies which is just like Snapchat filters.

Vivo V9 also puts emphasis AI Smart Engine that is responsible to handle storage and app launching based on user behavior and AI Attention Scanning that lowers the volume of notification when the user is looking on the display. In terms of unlocking, it comes with a fingerprint sensor on the back and also supports face unlocking that again uses AI and Machine Learning (AI Face Access) that improves the accuracy of the Face Unlock Feature. Both the methods work smoothly and have very good accuracy.

On the Software front, Vivo V9 runs on Funtouch OS 4.0 which is a custom skin built over Android Oreo 8.1. The UI is clean and comes with many software features to ease your day to day activities. The battery of Vivo V9 is rated at 3290mAH and given the big screen size it lasts only for a day. Fast Charging is supported in Vivo V9 with the mobile getting fully charged in less than 1.5 hours  The battery is not a huge one to keep the check on the thickness and weight which just measure 7.9 mm and 150gm respectively. Vivo V9 is not water resistant or dust proof as it does not have any IP rating.

So if you are looking for a great camera setup and Fun of AI in your life, you can go for it, there is only one small disappointment that it runs 2 years old Snapdragon 626 which has been preceded by Snapdragon 630 and 636. Still, the overall performance is good and you won't face any lags while multi-tasking or gaming.

It is available both on Flipkart and Amazon at 22990 with different offers which can be checked on the links above. Overall, it is a great looking smartphone with excellent cameras. Go for it if your budget is around 25000.

Launch Offer on Flipkart: Flipkart is offering extra 2000 off on exchange. Plus, 5% instant discount (Rs. 1150) if you pay with HDFC cards. 0% Interest EMI also available.

Launch Offer on Amazon: Amazon is also offering extra 2000 off on exchange. Plus, 5% cashback in Amazon Pay if you with any credit or debit card. 0% Interest EMI also available.

Great Design and Looks, Cool Camera Features, Supports Fast Charging, Dedicated Sd card slot makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

Brief Review:

Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus is an Amazon Exclusive Product and another budget flagship smartphone that comes with latest features and upgrades. Samsung is finally following the Bezel Less (18:9 Aspect Ratio) trend and this smartphone supports a 6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display. This phone comes with a unibody metal design which has very premium design and build quality, you would simply love it holding in the hand. The display also looks good with vibrant colours and good viewing angles. This Samsung Smartphone also supports an Always On Display which looks beautiful.

Let us now check the performance, camera and other important aspects of this phone.

Samsung Galaxy A8+ is powered by an Octa-core Exynos 7885 which has an Antutu Benchmark Score of 132496 which lacks way behind when compared to a similarly priced OnePlus 5T (Antutu 1,70,000) which has a 2017 best Processor(Qualcomm Snapdragon 835). In the speed test, obviously, OnePlus 5T wins by a margin but in the normal day to day usage you will not find any issues with the multitasking as the smartphone is powered by a 6GB of RAM (good work from Samsung for moving from 4GB to 6GB in mid-range flagship devices). It comes with an internal memory of 64GB with a dedicated SD card slot and dual sim feature so you can expand the memory and use it as a proper Dual Sim smartphone

Let us now look at the camera of this Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus, it comes with a single rear camera sensor of 16MP (f/1.7) and on the front, it has a dual sensor setup of 16MP and 8MP. So it looks like Samsung it focussing on the selfie-centric phone and ditching the trend of having a dual camera setup at the back.

The rear-facing camera performed really well in the outdoor lighting conditions with the images being sharp and good color reproduction but in the artificial lighting conditions, it struggles a lot of time and the images are blurry as the phone does not support Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) which is really saddening considering the price point this phone comes at. The other disappointing aspect of the rear camera of Galaxy A8 Plus is that it does not support 4K video, which should have been available at this price point.

While when it comes to a front camera, with the dual camera setup it is capable of bokeh effects and it comes with live focus where you can adjust the blur of the background, it has full view to capture images from the full 6-inch screen and the performance is also great, you certainly get better selfie than other phones in this price range.

