Brief Review:

Xiaomi has come up with another phone in the under 10000-15000 segment. The Redmi Y1 which was launched last year as a selfie smartphone has received some significant upgrades in terms of internal hardware, cameras, and display. Let's take a look at the brief review of Redmi Y2.

Redmi Y2 comes with a 5.99-inch display of 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution. The display is bright and vivid with good color reproduction and viewing angles. The resolution is not Full HD so that's a bit disappointing but it is not a deal breaker. The bezel-less on the top and bottom have reduced so the overall size of the phone is similar to other 5.5 inches phones. The build quality of Redmi Y1 wasn't that great but Xiaomi has done a good job with Redmi Y2. The device feels good in the hand. The back is metal so it is a bit slippery but you do get a free transparent case in the box. It comes in 3 colors: Grey, Gold and Rose Gold. Our favorite color is Rose gold.

Inside the Redmi Y2, we have the same Snapdragon 625 chipset which we have seen on Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 5. Snapdragon 625 is a decent performer and very power efficient chipset so we don't have any complaints. The phone is available in 2 variants: 3GB RAM-32GB Storage and 4GB RAM-64GB Storage. If you are a heavy user and use a lot of apps and games then go for the 4GB-64GB variant. If your use only camera, social media apps etc then 3GB variant should be fine. The overall performance of the device is good and you won't face any lag during the day to day usage. Redmi Y2 scores around 70000 on Antutu benchmarks which is similar to Antutu score of other Snapdragon 625 devices like Redmi Note 5 and Mi A1.

Let's talk about camera now. Redmi Y2 is a camera-centric smartphone and have received a good upgrade in the camera department. There is a 12MP+5MP dual camera on the back. The camera is placed vertically just like it was on the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The 12MP camera is a color sensor and 5MP camera is a depth sensor which helps to take portrait mode shots with depth effect. The rear camera performance is good in both daylight and low light conditions. The pixel size is 1.25um which helps to improve the low light performance. Edge detection in portrait mode is good as well.

The selfie camera on the Redmi Y2 is a 16MP sensor with a front flash. The front flash is very useful in low light conditions. The front camera also has portrait mode and can take pictures with depth effect. In our initial tests, the front camera performance was good. Edge detection wasn't that great and you might see your hair getting blurred in some of the shots. The front camera has features like AI beauty which removes blemishes and makes you look beautiful. The front camera is also used for face unlock which is not that quick but still, performance is decent. If you don't like face unlock then there is a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. It is safe to say that Redmi Y2 is the best budget camera smartphone available in India under Rs. 10000.

Redmi Y2 comes with MIUI 9.5 out of the box which is a custom skin based on Android 8.1. We don't really like MIUI because it comes with a lot of bloatware and the UI isn't great either but you can change that with a launcher. If you like to use dual apps, second space etc then MIUI is great for you.

The battery inside the Redmi Y2 is 3080 mAh and would last for a day on single charge. It would have been great if Xiaomi has gone with a 4000 mAh battery like on Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. The charger inside the box is 5V, 2 Amps charger which will charge the device in around 2 hours.

It is a dual sim device and Xiaomi has added a dedicated MicroSD slot this time which is great. If 32GB or 64GB is not enough for you, you can slide in a MicroSD card to increase the storage by up to 128GB. Redmi Y2 is not waterproof or dustproof and doesn't have any IP rating so keep it away from water and mud.

The Redmi Y2 has been priced at 9999 for the 3GB-32GB variant and 12999 for 4GB-64GB variant. It is an Amazon India exclusive device. We think pricing is decent and you are getting good value for money. The price of the lower variant is same as Redmi Note 5. Redmi Y2 has better cameras and Redmi Note 5 has better battery and display. So go for Y2 is you are going to use the camera a lot. If you don't use the camera much then Note 5 or Realme 1 is a better option.

Large Display, Solid Build, Good Front and Rear Camera, Dedicated MicroSD Slot makes it one of the best selfie phones in India.

Brief Review:

Vivo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is on a streak of launching some great smartphones, painting the full display screen and notch over the world. Vivo Y83, launched recently in India is not exactly a budget device but falls slightly above the mark in sub ₹ 15k range, which is a pretty fiery segment to be competing in with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro and many more, Could Vivo Y83 best them all? Let’s find out.

If you have been around the Vivo camp for a while, you know about the company’s conspicuous ‘inspirations’ from Cupertino boys. It’s time to face the truth that abhor it, love It, notches are the new cool and Vivo knows how to play with brand value and style status. Ergo, we find the full view, notched, 6.22 inch IPS LCD display on the Vivo Y83 with a super tall aspect ratio of 19:9. The display as goes full stretch to the ends with a noticeable chin at the bottom.

The display has a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels which clocks in a pixel density of 270 PPI. We expected better but nonetheless, the display is bright and gives a satisfactory viewing experience, with decent viewing angles and nothing marvellous. The sunlight readability is not quite legit, though. The metal back with matte finish looks not so flashy but feels good in hands. The design is not very striking, with curved edges but It is quite comfortable to hold. The shiny metal finish rim encloses volume controls, sleep/wake button on the sides and to our satisfaction, a 3.5mm jack on the bottom with standard MicroUSB port for charging. If you’ve seen Vivo V9, X21 then Y83 feels quite similar. At just 7.7mm thick, Y83 is quite sleek and weighs just 150 grams which is quite appreciable for a smartphone over 6-inches.

Vivo Y83 is powered by the latest MediaTek processor: Helio P22 which is built on 12nm process and provides good performance and power efficiency. Vivo Y83 scores around 70000 on Antutu benchmarks which is similar to the phones powered by Snapdragon 625 or 630. Vivo Y83 performs well and just rolls over all the workloads we could through at It. No lags, no stutters. The system performance is smooth and fluid at all times even with a plethora of apps running at tandem, thanks to 4GB of RAM.

The smartphone comes with 32GB of onboard storage which can be easily expanded to 256GB via MicroSD. In our first impressions, we found casual gaming to be quite smooth and free-flowing, we are not too confident about heavy gaming yet. Stay tuned for the full review. In all, the smartphone seems like a stunner in performance with some clouds over gaming performance but Its quite above the danger mark though.

The primary camera on the Vivo Y83 is a 13 MP (f/2.2) sensor with LED Flash and It is like every budget mediocre camera out there, nothing out of the line, satisfactory shots with some good detail but plenty of noise. Low-light photos are full of grains, It is practically just surviving in harsh lighting conditions. The front sensor is in the same tune with 8 MP (f/2.2) sensor which does a pretty decent selfie job and again, in low-lights its just shooting out in the wild with superb noise levels. Vivo has something called AI beautification mode, which is supposedly meant to enhance selfies, we didn’t find a whole lot ‘AI’ involved in the process, It was more a softening and adding beauty filters process much like most camera apps in Play Store do.

Let's talk about software now. Vivo software skin called FunTouch OS on top of Android Oreo 8.1 run the show on this smartphone. FunTouch OS is another element of Vivo ideology that is inspired heavily from iOS, even to elemental things like the app icons. It just takes it so much towards iOS and so far from Android that the user feels in a limbo. It is heavily bloated and it is not an amazing feeling swiping through the screens and using gestures as they are not very smooth and kinda stick sometimes which is really annoying. There are a host of minor nagging issues here and there in the skin which sums up resulting in quite a struggling experience. Vivo can love iOS and Apple all they want but they need to refine. It has been long since FunTouch received a meaningful upgrade, Vivo folks really need to up their game in software to craft a utopian experience around their devices.

Vivo Y83 comes with a non-removable 3260mAH battery which is decent enough for a day on medium use, If you are a pusher, carrying a charger would be the best policy as this device won’t last an entire day on heavy use. There’s a MicroUSB port on the bottom of the device for charging, what’s sad is that there is no fast charging, which makes charging this device a long process occupying nearly 2.5-3 hours. The single downward firing speaker on the bottom beside the charging port gets loud enough. It pumps well-balanced sound with decent clarity. Vivo Y83 also Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, so the in-call noise is reduced and It works nicely.

In your interest, you are hereby informed that there is no IP rating for the smartphone, so It would be nice to keep it way far from liquids and dust to ensure Its life and working capacity. Since there’s is all the notch and full-screen display, you might have been missing some FaceID ripoff and Vivo doesn’t disappoint. There is face unlock feature going by the name of Face Access and It works perfectly in most scenarios except low-lighting conditions.

Vivo Y83 is priced at ₹ 14,990 and Customers can get the smartphone from any offline retail store or from Amazon, or the company's official website. At this price, we think it is a good option for those who are looking for a big display phone with a notch. The phone performs well in multitasking and casual gaming as well but it is not the best in this range for those use-cases. The camera performance is also decent in daylight conditions but low light images can be disappointing.

Beautiful Design, Nice Display, Good Performance, Dedicated MicroSD makes it one of the best selfie phones in India.

Brief Review:

From OnePlus One in 2014 to OnePlus 6 in 2018, OnePlus has come a long way. OnePlus One was a stunning device with flagship specs at less than half the price. Things have changed a lot from then. OnePlus used to have no advertising budget and the OnePlus One offered very high value for money. Now, OnePlus spends a good amount on advertising and the price is going up every year. The price has increased by around 70% in last 4 years but OnePlus has managed to build a following so people don't really seem to mind the price increase. Let's talk about the latest OnePlus 6 now.

OnePlus 6 is probably the most beautiful phone made by OnePlus. The mirror black variant has a glass back and looks gorgeous. It is a bit slippery though which is obvious because of the glass back. There's also a Midnight black color and White color as well. The display on the front is 6.28 inches AMOLED panel with 19:9 aspect ratio. OnePlus has jumped on to the notch trend. If you hate the notch then there's an option in settings to remove it. The resolution of the display is still Full HD 2280x1080p. The display is sharp, bright and vibrant and we have no complaints. The display is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 which will protect it from scratches.