On the software front, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus comes with Experience UI as was seen in Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S8+ and Samsung Note 8. With 6GB of RAM, the performance would be smooth with this UI and you would find easy and swift usage. The gaming performance is also perfectly smooth with no heating at all observed in the heavy games.

On the back of the phone, there is a fingerprint sensor which is really fast and accurate and unlocks the phone in a snap but the position of the sensor is somewhat little above the comfort level of your hand. you would have to stretch a bit to get your finger reach to the sensor. This Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus also supports face unlocking, where it uses the front camera to unlock, it is fast but not secured enough as on the iPhone X which has a dedicated hardware for face unlocking.

Talking about the most important aspect of the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus is the IP rating as this phone is IP68 Certified making it completely dust and water resistant giving you a peice of mind. Know more about IP68 here.

In the battery department, this phone supports a 3500mAH battery which easily lasts for over a day in normal usage. The battery life is certainly 20% higher than the OnePlus 5T as the processor in Samsung Galaxy A8+ is weaker than on the OnePlus 5T and hence lesser power requirements.

In the box, you get an in-ear style headset, Type C USB cable and a plastic case, and a fast charger which supports (9V 1.6A or 5V 2A). So the Galaxy A8 Plus supports fast charging and can charge a phone in less than 1.5 hours.

On the speaker side, it comes with a single speaker that is located near the power on-off button. The speaker performance is brilliant, it is stable and quite loud and feels perfect while gaming, watching videos etc.

We would recommend this only if you are looking for a Samsung Smartphone that has brilliant build quality, a fairly good selfie camera and IP68 protection. It is a big no if you are looking for a phone with a good rear camera, you can look at OnePlus 5T or Honor View 10, which have an equivalent build quality and design but are not IP68 Certified.

Also if you are looking for a Samsung flagship device, you can take a look at Samsung Galaxy S7 which is around 2 years old now but is a more practical device in all the departments and still has that shine of a premium phone with one the best camera and build quality. You can get it from Flipkart for around 25000 now (it was launched at Rs 60,000) and has a good value for money.

Premium Build and Design, Dual Front Camera, Supports Fast Charging, IP68 Certified makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

Brief Review:

Honor 9 Lite is the latest smartphone in India from Huawei/Honor in the budget segment of around Rs. 10000-15000. Before this, we have seen 3 launches from Honor in last 4 months. The first one was Honor 9i, the second was Honor 7X and third was Honor View 10. We liked all those devices, now let's take a look at Honor 9 Lite.

Honor 9 Lite looks stunning. The phone is covered with glass on the front and back and has a very glossy finish. Yes, it is prone to fingerprints but when it is clean, it looks gorgeous. I don't remember the last time we saw a budget device that was this beautiful. If you are wondering which color is the best then my first choice would be Blue, then grey and then black. This is just a personal preference. Go with the color you like most.

The build of the phone is solid and it feels good in the hand. We have a 5.65-inch full view display with Full HD+ resolution. The display is large but the phone isn't because of the smaller bezels. You won't face any issues with one hand usage. The phone is slippery because of glass design so that might be a problem.

The aspect ratio of the display is 18:9 which is something we are seeing in all latest smartphones. The display is covered with 2.5D glass. Once again, we don't know whether there is tempered gorilla glass or not. Looking at Honor's past record, we think it is not a gorilla glass so getting a tempered glass for your Honor 9 Lite would be a good idea.

The Honor 9 Lite comes powered by 2.36 GHz Octa-Core Kirin 659 processor, which is a powerful processor capable of handling all the normal multitasking swiftly. We have seen the same chipset on the recently launched Honor 7X and Honor 9i. The chipset performs well and is efficient as well so we don't have any complaints. On Antutu benchmarks you will see a score of around 62000.