The cameras on the OnePlus 6 are same as the ones on OnePlus 5T. The pixel size has improved though which means low light pictures would be better. There is a f/2.0 16MP selfie camera on the front with 1um pixel size. There is EIS on the front camera as well which means videos will be stable. The front camera performance is good with good amount of details and accurate color reproduction. You can also take bokeh/portrait mode selfies from the front camera. The front camera is also being used for face unlocking which seems to work well.

The camera setup on the back is 16MP+20MP dual setup with same f/1.7 aperture. OnePlus is not using any telephoto lens or wide angle lens as the second sensor. The secondary sensor is just there to increase the level of details and improve low light performance. The primary 16MP sensor has both OIS and EIS which means the stabilization will be excellent. You can also record 4K videos at 60FPS and slow-motion videos are also supported at 240FPS 1080p and 480FPS at 720p. The camera performance of the OnePlus 6 is excellent. The portrait mode shots have a decent amount of blur with good edge detection.

The hardware inside the OnePlus 6 is very powerful. You get the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6 or 8GB of RAM and 64, 128 or 256 GB of storage depending on which variant you choose. The device is blazing fast. The apps open and close really quick. No matter what kind or how many apps or games you open and use, you won't notice any kind of lag on this device. The performance is visible in benchmark scores as well. The OnePlus 6 scores around 270000 on Antutu Benchmark which is one of the highest scores as of May 2018. On Geekbench, OnePlus 6 scores around 2500 on a single core and around 9000 on multi-core.

The battery inside the OnePlus 6 is 3300 mAh battery which is same as the one we saw on OnePlus 5T. The Snapdragon 845 is more efficient than the SD835 but the screen area on the 6 has increased so you will get almost same backup as 5T. On a single charge, it will last for a day with ease. If you are a heavy user then the Dash charging will come to your rescue. It can charge the device to 50% in just 30 minutes which is crazy quick.

The OnePlus 6 is running on Oxygen OS which is almost stock Android 8.1 with some useful features and no bloatware as all. Powerful hardware and stock android helps OnePlus 6 to deliver great experience.

For audio, there are speakers at the bottom and the 3.5mm audio jack is still there. It is great to see that OnePlus is not throwing the jack away for no reasons as all like some of the other brands did.

The OnePlus 6 comes in 3 variants. The 6GB RAM 64GB storage will cost you 34999, the 8GB 128GB will cost you 39999 and the 8GB 256GB variant will cost you 44999 in India.

Overall, OnePlus 6 is an impressive device. It is not a big upgrade over 5T. The display is larger, the camera is a bit better and the internal hardware is even more powerful. It is a great device but we won't call it a flagship killer because the display is still 1080p, still no wireless charging and still no IP rating. OnePlus needs to work on those areas to make it a true flagship killer.

Premium Design, Powerful Hardware, Vibrant Display, Great Cameras makes it one of the best selfie phones in India.

Brief Review:

Its 2018 and Notch-iness is all over the mobile world, thanks to Apple for being such a force. (Phew.) Oppo launched F7 in March 2018 and added one more device to the list of Androids sporting the infamous iPhone X notch design. The smartphone is all about modern design with bezels pushed to the ends and that cute little notch up top, guess what, Its looks very much like the iPhone X. The smartphone has a giant 6.2- inch, LTPS IPS LCD display with a 1080 x 2280 pixels resolution, packing a pixel density of ~405 PPI, we don’t need to say now that the display is just gorgeous. Even with that giant display the smartphone is just 7.8mm thick and weighs 158 grams, and fits comfortably in hands. There are some bezels up top and bottom. The display is protected by a Gorilla Glass 5. The build is fairly solid, a plastic unibody design. The notch houses the selfie camera and a bunch of other sensors.

Under the hood, Oppo F7 has a MediaTek Helio P60 running the cause. Helio P60 appears to be a very capable SoC on paper with 8 cores out of which 4 are high-performance Cortex A73s while the other 4 are high-efficiency Cortex A53s, all clocked at 2.0GHz. To serve all your gaming needs there’s a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, which is not as good as Adreno on Snapdragons but gets the job done. Oppo F7 comes in two variants with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage and the other one having 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The specifications are really impressive and give good vibes about this smartphone.

The smartphone runs on Android Oreo out of the box with Oppo’s age-old ColorOS skin on top, which just doesn’t make the cut. When put under tests, the Oppo F7 scored as follows - On GeekBench 4, 1533 in single core drives and 5845 in multi-core. On AnTuTu, the Oppo F7 scores around 137000. The smartphone overpowers Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro in both GeekBench and Antutu. The smartphone has power and responsiveness, It works smoothly in everyday tasks and gaming isn’t a problem as well.

Talking about cameras, as Oppo calls Itself a camera ‘expert’, the device features a single 16MP, a f/1.8 sensor with LED flash at the back and a large 25MP,f/2.0 sensor at the front for selfies. Oppo seems to have really shown some confidence in single sensor setup this time as the results show, the camera outperforms Vivo V9, another notch-featuring contemporary. The low-light shots are great thanks to the wider aperture on the Oppo F7. The story continues with the selfie camera as well. The shots are rich, vibrant and well balanced. As there’s no secondary rear sensor, Oppo uses software tricks for the much-touted bokeh effect, which as you would have guessed doesn’t hit the spot.

The smartphone packs a 3400mAh battery, which is pretty average now-days, we are devastated that this neo-modern smartphone from Oppo shows no signs of fast charging, hell there’s MicroUSB 2.0 instead of USB-C. Thankfully, there’s a headphone jack. And to your caution, there’s no IP rating on this one so keep it as far from liquids as possible. Thanks to the power efficient chipset, Oppo F7 battery backup is great. With medium usage, you can expect 1.5 days of backup on a single charge. With light usage, it will last for even 2 days.

The smartphone is priced at ₹ 21,990 and It is not the best deal around but It is certainly one of the satisfying ones at the price. Oppo is giving a gorgeous smartphone with latest features at the decent price. Go for it if you need a gorgeous looking smartphone with good cameras, a powerful processor at around 20k.

Large Bezelless Display, Powerful Chipset, Good Camera Perormance, Dedicated MicroSD makes it one of the best selfie phones in India.

V9

Features

  • 4 GB RAM | 64 GB ROM | MicroSD upto 256 GB
  • 6.3 inch Full HD+ Display 1080p
  • Back Camera: 16MP + 5MP Dual Camera
  • Front Camera: 24MP
  • 3260mAh Battery
  • Dual Sim Device
  • Available in Gold, Black Colors

Best Price ₹20990

Brief Review:

Vivo V9 is the latest smartphone launched by Vivo on 23rd March 2018. Vivo has always been focused towards the selfie camera, but this time, in addition to the Selfie Camera, Vivo has come up with many new features and yeah the notch as well. In terms of design, V9 looks mesmerizingly beautiful with a bezel-less display of 6.3 Inches Full HD+ display having 1080 x 2280 resolution. It is a FullView Display panel with19:9 aspect ratio (90% Body to Screen Ratio) and a notch at the top similar to iPhone X, but is smaller and narrower.

Talking about the specifications, Vivo V9 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 which scores approximately 67000 on the Antutu Benchmark Score. It has 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 256 GB with a dedicated SD card slot and Dual sim usage.

In the camera department, Vivo V9 has a rear dual sensor of 16MP and 5MP which is placed vertically on the back. The Rear Camera produces perfect bokeh shots and uses AI techniques to improvise on the images. The dual camera has a wide angle lens so you can capture more in a single shot.  You can even shoot first and focus later, transforming every photo into an artistic masterpiece.

The front camera is a 24 MP sensor and reflects the inclination of Vivo towards Selfie, the selfie also supports depth/bokeh effect using Artifical Intelligence(AI) .V9 comes with AI Face Beauty that uses Machine Learning to find users' age, skin tone, sex and other features to "truly represent the person beauty". It also features a Selfie Lighting feature as was seen in iPhone X. So you will never be short of a great camera and selfie images anytime. It also has AR stickers for selfies which is just like Snapchat filters.

Vivo V9 also puts emphasis AI Smart Engine that is responsible to handle storage and app launching based on user behavior and AI Attention Scanning that lowers the volume of notification when the user is looking on the display. In terms of unlocking, it comes with a fingerprint sensor on the back and also supports face unlocking that again uses AI and Machine Learning (AI Face Access) that improves the accuracy of the Face Unlock Feature. Both the methods work smoothly and have very good accuracy.

On the Software front, Vivo V9 runs on Funtouch OS 4.0 which is a custom skin built over Android Oreo 8.1. The UI is clean and comes with many software features to ease your day to day activities. The battery of Vivo V9 is rated at 3290mAH and given the big screen size it lasts only for a day. Fast Charging is supported in Vivo V9 with the mobile getting fully charged in less than 1.5 hours  The battery is not a huge one to keep the check on the thickness and weight which just measure 7.9 mm and 150gm respectively. Vivo V9 is not water resistant or dust proof as it does not have any IP rating.

So if you are looking for a great camera setup and Fun of AI in your life, you can go for it, there is only one small disappointment that it runs 2 years old Snapdragon 626 which has been preceded by Snapdragon 630 and 636. Still, the overall performance is good and you won't face any lags while multi-tasking or gaming.

It is available both on Flipkart and Amazon at 22990 with different offers which can be checked on the links above. Overall, it is a great looking smartphone with excellent cameras. Go for it if your budget is around 25000.

Launch Offer on Flipkart: Flipkart is offering extra 2000 off on exchange. Plus, 5% instant discount (Rs. 1150) if you pay with HDFC cards. 0% Interest EMI also available.

Brief Review:

Xiaomi has grown tremendously over last 2 years and disrupted the Smartphone Market to become the leader. This is credited to the success of Redmi 4, Redmi 4A and Redmi Note 4 which were bestsellers last year.  On 14th Feb, Xiaomi has launched Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in India and is set to break and shake the industry again. Check out Redmi Note 5 here.

Redmi Note 5 comes with a 5.99-inch Bezelless(18:9) display which looks beautiful and marks the entry of Xiaomi in bezel-less phones in the budget segment. The infinity display has a resolution of 1080p Full HD Plus which good viewing angles and vibrant and punchier colors. Note 5 Pro has a metal unibody design and a very strong build quality, something inspired by the Redmi Note 4.