The multitasking Honor 9 Lite assisted by 3 or 4GB of RAM depending on which variant you buy. It comes with 32/64 GB of internal memory. Plus there is a MicroSD card slot which can be used to increase the storage by up to 256GB. The slot is hybrid so you can either use 2 sims cards or 1 sim card and a MicroSD card. We hate the concept of the hybrid slot because it limits the functionality of the device.

The USP of the device is the camera setup. Honor 9 Lite has a dual rear camera and dual front camera, The rear camera is a 13MP + 2MP dual camera while the front camera is a 13MP + 2MP dual camera. the dual camera setup allows additional effects to be added to the photos clicked. Both camera setups have an RGB camera sensor and a monochrome camera sensor. Details are captured from both cameras to make images sharper. Plus, they help to give a bokeh/depth effect to your pictures also known as portrait mode. We have seen the same camera setup before on Honor 7X and 9i and the performance are same. The pictures are nice in outdoor lighting. The bokeh effect also looks good in pictures from both front and rear cameras. The camera performance under low light conditions is average which is expected from a smartphone in this price range. Overall, we think the camera performance is decent and you won't be disappointed.

Honor 9 Lite also supports the feature as seen in other Honor phones where the image background can be blurred even after clicking the image. This feature is really good as you can blur the background to your liking after taking the picture.

For security, the back of the phone supports an active fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. The fingerprint sensor is fast and responsive and you are not going to face any issues with it.

The Honor 9 Lite runs EMUI 8 which is a skin based on Android 8 Oreo. EMUI has some useful customizations like drawing an S for a long screenshot to capture an entire web page, tap twice with one finger for a screenshot, and tap twice with two fingers for screen recording. These small features can be very useful. There is some bloatware on the device but those apps can be uninstalled.

The handset supports 3000mAH battery which should be sufficient for more than a day for normal usage. It comes with a 5V 2Amp charger and there is some kind of fast charging so you can expect your device to charge from 0 to 100% in around 2 hours.

Honor 9 Lite is not waterproof or dustproof so there is no IP rating for this device. Keeping it away from water and dust would be a good idea.

Honor 9 Lite comes in 2 variants: 3GB-32GB and 4GB-64GB priced at 10999 and 14999 respectively. It will be available on Flipkart from 21st Jan.

Overall, Honor 9 Lite looks like a great looking budget device with decent overall performance and nice dual cameras on both sides. If you like to take selfies then you should consider this device. Even if you do not click selfies, the premium build, beautiful display, lag-free performance makes it a great option in this price range.

This was a brief overview of Honor 9 Lite. We have a done a detailed review as well. Check out the detailed review of Honor 9 Lite.

Other options in this range include Mi A1 and Moto G5S Plus. We think Honor 9 Lite is a better option because of better processor, better and larger display and dual front camera which is not there in other devices.

Beautiful Glass Design, Gorgeous Display, Dual Back Camera, Dual Front Camera makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

Brief Review:

LG launched Its flagship of the year, LG V30+ in August 2017. Reinforcing the trend of bezel-less displays, V30+ ditches bezels, and is packed in a beautiful design that never fails to impress. On the top and bottom, you do get some bezels, for housing the camera and speakers.

The smartphone flaunts a 6.0-inch P-OLED by LG, similar to one found on Google Pixel 2 XL, but with no widespread controversies to go along with it. The edge to edge screen, at an aspect ratio of 18:9, with a resolution of 1440 x 2880, packs an enormous pixel density of ~537 PPI. The screen justifies the praise with Its colors, crispness, and vibrancy. It handles contrast quite well too. With mercy on your eyes as the colors are not Samsung level saturated but still not the most natural and accurate like iPhone X.

The LG V30 Plus display has a protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 5, to give you some assurance with your careless handling. Nonetheless, the display is really impressive and tops everything else from LG, right now. It's not in the league of Samsung and Apple, but LG is doing pretty well.