The display size, though, has increased to 5.99 inches, the size of the device is almost same as other 5.5 inch devices as Xiaomi has reduced the bezels. So if you are using a 5.5-inch device, you won't find any difficulty operating with Redmi 5 Pro. With no bezels, the navigation buttons move to On-Screen buttons.

On the Camera side, the smartphone does a wonderful job, it comes with a Dual Rear Camera with a Sony12MP sensor with f2.2 aperture and a Samsung 5MP sensor with f2.0 aperture. These 2 lenses on the back are stacked vertically, similar to something seen in iPhone X. The dual camera can take excellent portrait mode pictures with bokeh effect. Performance is similar to what we saw on Mi A1.

On the Front Camera, we have a special selfie-focused Sony IMX376 sensor, with a resolution of 20MP and f2.0 aperture. It is a great camera for selfies lovers. There is flash on the front side so low light selfies also look decent. Do note that the front camera is capable of taking portrait mode selfies as well with bokeh effect. During our initial test, the selfies came out sharp. The portrait mode worked well with good edge detection and blur effect. We think Redmi 5 Pro is probably the best selfie phone from Xiaomi.

Let's talk about video recording now. Redmi Note series has been weak with video recording as there was no stabilization available. But things have changed now and Redmi Note 5 Pro has EIS(Electronic Stabilization) so the videos won't be shaky and will look much better than other Redmi Series smartphones. In our initial tests, the videos looked good and stabilization also worked well. There's no option to record 4K videos so that a negative.

The camera on both front and rear does a brilliant job overall and you won't have any complaints given the price point at which Xiaomi offers all these features. This Camera performance of Redmi Note 5 Pro has a lot of improvements compared to Redmi Note 4(2017 Best Selling Smartphone) or the Redmi Note 5. Camera lovers won't be disappointed with Redmi Note 5's performance.

This budget beast gets a big boost in the processor department and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 which has an Antutu Score of around 1,10,000. Redmi Note 4 comes with Snapdragon 625 which scores around 65000 on Antutu benchmark. So by this comparison, the Note 5 Pro has 70-80% more processing power.

It comes in two variants, one with 4GB RAM and other with 6GB of RAM clubbed with 64 GB of internal memory in both the variants, assuring of a power-packed performance with Smooth Multitasking and no lag or delay even with the higher end games. Xiaomi has used DDR4 RAM here which is a great thing because we don't really see DDR4 in budget phones. Only the flagship phones are using DDR4 as of now.

The back of Redmi Note 5 Pro has a curved back making it easier to hold and grip. There is a 2.5D gorilla glass on the display. With a strong build quality, great looks, this Note 5 Pro certainly feels nice in hand. Xiaomi has added a translucent silicon case in the box which fits the phone very nicely. Thumbs up to Xiaomi for adding a free case.

Redmi Note 5 Pro, comes with a fingerprint sensor that is quick in unlocking your phone. Xiaomi has added the face unlock feature in the first update. In our initial tests, the face unlock has been working great. It is quick and unlocks the phone in less than a second. Plus, it works even when your phone is about at waist height and you are looking at it. So, you can just take your phone out of pocket and look at it, it will unlock. You don't need to lift the phone to face height to unlock it. We liked the speed and accuracy of the Xiaomi's face lock. Also, it didn't work when eyes were closed so you don't have to worry about someone unlocking your phone when you are sleeping.

The Redmi Note 5 is not water resistant or dust proof as it does not have any IP rating.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is running on latest MIUI 9 which is based on Android Nougat 7.1.2,  which will surely be upgraded to Android Oreo in the near future. Those who love stock android won't like the MIUI interface so just go for Nova Launcher.

Still not able to hold what all this smartphone offer. Hold Tight. Apart from raking in the best features in all the departments, This Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a big 4000mAH which can easily last of 1.5 - 2 days in case of normal usage, given it comes with a power efficient processor. In first few days of use, we got 7 to 8 hours of screen on time which is excellent for a large 6 inch display phone with a powerful processor.

Our charging tests are still in progress and we will add results here soon.

With ranking high in this department as well, Redmi Note 5 Pro, does not leave any point that can be strictly negative towards it.

Overall, Redmi Note 5 Pro is a great value for money smartphone which looks decent and performs well. If your budget is around 15k then go for it.

Brief Review:

Vivo came up with the very beautiful Vivo V7 in November 2017.  This is Vivo’s attempt at premium phones and the Vivo V7 looks absolutely gorgeous. On the front, we have a lean and mean 5.7-inch edge-to-edge display with minor bezels at top and bottom to house speaker grills. Except that the display doesn’t do justice to the design of this smartphone. Vivo V7 has an 18:9 ratio screen with a frugal resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels, ~282 PPI. Considering the price and design, the display is absolutely unfit and horrible.

The phone is not the thinnest at 7.9mm and is at the lighter end as it weighs just 139 grams. The Vivo V7 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 providing its horsepower at 1.8Ghz, Octa-core, with a handsome 4GB of RAM.  The Snapdragon is a decent performer but don't expect it to provide the best experience on a smartphone of this size. In my opinion, Vivo V7 should have been based on Snapdragon 625 at least. In daily use, you won’t find a lot of issues but don’t complain if your phone stutters a bit while gaming or playing high-resolution videos.  Occasional UI lags shouldn’t be unheard of. The coupling of a generous 4GB of RAM with Snapdragon 435 seems odd. For normal usage, the smartphone isn’t bad but don’t expect a lot of heavy weightlifting. Multi-tasking happens nicely, all thanks to that giant RAM. Thankfully there are no heating problems. On the AnTuTu Benchmark score, Vivo V7 scores 56860, just below MI A1’s 60355, GeekBench records Vivo V7 at 766 in single core performance and 3917 in multi-core performance. Vivo V7 comes with a 32GB Internal storage which is expandable via MicroSD to up to 256GB.

In the camera segment where Vivo V7 vouches for itself, It has got a 16MP (f/2.0, 1/3", 1.0 µm) sensor at the back and a humongous 24MP sensor at front. The camera quality is decent, not the very natural and best but decent enough for normal use. In low-light, camera performance isn’t what Vivo claims to be, the best smartphone camera in the range. Still, the smartphone performs well and picks up colours nicely. Larger MP sensor doesn’t translate to better photos, the selfie camera on this one reinforces that statement. The 24MP sensor performs good enough but not to the mark where it satisfies the numbers associated. You do have that artificial depth effect with the front sensor, which sadly is not adjustable. In natural lighting, the shots on the smartphone are great and have good detail and balance. On the positive sides, you do have a 3.5mm jack and dual sim card slots.

The Vivo V7 glides on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, with no upcoming plans for an Oreo update. Android Nougat is no doubt a year old OS but certainly isn’t bad. On top of Android 7.1, you get a lot of bloatware and cheap iOS-like icons/UI, all thanks to Vivo’s FunTouch UI as they call it.

The Vivo V7 seems to be promising with the battery as well with a big 3000mAh battery that easily lasts a day with 5 hours of screen on time. You don’t get fast charging, so build some patience to charge this one.  It takes somewhere around 3 hours to go full 100%. The phone isn’t protected against dust or water with no IP rating, so be sure to handle with care.

Vivo has always been embarking on the journey of selfie centric phones, and in Vivo V7 as well, it rests the case with the same selfie centric phone. You cannot expect anything extraordinary over the selfie and just delivers decently in all the departments.

Other options in this range are Honor 9i, Honor 7X, Mi A1.

Good camera images, Premium design, Full view display, Dedicated MicroSD makes it one of the best selfie phones in India.

Brief Review:

Infinix after the success of budget smartphones Infinix Note 4 and Infinix Hot 4 Pro in the Indian market, has launched mid-range smartphones Infinix Zero 5 and Infinix Zero 5 Pro. As is evident from the specs, it has everything that a phone user looks for. Let's find out how it delivers to what the specs promise in our Infinix Zero 5 Pro review.

Infinix Zero 5 Pro has a metal unibody design which looks sleek and stylish and feels good in the hand, it has a 5.98-inch Full HD display which is protected by a  2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The color reproduction and viewing angles of the device are good and you won't face any issues.

As with all the phones launched in 2017 that got a thumbs up in the various review, Infinix Zero 5 Pro has also put a special focus on the camera quality. The rear camera is a dual camera setup which is a combination of 12MP Wide Angle and 13MP Telephoto lens which has f2.0 aperture with 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom. The camera supports various mode like portrait, panorama, professional etc. In our initial camera review of Infinix Zero 5 Pro, we found the image quality to be brilliant in the daylight, the colours are punchier, natural and delivers well to the expectations but in the low light the camera struggled a bit and we could see some minor noise in the images.

The front camera of Infinix Zero 5 Pro is a 16MP shooter with front flash and supports bokeh mode, the front camera also delivers well and clicks clear selfies with good colour reproductions. Both the front and rear camera support video up to 1080p but the video as well struggle a bit in the low light condition. The rear camera in Infinix Zero 5 Pro supports OIS which works perfectly fine and the video is not shaky when shooting while moving.

Talking about the performance review of the device, Infinix Zero 5 Pro is powered by Octa Core 2.6GHz Mediatek Helio P25 MT6757 Chipset. The Antutu benchmark score of the device is around 66000 which is similar to benchmark scores seen in Lenovo P2, Mi A1. This score is similar to the score of Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. It looks like Infinix looks to add a lot of things into the phone by compromising a few points on the processing power side. We did a few initial tests and review with the gaming on the Infinix Zero 5, but to our surprise, given the MediaTek chipset, there was no lag or frame drops or heating issues observed. Looks like Infinix has managed the internal software and heat dissipation efficiently.

Zero 5 Pro comes with 6GB of RAM, that makes multitasking a breeze. It has a massive internal storage of 128GB which can be expanded with a dedicated micro SD card of up to 128GB, along with dual sim usage. So if you are someone who likes to store a lot of pictures, videos and songs then Infinix Zero 5 Pro is a good option for you.