The LG V30 Plus has a Snapdragon 835 at its core, much like every other flagship of 2017. The performance is undoubtedly blazing fast. The SoC is supported by 4GB of RAM, which might seem less on a flagship level to you compared with others like the OnePlus and Samsung Note 8, It still is a lot more than you would require for your multitasking dreams.

On the graphics front, we have Adreno 540 packed inside the Snapdragon 835, that makes the heaviest of games, quite smooth on this device. The performance as expected is flagship grade, with smoothness and fluidity in all the workloads, no hiccups on stutter whatsoever.

That’s what you expect from a flagship and LG promises that with V30 Plus. When comparing with other flagships of 2017, do expect a little less on benchmarking numbers compared to others with more RAM or better system optimisations, in real life, It really doesn’t matter much. On AnTuTu benchmark, the V30+ scores a bit higher than the Samsung Galaxy S8+ at 174456 points. On the GeekBench, It scores 1903 in single core, less than the Samsung Galaxy S8+’s 2006. On multi-core tests, LG V30+ scores 6495.

LG V30+ is LG’s flagship of the year 2017, and It clearly shows in the camera performance as well. There’s a dual camera organization with a 16MP sensor (f/1.6, OIS, PDAF) + 13MP (f/1.9), on paper this is probably the best camera setup of the year in all flagships, the performance doesn’t justify those numbers fully, though. It doesn’t match up or even put up an edge to edge competition with other contemporaries like Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 or the HTC U11 or Apple iPhone X. Google’s Pixel 2 is in another league. The smartphone does good with low-light photos, all thanks to those wide aperture lenses. LG’s Image processing is to blame here, and certainly, It can get better with updates to software, which isn’t the case here.

The video prowess of LG V30+ is also supreme, LG’s camera software is great with tons of configuration options, inside the camera app itself. If you are into raw videography and editing, you’ll fall in love for sure. Again, the numbers don’t match up with the performance but It is not that bad either. Pro Tip: Don’t compare it with the likes of Pixel 2, iPhone X, Galaxy Note 8 and you’ll be at peace.

On the front, you get a 5MP sensor, which is again decent but not the best of the lot. The low-light selfie lovers aren’t going to be much pleased with a f/2.2 aperture on the front shooter.

LG V30+ is powered by Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) out of the box, with no solid promises from LG regarding the coveted Oreo update. Android Nougat no doubt is good, but It is a 2-year old software, Oreo is considerably better and brings a lot more to the device, sadly V30+ doesn’t have that update in sight.

The LG V30 Plus comes with an average 3300 mAH battery, which works fine and will pull you through the day, but If you are a heavy user, the battery might not last for a full day. The smartphone is also enabled with Wireless charging if you are into it.

Also into the mix is QuickCharge 3.0, with 50% of battery in just 36min of charge. Let's talk about the IP Rating now, the V30+ is IP68 certified, so totally dust and water resistant, Peace of Mind.

The LG V30+ comes in at a price of Rs.44,990 in India and can be bought from  Amazon. The pricing is certainly aggressive but doesn’t match up against the likes of OnePlus 5T. If you need great performance and stunning design then go for it.

Beautiful Design, Impressive Display, Powerful Hardware, IP68 Rated makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

Brief Review:

‘One more thing’ has been the words Apple doesn’t take colloquially, and whenever you hear these, then something truly extraordinary is about to dazzle. The same happened at the end of Apple’s 2017 September event. Despite all the leaks and rumours, the love and outpouring for iPhone X didn’t seem to falter. iPhone X is in itself a new direction for the iPhone since its original launch in 2007. It has been 10 years and Apple has a clear vision of changing the world with iPhone X for the next decade. The smartphone takes the ‘bezel-less’ motto of 2017, way too seriously and all you’ll see on the front of the device is that giant and magnanimous display which goes edge to edge, except that cut out up to infamously known as the top ‘notch’.