Inifiniz Zero 5 Pro comes with XOS which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat but the company has promised an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo. In XOS, the company has added inbuilt features like an anti-theft system, split screen mode and smart interactions. The software is clean with some limited bloatware, the UI is fast and easy to use. The fingerprint sensor is on the back which is quick and accurate, takes about half a second to unlock.

The battery size of Infinix Zero 5 Pro is rated at 4350 mAH, it is huge and easily lasts for more than a day with normal usage. It comes with a 18W fast charger which is capable of a very quick charge of a full battery in around 1.5 hours and USB type C which assists fast charging and fast data transfer. Infinix Zero 5 does not have IP rating and is not IP 67 or IP 68 certified so it is not waterproof and should be used accordingly.

One thing that Infinix Zero 5 Pro misses from the trend is the Bezel-less display, we have seen phones like Honor 9i (Check full review), which is one brilliantly crafted smartphone, priced in the similar range coming with the bezel-less display. Zero 5 though looks good but at Suggest Phone we think bezel-less display would have raised the level of looks. The company would have surely thought of this and maybe restricted itself to save the cost for other features added to the phone.

Overall in our first complete review of Infinix Zero 5 Pro, we found the smartphone has a tradeoff between performance, camera and looks. The phone performs decently well in all the departments and so if anyone is looking for a well-settled phone, with a metal body, huge RAM for multitasking, fast charging and big screen, you can go for this.

With the launch of Inifnix Zero 5, Infinix has also launched Infinix QuietX (XE05) Headset with Mic and Infinix Quiet 2 (XE02) Headset with Mic which are focussed on noise reduction with some great new features.

Solid Build Quality, Huge RAM, Good Rear Camera, Dedicated MicroSD Slot makes it one of the best selfie phones in India.

Brief Review:

Moto X4 was released today on 13th November in an event by Motorola. With Moto X4, Motorola makes a comeback with its X series phones in the mid-range segment. The phone looks stunning, has a powerful hardware inside and many new features.

Though we call Moto X4 as a mid-range phone its looks and design are extremely premium. The smartphone features a 5.2 inch IPS LCD display and has glass on both front and back and a metal frame in between but lacks a bezel-less display.  The front of the Moto X4 which is protected by a Corning Gorilla glass on both front and back and it comes with a fingerprint sensor at the bottom and a front camera of 16 MP at the top. The back of the phone hosts a dual camera setup of 12 MP + 8 MP which protrudes little out from the back panel.

Moto X4 comes with an IP68 certified tag, which can keep in Dust and waterproof for up to 1.5 Meters and 30 minutes. Ohh, and one other great news about Moto X4 is the Stock Android experience, currently working with Android 7.1(Nougat) and a planned upgrade to Android 8.0 (Oreo).

In terms of the performance factor, Moto X4 comes powered by 2.2 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Chipset, with an Antutu benchmark score of 70,000, a 10% increase over the Snapdragon 625 seen in many smartphones like Mi A1, Moto G5S Plus and Honor 9i.

Moto X4 has 2 variants. The lower variant comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and higher variant comes with 4GB of RAM and internal storage of 64 GB which is expandable up to 2TB, so memory and RAM are never going to be an issue. The performance is top notch and no lag experience whatsoever could be seen in our initial reviews. We recommend going for the 4GB 64GB variant as the price difference is just 2k.

Moto X4 had a lot of rumor on the camera specifications which Motorola calls Advanced Dual Rear Camera System, capable of clicking Stunning Portraits and Wide Angle landscapes. The rear camera is a dual camera setup of 12MP + 8 MP, the 12MP sensor uses Dual Autofocus Pixel technology to deliver crisp results in any lighting conditions, and the 8 MP gives a 120 Degree field of view. The rear camera setup has a Dual LED flash and can shoot videos at 4K resolution. The camera is slow and takes time to process the images. Maybe this will be fixed by Motorola with a software update.

The front camera setup of Moto X4 has a wide-angle 16 MP sensor with a LED flash with an adaptive low light mode for perfect selfie even in low light conditions.

The camera software comes with various features named as Selective Focus(Bokeh) which adds a blur to background or foreground of images while keeping the main subject in clear focus and Selective black and white which allows changing the background or foreground to black and white with the main subject in full color.

Moto X4 packs a 3,000 mAH battery, with turbocharging capability. The battery would last for around a day with normal usage. Also, the phone is sensor-rich and comes with all needed sensors like Compass, Gyroscope etc.

Apart from the regular specifications, Motorola has added some new taste to Moto X4, which comes with Bluetooth 5.0. With this upgrade, Moto X4 can stream music wirelessly to up to 4 Bluetooth speakers and headphones, whose volumes can be controlled independently.

Moto X4 is a Flipkart exclusive smartphone and will be available from midnight of November 14.

One small disappointment that Moto X4 has that it does not have Radio in it. So you cannot tune in to FM with Moto X4.

Final Verdict, With all these features under its hood, Moto X4 looks like a very promising Mid-range phone, capable of redefining the market as Motorola did with its budget phones.

Brief Review:

Honor 9i is the latest smartphone in India from Huawei/Honor. This device has already been launched in other countries with following names: Huawei Maimang 6, Huawei Nova 2i, Huawei Mate 10 Lite. So Honor 9i is the 4th name of this device. We have no idea what Honor is trying to do here.

At first look Honor 9i looks like a premium device. The build of the phone is solid and it feels good in the hand. We have a 5.9-inch full view display with Full HD+ resolution. Even with large 5.9-inch display the size of the device is similar to other 5.5 inch devices because of the small bezels.

The aspect ratio of the display is 18:9 which we have seen earlier in flagships like LG G6, LG V30 and midrange phones like LG Q6 and Vivo V7+. The display is sharp with good viewing angles and it looks beautiful overall. The display is covered with 2.5D glass.

The Honor 9i comes powered by 2.36 GHz Octa-Core Kirin 659 processor, which is a powerful processor capable of handling all the normal multitasking swiftly. The Kirin 659 scores around 63800 in Antutu benchmarks which is equivalent to the score of Snapdragon 625 which scores around 63100.

The multitasking Honor 9i assisted by 4GB of RAM. It comes with 64 GB of internal memory. Plus there is a MicroSD card slot which can be used to increase the storage by up to 256GB. The slot is hybrid so you can either use 2 sims cards or 1 sim card and a MicroSD card. We hate the concept of hybrid slot because it limits the functionality of the device.

The USP of the device is the camera setup. Honor 9i is a first-ever phone that supports both dual rear camera and dual front camera, The rear camera is a 16MP + 2MP dual camera while the front camera is a 13MP + 2MP dual camera. the dual camera setup allows additional effects to be added to the photos clicked. Both camera setups have an RGB camera sensor and a monochrome camera sensor. Details are captured from both cameras to make images sharper. Plus, they help to give a bokeh/depth effect to your pictures. In our initial tests, the camera performance of both front and back cameras looked impressive. Portrait shots had sharp edges of the object in focus with blurred background. With initial impressions, we can say that it looks like the best camera experience in this price segment. We will test it out under outdoor and indoor conditions and post a full review on our blog soon.

Honor 9i also supports the feature as seen in Honor 8 where the image background can be blurred even after clicking the image. This feature is really good as you can blur the background to your liking after taking the picture.

For security, the back of the phone supports an active fingerprint sensor just below the vertical rear camera setup while LED flash in integrated into the Antenna band. The fingerprint sensor is fast and responsive and you are not going to face any issues with it.

The Honor 9i runs EMUI 5.1 which is a skin based on Android 7.0 Nougat. EMUI has some useful customizations like drawing an S for a long screenshot to capture an entire web page, tap twice with one finger for a screenshot, and tap twice with two fingers for screen recording. These small features can be very useful.

The handset supports 3340mAH battery which should be sufficient for more than a day for normal usage.

Overall, Honor 9i looks like a very balanced device with nice dual cameras on both sides. If you like to take selfies then you should consider this device. Even if you do not click selfies, the premium build, beautiful display, lag-free performance makes it a great option in this price range.

Honor 9i in black colour looks great. It wasn't available before but it is available now. Buy Honor 9i Black from Flipkart.

Other options in this range include Mi A1 and Moto G5S Plus. We think Honor 9i is a better option because of better processor, better and larger display and dual front camera which is not there in other devices. You can take a look at the review of Mi A1 here and Moto G5S Plus here

Premium Build Quality, Beautiful Display, Dual Back Camera, Dual Front Camera makes it one of the best selfie phones in India.

Brief Review:

Moto G5S Plus is the updated version of Moto G5 Plus which was launched a few months ago. Things that have changed are the display size, camera, and storage.

G5 Plus had a 5.2-inch display and G5S Plus has a 5.5-inch display panel. Resolution is same at 1080p Full HD. The display is sharp and vivid and viewing angles are good. There was a 12MP camera on the back before but now we have 13MP + 13MP dual camera setup which helps to give bokeh effect to the pictures. Plus, you can change the background of an object in the picture using inbuilt features. Motorola has done a great job at integrating these features directly into the camera app of Moto G5S Plus.

On the front, we have an 8MP camera with flash. Front flash is a great addition for selfie lovers and should help in improving quality in low light conditions. Overall both camera perform really well and it is safe to say that Moto G5S Plus offers best camera experience in this segment. On the storage side, we have 64GB internal storage now which was 32GB before in the G5 Plus.

The processor is same Snapdragon 625 with 4GB of RAM. The hardware is good and G5S Plus is able to handle heavy games easily so it is a good mid range option for gamers as well.

The build quality has improved. Previously the sides of Moto G5 Plus were plastic but now it is all metal. The phone feels very solid in hand and has a premium look. The battery has been kept the same at 3000mAh. You should get a day of backup with a single charge. Moto G5S Plus comes with a fast charger so battery backup should not be a problem.

With these improvements, Moto G5S Plus has become a very solid competitor in the mid range segment. G5 Plus was launched at Rs 16,999 but the improved G5S Plus has been priced at Rs 15,999 at launch which is excellent pricing.