iPhone X features an all-new OLED display panel with an all-new size of 5.8 inches with a resolution of 1125 pixels by 2436 pixels. The display is called Super Retina HD by Apple and is undoubtedly the best display on the market, ever, according to rating agency DisplayMate. The form factor is totally different from what we’ve been seeing with the iPhones from past 3-4 years. It has an edge to edge front with a top-notch which has people divided into hate camps and embrace camps. Apple iPhone X is as premium as it gets with a glass back same as that on an iPhone 8 and is surrounded by metal bands as the rim. The iPhone X being the most astonishing smartphone of the year is also the most breakable phone of the year with huge repair costs involved, so if you are getting one, do buy a good case, some of the best ones are listed below.

iPhone X is powered by the same mighty A11 Bionic on the inside which has no parallel in performance erstwhile in the industry, coupled with 3GB of RAM, same as iPhone 8 Plus. We can’t really say more about the absolute powerhouse this device is. The Antutu benchmark score of the iPhone X is approximately 226000, beating any other Android phone in the market by at least a margin of 25%.

Since the launch of Pixel 2, the mobile smartphone camera standards have been redefined. After much anticipation on the camera quality of iPhone X, It doesn’t shy back with a score of 101 at DxO Mark, instils which is greater than the Pixel 2. While the Pixel 2 is the best smartphone camera no doubt, iPhone X is more or less equal. On the rear, we have a dual camera setup of 12MP and 12MP sensors of which one is a telephoto lens for 2X optical zoom without any loss in the image quality. The dual sensor setup n iPhone X is now vertical to enhance AR apps with similar sensors as on the iPhone 8 Plus but Optical Image Stabilization(OIS) on both the sensors. Portrait mode gets better and Portrait lighting debuts on the iPhone, with which you can now create studio lighting effects on your photos, that’s just way cool but still in beta, so don’t put your hopes high.

On the front, we have a 7MP camera sensor with f 2.2 aperture, you have that infamous notch although it houses state of the art FaceID tech. We have a TrueDepth camera system, which enables FaceID and portrait selfies, which of course looks totally awesome. And you have Animoji now on the X as the exclusive, we can’t possibly tell how much fun they are.

Read all about how the Face ID from Apple works.

To give emphasis on the Face ID proprietary technology, Apple has removed the fingerprint sensor from the iPhone X, and it takes a lot of courage and trust in their Face ID technology in taking this huge step. Apple has always redefined the market and is undoubtedly the leader in terms of innovation.

iPhone X comes with iOS 11, as Apple calls it, “The Most Advanced, Secure, Intuitive Mobile Operating System” but this isn’t totally the case this time around as iOS 11 still appears to be a late beta product. It certainly needs more work, especially in the battery and efficiency department. As with others, iOS 11 is beautiful, intuitive and super secure as always, more than anything you can get.

iPhone X doesn’t shine in the battery numbers, It has a 2716 mAh juice pack, which surely sounds measly in the world of 4000mAh batteries but Apple has always been about efficiency. And despite the battery power of 2716 mAh, It's  not as bad as it seems, iPhone X can readily give a handsome 6-7 hours of onscreen time which is enough to stay awake for a full day usage, all thanks to the new OLED panel.

Apple iPhone X, as in iPhone 8, is protected by IP67 certification which means that is is completely dust resistant and also water resistant for up to 1 meter of depth for 30 minutes. Read everything about what IP ratings mean.

The phone supports fast charging but the box does not have the fast charger. The box also contains ear pods and a cable to convert charging jack into the headphone jack. The microphone also acts as a speaker which gives the sound, a stereo effect.

Overall, iPhone X is the best phone in terms looks, is most powerful and clubbed with great innovation. The product though is overpriced if we see the specification, but comes with the Apple brand and undoubtedly has great features which the Android phones would take a few years at least to master.

Best camera quality, Most Powerful chipset, Fast charging, IP67 Certified makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.

Brief Review:

Samsung launched its world-renowned phablet, both for good and bad reasons in August 2017, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Most of us were pretty sure that the Note 7 was enough for Samsung to ditch the Note lineup but Galaxy Note 8 rose from the ashes of Note 7, quite literally, ‘ashes’. The big smartphone flaunts a giant and exquisitely beautiful, 6.3-inch Infinity Display, punching a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels, at an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, making a gargantuan pixel density of ~521 PPI. The display never fails to astonish, every time you take a look.  There is one thing we would point out that despite the 6.3-inch display, the phone is easier to hold in hand, it has a good form factor and has an ergonomic design.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 follows a similar design language as Its little brother, Samsung Galaxy S8, with a metal unibody design and a curved, edge to edge display, which is noticeably less curved than the Galaxy S8, Samsung reasons that to make more space for use of the S-Pen, the screen is less curved. The display is as saturated as it gets, from 0 to Samsung level, which might get some people irritated for longer durations of views. At a gaze, the display is super vibrant and punchy, probably the best display around, If you love saturated displays.

On the inside, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is same as all other Android flagships of 2017, with Snapdragon 835 at the heart of it, supported by a giant 6GB of RAM. You won’t get any hiccups in performance, whatever you throw at this beast. Total flagship grade performance, that humongous RAM makes multitasking and split screening, a breeze.

The Note 8 is also available in the Exynos version with Exynos 8895 at its core, though in India, you’ll find the Snapdragon only model. The Adreno 540 GPU on the Snapdragon 835 takes all the graphics workloads you can put on it, heads on. The Note 8 is available in 3 versions with 64/128/256 GB of onboard storage, which is also expandable via MicroSD up to 256GB.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is at top of the performance chain, numbers say the same with 177834 benchmark score on the AnTuTu. On the GeekBench, the results are a bit surprising with Samsung Galaxy Note 8, scoring 1877 on single core tests, less than even the LG V30+ and Samsung Galaxy S8+. While on the multi-core tests, Note 8 scores 6552, less than Samsung Galaxy S8+’s 6708.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also reinforces Samsung’s camera prowess with the Note 8, scoring a tremendous 94 on the DxO Mark, equalling iPhone 8 Plus. There’s a dual 12MP + 12MP rear camera setup with one sensor being a f/1.7 one, while the other being f/2.4. Good news is that you get Dual Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), Auto Focus and 2X Optical zoom on the primary sensor. The video capabilities of Note 8 are also top class with 2160p@30fps and 1080p@60fps. The front camera of Note 8 is equally beautiful with an impressive 8MP, f/1.7mm sensor, making a strong mark for low-light selfies.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is powered by Android 7.1.1 out of the box, to which Samsung has promised an Oreo upgrade. That’s the best you can get, right now, a promise of Oreo. Though Samsung has overhauled its UI this year, It's no close to stock Android. The new custom skin is simpler and less clunky than the previous one but still looks a lot loaded and overcooked at times. Personally, we are not a fan.

Coming to probably the most important component for Note 8 - The Redeemer, Battery. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was a disaster, we don’t need to tell you more about that. Samsung says they have worked extensively to prevent that from happening ever again. Probably a repercussion of that is a smaller 3300mAH battery, which is severely deficient to power the giant for a full day. If you are a heavy user, carry a charger or a power bank with yourself. The good news is that Note 8 supports fast charging with Quick Charge 2.0 Technology. Alongiwith, all this, it also has wireless charging available out of the box.

One more thing, we would like to point out that the phone is slightly heavy weighing around 195gm. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 as of lately with all Samsung flagships is IP68 certified making it complete dust and water resistant. It has an awkwardly placed fingerprint sensor beside the camera sensor. The smartphone is also capable of Samsung’s shallow face recognition feature, which uses Iris scanning, don’t expect the best of security here.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is priced at Rs. 67,900 in India and can be bought from Flipkart or Amazon.

Flagship Grade Performance, Great Camera Quality, Wireless Charging, Best Display and looks makes it one of the best phones with face unlock.
